“Medical as early as next Thursday”: Contact between United superstar and European giants expected in the “next days” – reports

Manchester United are currently trying to offload Marcus Rashford this January after the forward came out and expressed his desire to leave his boyhood club.

Since that infamous interview, Ruben Amorim has not afforded a single minute of action to the Mancunian with INEOS backing the head coach’s stance.

Despite United’s best efforts, the Englishman’s £300,000 gross per week wages (via capology) and the club’s asking price have meant not too many clubs can afford Rashford in the middle of the season.

Saudi clubs could but the United No 10 has no intention of joining the cash-rich league at this stage of his career while he has also rejected lucrative approaches from MLS.

Dortmund in pole position for Rashford

AC Milan seemed to be in pole position at one moment but the England international had kept the Serie A giants waiting as he wanted to secure an exit to Barcelona.

The Serie A giants have since moved their attention on to Kyle Walker, while the Catalan club have struggled to come up with the finances to afford the loan deal which has allowed Borussia Dortmund to sneak into pole position.

🚨🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Borussia Dortmund and Man United plan to have new contacts in the next days for Marcus Rashford.

    — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) January 19, 2025

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the United star’s camp and the Bundesliga giants are set for a meeting imminently while Barca are currently trying to offload Ansu Fati in the hope that they can then free up enough space for Rashford.

“Borussia Dortmund and Man United plan to have new contacts in the next days for Marcus Rashford. AC Milan are closing in on Walker deal, while BVB will explore more details of Rashford loan.

    Meeting imminent

“And Barça remain very keen, based on Ansu Fati’s future,” Romano wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Interestingly, Bild have added that Dortmund are pushing very hard and if things fall in place, the England international could be headed to Dortmund for a medical as early as next Thursday.

For the loan deal to go through, the Carrington graduate will need to forego a part of his salary or United will need to pay a portion and only then can the German side afford the costly operation.

It is expected to be a straight loan with no option to buy included. If Rashford can regain his form like Jadon Sancho last season, it could allow United to sell him for a higher fee in the summer.

“Transfer target number 1: Manchester United star Marcus Rashford (27). According to BILD information, Dortmund is ahead in the bid to sign the striker. If everything goes according to plan, it can all happen very quickly and the 60-time England international could arrive in Dortmund for a medical check as early as next Thursday!

    Medical soon

“The attacker, who was dropped by the new Man United coach Rúben Amorim (39), is said to be willing to forego at least part of his salary in order to get his faltering career in Dortmund back on track.

“Nevertheless, the Rashford package would cost BVB between 6 and 8 million euros. A lot of money for a player whose chances of signing him permanently are practically zero. With salary and transfer fee, the entire Rashford package is not financially viable for Dortmund!”

Even though INEOS will not be too happy with the situation, getting Rashford’s wages off the books will be a huge help while they will also earn a loan fee.

Hopefully, the player can show signs of life if he does join the German giants who are currently struggling. Interestingly, Erik ten Hag is favourite to take over should Nuri Sahin get sacked. Another development worth keeping an eye on.

Diogo Dalot returns after serving a one-match suspension. He will play in the left wing back role, with Noussair Mazraoui at right wing back.

Harry Maguire also returns to the defence and joins Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, with Lisandro Martinez missing out.

      Andre Onana is in goal.

Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte are once again the midfield pivot.

Man Utd ‘ready’ to sell Garnacho as Spurs race entry is confirmed amid Napoli second bid

Man Utd ‘ready’ to sell Garnacho as Spurs race entry is confirmed amid Napoli second bid

Man Utd are now prepared to sell Alejandro Garnacho in the January transfer window with Tottenham entering the race to sign the Argentinian, according to reports.

The Red Devils have had a miserable season with the board sacking Erik ten Hag at the end of October before hiring Ruben Amorim to take the club forward.

After a poor start, Amorim has made some progress over the last few weeks with good performances against Liverpool and Arsenal, before beating Southampton 3-1 at Old Trafford in midweek.

Amorim is obviously still lacking a number of players to turn Man Utd into a team that can be successful in the Premier League with the Red Devils currently 13th in the Premier League ahead of their clash against Brighton on Sunday.

That could mean having to sell some players in order to raise funds before they can then make signing of their own, with Garnacho one player who is attracting a lot of interest from elsewhere.

Garnacho has been the subject of two bids from Serie A side Napoli with the Italians reportedly ‘increasing their offer’ to €55m over the weekend for the Man Utd winger.

That report indicated that Man Utd are still holding out for €70m if they sell in January with Garnacho apparently reaching a ‘verbal agreement’ over a five-year contract with Napoli.

And now Caught Offside claim that Man Utd are now ‘ready to consider letting Alejandro Garnacho leave if they receive a good enough offer this January’.

As well as Napoli, the report adds that ‘sources have also informed CaughtOffside that Tottenham have joined the race for Garnacho, having received information on his situation’.

        The report adds:

‘One imagines Man Utd would rather sell abroad than to a Premier League rival, but Spurs will no doubt hope they can emerge as serious contenders for the talented 20-year-old.

‘Garnacho has shown great potential during his time at United, even if he’s seemingly no longer looking like being as much of an important player under new manager Ruben Amorim.’

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna suggested on Saturday that the Italian club are interested in doing a deal for the Man Utd winger.

When asked directly about a potential move for Garnacho, Manna said: “We are making some assessments, he is an important player, but he is not ours.

“We must not get carried away even if we know that an important player has left, a top player as the manager defined him and therefore the expectations are high. But we will do something on Napoli’s terms.”

On Napoli’s decision to sell Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain, Manna added: “The team is reacting well, already last week the player did not want to come to the match and had excluded himself. The coach is able to unite the group and they already knew about the situation.

“You have to ask him what he has to tell us. I can say that the player has asked to be sold.

“We were working on the renewal which was not easy, but it was well underway. His salary requirements were clearly not at our level and did not match.

“The choice was forced, we wish him the best, he is the past even if he wrote great pages for Napoli.”

Solskjaer plotting move for ex-United midfielder who is available for free transfer in January – Fabrizio Romano

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is interested in former Manchester United attacking midfielder Tom Lawrence, as per reports.

Solskjaer has agreed to return to the touchline after a break of more than three years. The Norwegian, who was sacked as United’s manager in 2021, has been named the new boss at Besiktas.

The Istanbul based outfit have had a tough season, as they find themselves fifth in the Super Lig, a staggering 20 points behind league leaders Galatasaray.

Solskjaer has seemingly already started exploring the transfer market to turn the fortunes of the Black Eagles around, and he has reportedly set his sights on a familiar figure.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Besiktas are “showing initial interest” in Rangers star Lawrence.

The 31-year-old has made 15 appearances for the Scottish giants this season, managing five goals and two assists across all competitions.

          — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) January 18, 2025

He has played as a second striker as well as an attacking midfielder at the club. Accordingly, he could challenge both Joao Mario and Ciro Immobile in Istanbul.

The Welshman’s current deal at Ibrox Stadium is due to expire at the end of the season but the Italian journalist says he is available for free in January itself.

Lawrence graduated from United’s academy and left the club in 2014. During his time at the academy, he was also coached by Solskjaer, who led the reserves side from 2008 to 2011.

Solskjaer is set to come across many figures with United connections in Turkey. Besiktas’s rivals Fenerbahce are led by ex-United boss Jose Mourinho and their midfield features Fred, who was one of Solskjaer’s most reliable players during his time at Old Trafford.

Further, in November, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Besiktas are interested in signing Antony.

It will be interesting to see how Solskjaer’s presence at the club would influence their interest in struggling United stars.

Man Utd transfer: Romano claims La Liga side are ‘closing in’ on ‘agreement’ for £85m Red Devils man

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that La Liga side Real Betis are ‘closing in’ on an agreement to sign Man Utd winger Antony on loan for the rest of the season.

The Red Devils, who face Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday, have been having a terrible season with Ruben Amorim’s side currently 13th in the the table.

Antony, who signed from Ajax for £85m in 2022, has played 401 minutes in all competitions this season over 13 appearances, three of which have been in the starting XI.

His time in the team has slightly improved since the arrival of Amorim as manager but it’s understood that the new Man Utd head coach is unlikely to stand in the way of his exit from Old Trafford.

Antony somehow missed a tap-in as Man Utd beat Southampton, who are bottom of the Premier League, 3-1 in midweek with Amad Diallo scoring a hat-trick towards the end of the match to save Amorim’s blushes.

And now it looks like Brazil international Antony is on his way out of Old Trafford in the January transfer window with transfer expert Romano confirming a loan until the end of the season has almost been agreed with Real Betis.

Romano wrote on X: ‘Real Betis are closing in on Antony deal with Man United! Final details of the agreement being discussed, loan move until June with NO option clause currently included. Antony has opened doors to the move, Man United will also cover part of the salary.’

Amorim will be hoping that Man Utd co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will help him improve the squad before the January window shuts with outgoings starting to take shape.

When asked whether he had a chance to speak to Ratcliffe, who was attending the Southampton match, Amorim replied at a press conference: “Yes. I had five minutes with him, to talk about different things, about the game.

“It was not good at the game, but, in the end, the result helped the conversation. So we continued with our job, it’s a really difficult moment, but today was more important: the win. I know the fans want to see so much better football than this.

“I want to see so much better football than this, but we need time. Like I said in the first days here, to win time, we need to win games. We did that today, not in a good fashion, but we managed to win and we’re going to prepare for the next game.”

United will need to focus on stopping this Brighton star in order to exact revenge at Old Trafford – analysis

Coming fresh off a 3-1 win over Southampton, Manchester United are set to host Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford this afternoon.

While the Southampton match may have looked like a comfortable win according to the scoreline, it was anything but. Currently bottom of the Premier League, Southampton led 1-0 against Man United for a large chunk of the match, only for Ruben Amorim’s men to spark a comeback in the 82nd minute, with Amad Diallo going on to earn a sensational hat-trick.

Unfortunately, the goal that United conceded came from a vulnerability that they have shown time and again – poor defending from corners. Manuel Ugarte turned the ball into his own net to hand the visitors a lead that they almost held until the final whistle.

Beating Ipswich Town 2-0 away from home in their previous outing, Brighton put an end to an eight-game winless streak in the Premier League. Such poor form is encouraging for United, but there are still some dangers that the visitors may pose that Amorim’s team will want to be aware of.

Striker Joao Pedro is arguably the visitors’ biggest threat up front. With five goals and five assists in 15 league matches this season, the Brazilian has been particularly effective against sizeable opposition. He scored to hand Brighton a valuable draw against Arsenal at the start of January, having provided two assists in the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa the match prior.

What’s more, earlier in the season, he found the back of the net in his side’s 2-1 win over Manchester City and scored yet again against Arsenal in the 1-1 draw in their reverse fixture. (Stats via Transfermarkt)

Sadly, United are no stranger to Pedro’s clinical finishing. In their previous encounter, the Brazilian scored the winner to hand his side a late 2–1 victory at the American Express Stadium.

With Harry Maguire expected to return to the starting 11 and expected to play alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez in Amorim’s usual back three, he could be key to keeping Pedro and the rest of the Brighton attackers at bay.

Furthermore, Maguire’s and De Ligt’s heights may come in handy as United look to cease their defensive vulnerabilities from set pieces.

Maguire has won an impressive 69% of his aerial duels in the Premier League this season, while De Ligt has won a respectable 65% of his aerial battles.

While he may not have the same height advantage, Lisandro Martinez has shown a good ground game this season, averaging 1.9 tackles, 2.8 clearances, and 4.1 ball recoveries per game. He could play a pivotal role in breaking down Brighton’s quick-paced counter-attacks.

Ultimately, Amorim must opt for height and physicality at the back in order to beat Brighton in the air – a decision he is expected to take.

In the midfield, Bruno Fernandes may provide some much-needed creativity. He has proven time and again to be more effective in the middle of the park than in Amorim’s front three, so this would naturally be the place he should play. Paired with Kobbie Mainoo, there should be plenty of seamless passing innovative gameplay which could prove to be the foundation of United’s build-up play.

After all, Mainoo has an 87% passing accuracy and 70% accuracy for long balls, while Fernandes averages an impressive 2.3 key passes per game.

Up front, it would appear wise to select Joshua Zirkzee ahead of an ineffective Rasmus Hojlund. Amad Diallo is a natural choice on the right, coming off of his sensational performance against Southampton, while Alejandro Garnacho is expected to compliment him on the left.

Scoring six goals and conceding four in their last five league matches, Brighton have been gradually improving their form in recent times, meaning United will need to be at their best to come away with a win.

Losing focus, as was the case against Southampton, is not a mistake that United can afford this time around.

Amad Diallo likely to flop at Man Utd like Kobbie Mainoo and 13 other post-Sir Alex ‘saviours’

It was That Man Again who saved Manchester United’s blushes against Southampton on Thursday. Amad Diallo is the shining light in a chasm of darkness at Old Trafford that has – if anything – become more impenetrable since Ruben Amorim took charge of the club.

Amid reports that no Red Devil is now ‘untouchable’ with Alejandro Garnacho deemed too ‘scruffy’ for United but not for Napoli, as Chelsea keep tabs of negotiations over Kobbie Mainoo’s extension, Diallo has emerged as the shiny new youngster that’s being built up as the club’s saviour, only to come crashing back down to earth when he gets a case of the Manchester Uniteds like the multiple Messiahs who have risen before an inevitable fall in the last decade or so.

We’ve come up with 14 players in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson apocalypse who have been billed as a great redeemer before falling foul of playing for The Greatest Club In The World, in chronological order.

                Adnan Januzaj
Manchester United and David Moyes’ saviour after a brace on his full debut against Sunderland in October 2013, with a display which briefly, incredibly led to talks of him also being England’s salvation amid suggestions of re-nationalisation with Belgium littered with forward options compared to the dearth of talent Roy Hodgson had to call upon. How things have changed away from Old Trafford.

Januzaj managed just three further goals in 60 games for United and recently admitted his “life peaked” at the Stadium of Light.

                Angel Di Maria
We’re not sure anyone hates Manchester United as much as Angel Di Maria. After three goals and six assists in his opening nine games for the club he got injured and then essentially looked as though he couldn’t be arsed with it.

He later claimed Louis van Gaal was his “worst ever coach”, that he “didn’t give a sh*t” about the No.7 shirt, while  former PSG goalkeeper Marcin Bulka revealed – in a glorious show of pettiness – that “when something related to Manchester United appears on television, he changes the channel quickly”.

                Marcus Rashford
Given he now wants to leave but no f***er can afford Manchester United’s asking price or his wages, that £84m contract he signed 18 months ago feels like a pretty significant misstep for everyone involved.

Rashford could just about have had his pick of any European club at that point on the back of a 30-goal season, while his ‘dream’ of Barcelona now feels fanciful at best. And United are going to be taking a massive hit no matter what happens having turned away £100m approaches in the past.

                Axel Tuanzebe
“To put up a performance like this against Neymar and Mbappé, I have to say he almost surprised us as well,” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted after Tuanzebe’s shut down two of European football’s most-feared forwards in the Parcs des Princes.

A year earlier, at 21 years old, he became the youngest player to captain United since Norman Whiteside in 1985, during an EFL Cup victory against Rochdale. He was tipped for great things at Old Trafford but now finds himself at Ipswich, chiefly watching from the sidelines as injuries continue to blight a once hugely promising career.

                Mason Greenwood
He was good. He’s still good. Manchester United were right to get rid of him.

                Brandon Williams
Gary Neville said back in January 2020 that he “loves Brandon Williams to bits”. Why? “Because he has that look in his eye of someone that would eat his opponents nose to win the match”. Oh, that look.

He was genuinely Manchester United’s best player in that period and is now unemployed.

                Cristiano Ronaldo
A brace on his Sensational Return to Old Trafford and a few goals more after that, and as it turns out his lack of pressing wasn’t the sole reason for Manchester United being rubbish, but he ensured it went to sh*t, throwing most of it over his shoulder as he walked out the door in a Piers Morgan-expedited blaze of hard feelings.

                Anthony Elanga
Despite one playing for Champions League-chasers and the other in a team closer to the relegation zone, we’re not sure Elanga is or was ever at Diallo’s level, and it felt as though it was more Ralf Rangnick than anyone else who put Elanga on a pedestal, more in a bid to shame his overpaid, work-shy teammates than anything else.

But he did enjoy a brief spell in the United sun; hailed as a “role model” by Rangnick after a Diallo-esque rescue act against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, “playing as though it was a dream come true” like United’s new right winger before being granted sweet release from his boyhood club to join a serious outfit.

                Alejandro Garnacho
We’re not sure any Manchester United footballer (and this is saying something) has ever been overhyped to quite the same level as Garnacho. His Puskas award-winning madness certainly hasn’t helped amid absurd comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi for a footballer who is very good occasionally, terrible quite often and fine most of the time.

Ruben Amorim’s not convinced, neither is Paul Scholes and if United can get Napoli, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea or anyone else to pay £50m or a guy who doesn’t really look like he wants to be there, they should take the money and spend it on someone who does.

                Lisandro Martinez
His Premier League debut against Brighton was shocking, but he was soon lauded as a diminutive aggressor who made Jamie Carragher look daft through his heightest claims. The Butcher, and all that.

But as is the case for so many United players, what we’ve seen of Martinez since that first Erik ten Hag season has us wondering whether we dreamed his dominant displays, those crisp and accurate passes out from the back, his comfort when taking the ball in tight spaces.

Every now and again he puts in a performance – like against Liverpool – to remind us of what he’s capable of, rather the propensity for stupid decisions or no decisions at all that he now has as his base state.

                Antony
He scored a goal in each of his first three Premier League games and has managed a further five in his next 59. That Southampton miss says it all.

                Rasmus Hojlund
His substitution soon after half-time against Southampton felt like a moment when the Hojlund stans may have considered changing their social media avatars

He had been awful to the point where even the most ardent of his apologists couldn’t disagree with him being hooked, with their typical claims that Hojlund only having 18 touches in that time Not Being His Problem But Everyone Else’s easily shot down by the vast majority of those touches ballooning off whichever part of his body happened to be in the way.

It’s telling that he’s the only member of the three former ‘untouchables’ not to be linked with a move away in this window, and it’s because he’s done next to nothing for Manchester Untied – and we don’t just mean goals and assists but everything in between – since a glut of goals a year ago when the majority hailed the arrival of The Real Hojlund, who’s been conspicuous by his absence since.

Paul Scholes says it would be “absolutely ridiculous” and we don’t disagree, but based on this season alone, Manchester United should definitely be considering £70m bids, from Chelsea or other willing parties.

And we would ask those of you desperate to see Mainoo remain at Old Trafford as a generational talent and possible future United captain to put your incredulity at his sale aside to consider a career featuring six months of excellence followed by six months of mediocrity.

His impact from the bench against Southampton drew praise from guilt-ridden Manchester United fans who now chant his name in penance having jeered him from the pitch against Newcastle, but one half of reasonable football doesn’t constitute a redemption arc for a striker who has scored two goals in 20 Premier League appearances since his winner on debut that got United fans giddy over the prospect of having two goalscorers to call upon rather than the since dawned reality of not having any.

“Final details”: Fabrizio Romano confirms United star’s loan move to La Liga is nearly complete

Manchester United’s Antony is close to completing a 6-month loan to Real Betis, with just the “final details” of the deal being discussed.

This is according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who posted the news on his X account this morning.

                  Romano said:

“Real Betis are closing in on Antony deal with Man United!

“Final details of the agreement being discussed, loan move until June with NO option clause currently included.

Antony has opened doors to the move, Man United will also cover part of the salary.”

The Peoples Person reported yesterday that the move was accelerating but it now seems that it is definitely going to happen.

United have sought reassurances that for the deal to take place, the Brazilian must be given significant minutes by head coach Manuel Pellegrini.

With the loan not having a buy clause and with United paying some of Antony’s salary, fans will be disappointed that the move is unlikely to free up funds for an incoming star this month.

Indeed, Antony’s absence for the remainder of the season will leave the Red Devils extremely light in attacking areas, with Mason Greenwood having already gone, Marcus Rashford being ostracised from the first team and Jadon Sancho on loan at Chelsea, none of whom have been replaced.

Mason Mount’s persistent injury problems are also leaving United a man down.

While Antony was very much a backup to the excellent Amad, any injury or loss of form to the Ivorian will surely leave head coach Ruben Amorim scratching his head looking for a replacement on the right side of the attack.

3-4-3: United will shoot down the Seagulls today with this lightning fast line-up

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim will have some tired legs to deal with when selecting his starting XI for today’s match vs Brighton at Old Trafford.

Amorim mentioned that both Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo were weary during the Southampton game just three days ago, and with a Europa League clash against Rangers coming up on Thursday, at least one of them will surely be rested today.

As Mainoo was replaced at half time against the Saints, he should be the fresher of the two and so we expect him to play alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Toby Collyer are other options.

Diogo Dalot will be back from suspension so we expect him to return to the left wing back role, with Noussair Mazraoui switching back to the right.

Tyrell Malacia is another option at wing back.

Harry Maguire is also likely to return in defence in place of Leny Yoro, who looked shaky on Thursday. Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez will most likely accompany him in the back three.

Up front, we have been predicting Josh Zirkzee will replace Rasmus Hojlund for a couple of games now but have been wrong. However, with the former looking stronger with every game and the latter looking weaker, surely the Dutchman will get his reward today?

Amad and Alejandro Garnacho will flank him and look for the clever layoffs he is skilled at providing.

Andre Onana will be in goal.

Marcus Rashford is unlikely to feature and has been pretty much banished from the first team squad amidst speculation over his future.

Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Mason Mount are all injured.

With all that in mind, here is our predicted XI for today’s 2pm GMT kick off:

United linked with move for former PL goal machine, could be the perfect solution to goalscoring woes – report

Amad Diallo’s late hattrick at Old Trafford on Thursday spared Manchester United’s blushes against bottom-of-the-league Southampton with the Saints making the Red Devils look distinctly average for most of the game.

Rasmus Hojlund was almost invisible up front, failing to hold on to the ball under pressure and constantly handing possession back to the visitors.

The Dane has not scored for over a month now and following Joshua Zirkzee’s impressive cameo, the Dutchman is expected to be handed a rare start against Brighton on Sunday.

However, the former Bologna ace only has four goals this season and looks more adept at linking up play as compared to finishing chances off.

                      United need a ruthless finisher

With Marcus Rashford also set for an exit, Ruben Amorim is crying out for a ruthless finisher as he seeks to help the club out of their current predicament.

The Portuguese knows that very little in terms of help in January is on the cards and he will likely have to wait until summer to land his desired finisher.

Viktor Gyokeres seems a realistic target for next summer but journalist Ben Jacobs (via TBR Football) has added an interesting name into the mix: Ivan Toney.

The England international was a long-term target for the Old Trafford side back when Erik ten Hag was in charge but the ex-Brentford striker decided to leave the Premier League for the riches of the Saudi Pro League, linking up with former Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino at Al-Ahli.

                      Toney has struggled in Saudi

But despite the obvious difference in the levels of both the leagues, the 28-year-old has not found it easy there, managing only four league goals in 12 appearances.

However, his record in cup competitions has been much better, netting four goals from six AFC Champions League Elite and one in one in the King’s Cup.

As per Jacobs, the England international might not remain in Saudi Arabia for too long with a summer exit or January 2026 departure on the cards.

“I would still just keep, in the back pocket if you like, an eye on Ivan Toney. That’s because we know Manchester United have looked in the past.

“There’s nothing to suggest yet that Toney’s chapter in Saudi is going to come to an end, and I certainly wouldn’t want to fuel belief that Manchester United are active on it yet.

                      Toney deal back on?

“But I hear from a lot of sources that come the summer or maybe even January 2026 that the Toney situation is going to be one to watch.”

Toney had chosen to snub United due to the wages on offer in Saudi as well as his lack of pressing up front, which Ten Hag had flagged as a concern.

His current form seems to suggest Toney would not be a gamechanger for Amorim but maybe he could work as a backup option. Al-Ahli are likely to demand the £40 million they had paid the Bees to let him go and INEOS would be better served spending that amount on other targets.

This report needs to be taken with a pinch of salt given the Englishman’s form since leaving these shores.
