Man Utd ‘will consider’ exit of £60m star on one condition as Red Devils expect ‘fresh bid’

Man Utd ‘will consider’ exit of £60m star on one condition as Red Devils expect ‘fresh bid’

Man Utd are expecting Napoli to launch a second bid for Alejandro Garnacho after they received encouragement from the winger’s entourage, according to reports.

There has been speculation over the last month that the Red Devils may have to sell players first if they want to bring in meaningful reinforcements in the January transfer window.

That has led to Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford being linked with moves away from Old Trafford with the latter admitting he’s ready for a “new challenge” away from Man Utd.

Garnacho has been attracting strong interest from Napoli with BBC Sport confirming on Friday that Man Utd ‘have turned down an approach’ from the Serie A side.

    The report added:

‘The Serie A side have made Garnacho, 20, their number-one target and plan to use money raised from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s impending move to Paris St-Germain.

‘However, they have failed with an initial approach for Garnacho that fell significantly below the Red Devils’ valuation of the Argentina international.

‘It is not known the precise nature of the communication but it is thought the figure mentioned by Napoli was around £40m.’

And now GiveMeSport claim that Man Utd ‘will only fully decide to cash in on Alejandro Garnacho if the player’s stance is to drive the transfer to Italian club Napoli’.

    The report adds:

‘According to our sources, the Red Devils will not entertain offers below £50million and are adamant about maintaining control over the situation. They have shown an intent to play the 20-year-old, marking a stark contrast to their handling of Marcus Rashford, but are waiting to discover how both the player and Napoli treat the situation from here.

‘Amorim has belief in his qualities – despite the lack of an obvious role in his tactical set-up – yet questions remain over whether Garnacho has the dedication and application necessary to secure a long-term future at Old Trafford.

‘One of the key dynamics in this saga is the role of the player and his camp. Sources have suggested to GMS that Napoli’s initial approach was made after receiving encouragement from figures close to him. If true, this could indicate Garnacho’s openness to a move, and Manchester United will be keen to ensure any exit is seen as his decision rather than the club’s.’

    GiveMeSport continues:

‘Napoli, for their part, are expected to return with an improved offer. Should Garnacho push for a transfer above and beyond £50million, Manchester United will begin to consider a deal. Ideally, they would like to get to the £60million mark before they green-light a transfer, but they would not want to keep the player if he does not have the same focus as other members of the squad.’

Manchester United’s attack could look very different come the summer with two high-profile exits on the cards as INEOS look to raise money to steer clear of PSR worries.

Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are both on the market with their status as academy graduates meaning their sales will count as pure profit.

The Mancunian has already declared his intention to leave his boyhood club with Barcelona and AC Milan considered frontrunners for his signature while Borussia Dortmund are lurking in the background.

As for the young Argentine, Napoli, who have recently lost Kvicha Kvaratshkhelia to Paris Saint-Germain, are looking at the 20-year-old as his potential successor while Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping an eye on proceedings.

      Gittens has caught United’s eye

So far, no offer has been to United’s liking but a vacancy could develop on the left should either of the two depart and United have their eyes on a Bundesliga starlet as replacement.

Jamie Gittens has been on fire for Dortmund, with 11 goals and five assists from 25 games this season, and despite being only 20, is already the club’s second top-scorer.

🚨🔴 Jamie #Gittens remains a top transfer target for FC Bayern in the upcoming summer. Bayern have already held talks with his management, as they aim to sign at least one top winger. All exclusively revealed in December.

He primarily plays on the left wing but can also play on the right and even up front and this versatility is a huge asset for any club.

The England U21 international’s exploits have caught the attention of multiple top clubs including United as well as Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Both could pounce for the former Manchester City academy starlet should Dortmund fail to qualify for the Champions League next season. Nuri Sahin’s team are languishing in 10th position currently.

      Bayern vs United for Gittens

“Jamie Gittens remains a top transfer target for FC Bayern in the upcoming summer. Bayern have already held talks with his management, as they aim to sign at least one top winger. All exclusively revealed in December.

“Should Borussia Dortmund fail to qualify for the Champions League, a departure of Gittens in the summer becomes very likely. FC Bayern are aware of this! Also seriously interested: Manchester United,” wrote Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg on X (formerly Twitter).

Gittens was also a part of Chelsea’s academy and he left City for Germany back in 2020. He is the latest Englishman after Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho to make his mark in the Bundesliga for Dortmund.

And just like the illustrious duo before him, he could also be on the move to more lucrative pastures should he keep up his red-hot form.

He has a current market value of 50 million but could fetch a lot more given the fact that he has a contract with the Signal Iduna Park outfit until 2028.

“I think it’s more a team problem than a Rasmus problem”: Amorim defends struggling United striker after another bad performance

Ruben Amorim says Rasmus Hojlund’s goal drought is a “team problem” ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Brighton on Sunday.

Speaking after the Southampton match on Thursday evening, the head coach was asked to comment on his striker and said:

“I think it’s a team problem, not just now, but it’s also from the past.

“We have clearly a lack of goals and threat. When you tread near the opponents, maybe they don’t press you so high; everything is connected. Every player has moments in a season.

“I think when we started this journey together, Rasmus was the player that was always scoring, so he can come back.

“I think it’s more a team problem than a Rasmus problem.

“In the past, United were a team of transition. And we still are. You can feel it. To create chances in the final third, we struggle a lot. But for that, it’s the most difficult moment to train.

“It’s a team that more enjoys waiting for the play and then transitioning and creating problems, so it’s something we have to change. And to have time to change, we need training and to win games.”

Asked about potential moves for players such as Antony, the boss replied:

“I want to keep my players. I don’t know what is going to happen this window, we will see, but he did a good job against Southampton.

“They are our players. We have control [who leaves or stays]. Sometimes it’s harder for the players because sometimes they have information [on their futures]. For me, it’s harder to prepare the game when we lose. When we win, we can manage everything: the expectations, the mood for some players. We just focus on the next game.”

        Amorim also discussed the schedule.

“It’s going to be hard until the end of the season,” he said.

“It will be a little bit of a rollercoaster. Then it depends on the time we have to train.

“We are still in the Cup, we have Europa League games, then it’s also important to focus on the Rangers game because if we win, we take two games off our schedule, then we can have a full week.”

Speaking more on players being tired, he said:

“Ugarte was tired because he did a good job against Liverpool and Arsenal. But Ugarte and Fernandes were the best players against Liverpool.”

United again conceded from a set piece against Southampton and was asked about that ongoing problem.

“Against Southampton, it seems like a simple header. Sometimes in the moment, you feel like everything is against you. In the end, things change.

“We have to improve. We played against maybe the best team in the world on set pieces [Arsenal]. This season is going to be a rollercoaster. We have to improve in all the areas of our game.”

Official: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer named Beşiktaş manager in stunning move

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now officially the new head coach of Besiktas.

The move would mark Solskjaer’s first return to management since leaving United in November 2021.

The 51-year-old Norwegian, best known for his tenure at Old Trafford, led United to consecutive top-four finishes during his two full seasons.

In 2021, he guided the team to the Europa League final, where they suffered a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss to Villarreal.

Besiktas, currently sixth in the Turkish Super Lig, have been without a permanent head coach since parting ways with Giovanni van Bronckhorst in November.

The club is eyeing Solskjaer as the ideal candidate to stabilise their campaign.

In a September 2023 interview with The Athletic, Solskjaer expressed his desire to return to the dugout. He revealed that he had received offers, including approaches from Saudi Arabian clubs. However, he emphasised the importance of finding the right project.

His ability to manage big-game situations and nurture talent could be pivotal as the club looks to climb the league table and make an impact in European competition.

Although he might not be the best tactical coach, his calm demeanour can certainly work with certain players, as it did at United.

Stylistically, one could expect to see a counter-attacking system reliant on quick transitions.

This will be a great opportunity for Solskjaer to reignite his managerial career at the European stage.

United pull out of race for incredible talent who’d looked certain to come to Old Trafford – report

Manchester United have been ruled out of the running for Rosenborg wonderkid Sverre Nypan, according to reports in his native Norway.

Nypan is one of the hottest properties in Europe and hopes were high that the 18-year-old could be Ruben Amorim’s first signing as United boss, with a January swoop reported last month to be firmly on the cards.

However, United’s hopes of landing the young midfielder have been torpedoed by a report from TV 2, who claim that the race for Nypan’s signature is “nearing a conclusion”, but that United are no longer part of it.

TV 2 wax lyrical about Nypan, stating that the “great talent can choose more or less freely among the biggest leagues in the world”, and notes that the Premier League is a “hot destination”.

But while Arsenal and Manchester City are both named as potential suitors, United are said to have fallen out of contention.

“Manchester United is also among the clubs that have long been pointed out as a potential new club for Nypan,” the report explains.

“But according to TV 2’s information, the Reds from Manchester are not among the remaining candidates.”

The gist of the report is that Nypan’s camp are eager to wrap up the youngster’s future and “have a decision ready within the next few weeks”.

The Norwegian football season ended in November, with Rosenborg finishing fourth. Nypan contributed eight goals and seven assists, to bring his first-team totals up to 13 goals and 11 assists in 60 appearances.

TV 2 are not clear as to whether United have pulled out of a move for the player or whether he and his entourage have decided against a switch to Old Trafford.

It’s unlikely that Nypan himself has discounted the Red Devils as his next club, having revealed last year that it would be “a dream come true to play for Manchester United.”

But as purse-strings tighten at Old Trafford, it’s possible INEOS have balked at Rosenborg’s £11m valuation of their starlet.

United in advance talks to move on young striker after disappointing first half of the season – report

              Joe Hugill

With the winter transfer window now in full swing, despite limited activity thus far Manchester United are still expected to complete some business before the month’s end.

Given the need to move players on, United are reportedly happy to listen to offers for the majority of their first team stars and fringe players currently at the club.

Youngster Joe Hugill is one player expected to spend the remainder of the season away from Old Trafford with League Two outfit, Carlisle, in advanced talks.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, The Blues are close to agreeing a loan deal for the striker who spent the first half of the season with Wigan Athletic.

Hugill has since been recalled by United after seeing his involvement with The Latics diminish since the start of the campaign.

The United man started the first six games for the League One side but struggled to nail down a first team spot and returned to Old Trafford this month.

Carlisle have apparently agreed personal terms and are set to take the 21-year-old to Brunton Park as they fight to stay in the Football League.

Former Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson is currently in charge at the club and sees Hugill as a perfect option to bolster his attacking numbers.

Carlisle are seven points adrift at the bottom of League Two and are red-hot favourites to be relegated to the National League.

Williamson needs all the help he can get to keep his side in the division and will desperately hope the Hugill move turns out to be an inspired one.

The switch is likely to be designed with the view of securing a permanent move rather than a route into the first team at Old Trafford given his lack of involvement under multiple regimes.

The Englishman is yet to feature for United since moving to Manchester from Sunderland in 2020.

United star could be “in hot water” following lewd celebration in Southampton win – report

Joshua Zirkzee could find himself in hot water after he performed a lewd gesture during Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Southampton last night.

Most of the match proved disastrous for Man United, who found themselves 1-0 down in their own backyard against the team at the foot of the Premier League table.

It took some last-ditch heroics by Amad Diallo to rescue Man United from humiliation with a hat-trick.

Although Amad was the star of the show, Zirkzee proved highly effective off the bench, playing a crucial part of the build-up for the opening goal and proving his talent at passing.

Sadly, his efforts could be overshadowed by one regretful moment.

TalkSPORT reported this morning that Zirkzee could be facing a fine and perhaps even a ban due to one controversial moment.

“Zirkzee’s emotions may have got the better of him as he celebrated one of Diallo’s strikes,” the report explained. “Facing the stands, the Dutch international grabbed his crotch with his right hand.”

“Similar gestures have previously landed players in hot water with governing bodies,” the article noted, providing examples.

“At last summer’s Euro 2024, Jude Bellingham was fined £25,000 and handed a suspended one-match ban for grabbing his crotch during England’s win over Slovakia. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo was slapped with a one-game ban for gesturing towards fans whilst playing for Al Nassr in 2024. The same issue also saw the five-time Ballon d’Or winner fined €20,000 for imitating Diego Simeone’s ‘cojones’ celebration in 2019.”

Should Zirkzee’s actions result in a ban, this could prove highly problematic for United.

Aside from the Dutch forward, the only striker at Ruben Amorim’s disposal is Rasmus Hojlund, who has proven to be a consistent underperformer, even against strugglers Southampton.

What’s more, United have been quiet in the transfer market, and with over half of January over, time is running out to recruit reinforcements.

Amorim will need to act quickly in order to overcome United’s lack of firepower up front. Still, Ineos will need to acknowledge the need for transfers before United’s squad is further depleted.

Man Utd: Ratcliffe left unimpressed by £134m duo as ‘utterly hopeless’ star picked out as ‘boy among men’

Man Utd co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was left unimpressed by two players as the Red Devils beat Southampton 3-1 in the Premier League on Thursday night.

The visitors had many of best first-half chances before a Manuel Ugarte own-goal gave the Saints a 1-0 lead at half-time as Ruben Amorim’s side struggled to get going.

Antony missed a tap-in at the back post during the second half before Amad Diallo burst into life to score a 12-minute hat-trick to rescue all three points for Man Utd.

The result lifted Man Utd up to 12th in the Premier League table as the Red Devils hierarchy look to provide Amorim with some reinforcements before the end of the January transfer window.

Ratcliffe, who has been cutting costs since arriving at Old Trafford as co-owner last year, was unimpressed by two Man Utd players after Antony failed to score in front of an open goal, while Leny Yoro was beaten by Southampton’s Kamaldeen Sulemana.

BBC journalist Simon Stone spotted Man Utd co-owner and INEOS founder Ratcliffe in the Old Trafford stands with a ‘stern face’ after the two incidents.

Stone wrote: “Leny Yoro just got absolutely skinned by Kamaldeen Sulemana. Play switches to the other end and Antony fails to put the ball into an open goal.

“That pair cost £134m. No wonder Sir Jim Ratcliffe has a stern face.”

Ratcliffe wasn’t the only one disappointed by the performance of a number of Man Utd players with Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst claiming Rasmus Hojlund “utterly hopeless” against Southampton.

Luckhurst wrote in his player ratings: “Never should have started and, apart from one good piece of play to set up Garnacho, he was utterly hopeless again. A boy among men. 3.”

Diallo has probably been the Red Devils’ player of the season so far and the Ivorian was ecstatic to score his first hat-trick for Man Utd on Thursday.

He said: “Yeah, it’s important to score. But, for me, the most important thing right now is the win, together.

“I’m so happy to score my first hat-trick, especially at Old Trafford. I’m so happy, especially for the win, because I think this team deserve it, and we have to keep going like this.”

On their performance against the Saints, Diallo added: “I think, especially in the first half, we were not good enough. But I think we believed until the end, we push and push and the fans were already there to push us.

“We won the match but we have to keep going like this because the next match is against Brighton, it’s a tough match and we have to be more focused.”

When asked which of his three goals he preferred, the Man Utd winger replied: “The second one is my best goal! A player like Christian Eriksen or Bruno [Fernandes], they have the quality to put a ball [in] like this.

“You have to believe it, you have to go, then you give them [the ball] and you go and then you have the ball there, and then score the second goal. I was so happy. I feel proud. I was so happy to score the second goal.

“I was happy for myself, but I was so happy for the team because we deserved this win. We need this confidence to keep going and we have to continue like this.”
