United pursuing deal for lightning-quick attacker taking the Austrian top-flight by storm – Fabrizio Romano

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United are interested in RB Salzburg attacker Dorgeles Nene.

United are aiming to bolster the squad in an effort to ensure Ruben Amorim has the tools necessary to make the club competitive once again.

It’s well-known that the Red Devils are on the hunt for attacking reinforcements, with the striker position especially needing strengthening. United have also been linked to a number of wide attacking players who fit into Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation.

According to Romano, United now have their sights trained on Nene.

The Italian journalist wrote on X, “Manchester United add Nene Dorgeles from RB Salzburg to their list of options for January/summer.”

“Malian winger being monitored by the club and initial talks to be informed on the price/package took place.”

“Man United keep working on that before making decision.”

The lightning-quick Nene joined Salzburg in 2021, as part of a developmental partnership with FC Liefering. In the 2021/2022 campaign, he went out on loan and spent six months at SV Reid.

He was loaned out again in the 2023/24 campaign to Belgian outfit KVC Westerlo, where he really came into his own at senior level. At Waterlo, Nene plundered an impressive 13 goals and four assists in 36 appearances.

The 22-year-old is now an established squad member at Salzburg and in September last year, he put pen to paper on a new contract running until the summer of 2028.

Salzburg are therefore are in a very strong negotiating position if United come knocking on their door for Nene.

Nene – who can play on both wings – has so far this term, played 14 matches in the Austrian Bundesliga. He has notched four goals and five assists in that period.

Meanwhile, Amorim and his players return to action on Thursday when they take on Southampton at Old Trafford. Kick-off is at 20:00 GMT.

“The script was already there”: Fernandes says United teammate was destined to be the hero of the hour in win vs. Arsenal

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has hailed teammate Joshua Zirkzee after the striker netted the decisive penalty in their FA Cup third-round clash against Arsenal.

Two weeks ago, Zirkzee was booed off the pitch by his own fans as he came off in the 33rd minute of the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.

However, he showed great resilience when he came on vs. Arsenal at the Emirates, eventually securing United’s place in the next stage of the competition by dispatching the fifth and final successful penalty kick.

Fernandes spoke to Sky Sports and revealed how particularly pleased he was with Zirkzee. According to Fernandes, it was written in the stars that Zirkzee would be the hero of the hour.

The United skipper said, “The script was already there for a long time. You know, when when you are a good person, when you do the right things, you can have bad moments but at the end everything will come through strong.”

“It was a decision by the staff to pick the five players to have the penalty and they put Josh last. And the only thing it came into my mind was to tell the players that the script is done. So everything is done since that moment against Newcastle that prepared us to, in this moment, give Josh his moment and his credit and his flowers.”

“We can talk about whatever people want to talk about, like ‘penalties, it’s easy.’ It’s how we got to penalties. Altay saved the penalty [in normal time] from Martin Odegaard who hadn’t missed one in his professional career yet. And then Josh, in a moment of pressure with everything he’s been through in his mind, steps up and and gives us the win.”

Fernandes added, “I like everyone to be happy. I want everyone to feel a part, to feel involved. When you are in a good moment, in a high moment, I rather give that to other players – not because I don’t want to have that moment, because obviously every player wants to have his credit, his flowers and his moments of joy – but this is just the way I live my life.”

“I do really think for a team to be successful, it needs everyone to be at the same level of happiness. Even knowing that some players will play less than others, you need to find a way to push them in certain moments for them to feel that they are as much important as I am.”

Fernandes previously called for United to be more consistent rather than only turn up against perceived bigger opponents like Manchester City, Liverpool or Arsenal.

In his sit-down with Sky Sports, he emphasised this yet again, as he warned against complacency when they come up against slightly weaker opponents.

“We can’t look at names, we can’t look at badges, we can’t look at the table, whoever is in front or below us. We just need to look at ourselves and understand that we play for a massive club and we have to set a standard for ourselves. That this is where we want to be minimum and where we have to go still to get the best out of everyone.”

The Portugal international admitted that while it has been good to have a little bit more time on the training ground, the secret behind the team’s resurgence has mostly been due to an improvement in mentality – something Ruben Amorim has talked about on multiple occasions.

“It helps always when you have time to train and to prepare the games a little bit more. It’s important but I think in these two games was more about – and the manager said this to us – it’s more about the passion, the desire, everything you put into the game in terms of how much you want to win the game.”

“I think everyone is really aware of what he wants and he demands from us position-wise, tactical-wise and everything. I think we are now getting into the level that he wants effort-wise, with running and passion and desire to win games. So I think we still have a lot to improve for me in both aspects. But we will do it. And I’m pretty sure that we are in a good path to do it.”

The club captain further stated, “But now we have a massive game where everyone could look at in a different way and probably look at it from the outside and say, ‘United now is in a good moment. They’ve got Southampton at home. They will beat them for sure, but we can’t think that way because Southampton is fighting for their lives.”

“They want to stay in the Premier League and they really need points. But we need to turn this around and look at ourselves and say that we also need really, really, really need points more than them. We have to think that ‘we need points more than them’ and it has to be our aim for every game that we go through. The opponent needs it so much, but we need it more than them.”

Fernandes refused to acknowledge that Amorim’s insistence that they’re in a relegation battle sent shockwaves across the squad.

The playmaker however accepted that the manager’s focus on the psychological part of the game has been vital.

“Probably in some games where you don’t play against the big teams and you think you don’t need to be as much aware and probably you mentally disconnect for five seconds. And in the Premier League, five seconds is too much against any team. And Southampton is one of that games where I don’t want any of us for five seconds to disconnect because they have good players, they have qualities.”

“They could have got more points than they have in the table. I’m not saying that they are a big team. That they are a team that is better than us and we should not win the game. We have to win the game. We should be concerned about every moment and every second through the game because if we do that, and then with everything; the way we prepare the game, tactical-wise and technical-wise, if we do what we’ve been doing, I’m pretty sure that we’ll win the game.”

Fernandes noted that United must improve on scoring goals, which is possible considering the quality of players within the ranks.

He further remarked that even when things were tough at Old Trafford amidst their struggles on the pitch, he and his teammates never lost the belief that they could turn things around and get back on track.

Up next for the Red Devils is a home meeting with Southampton on Thursday. Kick-off is at 20:00 GMT.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta names Man Utd star as ‘best player on the pitch’ in FA Cup clash

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta thinks Man Utd goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was the “best player” on the pitch as the Gunners lost to the Red Devils in their FA Cup third round clash.

Bruno Fernandes gave Man Utd the lead early on in the second half with a wonderful curling effort before Diogo Dalot was sent off for a second bookable offence just nine minutes later.

Gabriel Magalhaes then scored a deflected effort inside the area to equalise for Arsenal before the ten men of Man Utd were tested a number of times with the Gunners missing several chances.

Bayindir saved a Martin Odegaard penalty in normal time after Kai Havertz went to ground in the box following a challenge from Man Utd centre-back Harry Maguire.

And Turkey international Bayindir was also the hero in the penalty shootout with the Man Utd goalkeeper saving from Havertz to help send the Red Devils through to the fourth round.

When asked about his side’s wastefulness in front of goal, Arsenla boss Arteta said: “It’s football and a part of our execution is the goalkeeper who was probably the best player [today].

“It’s unbelievable. Obviously, you measure the performance and what we did in relation to the position, you-know, you deserve to win the game by a mile.

“But the reality is we are out and the only thing that’s going to be judged it that but internally I can’t.

“I love my players. I love our team and I love how good they are and what they do because in 1000 games, you should lose one and probably it was this one.

“You need things to go your way and tonight it didn’t. When you go to penalties you know that it’s a flick of the coin and it can go either way.”

Man Utd goalkeeper Bayindir has been playing second fiddle to Andre Onana in the Premier League this season and the Turkish star insists you “have to be ready” if you want to play for the Red Devils.

Bayindir told BBC Sport: “If you are not playing it doesn’t matter. You have to be ready every minute, every second. If you are a Manchester United player you have to be ready always.

“I am working every day. I am patient. I just want to help this great team.

“I want to make everyone happy for this great club.”

Commenting on how Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim works with his players, Bayindir added: “[Ruben Amorim] is talking with us every day and he wants to help us.

“We love him and he’s always trying to do his best. He has a very good relationship with the players and we are trusting him, he is trusting us.

        “We are fighting together.”

Fabrizio Romano confirms €15m defender “could leave” in January with United open to loan proposals

Tyrell Malacia could part ways with Manchester United during the ongoing winter transfer window, reports the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

United are aiming to reshape their squad to align with Ruben Amorim’s football philosophy and style of play, with the acquisition of a left-wing-back identified as a key step in this process.

The Red Devils continue to be linked to several left-sided fullbacks, casting fresh doubts over the long-term future of Luke Shaw and Malacia.

Malacia joined United in a €15 million deal from Feyenoord in July 2022. However, he has not had the best of times at Old Trafford, primarily due to injury issues that caused him to miss the entirety of last season and the early stages of the current campaign.

The Dutchman has made only 44 appearances for United, with 33 of these being starts.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Serie A outfit Como are keen on signing Malacia to bolster Cesc Fabregas’ defensive options.

It was stated that there are also other unnamed suitors for the 25-year-old.

Romano has now given an update on Malacia’s transfer situation, indicating that United are indeed open to offloading him in the next few weeks.

However, according to the Italian journalist, Como do not have Malacia on their latest despite suggestions that they want him.

Romano wrote on X, “Tyrell Malacia could leave Man United now in case of good proposal, even on initial loan with buy clause.”

“But he’s not a target for Italian side Como, no talks despite reports.”

Borussia Dortmund reportedly consider a deal for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford “too expensive”, after they held talks with his representatives last week.

Rashford has fallen out of favour under head coach Ruben Amorim, who has repeatedly left him out of matchday squads due to “training and selection” reasons.

The England international has not featured for the Red Devils since December 12, when he managed 56 minutes of action against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.

Shortly before Christmas, Rashford granted an interview to Henry Winter, admitting that he was prepared for a new challenge, away from his boyhood club.

Unsurprisingly, he has not been short of suitors, with several teams both from England and abroad lining up to land his signature. Some of these include AC Milan, Juventus, Napoli, Como, Dortmund, Galatasaray, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and West Ham.

Last week, the reliable David Ornstein revealed that Dortmund were considering a six-month loan deal for Rashford.

Now, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has given an update, indicating where the Bundesliga slide stand after holding talks with the forward’s agents.

Plettenberg wrote on X, “There was a personal meeting last week between representatives of Marcus Rashford and BVB boss Sebastian Kehl in Dortmund!”

“Dortmund are still in the race to sign Rashford. However, it remains very difficult to make it happen, primarily because the overall package is too expensive at this stage.”

“But BVB informed about all details.”

Man Utd: Rashford transfer issue refuted with Euro giants ‘confident’ of double swoop after City bombshell

According to reports, AC Milan are still “pursuing” Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford and Manchester City defender Kyle Walker.

Rashford is hoping to leave Man Utd this month as he is “ready” for a new challenge away from Old Trafford.

The United forward has been heavily criticised for his performances over the past two seasons and it is probably right for all parties that he moves on.

The 27-year-old’s reputation has taken a hit in recent years, but he is still attracting interest from several European sides and AC Milan appear to be at the front of the queue for his signature.

The Serie A giants are not messing around this month as they are also pursuing Man City star Walker, who has informed Pep Guardiola of his desire to leave the Premier League holders.

In a potential blow to AC Milan, it was reported over the weekend that a Serie A rule could prevent them from signing Rashford and Walker this month.

Current rules only allow Serie A clubs to bring in two non-EU squad members each year, with one bonus English or Albanian ace permitted.

Having signed Serbian international Strahinja Pavlovic and Brazil star Emerson Royal in the summer. their two non-EU slots are already fitted.

The rules state: “Serie A clubs only, while respecting the current laws on foreign worker entry flows into Italy, the registration of only one British professional footballer and one Albanian professional footballer per club, coming from abroad, is allowed, outside the limitations provided.

“New players with British or Albanian citizenship, registered as per the above, may transfer exclusively to other Serie A clubs during the 2024/2025 season, in a transfer period different from the one in which they were registered coming from abroad.”

Despite this, a new report from journalist Ben Jacobs reveals AC Milan are still “pursuing” Rashford, while they are “confident” of signing Walker.

He said: “Milan are confident of signing Kyle Walker and are also still pursuing Marcus Rashford, who has several loan options. Talks ongoing this week.

“Walker has now told Saudi dealmakers his preference is to stay in Europe.”

Rashford was not involved against Arsenal on Sunday. Speaking post-match, Ruben Amorim remained coy when asked whether he will feature for his boyhood club again:  “I don’t know. We’ll see. He is a player for Manchester United. We’ll see. He has to work.

“He has to represent his club and he loves his club but I have to make choices. I already spoke about how I make the choices. It is what it is. Let’s continue, let’s see the next game and like I said I have to make a selection.”

Fabrizio Romano reveals that Man Utd star who played vs Arsenal could now ‘leave’ on loan

Man Utd left-back Tyrell Malacia could now “leave” Old Trafford before the end of the January transfer window on loan, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils brought Malacia to Old Trafford from Feyenoord in 2022 after the Netherlands international’s good performances the previous season.

However, the Dutchman has never got going at Man Utd, making just 22 Premier League appearances in his first season and missing the entire 2023/24 campaign with a severe knee injury which required surgery.

PSV Eindhoven were interested in taking Malacia back to the Eredivisie in the summer transfer window but ended up abandoning their pursuit over fitness concerns.

Malacia missed Erik ten Hag’s final few months in charge of the Red Devils as he continued his path to full fitness after his terrible injury.

And the 25-year-old’s first game back came in Amorim’s second game in charge in a 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League group stage.

He has made four starts and one appearance from the bench in all competitions under Amorim, including his introduction on 91 minutes in extra time as Man Utd beat Arsenal on penalties in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.

Despite his recent appearances, transfer expert Romano revealed that Malacia “could leave” Man Utd in the January transfer window if they get a good offer or “even an initial loan”.

Romano wrote on X: “Tyrell Malacia could leave Man United now in case of good proposal, even on initial loan with buy clause. …but he’s not a target for Italian side Como, no talks despite reports.”

Former Man Utd assistant manager Rene Meulensteen has called on the Red Devils to boost the left-back area of Amorim’s squad in the winter.

Meulensteen told Instant Casino: “I think the key element of Ruben Amorim’s system is having really good wing backs. The biggest area for Manchester United to strengthen in January is that left hand side. Luke Shaw is injured again and there’s no guarantee of when we’ll next see him again.

“Tyrell Malacia has been coming in and out of the team, but I don’t think he’s someone who can hold down that first team place for the next couple of seasons.

“I think Amorim needs to look at that left hand side in January. It’s all about what specific requirements he wants to see from players in certain positions. There’s plenty of talent there and a selection of good players, it’s just a matter of getting the picture clear in his head and finding the right players for the right role.”

Manchester United went down to 10 men and yet clinched an enthralling FA Cup tie against Arsenal 5-3 on penalties away at the Emirates on Sunday.

The battling spirit shown by the backline was exactly what Ruben Amorim would have wanted from his players and ensured they set-up a fourth-round date with former interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy and his Leicester City side next month.

While most of the team deserves plaudits, Rasmus Hojlund struggled yet again playing up top with Joshua Zirkzee an improvement since he came on in the second half.

However, both strikers have been goal-shy, managing only 11 goals between them all season while Marcus Rashford has already declared his intention to leave.

Strikers have been goal-shy this season

The Portuguese head coach had asked INEOS for reinforcements but so far, due to PSR restrictions, no help has been forthcoming.

Amorim would prefer the club to go after his former Sporting Lisbon protege Viktor Gyokeres in January but he had made a promise to his former employers that he would not target any of their players in the winter and hence, a deal is unlikely to materialise this January.

And there have been reports claiming the Swede would prefer a move to Bayern Munich instead of reuniting with his former boss in Manchester and that is why the club are keeping their options open at this stage.

Fichajes have now claimed that the Red Devils could opt to sign Gyokeres’ backup at Sporting, Conrad Harder instead with the Dane impressing in Lisbon since his summer switch from Nordsjaelland.

The Denmark U21 international, signed by Amorim, has started only six times but has netted seven goals while also registering three assists with a goal involvement every 73 minutes.

The 19-year-old can play as a striker as well as on both wings with Sporting set to ask for €35 million for his services should they decide to let him go.

                    Harder on United’s radar

“Manchester United are still looking to strengthen their attack, and in the face of the possible refusal of Viktor Gyökeres, the English team is evaluating alternatives. One of the options that has recently emerged is that of the young striker Conrad Harder, one of the most promising jewels of Sporting Lisbon.

“However, Lisbon does not seem willing to let him go easily. According to sources close to the Portuguese club, Sporting would demand at least 35 million euros for the transfer of the attacker.”

Harder certainly has potential and INEOS have shown they do love signing a diamond in the rough but United already have that in abundance with both Hojlund and Zirkzee.

Now they need an elite finisher instead, someone who can come in and hit the ground running and the club should focus on trying to acquire someone of Gyokeres’ talents or possible Victor Osimhen.

Napoli have made a bid to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United, as per reports in Italy.

Heading into the January transfer window, Marcus Rashford appeared to be the most likely United forward to exit Old Trafford.

The Englishman’s future at the club still remains uncertain as Ruben Amorim continues to name his matchday squads bereft of the winger. However, as things stand, the Mancunians are yet to receive a concrete offer for the 27-year-old.

Instead, it is fellow left-winger Garnacho who has attracted a bid from Napoli.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Napoli have offered United €45 million euros (£38m), including bonuses, for the Argentine talent.

He has landed on Antonio Conte’s radar as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is edging closer to joining Paris Saint-Germain. The Georgian has been linked with United as well but PSG are believed in the pole position to secure his signing.

Garnacho, who has eight goals and five assists to his name across all competitions, is Conte’s first-choice option to replace his exit-bound talisman.

United appear open to selling the 2004-born forward but it is claimed they want around £60m.

However, it is added that there’s a possibility that their valuation could drop. He is tied to the Red Devils until the summer of 2028.

Juventus have also enquired about the electric winger but they are expected to try to sign him in the summer, giving the Naples-based outfit a huge advantage this month.

Garnacho earned plenty of plaudits for his work ethic against Arsenal in the FA Cup. However, he has received criticism for failing to deliver on a consistent basis.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the 20-year-old is open to the idea of leaving United amid interest from Atletico Madrid. United signed the Spanish-born winger from Atletico’s youth side in 2020.
