“Here we go”: Fabrizio Romano confirms defensive protégé has “signed all documents” to join United

    “here-we-go”:-fabrizio-romano-confirms-defensive-protege-has-“signed-all-documents”-to-join-united

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign 17-year-old fullback Diego Leon but the Paraguayan youngster will only join the ranks at Old Trafford next summer.

United’s interest in Leon was first revealed in November with technical director Jason Wilcox leading negotiations for the talented defender, who has reportedly attracted attention from other major clubs in Europe.

A deal was agreed quickly after worth $6 million, with the Red Devils keen to add Leon to their ranks ahead of any potential rivals.

And now Romano has revealed the 17-year-old has “signed all documents” required to make the move official, though United fans will have to wait until the summer before seeing the Paraguayan defender in action, as he only turns 18 in April.

Tweet: “Diego León has signed all documents to join Manchester United in 2025. Contracts in place for 17 year old left back to become Man United player from July 2025, when he turns 18.

Deal sealed by Jason Wilcox after South America lead scout Giuseppe Antonaccio pushed for León as talent. Paraguayan LB joins from Cerro Porteno for $4m fixed fee, $1m easy add-ons, $2/3k extra difficult add-ons.

    Here we go, confirmed.”

Leon is a left-sided fullback with a potent pairing of pace and physicality – a combination which makes him appear ideally suited to the rigours of English football, as well as two attributes the current United squad are lacking in.

But, even more tantalisingly, the LWB position is the biggest glaring weakness for new head coach Ruben Amorim with both first-team options – Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia – suffering from long-standing injury issues.

While Shaw, 29, appears an ideal fit for the role, his body is simply incapable of matching the intense physical demands a left wingback is subject to. And Malacia, despite having recovered from his serious knee injury, lacks the technical skill Amorim requires from his wingbacks, and has shown a slowness since returning.

Leon is a physical monster who is capable of flying up and down the left flank at great speed, with his intensity in and out of possession making him a potentially perfect player in Amorim’s system.

However, the Portuguese coach will not be able to cast his eye over the first signing in his tenure at Old Trafford until next summer and it is unrealistic to expect a player so young, moving from South America to England, to adapt immediately.

An experienced left wingback will still be a priority for United’s recruitment team over the coming transfer windows, despite the resounding success of signing such a talented starlet so smoothly.

“They have raised their…”: Rival PL coach believes Amorim has improved United’s biggest weakness under Ten Hag

      “they-have-raised-their…”:-rival-pl-coach-believes-amorim-has-improved-united’s-biggest-weakness-under-ten-hag

AFC Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has revealed he believes Manchester United are able to “keep games more under control” since Ruben Amorim’s appointment in November – a quality the team consistently failed to demonstrate under the previous incumbent, Erik ten Hag.

The Cherries travel to Old Trafford on Sunday to face United in a key fixture heading into the hectic Christmas period.

Despite the Red Devils being languished in 13th in the Premier League table, and Bournemouth impressively stationed in 6th place, only three points separate the two sides.

Indeed, United would leapfrog their opponents in the league if they win on Sunday, reflecting just how tightly packed the middle of the division is and offering optimism to fans that Champions League qualification is not yet out of reach.

And while results since Amorim swapped Lisbon for Manchester have been inconsistent with four wins, one draws and three losses in all competitions, there has been an obvious improvement in the style of football United are playing.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Iraola acknowledged the strides his opponents this weekend have made in a short period of time under their new coach, contrasting it to the performances earlier in the season under Ten Hag.

“I think they are different. They play in a different way, different system, different approach to the game,” Aroala stated. “I think they keep the games more under control. They have raised their possession on the ball and they have really good patterns that fully allow them to dictate the game.”

This notion of more “control” is perhaps the biggest improvement United have made in comparison to the chaotic football which came to characterise the Ten Hag era.

The Dutch manager, despite forging his reputation at Ajax, appeared unbothered by the positives possession of the football provides, instead instructing his players to seek to force transitions as much as possible.

This produced end-to-end games which, while entertaining for the neutral, often led to United’s defence capitulating last season under the pressure of relentless attacks, as the club fell to their worst Premier League finish in history.

And while the defensive statistics improved this season, with the club investing heavily in two of Ten Hag’s former pupils (Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui), it was not sufficient to save the Dutchman’s job after a series of dismal results.

Iraola believes this solidity in defence has continued to improve under Amorim, likely aided by the Portuguese coach’s 3-4-3 system and his emphasis on control through possession. “They have signed also new defenders, good defenders, and improved from past season defensively overall and I think they are continuing [to improve] now.”

It’s a testament to Amorim’s skillset as a coach that he has been able to imprint his mark midway through a season, on a completely new squad of players, so quickly; and it’s an improvement on the pitch which is making rival Premier League managers take note.

“I will definitely bring him”: Shock suitors planning sensational United raid for €55m superstar – report

        “i-will-definitely-bring-him”:-shock-suitors-planning-sensational-united-raid-for-e55m-superstar-–-report

Manchester United have played their last two games without second-top scorer and talisman Marcus Rashford with head coach Ruben Amorim explaining that he was far from pleased with his overall application on and off the pitch.

The decision was supported by the INEOS hierarchy and the Mancunian has since come out and publicly revealed his desire to part ways with his boyhood club.

The Portuguese has hinted that the Englishman could continue to find himself on the sidelines till he gets his focus back and all signs point towards an imminent exit.

However, his market value of €55 million as per Transfermarkt coupled with his humongous wages of £375,000 per week (as per capology) has meant not too many clubs can afford to sign him.

        Rashford’s suitors

Barcelona have already left the race while Paris Saint-Germain have also announced that they cannot cough up the required funds to sign the 27-year-old.

Atletico Madrid have proposed a loan offer but the United hierarchy are in favour of a straight sale so that they use the funds raised to bring in reinforcements for Amorim.

Saudi Pro League clubs could come forward but the England international has no interest in leaving Europe for the riches of the Middle East just yet.

Surprisingly, A Spor have linked Turkish giants Galatasaray with a move for the United No 10 with agent George Gardi claiming that should the forward be ready to depart, he will bring him to Gala.

        Rashford wanted by Galatasaray

“Galatasaray have put a star playing in the Premier League on their radar. Galatasaray want the English footballer (Rashford), who was on the agenda of clubs such as PSG, Bayern Munich and Marseille.”

“If he decides to leave the team, I will definitely bring him,” the agent was quoted as saying.

Whether the Turkish giants can afford to pay United’s asking price remains to be seen. The most they have ever spent on a player is €18 million, a price INEOS will never accept.

The number of clubs who can afford Rashford is shrinking by the minute and it will be intriguing to see how INEOS handle this latest saga.

Man Utd to ‘launch offer’ to ‘steal’ signing with INEOS disagreement the ‘reason’ for £46m transfer obstacle

          man-utd-to-‘launch-offer’-to-‘steal’-signing-with-ineos-disagreement-the-‘reason’-for-46m-transfer-obstacle

Manchester United are reportedly planning to ‘launch an offer’ to sign Real Sociedad star Luka Sucic, while INEOS have doubts about another midfielder.

Head coach Ruben Amorim has a big job at Man Utd as the Premier League giants have lost three of their past five matches across all competitions.

This form leaves Man Utd 13th in the Premier League table, but they are only six points adrift of the Champions League places.

The Red Devils are linked with several potential targets ahead of the January transfer window and Sucic is the latest possible target to get a mention.

After successful spells at FC Liefering and Red Bull Salzburg, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder joined La Liga outfit Real Sociedad for around £8m in the summer.

The Croatia international’s positive start to this season has seemingly not gone unnoticed as a report in Spain claims Man Utd ‘want to steal’ him from Real Sociedad.

It is claimed that Man Utd are already ready to ‘launch an offer’ to sign the midfielder. The report explains:

‘The English giant seems willing to launch an offer of 40 million euros (around £33m) to secure the services of the young 22-year-old midfielder.’

As mentioned, Man Utd reportedly have plenty of players on their radar and Atalanta defensive midfielder Ederson is another option.

In the summer, the 24-year-old was reportedly targeted by several Premier League clubs and could secure himself a big move elsewhere in January or next summer.

German journalist Florian Plettenberg claims Man Utd are ‘seriously considering’ a move for Ederson, but club chiefs are clashing on this possible deal.

Plettenberg explained: “Once again been told that #Ederson is one of the few names Manchester United are seriously considering for the central midfield position

“Some decision-makers are fully convinced of his abilities. However, there is not yet a complete consensus within the club. For this reason, there are no concrete negotiations at this stage.

“But #MUFC have gathered all the necessary information and have scouted him multiple times. Contract with Atalanta until 2027. Price valuation. €50-60m (a maximum of around £46m).”

The futures of several Man Utd stars are in doubt heading into 2025 and Antony is one player who has been linked with an exit. Despite this, Amorim has promised to “help him be a better player”.

Amorim said: “He needs more confidence. I will help him to be a better player. If you remember the Antony in Ajax…

“He lacks a little bit of confidence to go one against one. He will improve… he just has to do that, to work really hard”.

Arsenal legend passionately defends under-fire United star against critics “desperate” to see him fail

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has launched a passionate and public defence of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, insisting that they are people eager to see him fail.

Rashford has dominated headlines over the past few days, amidst suggestions that United are prepared to sell him either in the January transfer window or in the summer.

It has been suggested that Rashford has failed to impress Ruben Amorim and there is a belief his time at Old Trafford is finally up.

The England international has been axed from United’s last two matchday squads against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup.

Earlier this week, Rashford spoke to journalist Henry Winter and revealed that he is open to leaving his boyhood club in search of a fresh challenge.

It’s understood that the 27-year-old’s options are very limited due to his hefty wages and declining performances.

As United slipped to a 4-3 loss to Spurs on Thursday evening, some travelling supporters revealed a banner which read, “Excuses. Ta ra, Marcus,” hinting that they were happy to see him part ways with the club in the near future.

His uncertain situation at United and future prospects have sparked a lot of debate within the media and the fanbase.

Amidst all this, Wright swung to Rashford’s defence. The former Arsenal striker wrote on Instagram, “I got to Arsenal at 28, but you expect ME to write off someone with the ability Marcus has at 27!!!!”

“So many of you are desperate to see these young people fail so that you can say you were right!”

Wright added, “You would take one per cent of the career Marcus has had!”

Reacting to Wright’s comments, ex-United star Jadon Sancho extended his support via X.

Liverpool set ‘sights’ on £45m ‘secret weapon’ as Man Utd warned over ‘race’ for alternative

              liverpool-set-‘sights’-on-45m-‘secret-weapon’-as-man-utd-warned-over-‘race’-for-alternative

Liverpool have a “secret weapon in their sights” as they scour the transfer market for a replacement for Andy Robertson, but Manchester United have been warned they’re also “in the race” for one of Ruben Amorim’s top targets.

Robertson had endured a tough campaign even before being sent off early on in the Reds’ 2-2 draw with Fulham on Sunday, with that moment appearing to strengthen their resolve to source a replacement.

Fulham’s Antonee Robinson and Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez have been heavily linked but BILD journalist Christian Falk claims Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremy Frimpong is also on their radar.

“True: That Jeremie Frimpong is on the shortlist at Liverpool. He’s a very special player. He can play many positions and that makes him so interesting for Liverpool,” Falk told Caughtoffside.

“There are no concrete talks yet at the moment, but he’s in their sights.

“The head coach at Liverpool, Arne Slot, is Dutch, and it’s evident he has a good relationship with Dutch players. There is another thing worth mentioning: Trent Alexander-Arnold said it’s very good for him to have a coach who is explaining to him very clearly how to play his position. This shows Slot likes to have some tactical variation.

READ MORE: Seven Liverpool options to replace finished Andy Robertson include Newcastle, Milan defenders

“Xabi Alonso does this as well; Frimpong is not always playing the same way at Bayer Leverkusen. If you want to change your system during a match, he can be a secret weapon. Frimpong has always tended to show this, especially against Bayern Munich; he was always a key player when he started or came in off the bench.

“This makes him so interesting for his potential suitors. However, a release clause of €40m is a lot.”

But the German reporter also claims Liverpool are “in the race” for Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, whose been heavily linked with both Manchester United and Real Madrid with his contract with the Bundesliga giants expiring in the summer.

“True: Alphonso Davies is open to a potential transfer away from Bayern Munich,” Falk added.

“He’s not 100% fixed on Manchester United or Real Madrid. I heard that talks with Bayern, at the moment, are on ice until January.

“His agent, Nick Huoseh, will talk with any interested top club in the new year. When Huoseh is on his tour of England, Liverpool could get a meeting with him. It would be a good club for Davies, of course, given they play a style of football that would suit him. Liverpool, naturally, have a chance.

“I think Manchester United and Real Madrid are more concrete by comparison at this point in time. Bayern are also applying pressure to sign him up to a new contract. They’re still hopeful about making this work. So, Liverpool are still in the race, if they want him.”

United ready to bid €40m for La Liga midfielder who has stood out for his “technical quality and vision” – report

                united-ready-to-bid-e40m-for-la-liga-midfielder-who-has-stood-out-for-his-“technical-quality-and-vision”-–-report

Manchester United are keen on signing Real Sociedad star Luka Sucic, as per Fichajes.

United’s midfield issues yet again came to the fore against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup. Ruben Amorim rested Kobbie Mainoo, handing Christian Eriksen an opportunity to partner Manuel Ugarte in the middle of the park.

Ange Postecoglou’s men overran United’s midfield and scored three goals within the first hour, forcing Amorim to make a flurry of changes, albeit that didn’t prove enough.

The Red Devils could do with reinforcements all across the pitch, but their midfield, in particular, is too light and lacks both physical and technical prowess.

Manchester United willing to test Real Sociedad’s resolve for Luka Sucic

According to Fichajes, United are prepared to strengthen their midfield by making an ambitious move for Sucic.

The Croatia international moved to San Sebastian from RB Salzburg in the summer in a deal reported to be worth €10m.

In no time, he has established himself as one of the most crucial players at Sociedad, having made 17 appearances across all competitions.

Capable of playing as a central midfielder as well as an attacking midfielder, he has impressed with his technical quality and vision under Imanol Alguacil.

The Spanish outlet claims that his performances and skill sets have “not gone unnoticed” by United, who are reportedly “willing to launch an offer of €40 million” to sign the 22-year-old midfield prodigy.

Considering Sucic only joined the side just a few months ago, it is hard to imagine he would be allowed to exit imminently.

However, the report adds that the figure that United are open to offer could be “difficult to turn down” for the La Liga outfit.

Amid United’s midfield shortage, the Premier League giants have been also advised to explore the possibility of signing their former midfielder Paul Pogba by club legend Dwight Yorke.

Man Utd, Tottenham players condemned as ‘clowns’ with ‘no blame’ on Forster over two errors

                  man-utd,-tottenham-players-condemned-as-‘clowns’-with-‘no-blame’-on-forster-over-two-errors

Gabby Agbonlahor has branded the Man Utd and Tottenham players as “clowns” after watching Spurs win 4-3 in the Carabao Cup on Thursday night.

Ange Postecoglou’s side moved into the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup in an error-strewn match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Man Utd found themselves 3-0 down on 54 minutes with a brace from Dominic Solanke and another goal from Dejan Kulusevski putting Spurs in control.

However, two mistakes from Fraser Forster gifted Man Utd a way back into the match with Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo taking advantage of the Tottenham goalkeeper’s sloppiness on the ball to make it 3-2.

Son Heung-min scored a fourth for Tottenham late on before Jonny Evans got a third for the Red Devils but it was too little too late for Ruben Amorim’s outfit.

Speaking after the entertaining clash, Agbonlahor said: “It was like two sets of clowns playing each other. The defending… Spurs going forward were very good.

“Manchester United woke up a little bit in the second half thanks to some mistakes from Forster, but the defending, wow.

“I hammered Southampton’s defence, but wow. I don’t blame Forster at all, I blame the manager and the rest of the players.”

On Forster’s mistakes, Agbonlahor continued: “Forster, how long has he been around now, he’s 37. He’s always been a shot-stopper, he’s never been a keeper to play with his feet.

“I played with so many goalkeepers that if they were playing now they’d be exactly like Forster. They don’t want it.”

Speaking after the match, Postecoglou admitted that a lot of Tottenham’s pain in the second half was “self-inflicted” after being in such a commanding lead against Man Utd.

Postecoglou told a post-match press conference: “We were. We played so well, well in control of the game. It’s the way our season has gone a little bit, we self-inflicted some pain on ourselves and then we had to scramble to get a foothold again, ended up getting a fourth and winning the game.

“It should have been a lot more comfortable than it ended up being but having said that I still can’t get away from the fact this group of players is doing an unbelievable job at the moment to get us through this. The fact is we again scored four goals and played some outstanding football.

“We got tired in the second half because we have a small number of players we keep putting out there. Obviously, that made it tighter than the game should have been, but I’m so proud of the players’ efforts.”

Man City have shock ‘interest’ in loan deal for Man Utd star with £50m option

                    man-city-have-shock-‘interest’-in-loan-deal-for-man-utd-star-with-50m-option

Man City have been named as one of eight clubs interested in a loan deal with a purchase option for Man Utd winger Alejandro Garnacho, according to reports.

Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim chose to leave Garnacho and team-mate Marcus Rashford out of his 20-man squad to face Man City in their 2-1 Manchester Derby victory.

That result kept Man Utd in 13th position in the Premier League table but it did close the gap on Man City to just five points after 16 games, with the Red Devils finishing last season 31 points behind the Citizens.

It was a good result for Amorim but the Portuguese head coach, like many of his recent predecessors, has struggled to halt the inconsistency in performances and results.

Man Utd have been linked to a number of players ahead of the January transfer window with rumours Garnacho and Rashford could now leave Old Trafford in the winter market.

Garnacho was already attracting interest as one of the best prospects in world football but the winger could now reportedly leave on the Red Devils’ terms.

And now journalist Ekrem Konur insists that Man City and other clubs around the world are looking to sign Garnacho on loan with a €60m (£50m) purchase option.

Konur wrote on X: “Alejandro Garnacho has attracted interest from a European club to sign him on loan from Manchester United with a 60 million euro permanent purchase option.

“This club, as yet undisclosed, have stated Garnacho as their main transfer target to strengthen their squad due to his young age and performances. Interested Clubs: Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, FC Bayern Munich, Chelsea, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Al Hilal.”

Romano told GiveMeSport: “All quiet around Garnacho at the moment, no concrete talks taking place; he shares the same agent with Amad who’s close to extending his contract, so relationship is very good.”

Garnacho has struggled to impress under new Man Utd boss Amorim and former Red Devils assistant manager Rene Meulensteen insists the Argentina international doesn’t “suit” his system.

Meulensteen told Instant Casino: “I don’t think Alejandro Garnacho suits Ruben Amorim’s system. The wing-back position is completely different to being a winger – you must be good in both parts of the pitch whether you’re attacking or defending.

“I also don’t think he suits being in the front three of this system either as the two behind the striker are more advanced 8s or 10s, whereas Garnacho is more of a typical winger that wants to hog the line and get the ball to feet.

“It’s clear that Garnacho needs to adapt if he is to get into this team. If he learns how to play in that pocket and how to link with other players, then there still a possibility he could be part of the team because he’s a good player with good skills. If he doesn’t adapt, then we could see more of what happened in yesterday’s game.”

Long-term admirers could find it tough to afford United superstar, they are looking at Amorim favourite as alternative – report

Manchester United new head coach Ruben Amorim has not been afraid to ruffle some feathers as seen from his bold selection calls in the last two games.

The Portuguese’s decision to start Altay Bayindir in goal against Tottenham Hotspur did not pay off but the biggest talking point has been his decision to drop Marcus Rashford for both the Manchester derby and the Carabao Cup tie.

Amorim pointed to below-par training displays and the player’s attitude behind the decision and the Mancunian has since revealed in an interview that he is open to leaving his boyhood club.

The academy graduate’s place in the matchday squad against Bournemouth on Sunday is also far from certain and all signs point towards an imminent exit.

PSG could find it hard to land Rashford

So far, there has only been concrete interest from Saudi Arabia but the player does not want to leave Europe at this stage of his career.

His current market value of €55 million as per Transfermarkt coupled with his humongous wages of £375,000 per week (as per capology) means not many European giants can afford the United No 10 as seen from Barcelona recently leaving the race.

Atletico Madrid are eyeing a loan deal, something INEOS will be hesitant to accept as they are looking at a straight sale and as per CaughtOffside, long-term admirers Paris Saint-Germain will also struggle to afford the Mancunian.

The Ligue 1 giants have spoken to the forward’s camp in the past but no move had materialised. And it seems Rashford’s hopes of landing up at the Parc des Princes could be dashed yet again.

“Sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that PSG remain keen on Rashford after previously holding talks with him in the past, though there could now be an issue with agreeing a deal.

“Man Utd want £50m to let Rashford go, but his recent dip in form and public criticism from Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim will likely mean clubs aren’t willing to pay quite that much.

                      Gyokeres an alternative

“CaughtOffside have been told that PSG could be interested in Rashford, but not at that price, and so the Ligue 1 giants are looking at a number of other attacking talents.”

In a more concerning update, PSG might look to Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres as a potential alternative. It is well known that the Swede is a favourite of the United boss and that the Red Devils have their eyes on him for next summer.

“Viktor Gyokeres is one of the names on PSG’s list, and he’s undoubtedly one of the most exciting attacking players in world football right now after a stunning record of 70 goals in just 75 games during his time with Sporting Lisbon.”

At this rate, United might find it hard to find the perfect suitor for Rashford and that might end up impacting their ability to land Gyokeres. All eyes will be on how INEOS handle the situation.
