Euro giants raising €6.5m to fund incredible Marcus Rashford move this month – report

Euro giants raising €6.5m to fund incredible Marcus Rashford move this month – report

Barcelona could land Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford on loan if they manage to balance their books this month, as per reports.

United are actively looking to part ways with the Englishman. The academy product had a promising start to the Ruben Amorim era, having scored a goal in the new gaffer’s first game in charge of the Red Devils at Ipswich Town.

However, Amorim dropped him from his matchday squad in mid-December due to concerns over his work ethic. Since then, the 27-year-old has not played a single minute for United.

The situation has seemingly become untenable but Ineos are struggling to offload Rashford due to his lucrative contract, which runs until June 2028.

The England international, who has seven goals to his name across all competitions this season, has attracted interest from AC Milan, Barcelona, Juventus among other clubs but a breakthrough isn’t in sight yet.

Now, SPORT (via Sport Witness), have suggested Barca could make progress in their pursuit if they raise funds.

The La Liga giants see Rashford as one of the “great opportunities” this month but before they can push for his signature, they need to free up salary space.

The aim is supposedly to find €6.5million, which would allow the Blaugrana to loan the United star for the remainder of the season.

The Premier League side are understood to be happy to let Rashford depart but they are aware his salary, believed to be around €10m net, will prove to be an obstacle.

Rashford is willing to give up €2m to sign for the Catalan outfit but they would still need to release €6.5m from their current “salary spend” to secure his services.

As per the 1:1 rule, Barca can make a signing as long as they offload one of their players first. At this point, Ronald Araujo appears most likely to depart and open doors for Rashford to arrive at Camp Nou.

United, meanwhile, are plotting a move for Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo and may rely on sales to hand Amorim a new striker.

Manchester United’s Premier League 2 clash with rivals called off after pitch inspection

Manchester United’s Premier League 2 clash with rivals called off after pitch inspection

Manchester United U21s were scheduled to return to action after the winter break on Friday but their match has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

Travis Binnion’s side were set to play their first match of the year, an away Premier League 2 tie against Leeds U21s.

The match that was to take place at York City’s LNER Community Stadium has been called off following a pitch inspection.

A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.

United currently sit 6th in the Premier League 2 table after winning their last two league fixtures.

With 10 matches remaining, United sit firmly within the top 16 positions which will see them advance to the play-offs and in the top 12 which earns them an invite to the Premier League International Cup.

In other news, the U21s will see a change of venue later this month when they take on FC Nordsjælland at Moss Lane.

Due to fixture congestion at their usual home of Leigh Sports Village, the U21s will play their final Premier League International Cup match of the season at Altrincham’s stadium.

The match will provide a good international test despite United already being eliminated from the competition.

The postponement means the next game for the U21s will come next week when they will host Aston Villa on Saturday, January 18th.

The U18s meanwhile take on Preston North End next Friday in the FA Youth Cup at Leigh Sports Village.

If Adam Lawrence’s team advance, they will meet the winner of Chelsea and Merstham.

This weekend, United have sent two groups of U19s to Germany to take part in the indoor tournaments, Mercedes Benz Junior Cup and REWE Junior Cup.

Rashford transfer: AC Milan take €25m stride towards Man Utd deal as ‘main man’ sales pitch revealed

AC Milan have taken a significant step towards beating rival suitors to the loan signing of Marcus Rashford this month.

Rashford wants out of Old Trafford having announced his desire for a “new challenge” last month, but options are thin on the ground thanks to his £300,000 per week wages and his lack of interest in a move to Saudi Arabia or Turkey.

Talks have reportedly been held with Juventus and Borussia Dortmund, while negotiations with Milan are supposedly more advanced.

A report on Thursday revealed that West Ham have also been asked to be ‘kept informed of Rashford’s situation’ after Graham Potter replaced Julen Lopetegui as manager ‘but know he is more likely to join a top European side’.

A sticking point for Milan could be their unwillingness to stump up more than half of Rashford’s £300,000-a-week wages, though that will be a problem no matter which club approaches United this month, with the Red Devils likely having to accept they will need to subsidise the move.

Anyway, reports in Italy claim Milan have pushed for the exit of Noah Okafor – who’s heading to RB Leipzig on loan – ‘to allow them to go all in for Rashford’.

On Okafor’s loan, Fabrizio Romano wrote on X:  ‘EXCL: RB Leipzig and AC Milan have agreed on loan deal for Noah Okafor plus buy option clause worth over €25m.

‘Loan with salary covered by Leipzig, buy option clause not mandatory — around €25/28m based on several factors. Travel and medical scheduled tomorrow.’

In allowing the left winger to leave they’re opening up a spot in the squad for the Rashford, who – according to Sky Sports – has been told by the Milan bosses that ‘you’re going to be the main man and we’ll build the team around you’.

Former Roma star Antonio Cassano says he “goes crazy for” Rashford, who would be a “fantastic” signing for any Serie A club.

“We are talking about a fantastic player; I go crazy for him,” he said, as per TuttoMercatoWeb.

“One and a half years ago, not three or five, he had finished the season with 28 goals playing as an attacking winger.

“But something has broken at Manchester United, first with Ten Hag and especially with Amorim.

“The problem is that he earns €12m per season. Who can afford him in Italy? Nobody can.

“He would be fantastic for Milan and Juventus, but I don’t think he can join our league.”

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen with the Foxes sweating on their finances, according to reports.

The Midlands side are feeling the heat from the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) and may be forced to sell, with the Danish shotstopper amongst the most likely to leave.

The Daily Express report that Hermansen is “attracting attention from clubs higher up the division”, and United are “among the teams said to be monitoring his situation.”

The report claims that Tony Coton, United’s chief goalkeeping scout, watched Hermansen at Leicester’s recent 2-2 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion. That point, earned in early December, is the last one the Foxes picked up as they solidify their place in the relegation zone.

Hermansen moved to the King Power Stadium from Danish side Brondby in July 2023, and slotted straight into the starting lineup.

He is currently sidelined with a groin injury, but regardless of this any move for the player would likely materialise in the summer, when Leicester will know how badly they’ve been affected by PSR – and what league they’ll be playing in.

Former Red Devils interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge of the Foxes in November last year, but faces a tough task to avoid relegation.

The Foxes are currently 19th in the Premier League, and with just one point from their last six matches face a battle for survival between now and the end of May.

While United definitely have higher priorities in other positions – notably left-back and centre-forward – it is not a huge surprise to see the club exploring other options in goal.

Ruben Amorim has stuck with Erik ten Hag signing Andre Onana as his main ‘keeper, using Turkish international Altay Bayindir as his backup.

Onana has largely been solid between the sticks, and particularly impressive with the ball at his feet. However, he has shown some signs of a worrying relapse towards the catastrophic errors which cost United crucial points last season.

Although only having limited opportunities in cup competitions, Bayindir hasn’t convinced when he has played and doesn’t look to have much of a future at the club.

Should Hermansen arrive at Old Trafford, he would doubtless expect to at least challenge for a place in the starting XI.

Former United fan favourite to undergo medical ahead of January move, will reunite with two ex-Red Devils – report

Former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is reportedly all set to reunite with several ex-Red Devils in Argentina.

Herrera established himself as a fan favourite at Old Trafford after moving to Manchester in 2014 under Louis van Gaal.

Upon the expiration of his contract in 2019, the Spaniard moved to Paris Saint-Germain, much to the disappointment of the United faithful.

The midfielder, known for his immense work ethic, then returned to Athletic Bilbao in 2022. Now, reports in Argentina are claiming he is set for a new adventure with some familiar faces.

According to TyC Sports (via Sport Witness), the 35-year-old is close to joining Boca Juniors. He is expected to travel in the next few hours to undergo a medical. It is added that Herrera’s transfer is “now a fact”.

In La Boca, the former United star will reunite with Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero. Both Argentinians were also signed by Van Gaal and shared the dressing room with Herrera in Manchester.

Herrera would also be welcomed by Edinson Cavani, who played for the Mancunians between 2020 to 2022.

Herrera is departing Bilbao after enduring a tough season under Ernesto Valverde, who has handed him just two starts in La Liga so far this term.

After leaving United, the Spanish star has struggled to consistently deliver in the middle of the park.

His well-wishers will hope a move to Argentina and an opportunity to play alongside his former United teammates would help him enjoy a relatively more promising spell before he ultimately hangs up his boots.

Meanwhile, United are edging closer to losing another fan favourite midfielder, Casemiro. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Brazilian “is packing his bags” and is set to join Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

At Al-Nassr, Casemiro will be reunited with Cristiano Ronaldo, who shared the pitch with the midfielder at both Real Madrid and United.

Talks set to begin for World Cup finalist as United’s January striker chase becomes “more concrete” – report

Manchester United are reportedly advancing in their chase of Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani.

PSG signed Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth around €90m. However, he has fallen out of favour under manager Luis Enrique and has been made available for transfer this month, with a number of clubs, including United, exploring a transfer.

David Ornstein recently revealed that United are “actively exploring” a loan move for the France international.

United’s desire to add a new striker to the ranks is no secret, with both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling to regularly come up with the goods in front of goal.

The Red Devils’ need for attacking reinforcements could become even more urgent in the event that Marcus Rashford leaves this month.

Now, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has given an update on United’s pursuit of the 26-year-old.

According to Plettenberg, United are stepping up their bid to land him ahead of other interested parties and talks with PSG are expected to start soon.

“Manchester United’s efforts to sign Randal Kolo Muani are becoming more concrete!”

“The Red Devils are now determined to do everything possible to secure his transfer in the winter. Recently, there have been very specific talks with his management, and direct negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain are expected to follow.”

“United are considering a loan deal, ideally with an option to buy.”

Man Utd transfers: Surprise club ‘offer escape route’ for Rashford after Barcelona ‘meeting’

AS Monaco are reportedly ready to ‘offer an escape route’ for ostracised Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, who has been linked with Barcelona.

The French side have emerged as a surprise option for Rashford, who is available this month.

A loan departure is the most likely outcome given his £325,000-a-week salary and reported £50million asking price.

Napoli, AC Milan, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are among the clubs interested in signing the 27-year-old, while Arsenal have also been linked having made a ‘phone call’. He has also rejected advances from Saudi Arabia.

Reports in Spain claimed on Friday that Rashford’s representatives had an ‘informal meeting’ with Barcelona director Deco, with the Catalan giants now a ‘serious option’ this month.

The England winger quickly fell out of favour under new Man United head coach Ruben Amorim and has not played since the Europa League win at Viktoria Plzen on December 12, three days before he and Alejandro Garnacho were omitted from the squad to face Manchester City in the Premier League.

His wages are a big stumbling block for interested clubs, however, The Telegraph report that Monaco have offered him ‘an escape route’.

The report from Mike McGrath says the Ligue Un club have added Rashford to their ‘shortlist’ and can offer a ‘realistic package’ to sign him from Man United.

Monaco are currently third in the French top flight and in the Champions League play-off places and believe the signing of Rashford ‘can help them challenge for silverware this season’.

Adi Hutter’s side are close to signing ex-Arsenal striker Mika Biereth from Sturm Graz and are also in the market for a wide forward, with Rashford’s availability appealing to them.

It is noted that Rashford’s brother, Dwaine Maynard, has been in Italy this week to have ‘exploratory talks’ with Juventus and Milan but the winger’s wages are a ‘potential stumbling block’ and there is ‘uncertainty over how much of Rashford’s wages Milan could cover’.

Meanwhile, Juventus are ‘more interested’ in Red Devils team-mate Joshua Zirkzee, who thrived under head coach Thiago Motta at Bologna last season.

The report adds that United could sanction a ‘reluctant’ Kobbie Mainoo sale amid ‘the financial pressures facing the club’.

Mainoo and United have hit a wall in contract negotiations so the club are deciding to ‘keep an open mind over sales’, including their academy graduate.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup tie at Arsenal, Amorim told a press conference: “Our idea is always to keep the best players and the players that we build for this club but we know the position the club is in at the moment.

“We will see. But I’m very happy. I really like the players, especially the guys from the academy.

“My players are always my favourites. I really love my players, I want to keep my players, especially the talented ones.

“It’s a special moment in this club, it’s a hard moment, I am really happy with Kobbie, he is improving and also with Garna [Alejandro Garnacho].”

United plotting move for PL forward loved by Amorim, ready to “triple his wages” – report

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is a “huge admirer” of Bryan Mbeumo, as per reports.

Amorim has been forced to frequently experiment with his attack due to the misfiring United forwards.

Marcus Rashford got the nod to lead the line in the Portuguese head coach’s first game in charge of United at Ipswich Town. The Englishman has seemingly fallen out of favour, having not featured for his boyhood club since mid-December.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have also been handed many opportunities to show their talents as the side’s striker but both have been underwhelming, to say the least.

Amid his side’s goalscoring woes, Amorim’s attention has been caught by Mbeumo, who is enjoying a prolific season at Brentford.

According to the Daily Star, Amorim believes the 25-year-old would “fit into his long term plans” at United.

Accordingly, he is keeping “close tabs” on the Cameroon international, who has an impressive 13 goals to his name in 20 Premier League appearances this season.

In particular, Amorim is believed to be a fan of the Brentford man’s versatility as well as his work ethic. He has played as a striker, number 10, right-winger, and right-sided midfielder under Thomas Frank this campaign.

It is sensationally added that United are “plotting a shock raid” for the talented forward and will consider making a £40million bid in an attempt to find an agreement with Brentford.

Further, it is thought that Mbeumo would find the idea of moving to Old Trafford appealing and could also “triple his wages to £150,000-a-week.”

However, Frank has insisted that his star player is going nowhere in January. Accordingly, United are ready to wait until the end of the season to test Brentford’s resolve.

Their pursuit may rely on sales due to financial fair play concerns. Alejandro Garnacho, Rashford, and Zirkzee have all been linked with moves away.

Man Utd transfer: Huge boost as Gyokeres ‘agreement’ reached amid Bayern ‘hijack’ reports

Manchester United have been handed a huge boost in their bid to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting as a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ has been reached over his transfer.

Gyokeres has been on fire ever since joining the Portuguese side from Coventry in the summer of 2023, scoring an incredible 74 goals in 79 appearances to help Sporting to the league title last season and to the top of the table this term.

Most of those goals came under Ruben Amorim before he moved to Manchester United in November, and reports suggest the new Red Devils head coach is very keen on bringing Gyokeres to Old Trafford as soon as possible.

The transfer may have to wait until the summer (much to Amorim’s disappointment) as United are currently operating a buy-to-sell policy, and although Marcus Rashford looks set to leave the club that will only be on loan, and they aren’t blessed with a too many transferable assets besides; Kobbie Mainoo’s ‘untouchable’ status being rescinded testament to that.

Sporting are also unlikely to allow Gyokeres to leave in the middle of the season, particularly after Amorim gave them his word that he wouldn’t be poaching players for United in January.

But if and when the two sides are negotiating the deal, the Red Devils won’t have to stump up quite so much money for Gyokeres according to Portuguese outlet Record.

It’s claimed ‘Sporting have a gentleman’s agreement to allow the striker to leave the club for as little as between £58.6m and £62.8m’.

A similar agreement has bene hinted at in the past, but it wasn’t clear how far under this £83m release clause he would be allowed to move for.

United will face competition for Gyokeres though, with reports of a Bayern ‘hijack’ on the cards, while Barcelona are also said to be keeping tabs on the 26-year-old.

Should he move to Old Trafford he would be competing with Rasmus Hojlund for a place in the first XI and we reckon we know which player former United defender Paul Parker thinks would win that battle.

Hojlund has scored just 23 goals in 66 appearances for United since his £64m move from Atalanta, and Parker is in no doubt as to whether criticism of his performances has been justified.

He told bettingexpert.com: “I definitely think it’s justified 100% (criticism from the media). He hasn’t been good enough, and he’s not the kind of player United need. He constantly falls over, and that’s something people are talking about.”

“The fans have been patient with him, but the media isn’t. I can’t see him improving enough, and it doesn’t look like he’s listening to Amorim.”

“He can only make one run, and it’s always the same. He doesn’t finish properly. We saw again against Alisson, he didn’t even challenge him. It was very poor.”

“I liked him when he arrived, but for me, it’s gone in the wrong direction. Completely. Now, I really doubt he will ever be the striker we need and can rely on.

“Højlund lacks that presence, which someone like Nunez has. But Nunez, for all the right reasons, is dangerous. He can cost you games with his mistakes, but for some reason, the media never mentions it.”
