“If not, we won’t win”: Amorim reveals key thing United stars must do like “mad dogs” to get over their problems

    “if-not,-we-won’t-win”:-amorim-reveals-key-thing-united-stars-must-do-like-“mad-dogs”-to-get-over-their-problems

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has urged his players to run more, in order to bridge the gap between themselves and their rivals who are challenging for top honours.

United are set to host Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday, in what will be Amorim’s third Premier League match since his appointment as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.

The Red Devils will be heading into the match off the back of a humbling 2-0 loss at the hands of Arsenal in mid-week.

Amorim spoke to reporters in the embargoed section of his press conference and emphasised the need to run more. He also noted that United are a “massive club” and currently not a “massive team.”

The Portuguese coach said, “That is very clear. We are a massive club, but we are not a massive team. We know it, so not a problem to say it. We have to believe more. We have some good things, but you can feel that there is so much to do. We have to be better in the final third.”

When asked if fans need to manage their expectations over the next few months, Amorim replied, “That will not change due to the glory in the past. Our players have to understand that it is a difficult position. We are not the best team in the league, but our past is the best one in the league. We have a problem, but we have to focus on the little details.”

He added, “Impossible to win the Premier League without a team that doesn’t run. You can do a starting line-up with the best players on the planet, without running they also won’t win. We have to run like mad dogs, if not we won’t win.”

“The problem is can they cope with that? If they are used to it in training, they will do it in games. They can improve. You cannot be faster, but you can run more in training. They are professional athletes. Every coach has a different method of pressing.”

Amorim defended the recent decision by United’s players not to wear Rainbow jackets in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

It emerged that the United squad collectively elected not to wear the jackets before last weekend’s meeting with Everton, after defender Noussair Mazraoui refused to do so, because of his religious beliefs.

Amorim said about this, “It was a group decision as players, as it should be, and then there’s three difficult things to manage.”

“On one side it’s club values, and I think all can agree that it’s not an issue, but then you have religion, which you have to respect. It’s our values to respect other opinions. Then the third thing is the group thing – I won’t leave Nous alone, we’re a team. The majority of the players believe in one thing, but they saw one guy alone and said ‘let’s be together.’”

“It’s three things we have to manage and respect, so it’s a hard issue to address. I think we did it in a good way. We need to respect everything but we also respect the religion of Nous and his culture.”

When asked whether the players will adopt the same stance in the future, Amorim explained, “I don’t know if Nous is going to change his religion and his beliefs. I don’t know. We will address at the time if it comes, but it’s a really hard decision. But there’s no doubt what this club believes and fights for.”

United vs. Forest kicks off at 17:30 GMT.

Man Utd ‘rule out’ free transfer signing as Amorim doesn’t want distraction from ‘clear plan’

Man Utd have ‘no intention’ of signing Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret on a free transfer in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Red Devils were beaten for the fifth time in 14 Premier League matches at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night as Arsenal won 2-0 to move to seven points behind Liverpool, who drew 3-3 at Newcastle.

It was Man Utd’s first loss under Amorim after the Portuguese boss had led them to two wins against Everton and Bodo/Glimt and a draw against Ipswich in his first three matches in charge.

There are worries that Amorim will struggle to move towards the European places without some investment in players who will suit his formation, playing style and philosophy.

Man Utd have been linked to a number of players as Dan Ashworth looks to give Amorim the tools to do his job with speculation that the Portuguese coach could look at players from Sporting CP.

Andre Onana has been one of the most consistent performers for Man Utd this season and solid links to Napoli goalkeeper Meret came as a surprise.

Reliable journalist Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed on Monday that the Red Devils had made ‘concrete’ contact over a potential free transfer for the Italy international.

Plettenberg wrote on X: “The contract of Alex #Meret from SSC Napoli expires at the end of the season, and it is still unclear whether it will be extended. There are already concrete inquiries, and there’s an interest from #Inter and Manchester United. #MUFC.”

However, a report in Spain has now claimed that Man Utd have ‘ruled out’ the ‘free signing’ of Meret after links to Old Trafford earlier in the week.

It won’t distract from Amorim’s ‘clear plan to strengthen’ his squad over the next couple of transfer windows and now ‘seems more likely to extend his contract with the Neapolitan side than to make the jump to the Premier League’.

Man Utd are ‘not among the current suitors, despite initial speculation’ and Meret is ‘still in talks with his club to define his future’ as Napoli look to renew his deal.

And, ‘although the club [Man Utd] is looking for options to reinforce its squad with a reliable substitute, Meret is not in their plans’ and the Red Devils will ‘explore other alternatives in the market to cover that position’.

Former Man Utd winger Lee Sharpe has hailed current Red Devils goalkeeper for turning around his form this season.

Sharpe told TG Casino recently: “Andre Onana’s been phenomenal this season and probably the standout goalkeeper in the Premier League so far. He had a really poor season last year and made some very amateurish mistakes – some of those errors were literally schoolboy mistakes – so for him to come back is really good to see.

“He says he likes the responsibility as a goalkeeper and he’s come on leaps and bounds in a few months. I think a lot of players can learn from the mental strength that he has because he looks a completely different player to what he was last season.”

Transfer options dwindling for key star expected to leave United as move to big club is ruled out – report

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is reportedly not on the radar of Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, despite suggestions that the Super Lig giants are interested in him.

Eriksen is widely expected to leave United once his contract expires in the summer of 2025.

The Red Devils are not expected to offer him a new deal and as it stands, he will be free to depart Old Trafford as a free agent.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Celtic are eyeing a January move for Eriksen, although his high wages could eventually prove to be a stumbling block.

The Dane has also been linked to Fenerbahce. It was mentioned that Mourinho – who worked with Eriksen at Tottenham Hotspur – is keen on reuniting with him in Turkey.

The report divulged that Mourinho had already given his seal of approval for Fenerbahce to pursue Eriksen during the winter transfer window.

However, according to journalist Rudy Galetti, the 32-year-old is currently not a player that Fenerbahce are chasing.

Galetti wrote on X, “Despite some rumors, Fenerbahce don’t consider Christian Eriksen a concrete target.”

“The Turkish club is looking around to strengthen the midfield but, to date, the Man United player is not under its radar.”

Eriksen has not featured for United since Ruben Amorim’s first match against Ipswich Town. On that occasion, he started alongside Casemiro in the middle of the park but they didn’t work too well as a partnership.

He missed the 4-0 win against Everton with an injury but was back in the matchday squad for Wednesday’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Arsenal. Eriksen did not feature in the meeting with the Gunners.

Eriksen has made 14 appearances across all competitions this term. He has registered an impressive four goals and three assists in that period.

“I expected it to be …”: United summer signing opens up on his “difficult” start to life in England

            “i-expected-it-to-be-…”:-united-summer-signing-opens-up-on-his-“difficult”-start-to-life-in-england

Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt has opened up on his difficult start to life in the Premier League, indicating that he is now settled and almost fully acclimated to the demands of English football.

De Ligt joined United in the summer from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Since his arrival, the Netherlands international has been a mainstay in the team. He was a key player under both former manager Erik ten Hag and interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy. New head coach Ruben Amorim has also demonstrated a clear preference for De Ligt as part of his three-man defence.

De Ligt has so far made 19 appearances across all competitions. He has scored one goal in that period. He almost grabbed a second during United’s last game, a 2-0 loss at the hands of Arsenal, but his header was saved by David Raya.

The defender spoke to club media and said, “I feel well settled in now. We are now three months later. I remember my old agent, who, unfortunately, passed away, Mino Raiola, always told me that, normally after six months, you start to feel a little bit better and, after one year, you can say that you are completely settled.”

“Yeah, I think, after three months, I’m quite settled and I already feel good. I feel good with the team, with my team-mates, with the stadium, with the fans. So, hopefully, we can continue like that and me personally also.”

“I expected it [the Premier League] to be like this. Obviously, in the beginning, it’s quite difficult because, first of all, you come from a different league.”

“Second of all, I didn’t have one normal pre-season in the last couple of years. So it was because of injuries and because of the Euros last summer.”

“So it’s quite normal at the beginning that you have some trouble adapting to the pace of the game and to the pace of the players. I feel that game by game, I’m getting better. I’m getting more used to the opponents, about the league, and, yeah, then it becomes a lot easier.”

When asked about his aerial threat, De Ligt remarked, “That’s something that is always important, especially now in modern football. The differences are so, so small. So a set-piece can make a big difference. So, obviously, we train on that a lot. I know that I have good qualities in this area. I think I’m quite strong in the air, jumping. My timing is quite good. So, yeah, hopefully more goals can come.”

The 25-year-old highlighted his ability to play across all three positions of the back-three as one of his greatest strengths.

“I’ve played in the middle but I think I can also play on the left and on the right. I played, also in Bayern Munich, a lot on the left and in the Champions League and competitions like that. So, yeah, I’m quite excited to see where the future is and what will be my best position.”

United are back in action on Saturday when they host Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

Ex-United manager reignites bitter rivalry with PL boss with latest brutal remarks

              ex-united-manager-reignites-bitter-rivalry-with-pl-boss-with-latest-brutal-remarks

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has issued a scathing reply to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who recently reminded everyone that he had won twice as many Premier League titles as the Portuguese.

Last weekend, Guardiola was taunted by Liverpool fans amidst City’s poor run of performances and results. While City were being beaten 2-0 by Arne Slot’s men, Guardiola turned to the Liverpool supporters and raised six fingers, in reference to the number of top-flight titles he has won so far.

In his post-match press conference, it was pointed out to Guardiola that Mourinho did something similar to remind fans of his three Premier League titles before eventually being sacked.

Guardiola said, “I hope not in my case… He won three, I won six… but we are the same like that. We are together in the those situations. To make our fans know that we are much, much better than the people that sing that [Liverpool fans singing sacked in the morning].”

“It [the gesture] was just to make our fans feel that what we have done is extraordinary. I want to prove that we are an incredible football club. Sooner or later it’s going to be the end but I will try to extend as much as possible for the best of my club.”

It seems that Mourinho was not very amused by the remarks of his long-time rival.

In typical Mourinho style, the ex-United gaffer said in response to Guardiola, “Guardiola said something to me yesterday. He won six trophies and I won three, but I won fairly and cleanly.”

“If I lost, I want to congratulate my opponent because he was better than me.”

“I don’t want to win by dealing with 150 lawsuits.”

Mourinho’s comments are in reference to the 115 charges over financial breaches that City are currently facing.

United’s cross-town rivals have been accused of breaching financial fair play regulations over a nine-year span, starting in 2009 after the Abu Dhabi United Group takeover and continuing until 2018.

If City are found guilty, the most severe punishment could be relegation, with other potential penalties including points deductions and fines.

Ten Hag signing ‘wants to leave’ Man Utd in January as English side prepare offer

Man Utd could be forced to replace goalkeeper Altay Bayindir in the January transfer window as he looks for regular football, according to reports.

The Red Devils invested a lot of time and money into Erik ten Hag before making the decision to sack him earlier this season after a terrible start to the new campaign.

Man Utd spent a lot money on new signings during Ten Hag’s reign at the club with their goalkeeping department completely replaced as legendary goalkeeper David de Gea left the club.

Andre Onana came in as first choice 18 months ago, while Bayindir was signed as competition at the Premier League giants and Tom Heaton stayed on as back-up.

Bayindir joined from Turkish giants Fenerbahce in a deal worth £4.3m in the summer of 2023 but he has only made three appearances in all competitions and has yet to play a Premier League match for Man Utd.

The Daily Mail reported on December 3 that Man Utd were hoping to keep the Turkey international until the end of the season but could be forced to sell in January as Bayindir seeks more playing time.

                The report claimed:

“United are assessing their goalkeeping options in case No 2 Altay Bayindir leaves during the January transfer window.

“The Turkey international moved to Old Trafford from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023 for £4.3m as back-up to Andre Onana, and has only made three appearances in the domestic cup competitions.

“Bayindir, 26, is known to want more first-team football and was linked with a move to Celtic in the summer. Confidential understands that United would prefer to wait until the end of the season to replace him, but will be ready to move in January if needed.

“United could look to bring in a new goalkeeper in January if Altay Bayindir (pictured) leaves. They are looking at younger alternatives to veteran Tom Heaton and are keeping an eye on Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson, although the 24-year-old is also of interest to Tottenham.”

And now a report in Turkish outlet Fotospor insists that Bayindir ‘wants to leave’ Man Utd and that Championship side Hull City – who have a Turkish owner – ‘wants to sign’ the goalkeeper in January.

Hull have ‘a big problem in goal’ with loan signing Carl Rushworth struggling to stay fit and Anthony Racioppi – who was brought in from Young Boys in the summer – not producing good form for the Tigers.

United open talks to sign phenomenal €75m forward, personal terms expected to be agreed easily – report

                  united-open-talks-to-sign-phenomenal-e75m-forward,-personal-terms-expected-to-be-agreed-easily-–-report

Manchester United are reportedly in the driving seat to land Viktor Gyokeres, having already opened talks to sign the Sporting CP talisman.

Erik ten Hag’s departure has thrown Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s future at United into doubt, as both strikers are yet to show they are capable of leading the line in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

Accordingly, Amorim’s arrival has led to United being linked with a number of top strikers across Europe. However, no one has made more headlines than Gyokeres, who was simply phenomenal under the Portuguese at Sporting.

The Sweden international moved to Lisbon from Coventry City in 2023 and hit the ground running under Amorim.

He scored 43 goals across all competitions in his debut campaign before adding another 25 in just 22 appearances this term.

The 26-year-old, who possesses impeccable pace and physicality, is certainly an ideal number nine for Amorim and it appears the United board also believe the same.

Manchester United make a move for Viktor Gyokeres

According to CaughtOffside, United have “begun talks to sign” the Sporting superstar, who can allegedly be signed “next summer for around €70m/€75m.”

Manchester City, who saw Gyokeres score a hattrick against them in the Champions League earlier this season, have also started exploring the possibility of signing him. It remains to be seen how Erling Haaland’s presence at the Etihad would impact City’s pursuit.

It is understood the Red Devils are the “favourites” to secure the Swede’s services, owing to his relationship with Amorim.

The United gaffer has already spoken to his former striker and “personal terms are not expected to be an issue.”

The club’s hierarchy are willing to offer him a contract until 2029 and are thought to be confident of winning the race for the in-form forward.

Meanwhile, Zirkzee has been linked with a return to Italy. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the ex-Bologna star wants to exit Old Trafford amid interest from Juventus.

                    “angry”-agent-of-world-class-star-now-“wants-to-listen-to-offers-from-united”-amid-tensions-in-contract-talks-–-report

Fresh details of apparent tensions in contract talks between the camp of Alphonso Davies and Bayern Munich have emerged, even as he continues to be linked to Manchester United.

Davies is entering the final six months of his current contract, making him a potential bargain for Real Madrid, who have had their eye on the Canada international for some time. However, United have joined the race of his signature.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that new United head coach Ruben Amorim is keen on having the player join his ranks.

It was thought that United were close to landing Davies but in a sensational twist, Sky Germany revealed that the Canada international and Bayern were close to reaching an agreement over fresh terms, after the player made some important concessions with regard to his wage demands.

This was re-affirmed by Bayern Sporting Director, Christoph Freund who stated that the Bundesliga giants are positive about their prospects of keeping Davies beyond the summer of 2025.

On Thursday, BILD journalist Christian Falk divulged that United have requested a January meeting with Davies and his representatives, presumably to try and convince him to seal a blockbuster switch to Old Trafford.

Falk has now given an update on the situation, indicating that there are some tensions between Davies’ camp and Bayern, which are threatening to break down negotiations.

Falk wrote on X, “The Agent of Alphonso Davies (24), Nick Househ, is angry about the way the negotiations are being conducted by FC Bayern.”

“Househ had canceled a planned trip to Munich.”

“The talks were held via video session. However, Max Eberl did not participate. This surprised the Davies-Part.”

“The Agent of Davies now wants to listen to the offers from Manchester United and Real Madrid, meetings are planned for January.”

If this uncertain situation persists, it may very well work in United’s favour, as they bid to bring in Davies. It’s certainly one for fans to keep a close eye on.

Manchester United could potentially land one of the Premier League’s hottest young talents on the cheap if latest reports are to be believed.

Southampton may be rooted to the bottom of the league table but Tyler Dibling has impressed one and all this season with the Red Devils scouting him regularly with a view to try and acquire him in the summer.

Diogo Dalot, who played as a left-back in United’s 3-0 win at St Mary’s Stadium will know all about the forward. The Portuguese just could not handle Dibling’s pace and trickery and conceded a penalty, which thankfully, Andre Onana saved.

With the Saints likely to get relegated, the England U21 international could potentially be available on the cheap. And technical director Jason Wilcox knows all about him.

Wilcox a huge fan of Dibling

In fact, it was Wilcox who suggested to Russell Martin, the Southampton boss, to hand Dibling more minutes, something the Southampton boss revealed recently.

“Jason Wilcox was pushing for us to play him more last season, but he wasn’t quite ready. It’s been beautiful to watch Tyler’s journey so far and he needs to keep going,” Martin was quoted as saying.

And the 18-year-old has certainly grasped his opportunity with both hands. He has scored once and provided two assists while creating 11 chances for his teammates.

The left-footed attacker can play on the right, up front and even as a No 10 and his versatility could prove to be a valuable asset for Ruben Amorim with Antony likely to depart soon.

However, the 20-time English league champions are not the only team eyeing the talented teen with Aston Villa also in the race. He is also on the radar of clubs in Germany and Italy as well according to The Sun.

                      United scouting him regularly

“SOUTHAMPTON’S Tyler Dibling is being watched by TWO Premier League giants, SunSport can reveal. The midfielder has been one of the only bright sparks in a season which has seen the Saints left rooted to the bottom of the table.

“Manchester United and Aston Villa have both sent scouts to watch his last three games and he’s believed to be on the radar of clubs in Germany and Italy as well.

“It’s likely any deal for the player would be in the summer as Southampton are not ready to sell with relegation a looming threat. But if the Saints do finish in the bottom three they could struggle to keep hold of the player.”

The Exeter-born star’s current market value stands at only €5 million, a potential steal for any club and United should be all over this deal in the summer given the player’s age and profile.
