Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd and Arsenal on transfer alert after Wolves manager comments

Fabrizio Romano has offered a transfer update on the future of Wolves striker Matheus Cunha after Vitor Pereira’s surprise comments.

Wolves fell to a 14th Premier League defeat of the season after losing 3-1 at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea but captain Cunha was berated in the aftermath of the game by Periera for his body language during the game.

“He’s a captain, he can be frustrated as he wants to win but everyone in the dressing room wants to win. I do not like his body language,” said the Wolves boss.

“I understand it now, I will not understand it next time.”

The Brazilian forward was one of his side’s better players, managing five shots in total, two tackles and one key pass but it was always going to be an uphill task against Enzo Maresca’s side.

Such comments from the manager have come at a sensitive time given the transfer rumours and interest in Cunha from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United – both of whom would love to acquire the services of the attacker who is enjoying a strong campaign.

Cunha has 10 goals and four assists this season in the league and has shown a wide variety of different qualities that include solo efforts, goals from distance and an overall all-round improvement despite featuring in a struggling side.

Transfer guru Romano offered an update on his current situation on X following the game, claiming that Cunha is ‘one to watch’ for the rest of the month as contract talks stall.

‘Cunha’s situation from now to end of January remains one to watch. New deal not formally signed yet as reported two days ago, clubs showing interest with Arsenal still keen and not only…

‘Vitor Pereira’s post-match words yesterday were also strong.’

Interest from Man Utd and Arsenal

Mikel Arteta’s side could seek to bring in Cunha to help fill the void left by the injured Gabriel Jesus who has been ruled out for the season. Kai Havertz has toiled in the number nine role while Leandro Trossard as a false nine has been rarely utilised.

One report from Spain claims Arsenal want Cunha in January whose asking price is set at £60million, which is £7.5million less than the fee paid for Havertz.

They do face competition from Man United, however, who need to strengthen under Ruben Amorim to avoid another catastrophic season. Cunha is seen as a potential target but the competition may rule them out of a deal.

While he remains a target, the report states that they are eyeing a double swoop with Rayan Ait-Nouri as well but Wolves are hoping to hold onto the key duo until the end of the season to ensure their Premier League survival.

United coach has talked to club legend “several times” in effort to stay positive amid poor start

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is in constant contact with legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Portuguese boss has had an incredibly tough start to life at Old Trafford.

There have been moments where his ideas have shone through in the team’s dangerous pressing which has led to numerous goals, most often shown by Amad.

Impressive results at Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal in the FA Cup have also occurred.

Nonetheless, shocking league form sees the club sit in 13th place and after the latest poor result at home to Brighton and Hove Albion, Amorim labelled his team “maybe the worst” in the club’s history.

90 Min report that Amorim has been seeking help and he “has admitted that he has been in regular contact with legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson since arriving at Old Trafford.”

The Scot is still a regular presence around the club in spite of his ambassadorial salary being controversially cut by Ineos.

It had been reported that the new owners are keen to limit Ferguson’s presence around the dressing room but it appears this does not extend to the manager.

Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live Amorim claimed, “I speak with Sir Alex several times. I try to call him to keep being positive.”

“It’s really good because I feel the history of the club but it’s really hard, as they did such a good job, to be the guy leading the team at this moment. It’s really hard but we have to believe.”

Sir Alex Ferguson will know all about tough starts as United manager as he famously went without a trophy in his first three and a half years at the club before winning the FA Cup in 1990.

While the results have been abysmal, nobody can criticise Amorim for a lack of confidence and fans will be relieved that he is not afraid to tap into the incredible knowledge and experience available to him by the presence of arguably the greatest manager in the history of the game.

United chiefs have made a crucial decision on Amorim’s future at United, sources claim

Manchester United are still one hundred percent behind Ruben Amorim as coach of the football club according to reports.

The Portuguese manager has only been in charge for just under two months, but there is already some uncertainty over his future.

There have been some positive results and displays such as a win at the Etihad against Manchester City and impressive draws away to Liverpool and Arsenal.

Nonetheless, this has been the exception to the norm as the club have only won three of his eleven Premier League matches in charge, losing four of the last six.

After the disappointing 1-3 defeat at home to Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend, Amorim claimed that his side is “maybe the worst United team” in history.

Despite the shocking results which sees the club sit in 13th place in the league, “Man United manager Ruben Amorim still has the full backing of club chiefs despite their worrying recent form, sources have told Football Insider.”

“United chiefs do not want to make another change so soon after working hard to convince Amorim to take up the post at Old Trafford.”

“His contract with the Red Devils runs until June 2027 and he will get time to implement his methods and ideology at the club.”

United have yet to sign anyone during Amorim’s time at the club and have a squad that is not equipped to play the style of football that he demands.

The club are in talks with Lecce over the signing of a left wing-back, Patrick Dorgu, who is theoretically more suited to the type of system that he wants to implement at Old Trafford.

What’s more, fans will demand that the Portuguese coach is given the same sort of backing in the transfer window that Erik ten Hag was, as he spent millions upon millions on numerous players.

In addition, joining during the middle of the season was always going to be a struggle and fans will surely feel that it is tough to assess Amorim until he has had at least a couple of windows and a proper pre-season under his belt.

“Club to club talks have already started:” United and Napoli in dead-heat race to sign Serie A rising star – report

Manchester United and Napoli are in a dead-heat race to sign Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu.

With Luke Shaw injured and Tyrell Malacia expected to go out on loan before the current transfer window closes, Man United manager Ruben Amorim is in dire need of reinforcements at left-back.

As such, Patrick Dorgu emerged as a suitable candidate, with United reportedly looking to sign him for a price of around €25m to €30m.

While Lecce were reportedly looking to fetch more money for the rising star, it now appears as if United have made a breakthrough in their transfer pursuit.

“More on Patrick Dorgu and Man United deal. Club to club talks have already started with Man United officials to have direct meeting with Lecce this week,” Fabrizio Romano posted on X.

“Rúben Amorim has also approved Dorgu; he’s a strong candidate on the list, as exclusively revealed two weeks ago.”

While this is positive news for United as they seek to bolster their squad, the deal is not concluded yet, with Napoli appearing poised to hijack the transfer.

Earlier, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed that Napoli are very close to signing Dorgu, with Lecce reportedly willing to strike a deal.

Still, Di Marzio noted that the race could swing in United’s favour if they decide to offer the €40m price that Lecce was seeking.

United’s interest in Dorgu, along with that of Napoli, may seem puzzling to some United fans due to Lecce’s poor performance this season. The club is currently in 17th place in Serie A, hovering above the relegation zone.

He has also only won 53% of his total duels in 20 Serie A matches, while his 78% passing accuracy also leaves a lot to be desired.

On the other hand, Dorgu has averaged 2 tackles per game, meaning that he has kept busy in Lecce’s defence. Interestingly, he has scored three goals and provided an assist in the league, meaning he actually has more attacking returns than both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund do in the Premier League. (Stats via Sofascore)

Although he may not be an elite left-back at present, Dorgu may still be a valuable asset to United, given the lack of left-back options at the club. He also seems to have an affinity for attacking, an area where United need to desperately improve.

Exclusive: Man Utd legend explains why Amorim had to throw his team under the bus with explosive comments

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown believes manager Ruben Amorim was playing one of the few cards he has at his disposal when he attempted to stir a reaction from his players by publicly humiliating them after the 3-1 home defeat against Brighton on Sunday.

Amorim’s post-match press conference after United’s latest home defeat created as many headlines as the disastrous performance of his team in front of their Old Trafford fans, as he suggested this current team may be the worst in the entire history of the club.

“We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United,” declared Amorim.

“I know you want headlines, but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that.

“I am not going to change, no matter what. I know we can succeed, but we need to survive this moment. I am not naive. We need to survive now.”

Now Brown has given his reaction to those spiky comments from Amorim, as the former defender who won five Premier League titles and two Champions League crowns during his time at United spoke exclusively to Football365.

When asked whether he agreed with Amorim’s suggestion that this is the worst United team of all-time, he gave us this response.

“If you look at where we are in the league, it is fair to say that,” he stated with NewBettingSites.uk “I can’t remember when United have been where we are now. We are struggling game in, game out.

“Okay, so we pick it up for certain games, but it is one of them that we have to accept where we are and get out of it together.

“That is what he is trying to get over to the players. This is where we are and regardless of whatever you may think, this is the situation we are and if we don’t pull out of it together, we will be here for the rest of the season.

“He is trying to get some kind of a reaction and I’m sure he is clever enough to realise that unless he can get more from them, this team are going to be in the same position all season.”

Brown went on to suggest Amorim’s brutal condemnation of his team may be evidence that he is facing up to a bigger job than he imagined at United after he agreed to succeed Erik ten Hag.

Amorim has lost seven of his first 15 matches in charge of United and Brown believes he will need a long time to get the team back on track.

“Everyone does their research before they take on a job and he knew it was going to be hard, but you never know the full story until you get there,” he added.

“He hasn’t had the chance to bring in his own players yet, so all he can do is try and get the players are already there to play as he wants them to and it won’t be easy.

“We have seen snippets of performances that have been good for 20 minutes here and there, but not consistently, as you would expect from United.

“Some individual players have stepped up at times, but it is not what he wants at this moment and he knows it will take time to get there.

“Everyone understands we have to be patient with this manager and give him some time, but we still need to win games and pick up points and win games while they are trying to make those improvements.”

Amorim’s odds of being the next Premier League manager to lose his job were slashed after Sunday’s home defeat against Brighton and the comments he offered to the media after the match.

Now he needs to get a positive reaction from his players to ensure this latest Manchester United crisis does not claim another manager in double quick time.

“No issues”: David Ornstein blows Rashford story out of the water with massive claim

Marcus Rashford is reportedly training with the main group at Manchester United and there are no major issues between Ruben Amorim and himself.

The United head coach caused a stir when he left Rashford out of the Manchester derby in mid-December and the England international has not played a minute since for the club.

The 27 year old has been linked with a move to a host of European giants including FC Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.

It has also been reported that Amorim wants the player to leave as soon as possible and is pushing for him to find a club before the end of this week.

Nonetheless, there have also been very reliable reports that Amorim and Rashford do not have a serious problem with one another and there may be an avenue back for the United academy product.

Speaking to NBC Sports, reliable journalist David Ornstein has claimed “there is still no concrete development about what is going to happen and it is hanging over United like a black cloud.”

Whilst talks are ongoing about trying to find a resolution, “he is training with the main group at Manchester United and sources close to the player claim that he is fit and available for selection.”

Interestingly, Ornstein also states that the relationship between the coach and player is far from broken.

“There are no issues between him (Rashford) and Ruben Amorim.”

This information corroborates that of The Manchester Evening News, who reported yesterday that Rashford is fit and still wants to play for the club, were Amorim to consider recalling him to the squad.

Ornstein went on to state that while United would “certainly be open to his exit for football and financial reasons” the issue could extend right up until deadline day.

The Athletic reporter stated that while Rashford did not initiate the talk of a move, if he did leave, he would only go to a situation that is right for him and his preference at the moment, would be a move to Barcelona.

Ornstein also claims that “Barcelona can afford to sign him, thanks to the sale of VIP seating at the redeveloped Camp Nou satisfying the requirements of La Liga’s 1:1 rule.”

Shock side emerging as favourites to land Rashford as they aim to “blow rivals out of water” – report

AS Monaco are reportedly emerging as frontrunners in the race for Marcus Rashford.

The Englishman has not played for Manchester United since mid-December and he has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this winter.

At first it seemed like AC Milan were favourites but they appear to have walked away from a deal after a lack of response from Rashford.

The player’s preference seems to be a move to Spain and FC Barcelona, but they are currently struggling to raise the cash for a loan deal for the forward.

This has left Borussia Dortmund as one of the clubs best positioned to do a deal. They are in “direct contact” for the player with Ruben Amorim reportedly wanting him gone this week.

Nonetheless, The Sun report that Monaco may be the new favourites for the 27 year old.

It was reported earlier that the French club were out of the race but this appears not to be the case.

“Marcus Rashford could be heading to Monaco – with the Ligue 1 side rich enough to afford the most attractive of loan deals.”

“The 27-year-old is highly likely to leave Old Trafford this month with a host of clubs interested.”

United have been close to receiving punishments for breaking PSR rules and would love to get Rashford’s massive salary off the wage bill if possible this January.

The French club may be an avenue for this as they “could be an option until the end of the season.”

The English newspaper reports “the wealthy Ligue 1 club are understood to be considering an approach and would be willing to pay most if not all of his massive weekly wage.”

If these reports are accurate, this would certainly put Monaco in a strong position to land the winger with less than two weeks of the window left.

Napoli “very close” to signing star who fans thought was about to join United – Di Marzio

Manchester United target Patrick Dorgu is reportedly very close to a move to SSC Napoli.

The Red Devils are actively looking to secure a left wing back signing now that Antony is about to join Real Betis on loan until the end of the season.

News sensationally broke yesterday that the Red Devils were in discussions with Italian side Lecce for the signing of Dorgu.

There still seemed some distance between the two sides as Lecce were demanding €40 million but United were aiming to strike a deal for between €25-30 million.

United are far from the Dane’s only admirers though as numerous Italian clubs and Tottenham Hotspur are also looking to close a deal for the exciting wing-back.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Napoli are very well positioned to sign the youngster, however.

“Napoli is looking for reinforcements for the present and the future. One of the roles in which Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club is focusing its attention is that of the wingers.”

“The will of the Campania club would be to buy [Dorgu] and leave him on loan at Lecce for the rest of the championship.”

“The parties are very close to closing but if Manchester United were to actually offer €40 million then the scenario would change.”

Di Marzio claims that despite interest, United have not actually made any formal offer for Dorgu and would need to act quickly to get a deal done.

The Red Devils have reportedly made phone calls to his agent and are one of numerous clubs who intend to meet with him within the “next few hours”.

Therefore, the door is certainly not closed to a move to Ruben Amorim’s side but it seems like they must act fast to seal the deal.

The agents of Chelsea-linked Man Utd winger Alejandro Garnacho were at Stamford Bridge to watch the Blues beat Wolves on Monday night.

Garnacho is reportedly a Chelsea transfer target, though Serie A giants Napoli are also believed to be interested.

The Naples outfit recently sold Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain for around £60million and the Man Utd forward is an option Antonio Conte is considering.

Garnacho was viewed as an ‘untouchable’ asset a year ago but Red Devils owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is now reportedly willing to listen to offers for every first-team player.

This has caught the eye of Chelsea, who probably would not have registered an interest if Ratcliffe’s stance had not changed.

Jacobs posted an image from the stands of Chelsea’s Premier League win over Wolves on Monday on social media, reporting that Garnacho’s agents Carlos Cambeiro and Quique De Lucas were in attendance.

He wrote on X: ‘Both Carlos Cambeiro and Quique De Lucas from Alejandro Garnacho’s Lead3rs agency are at Stamford Bridge this evening. Garnacho one of the options Chelsea are considering.’

Spanish journalist Eduardo Burgos shared Jacobs’ post, adding that Chelsea ‘will try to sign’ Garnacho in the January transfer window.

Burgos says Man Utd’s asking price is 70 million euros and they ‘are not negotiating’.

Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim is clearly a fan of Garnacho, starting him against Southampton last Thursday despite the persistent transfer rumours.

Amorim did drop the 20-year-old from his matchday squad for a Premier League match against Manchester City on December 15 due to his application off the pitch but the player has featured in every game since.

As touched on before, Napoli are also in the race to sign Garnacho in the winter transfer window.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on Monday that Man Utd and Napoli have ‘scheduled a meeting’ to discuss a transfer.

Di Marzio states that Man Utd officials will also discuss the transfer of wing-back Patrick Dorgu with Napoli’s Serie A rivals Lecce:

A meeting between Napoli and Manchester United is scheduled to understand the conditions of the operation for Garnacho.

The Napoli transfer market continues, which is looking for Kvaratskhelia’s replacement. In recent days, the Georgian’s move to PSG has been made official with the Azzurri now wanting to give the right replacement to Antonio Conte.

Tomorrow, January 21, Manchester United will meet Lecce as far as Dorgu is concerned. A meeting with Napoli for Garnacho is also scheduled.

The negotiation, therefore, will get underway with the Azzurri who will try to understand the conditions for the operation. The Argentine born in 2004 took part in 21 Premier League games this season in which he scored 3 goals and provided 1 assist.

Man Utd winger Alejandro Garnacho is edging closer to a move away from Old Trafford after speaking to Napoli boss Antonio Conte, according to reports.

The Red Devils have had a terrible first half of the season with Ruben Amorim unable to turn things around after replacing the sacked Erik ten Hag in November.

Amorim’s side had put a couple of good performances against Liverpool and Arsenal recently but two poor displays against Southampton – although they won 3-1 – and Brighton have squeezed the positive energy out of many Man Utd fans.

Yankuba Minteh put Brighton ahead against Man Utd at Old Trafford on Sunday before Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty to bring the Red Devils level before half-time.

But Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter scored two second-half goals to give Brighton a 3-1 win and see Man Utd remain 13th in the Premier League table.

Man Utd are hoping to provide Amorim with some reinforcements but it’s understood that they will have to sell before they buy anyone in the January transfer window.

One player who is attracting lots of interest is Garnacho with the Man Utd winger the subject of two bids from Napoli, while Tottenham are also reportedly keen on his services.

And now Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport insist that Napoli could seal a deal for Garnacho ‘in 48 hours’ as the Italian club face ‘decisive days’ in their pursuit of the Man Utd winger.

Garnacho has always been ‘first on the winter list’ after losing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain and the report has revealed that the Man Utd starlet has had a phone call from Napoli boss Conte.

                      The report adds:

‘Napoli have put 50 million euros on the table but the Red Devils, caught in the grip of Financial Fair Play, want to capitalise as much as possible on the sale of an Academy product who would be a net profit on the balance sheet and have put 60 million pounds on the table.

‘The blue club could reach 60 million euros (£50m): they could, and in any case no more. The agreement with Garnacho is close, it seems he has also spoken on the phone with Conte , while the sporting director [Giovanni] Manna will meet United in the next few hours: tomorrow, at the latest later.’

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna suggested on Saturday that they are looking to land Garnacho before the transfer deadline but only on “Napoli’s terms”.

When asked directly about a potential move for Garnacho, Manna said: “We are making some assessments, he is an important player, but he is not ours.

“We must not get carried away even if we know that an important player has left, a top player as the manager defined him and therefore the expectations are high. But we will do something on Napoli’s terms.”
