Video: Sir Alex Ferguson pays touching tribute to Kath Phipps at funeral of long-serving United receptionist

Legendary Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson paid a touching tribute to beloved former club receptionist Kath Phipps at a funeral service on Monday.

Phipps worked for United for over 55 years, having initially joined them in 1968 as a switchboard operator.

She worked in a number of roles at the club but mostly became known as a receptionist at the team’s training ground, where she built a strong bond with the players, her colleagues and even outsiders who regularly visited the facility.

Last month, United announced the heartbreaking news of Phipps’ passing, triggering an avalanche of tributes and messages of condolences.

Her funeral service was held earlier today and was attended by a litany of United legends and the club’s current crop of players led by Ruben Amorim.

Some of those present were Brian Kidd, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, Roy Keane, Paul Parker, Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, Denis Irwin, Mark Hughes, Michael Carrick, Wes Brown, John O’Shea, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

According to Manchester Evenings News, Eric Cantona sent his apologies as he was filming. Nemanja Vidic and Juan Mata had commitments in Serbia and Australia respectively.

During the service, it emerged that multiple members of the United family had visited Phipps in her final weeks to check up on her.

Speaking at the occasion, Sir Alex said to the current squad, “Good result last night. Well done. Kathy would have loved that.”

When Ferguson visited Phipps in The Christie, she was enjoying a Bacardi and Coke. The Scot asked her, “Have you asked the doctor about that?” She responded, “I haven’t told him.”

Shortly after the funeral, Ferguson told BBC, “She was a special person, she loved people.”

“The thing that comes out of that is you look at her life and you can’t think of a moment when you can say she didn’t enjoy her life. She was a real United person.”

When asked about Phipps’ status as a United legend, Ferguson remarked, “Without question, 55 years! I did 26 and I thought that was unbelievable.”

“She was a fantastic person and I was really glad that all the players turned up. That was a brilliant moment and she would appreciate that.”

Jonny Evans, who was really close to Phipps said, “A remarkable lady. She was the best on a good day and the best on a bad day.”

“Not one person ever walked past Kath without a short embrace. When she came back to work at the start of the summer I gave her a lift home. It was like driving royalty.”

Former club captain Bryan Robson told United media, “She was just fabulous. Right from when I came to the club in 1981, she started doing my mail and she was still doing it right up until the sad day when she died. But that was the woman she was, she was a great person.”

Peter Schmeichel also spoke lovingly about Phipps, stating, “I grew up as a Manchester United supporter and she was the very, very first Manchester United person that I ever met. Five years before I joined the club, I was here for an Under-21s international against England and we were playing that game at Maine Road.”

“I persuaded my coach to get the bus to go around Old Trafford so I could see it. I went into reception and Kath was there. I didn’t know it was Kath at that time, and she didn’t know who I was. I said ‘I am playing this game and I’m a big Man United fan, is there any chance that I could see the stadium from the inside?’ and she organised it.”

“Five years later, I joined the club and I spent a lot of time with her in the eight years I was here.”

United to “shake up the European transfer market” with blockbuster player-plus-cash deal to land red-hot talisman – report

Manchester United battled back to grab a point at Anfield with Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo grabbing both goals in the second half against Liverpool.

The Argentine’s finish for the first goal was worth watching, hitting it beyond Allison at the near post. Rasmus Hojlund had an identical chance in the first half which he wasted and Ruben Amorim will be worried about the Dane’s form.

He looked lost on his own up front once again and hardly managed to make the ball stick under pressure while his finishing has left a lot to be desired in recent weeks.

With Joshua Zirkzee seemingly on his way out and Marcus Rashford also looking to leave, the head coach will be desperate for INEOS to bring in reinforcements if possible in January.

      Osimhen a top target

Viktor Gyokeres would have been the perfect addition but the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss’ promise to his former employers could mean the Red Devils will miss out in the winter.

A summer deal also looks in danger as that is why the club has been forced to look elsewhere with red-hot Victor Osimhen emerging as a blockbuster alternative.

Plenty of recent reports have stated that the Nigerian is keen to join the Old Trafford side as part of a swap deal which would see Rashford heading to Napoli.

The hitman has scored 13 goals in 16 appearances for loan club Galatasaray, while providing a further four assists.

The Turkish giants do not want to lose the 26-year-old midway into the season but that could change if United up their offer for the Nigeria international.

      Rashford-plus-cash for Osimhen

As relayed by F365, United are willing to send Rashford as well as €20 million to the Naples club to secure the Nigeria international but the Serie A giants might demand more, keeping in mind the compensation needed to be paid to Gala.

“United would be willing to part with Rashford in an operation that could shake up the European transfer market: a swap with Napoli for Victor Osimhen.

“The initial proposal would include the English striker plus 20 million euros to convince the Italian team. However, the Neapolitan club, known for its toughness in negotiations, could demand a higher figure to let their top star leave.”

Rashford can look at Scott McTominay to understand how the lack of media scrutiny can help bring out the best in players. But whether Napoli will agree to the proposal or whether Osimhen will jump ship mid-season remains to be seen.

United to push to sign “irreplaceable” PL forward, ready to pay £41.5m in January – report

United to push to sign “irreplaceable” PL forward, ready to pay £41.5m in January – report

Manchester United are ready to make a push for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, as per Fichajes.

United delivered their most convincing performance of the Ruben Amorim era against Liverpool on Sunday and yet they could only steal a point at Anfield.

In the 2-2 draw, the Red Devils were simply brilliant and could have scored more goals and grabbed all three points if they had more clinical forwards. Rasmus Hojlund, in particular, was a frustrating figure. He wasted a glorious chance in the first half and his movement all night was atrocious.

Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s underwhelming performances have intensified the need of a new goalscorer at Old Trafford and a report from Spain suggest the Mancunians are prepared to make a move in January.

Manchester United want to sign Bryan Mbeumo

According to Fichajes, Mbeumo has grabbed United’s attention with his prolific form this season.

The 25-year-old has played as a centre forward, right-winger, right-sided midfielder, and second striker under Thomas Frank.

He has an impressive 13 goals and three assists in 20 Premier League appearances this term.

The Spanish outlet claims United are “willing to pay” €50 million (£41.5m) to secure his signature.

It is claimed the Old Trafford hierarchy consider the versatile forward as “the solution to the offensive problems” which have consistently impacted their results under Amorim. The club wants to renew their frontline for their new gaffer.

However, it is understood that Brentford are “not entirely convinced to accept the offer” as they consider the Cameroonian an “irreplaceable” star.

Despite Brentford’s reluctance, United are expected to push to “close the transfer” before the end of the ongoing winter transfer window.

The next few weeks could be decisive, not only for Mbeumo but also for Zirkzee, who is on Juventus’ radar after falling out of favour under Amorim.

Man Utd: Scholes reveals one Red Devils star has ‘surprised’ him after Liverpool draw

Man Utd: Scholes reveals one Red Devils star has ‘surprised’ him after Liverpool draw

Former Man Utd midfielder Paul Scholes was impressed by Manuel Ugarte’s “quality on the ball” as the Red Devils drew 2-2 against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Red Devils are having a terrible season but got a brilliant point at Anfield over the weekend to move up one place in the Premier League table to 13th.

Man Utd went ahead on 52 minutes when Lisandro Martinez crashed a shot off the cross bar and into Alisson’s net, before Cody Gakpo equalised seven minutes later with a brilliant run and shot.

Liverpool then took the lead through a Mohamed Salah penalty after Matthijs de Ligt had handled the ball in the area, but Man Utd had the final say as Amad Diallo equalised ten minutes later.

Harry Maguire could have won it 30 seconds from the end but his shot blazed over the cross bar from inside the box with Ruben Amorim’s side taking heart from a good point at their arch-rivals.

Ugarte, who signed from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer for £41m, was brilliant as he came up against a Liverpool midfield trio of Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones.

And Man Utd legend Scholes admits that Ugarte’s performance after being recalled to the starting line-up at Anfield “surprised” him.

Scholes said on Premier League Productions: “Yeah, he has to be and I think all them [Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Kobbie Mainoo] are capable of playing with him.

“I think Mainoo would be the best one once he’s right, once he’s playing and his fitness is better.

“Partnerships all over the pitch are important and you look at Manchester United, you don’t really see any partnerships, you don’t see links between players, you don’t see a link between a midfielder and a forward.

“Ugarte and another one are more than capable of playing for that team. And not just Ugarte for his legs… I even think his quality on the ball, it surprised me a little bit because I did see a bit of him at PSG.”

On Ugarte’s start as a Man Utd player, Scholes added: “He’s probably done better than I thought he would do.

“He [Amorim] said before that Ugarte did well for him at Sporting Lisbon, as a really young player as well so he knows him.

“This lad is really growing in confidence. I thought he took up some great positions, he helped defensively, he helped with the attack and I thought he had the composure to take the ball as well.

“It looks to me like it has to be him with another.”

Scholes believes that Man Utd showed the “blueprint” for future performances against Liverpool as they went “toe to toe” with the Premier League leaders.

The Man Utd legend continued: “That was a proper performance today. To go to Anfield and go toe to toe with the best team…

“They beat Manchester City who have been the best team for four or five years but that performance was nothing like this. This was better.

“I know they didn’t win the game like they did at City but I take more out of that performance than actually winning against the champions.

“I think, now, that’s the blueprint, that’s the way they go forward, that’s the standard.

“By now, the manager should know his players. He has chopped and changed so much and this has to be [close to his strongest team].

“Who else can come into it? Luke Shaw, possibly if he’s fit. Leny Yoro at centre-half, Alejandro Garnacho, possibly, but I don’t think he quite gets into it.

“If that starting XI is fit then they have to play until players perform badly and they don’t get into the team.

“That’s the standard that they’ve set and they have to reach in games to come. I can’t see any reason why they can’t do it.”

German giants “have started talks” to hijack United’s deal for Amorim favourite – report

Despite the odds being firmly stacked against them, Manchester United produced their best performance under Ruben Amorim on Sunday as they battled to a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

As seen in the Manchester derby, the team once again showed big-game temperament with a marked contrast in performance levels from the Newcastle defeat.

Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes’ returns were the catalysts while Diogo Dalot also impressed in the left wingback role, showing that when the players want, they can produce the goods in the head coach’s desired system.

Goals from Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo were enough to grab a point but Amorim will be concerned with what he saw Rasmus Hojlund produce up front.

Rasmus struggled again, Amorim needs help

The Dane hardly managed to make the ball stick under pressure and his feeble attempt when put through on goal was reminiscent of his weak finish in the same match last season.

The Portuguese tactician will be desperate for attacking additions to salvage the season, especially as Joshua Zirkzee looks to be leaving while Marcus Rashford also wants out.

He had asked for Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres but due to his promise to his former suitors, a January approach seems to be off the cards.

However, The Daily Star have now claimed a summer deal also looks in danger due to Bayern Munich’s entry into the race with the Bavarian giants willing to pay his release clause in full.

Amorim must have thought a reunion was on the cards but the Swede is not too sure about joining United given their current predicament while Bayern will provide him the chance to keep playing in the Champions League.

“Bayern Munich want to hijack Manchester United’s bid to sign Swedish sensation Viktor Gyokeres. It’s understood the German giants have started talks with the forward’s representatives. Gyokeres has a buy-out clause in his Sporting contract worth £80m – and Bayern bosses are willing to meet it.

            Gyokeres Bayern-bound?

“Amorim thought he might be in pole position to sign Gyokeres, due to the close relationship the pair have from working together in Lisbon.

“But the 26-year-old has reservations about joining United, due to the size of the job his former boss is facing at Old Trafford. While Gyokeres would also prefer to join a club operating in the Champions League next season. This puts Bayern in pole position.”

The 26-year-old has 30 goals in 28 games, more than all three of United’s strikers combined, while also registering six assists. He would have been the ideal signing given his relationship with Amorim but the Red Devils could now be forced to look elsewhere.

Links with Victor Osimhen are on the rise as a result and it will be interesting to see if INEOS can somehow pull off this coup in the winter window.

Kieran McKenna set to turn to former United warhorse in bid to escape relegation nightmare – report

Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town are reportedly eyeing a move for former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic.

Matic left United during the summer of 2022, after five years at Old Trafford, and ended up joining AS Roma as a free agent,- where he stayed for one season.

He then moved on to Rennes last summer but his time there was short-lived. Matic sealed a switch to fellow Ligue club Lyon in January 2024, where he has been to date.

The Serbian put pen to paper on a contract until the summer of 2026. This season, Matic has made 13 top-flight appearances for Lyon.

According to Foot Mercato, the ex-United man could be headed back to the Premier League, with Ipswich an interested party in his services.

The Tractor Boys are believed to be weighing up a move for Matic as they seek to beat the drop in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.

Ipswich are in their first season in the Premier League after a 22-year absence and currently sit in 18th place in the table having gained 16 points.

Foot Mercato state that McKenna’s side admire Matic’s previous experience in England’s top-flight.

They’re not the only club pursuing the 36-year-old. His former Chelsea teammate, Cesc Fabregas, also wants him at Como.

However, they’re set to be disappointed because at the moment, Matic “has no intention” of leaving Lyon. He’s happy there and is “looking to the future with confidence.”

Matic made 183 appearances for United since signing for them from Chelsea in 2017.

Ruben Amorim and his players are back in action on Thursday when they face Arsenal away in the third round of the FA Cup.

Liverpool should already be excited to target ‘soddy, lazy’ Trent down Real Madrid’s right

Liverpool fans have already seen enough of Trent Alexander-Arnold and his ‘lifelong dedication to shoddy, lazy defending’. They want to face him and Real.

                Send your thoughts to theeditor@football365.com.

                Take the money and run
If Trent wants to go in January
, send him packing and take whatever you can get for him. The idea of making that defender one of the highest paid players in the world is ridiculous.
Joe lfc (don’t usually overreact but that was a horrendous individual performance)

                Trent can go.

And when he’s gone, if we continue to come upon his new club in the late stages of European competition as we too often seem to, I’ll love all them vectors down his flank and netting ours on account of his lifelong dedication to shoddy, lazy defending.  The lad is a sieve.  Except that he’s no longer a lad; this is a full-grown man in his prime as a player, yet he can’t defend a training dummy or your nan.

Too much was made of the infinitesimal, nano-level improvement to his defending coaxed out by Slot, and even that’s been undone with his head in the clouds now he’s Madrid-bound.  He was always missing something intrinsically as a defender, something basic and rudimentary.

Look, at the outset Alexander-Arnold’s departure will sting, as will the optics.  How could it not.   But we won’t miss him in the long-term.  His Scouse loyalties and childhood club come secondary to his chase for individual plaudits and personal glories, that much is already clear.  That which becomes clearer only with time is our defensive uptick when he’s gone, when a proper fullback has taken his place.  I reckon it’s eventually addition by subtraction once we see him wearing white.
Eric, Los Angeles  CA  (The draw was deserved, we were well below it tonight.)

Before the game I would’ve been disappointed with a draw. After, I feel like a lucky mofo.  We would’ve been better with 10 men and Trent off the pitch.

                Where’s your head at?
Aidan, Lfc (love the guy but you can’t down tools against Utd – and apologies if there’s something non-transfer related going on)

                Ring ring, ring ring

                “Hello?”

                “Hi, is that Real Madrid?”

                “Yes?”

“This is Liverpool, we were just wondering if that January bid for Trent still stands?…hello?…hello?…are you there? hmm, I think they’ve hung up.”

                The Slot machine broke down
On chances you’d say Man utd should’ve won but once we were 2-1 up we should’ve seen the game out. Reasonable on that basis to say a draw is a loss for both clubs today.

Trent really stunk the place out. Maybe his head was in Madrid, and who can blame him on a day it’s 0 degrees, raining and windy in the North West. He might’ve just had one of those days. I think if slot had replaced him earlier, maybe as soon as it goes 2-1 maybe we see the game out but who knows. Trent failed to win a single duel today which is pretty dire for any defender.

But that leads to the other surprise today; Slot, for the first time, made the team worse with his substitutes. Nunez was so poor coming on when Gakpo was looking outstanding. We were in the ascendency and replacing our chief mischief maker up top seemed silly. If you were gonna take Gakpo off, as Slot does seem to do every week, maybe Endo was the right choice to close out the game.

I think Man Utd fans will be cheered by the result but it reminded me a lot of our lot in the 90s. Turn up for a good fight whenever Man z Utd came about but nowhere near the prizes come end of the season. If they beat Brighton and Fulham next up in the league I’ll be more concerned that Amorim is turning them around. This game was proof of why form goes out the window in these sorts of games.

A poor result, Gravenberch, Trent, Jones and Mo all looked poor today. We desperately missed Szoboslai’s combative presence in midfield today. Jones is great for games where we dominate the ball and territory but need to find a way through whereas Dominic is someone who helps keep rhythm and control in the side. We missed both today.

6 points clear, game in hand. Would’ve bitten your hand off for this in August so no complaints and trust in Slot to be annoyed the standards slipped today.
                Minty, LFC

                Give United some credit
A leaky roof. Players playing poorly (or being exposed). Players clearly looking to leave. Funny that this describes Liverpool not United for a change.

Throw in the hilariously and not-even-subtle biased refereeing by United-hating Michael Oliver, I think we can all be pleased with the day’s events.

Yeah it was probably a penalty, although chest to hand makes it less nailed on. If it wasn’t in front of the kop and with this Muppet in charge, maybe not. Shame these referees and VAR can’t manage any consistency from match to match (thinking on the Spurs match). Let alone the seeming Van Dijk handball in this very match, and the red card foul that Nunez got just a yellow for. But this is Anfield and Liverpool Football Club We’re Talking About.

And yeah, it’s just a point that could easily have been 0 or 3, which means very little in the grand scheme of things to either, but it showed a degree of determination for us that has been far too rarely seen and now having shown it, have no excuse not to maintain.

By the way, let’s stop this silliness when we (and by “we” I mean the media) describe these matches as the stronger side playing badly or not turning up if they don’t win, rather than the weaker side playing well or identifying ways to stop danger men and space. We hear this time and again, not just in United matches. Give some credit where it’s due.

Final thought: Trent should probably get on and sign da ting, since if he’s getting exposed by a makeshift lwb, he’ll be lucky to get a good offer from Real. Let’s hope they’re too busy to watch that match on catch-up.

                Oliver!
Well done to Michael Oliver and his inept colleagues for robbing us of points yet again, and gifting Liverpool a point. He’ll sleep well tonight.

Amazing consistency from the PGMOL yet again. No handball in build up to the Newcastle first goal because it was too close and accidental, penalty here because proximity doesn’t matter to Michael Oliver. You can put your house on the fact that he wouldn’t have awarded a penalty in the other box had VVD done the same.

Decent performance, arguably deserved 3 points, but foiled by Michael Oliver again. Keep saying it, shouldn’t be allowed to referee our games as he clearly has a chip on his shoulder. Regardless, let’s use this performance and kick on.

                Arteta nonsense
I’ve had to say this so many times at this point but I am completely happy with Arteta and the desire from rival fans to sack him is hilarious to me.

Every single time people mention the money we’ve spent, they seem to ignore that Chelsea and United have outspent us in that period and Spurs have spent near enough the same. City already have their world class team established and fair play to Liverpool they did better than what they should. If you just say Arsenal have spent 700m or whatever it is with no context, it obviously looks bad. If other big teams are spending the same amount and doing worse than us then why don’t you mention that. The fact that those teams have kept sacking their managers too just proves that it’s not as simple as throwing cash as players.

“Arteta gets his arse beaten each time he goes near Anfield”. Except we haven’t lost there since 2021. See this is why I just ignore bullsh*t opinions like this. If you have to exaggerate your mail then you just come across as bias or uneducated. We don’t have a great record at Anfield but we’ve been pretty good against Liverpool and City in general in recent years. We rarely ever get our “arse beaten”. I think the last hammering we got in any context was the 4-0 vs Liverpool in 2021, which is probably etched in your mind. I’ve looked back over Artetas other games at Anfield and we’ve not been hammered.

The rest of your piece is just nonsense too. I swear this always happens when players from smaller teams do well. Everyone wanting Arsenal to sign people like Cunha because he’s flavour of the month. Havertz quite literally outscored him last season after spending half a season in midfield. Isak would be f**king great, cheers captain obvious. 150m is no bother to spend, he will definitely play every minute and is not injury prone whatsoever. Likewise Mitoma, Martinelli literally scored more last season than Mitoma has in the last two combined. Mitoma is also 28 in May.

It’s so easy to talk all this nonsense when a result doesn’t go out way. Why didn’t you write in when we best Brentford?
                Dion

This is why it’s important to wait until the fixtures finish before talking s**** Stewie. Liverpool at home with give or take their full first XI couldn’t beat THIS United but our away game at Brighton with half our first XI injured, ill or having to start on the bench is loser mentality. Liverpool even made United look good.

I imagine this season is what it felt like for Liverpool last season. A great team thwarted by injuries, bad luck, cards and it not quite clicking. The league is probably over but we will keep going you never know. If they can lose to United they can lose to anyone. The fixture list is definetly kinder for us but Liverpool don’t look like letting it slip.

I also would really like to move on from “slot spent nothing” argument. He inherited one of the best teams we have ever seen which had been coached for years by one of the best managers the world has ever had. Slot has been brilliant, he’s clearly an amazing tactical coach as well, but let’s not pretend he’s rocked up to Crystal Palace and performed miracles

                Bad head
Arsenal deserve to be torn down for their performance against Brighton, but can the great collective minds at F365 find any other examples of a foul committed with the head?

                Yours doubtfully,
                John the Notts/Manc Gooner

                Bit Rich
I struggle to believe that Rich actually believes what he’s writing, but just in case he does, in response to his question about favourable decisions for Arsenal, I would suggest every single one of their goals from corners being given in spite of clear and consistent fouls on goalkeepers…
                Dom

I just had to respond to this unbelievably massive plonker called Rich (Arsenal fan of course). Nobody is gaslighting you dude. You’re gaslighting yourself. Deluded. Probably suffering from other things but I’ll hold off on the name calling.

‘The ball clearly bounces of Saliba’s head before any clash of heads’

This is what you wrote. I’m kinda lost for words because my god what an incredibly dumb statement but I’ll try. Now you maybe be certified blind, I dunno, but no the ball did absolutely NOT touch Saliba’s head. Maybe you got mixed up watching the highlights and saw him head a corner away in a separate action and used that as his defence but  do you know what did touch Saliba’s head for the penalty to be given? That’s right. Pedro’s head. Just because we may have never seen the like in the premier league doesn’t mean it’s not a penalty. Just most top defenders don’t go headbutting other players in the box. We’ve seen plenty of fouls given OUTSIDE the box for similar incidents so if it’s a foul outside it’s a foul inside. I rest my case.

Oh and you think only Arsenal get hard done by? Don’t get decisions their way? Odegaard didn’t handle that ball against Liverpool last year right? Stop being a bellend and STFU!!
                Alex

Rich, AFC, excellent points well made. I don’t fully buy into the ‘agenda against Arsenal’ thing because I don’t pay enough attention to other teams grievances. However, it’s absolute fact that Arsenal got royally and inconsistently screwed over by the ridiculous delaying restart rule and no one else has.

And on the penalty, at first I thought ‘thats an odd one, but maybe its right’… But the replays clearly show Saliba got the ball before the man and in any other situation that’s not given as a penalty. What is the point of VAR debating marginal offsides for 5 minutes yet not spend more than 5 seconds on that.

Finally, can you stop publishing Stewie Griffins mails, he’s clearly just a troll.
                Diaby, AFC, London

                Arsenal penalty fume
You regularly see fouls, penalties and red cards given when a player follows through on a tackle. Even if there is (slight) contact with the ball, the follow through on the opponent is heavy and the player making the challenge is deemed as out of control, thus causing damage to opponent.

This is why it was a blatant penalty all day long. It’s exactly the same situation, just in the air.

Arsenal fans are such crybabies, its gone beyond the point of even being funny now to just being boring. How can one fan base be so deluded and victimised?

United “actively exploring” January loan deal for lethal “high-profile” striker – David Ornstein

Manchester United are weighing up a January loan move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani, reports the reliable David Ornstein.

For yet another season, the striker position has proven to be a problematic one for United. Rasmus Hojlund and summer signing Joshua Zirkzee have struggled to impress, with neither player managing to claim a guaranteed starting berth.

Hojlund and Zirkzee have managed just five Premier League goals between them so far this term.

It’s evident that the duo cannot be consistently relied upon to deliver goals for United, which is why the Red Devils remain linked with several prolific forwards, including Viktor Gyökeres, Dušan Vlahović, Victor Osimhen, and, of course, Kolo Muani.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Ruben Amorim wants United to sign Kolo Muani this month, ahead of other interested parties.

The Frenchman is not in Luis Enrique’s long-term plans at PSG and seems to be on his way out of the club.

Now, David Ornstein of The Athletic has confirmed that United are indeed among a number of teams pursuing a swoop for Kolo Muani.

According to Ornstein, “Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are actively exploring a January deal to sign Randal Kolo Muani on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.”

“The Premier League clubs — alongside Serie A counterparts Juventus — have expressed an interest in recruiting the 26-year-old forward. As things stand they are emerging as the leading contenders for one of most high-profile players likely to move during the winter transfer window.”

“PSG and Kolo Muani’s representatives have been made aware of the admiration, with the France international regarded by his suitors among the best versatile attackers currently on the market.”

United looked at Kolo Muani in the summer of 2023 but Erik ten Hag elected to sanction a move for Hojlund instead.

Kolo Muani ended up joining PSG from Eintracht Frankfurt for a whooping €90million. He notched nine goals and six assists across all competitions in his first season in the French capital.

So far this campaign, the 26-year-old has managed just two goals and one assist in 14 appearances.

“He wants to….”: United’s pursuit of Victor Osimhen receives a shocking twist – report

Victor Osimhen has turned down the prospect of a move to Manchester United in the January transfer window with the Nigerian striker content to remain on loan at Galatasaray until the end of the season, according to a blockbuster report from Italy.

La Repubblica, an Italian national newspaper, contend the Red Devils have made an approach to Napoli – Osimhen’s parent club – over signing the 25-year-old this month with Old Trafford officials keen to buttress Ruben Amorim’s squad with a much-needed goal scorer.

However, the report reveals (as relayed by Football Italia), Osimhen has rejected United’s advances with the Nigerian international choosing to remain in Turkey, where he has helped his adopted side to a commanding position at the top of the Süper Lig table.

Osimhen has scored 13 goals in 16 appearances for Galatasaray since leaving Naples on a loan in September, while providing a further four assists.

By comparison, the forward line at Old Trafford, comprising Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho, Mason Mount and Antony, has scored just 15 times between them.

Only four teams have scored fewer times than United in the Premier League, with the club languished in a dismal 13th place in the table.

It’s little surprise, therefore, that Osimhen had emerged as a primary target in the January window, given his unique combination of guaranteed goals and apparent availability in the transfer market, with the 25-year-old’s loan deal including a break clause from Galatasaray should a suitable offer arrive in Naples.

However, this was reliant upon Osimhen agreeing to such a deal; and the striker’s apparent refusal to entertain United’s approach has “infuriated” Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The Italian businessman reportedly sees it as “yet another example of Osimhen trying to make his situation difficult for Napoli” and is enraged by the 25-year-old’s decision.

The report reveals, “Osimhen replied to director Giovanni Manna that he wanted to remain with Galatasaray until the end of the season.”

The Nigerian international is believed to have an €81 million release clause in the January. However, this will drop to €75 million come the summer, underscoring why executives in Naples would be keen for a move to be agreed this month.

United appear increasingly unlikely to be able to agree a deal for Osimhen when it was a remote possibility to begin with, but the prospect of a reduced price for a proven goal scorer should ensure Old Trafford officials maintain a keen eye on developments in Turkey and Italy as the summer window approaches.
