“I’m frustrated sometimes”: Amorim says he believes in his players despite “worst in history” comments

Ruben Amorim says he was talking about himself and not his players when he said this could be the worst team in United’s history.

The United head coach was speaking at the pre-match press conference this lunchtime ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League clash with Rangers tomorrow.

Amorim was asked what the player’s response had been to his angry reaction to the 1-3 loss to Brighton.

“First of all, I want to talk about that. I was talking more about myself than for my players. It’s more for me, talking more about me than the players.

“You have to look at a coach that loses eight games in the first twelve”.

“If you look around when I speak, every time you push about the players not being good enough, I take the spotlight away from my players. I understand I gave you that headline but I get frustrated sometimes.

“Sometimes it’s really hard to hide the frustration in some moments.

“They’ve trained well and they’re ready for the next game.”

Asked why he would take responsibility away from the players by blaming himself, he replied:

“I’m not taking responsibility away from the players, what I’m saying is the message you guys show was that I’m putting on the players. In this moment, we are performing really bad and our results are really bad in the moment. It’s everything together, the players, the staff, and I’m the biggest responsible for the results.

“What I’m saying is that we have to improve in the details. We are too anxious, too anxious with the ball, too nervous. And then if you have a little inexperience in this game, when you fall in this context, it’s really hard to come up, especially if you’re a massive club.

“It is what it is. Was it the right time to say it? Probably not. I’m saying I’m really direct. At the moment we are playing really bad and the results are really bad in the moment. Everything is bad, the players, the staff. I’m just saying I’m the most responsible, because I’m the coach and I have that responsibility.

Asked again about his comments about anxiety, he replied:

“I think that is clear. I could say different things and say no, no, it’s the same thing, we have the support of the fans… No. We are more nervous playing at home than away. We lost four games in five, so it’s getting harder, but we can improve. If we don’t suffer the first goal in the fourth minute, the tenth minute, the fifteenth … it’s hard. We need the first thing in my mind, they cannot score. We need to score the first goal and we’ll play better at home.

“The most important thing is to think we can improve right away in the next match. Imagine tomorrow we don’t suffer a goal at the start, we score and play well, and then we go to Fulham and we win it. It will change the environment here and everything.

“What I knew since the first day, when I arrived, I knew that changing things, we are going to suffer and for me, that was really clear. I don’t want to say it’s going to take a lot of time. Loss after loss, it’s really hard for everybody, but we can change that tomorrow.”

In response to a comment about being nervous, he said:

“I was frustrated, frustrated is not nervous. I said the team was nervous. If you say it’s good for the players to see the coach frustrated, maybe not.

“I’m being honest. If you want, I can be delusional and say different things. I see it as I saw it, it’s a good thing to be honest with you.”

“They [the players] know. If you are in the stadium, you can see it. So let’s face it and work on it. But I’m not nervous, I’m frustrated.”

Asked why he changed his methods and confronted the players immediately after the game rather than waiting until the morning, he replied.

“No I was not thinking. I’m a young guy, and sometimes I make a mistake and that’s why I usually wait.”

Asked about the possible sale of Alejandro Garnacho, he said “let’s focus on the game, I don’t want to talk about that, especially before a game.”

    On tomorrow’s opponents, Amorim said:

“We expect a tough match. A lot of physicality during the game. I know some important players for Rangers don’t play so we have to know the new players.

“The full-backs are really high and they have talent to score in the final third, so it’s one more difficult game and it’s important for us because we want to skip the [Europa League] play-off, it’s important to have time to train.

“The Rangers fans will make some noise, so we are prepared, and our fans will be prepared, we want to win.”

Asked about Rangers’ position, he noted the similarities and finished by saying “I feel for the Rangers coach.”

Man Utd star slammed for being ‘completely hopeless again’ as he looked like a ‘boy among men’

Former Man Utd player John Sivebaek has claimed that Rasmus Hojlund was “completely hopeless again” against Southampton last week.

The Red Devils signed Hojlund from Serie A side Atalanta for around £72m with the Denmark international scoring 16 goals in 43 matches in his first season at Old Trafford.

His goal return was not bad for a 21-year-old in his first season but more has been expected of the Dane this term with Man Utd struggling to score in the Premier League.

Only five Premier League clubs have scored fewer goals than Man Utd this campaign and Hojlund has managed to contribute just two goals in 17 Premier League appearances this term.

Joshua Zirkzee has also come in for plenty of criticism after signing from Bologna in the summer and there are rumours that Man Utd will look to bring in another striker into the club in January.

Zirkzee was rewarded with a start in their 3-1 loss to Brighton after proving effective off the bench as Man Utd beat Southampton 3-1 a few days before.

Hojlund was widely slammed for his display against Southampton and ex-Man Utd player Sivebaek branded his compatriot as “completely hopeless again” in the win over the Saints.

Sivebaek told Ekstra Bladet: “Should never have started [against Southampton] and apart from one good move where he set up Garnacho, he was completely hopeless again. A boy among men.

“He’s struggling. But it’s also very difficult for such a young guy. There are high expectations for him to be the new Haaland, and that’s a lot of expectations at such a young age.

“He’s playing in a team that doesn’t work, and you can’t blame him for underperforming. However, I think he works really hard for it.”

As a former Man Utd player, Sivebaek finds the Premier League’s current situation “painful” to watch with Ruben Amorim’s side currently 13th in the league table.

On the state of affairs at Old Trafford, ex-Denmark international Sivebaek added: “It is painful to look at as a former United player with the results they are making at the moment. We have been well used to it, and it is difficult to come after Sir Alex. He just won everything, and that’s hard to live up to.

“But the crisis is big. It is because everyone expects more from Manchester United. They must be at the top, also considering the money that is spent on players.”

Man Utd are a dumpster fire
Whilst I’m sure they were trolling our glorious leader, Lee obviously has a point. It really doesn’t matter for Amorim’s career if United are sh*t and he is sacked. He’ll be an even richer man and probably get a job at a better run club and be more for successful. And at this point, if he leaves United with a trophy then I’ll take that because United will be back in the Europa League or Champions League next season. Possibly from the Championship though.

(This is) Manchester United Football Club (we’re talking about) is a complete dumpster fire of a sporting entity. The roof of the stadium is leaking. Our co owner doesn’t care about the women’s team, Christmas parties or CEOs having any autonomy. Our fans are forced to endure utter dross for increasing costs due to ten years plus of mismanagement at the club. Our poster boy academy player appears to have completely given up.

We have the worst assembled, most expensive squad of footballers I’ve ever seen in the Premier League. We don’t have a left back, we don’t have any forwards who can score goals. Our goalkeeper keeps giving away goals. We have one midfielder who is capable of tackling. We have lots of expensive old players. We have lots of developing young players. We have no money to improve the squad. We don’t have enough to remove the deadwood. We have Antony.

On top of all that, unfortunately, this is still Manchester United Football Club we’re talking about so every team raises their game against us. For evidence of that look no further than Southampton who were 10 minutes away from a famous win which would’ve been their second of the season (in January!) And Brighton, who had a run of one win in nine – including a draw with Southampton – turned up at United and rolled us again. Admittedly, you probably don’t need to up your game to beat United these days but it doesn’t help when we’d just like scratch a couple of dodgy victories in a row.

And then we have to question the mentality of United players as well, able to play so well against Arsenal and Liverpool AWAY yet unable to get up for any home game. An element of that is obviously tactical – the only thing you can say the squad has been built for is transitional football – but the heart and desire in those games has been sorely missing throughout the rest of the season. It feels like our players are stealing a living.

Amorim could be sacked and leave with his reputation barely scathed. All of the above was true before he signed EXCEPT we used to lose to the big clubs regularly. If we signed him thinking this squad was capable of immediate improvement under his system then Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada need to be removed. (If they sack Amorim it will confirm that particular theory). I’m hoping they had an inkling that the squad were going to struggle (maybe not this much) but that they wanted the change as part of the implementation of the much vaunted “game model” and were prepared to take the necessary steps and deal with the inevitable pain.

Like many I’m more than happy to go through shit if we come out the other side, Andy Dufresne style. Unfortunately, given the state of the squad, it’ll be years before we know whether it was all worth it so I suspect we’re doomed to cycle through managers looking for a quick fix.

I will choose to be realistically optimistic from this point. I can think of at least two examples of managers who haven’t achieved a great deal early doors but eventually shown themselves to be good managers. One, particularly close to home, we need not remind of ourselves as his shadow looms large. The other started by taking over a side who stayed up by 5 points and changing them from a strictly counter attacking team to one who are comfortable in possession (sound familiar?). They led their team to a whopping one win in their first 11 games, with that one win coming against Burnley. Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth are now flying and a prime example of patience being a virtue.

Fingers crossed Amorim can make us half as successful in the next four months.

PS the only reason these pundits are upset about Amorim calling us “the worst United” is because he’s stolen their fun. They’ve literally said it every week since Fergie left. But notice how all these pundits are talking about the fact that he said it and not that the players are absolute shite. A classic case of manager deflecting criticism from his players. Though perhaps not so classic in that he did so by criticising them. An intriguing twist… but I have to say I avoid all punditry from Sky (especially Carragher) and Talksport. It’s all complete nonsense.

Give me Man Utd relegation; it was fun last time
It is pretty clear that United won’t be relegated this season, or at least it would be a major surprise, but it is an interesting line of thought.

I was a teenager in 1974 when we were relegated, but the rampaging Tommy Docherty inspired team at the time made it one of my fondest periods of following the Reds. I was lucky enough to have seen Best and Charlton (but sadly not Denis The King) playing during the astonishingly short 6-year period from European Cup winners to relegation, but that Second Division period and the changing of the old guard more than made up for the departure of our much-loved icons.

They were dangerous times, for sure, but being part of the Doc’s Red and White army rampaging across the country with that huge following, at the time felt free and cathartic.

Times are very different now, and relegation brings with it all the commercial self-interests of the Premier League, so it wouldn’t be like in the old days. But, in my idealistic daydreams the thought of the Glazers selling off because their off-field income was drying up, with no far east noodle partners to help line their pockets, while the diehard fans are paying reasonable ticket prices to watch a team shorn of prima donna, overpaid pantomime horses, warms my tired old heart!

Hopefully Ruben Amorim would be our new Tommy Doc and help rebuild United from the bottom up. In short, at this point I’m with the new manager – we’ve had a succession of good managers that have simply wilted, this time we need support him, and remind him (and the outside world) that Manchester United are more than just a commercial juggernaut that throws (the fans’) money at a wall hoping that some of it sticks and bumps up the share prices.

        Stop blaming Man Utd managers
As a life long Man Utd fan along with rest of family. I am constantly dismayed by the criticism of successive managers regarding the performance of the team. While I appreciate it is there job to come up with tactics and methods to beat whoever they are playing, it is the responsibility of the players to take this on board and play as asked. Our current coach, Amorim, has come to a club that has been in crisis for years. Poor signings, over paying for mediocre players and ridiculous wages has contributed.

In my opinion we have a Championship team at best. There are no world-class players in the squad, though some are paid as if they are, only in their own mind I add. If I had to select my two top Man Utd teams of all time, I would not select any player, since the Ferguson years to appear. That says it all.

Managers are constantly blamed for poor results. You cannot blame Amorim or those before for this totally and keep sacking them. Where is the player responsibility in this. There’s none! In fact I agree with the likes of Gary Neville when they say there’s no pride or passion. There’s no fight. We remember the teams under Ferguson, where old Trafford was a fortress, that’s gone. When teams played for 90 minutes plus Fergie time. When the Stratford end would chant attack, attack, attack.

The current crop of players have no idea what playing for Utd means, and are not a team. There’s no cohesion. Money grabbing pre Madonna’s. They get their pay regardless of performance. In the real world this would not be tolerated, and you’d be sacked, moved sideways. The players know this will not happen, they have too much power. If you don’t perform in training, don’t expect to play, and have wages cut!. Give them move more motivation to do their job. It’s a privilege not an expectation to play for us at Utd.

So don’t blame Amorim or other coaches, players, look in the mirror, and ask yourself, am I giving my best. I would suggest that answer would be NO. I have faith in the new owners and manager, I believe that a real shake up needs to take place. This will be painful to watch at present but given time I believe this backroom team will bring us back to where we should be. We are far far from that point, but we will return.

Let’s be pragmatic and accept at present things may not change for a couple more seasons, until we have the players who want but moreover deserve to wear the shirt and represent Manchester United.
        Graham Sacre

Where does the Man Utd rebuild begin?
In response to Matt’s article on Amorim’s recent comments in the media, I agree with the general gist about this potentially signalling the beginning of the much famed “open heart surgery”. But the proof will be in the pudding, and that involves shifting out some of Utd’s sacred cows.

The club’s willingness to offload Marcus Rashford is a huge step in the right direction. But it doesn’t go far enough. If we cast our minds back to Arsenal’s similarly-sized rebuild during the early stages of Arteta’s tenure, the club didn’t really start to move in the right direction until they bit the bullet and offloaded Aubameyang and Ozil. There were others like Pepe and Luiz, but Auba and Ozil were the big statement departures. Those two were the face of the club, the players with the big followings and the big goals/assists numbers. But they were also a poor example to the rest of the dressing room, and their playing style was at odds with what Arteta was trying to create, which was a modern, mobile and hard working style of football.

If Marcus Rashford is Man Utd’s Aubameyang, you may ask who is their Mesut Ozil? The answer is Bruno Fernandes. The player whom Utd’s team has been built around during Utd’s entire era of failure from OGS onwards. The supposed leader who is repeatedly on the receiving end of ridiculously careless red cards. The supposed playmaker who is so careless in possession he starts more counter attacks for the opposition than any of their own players. The supposed captain who spends the entire 90 minutes whinging at both the officials and his own teammates. He is also entirely unsuited to Amorim’s 343, with both the wide 10 and central midfield positions providing an awkward compromise of which he doesn’t really suit either. The comparisons with Mesut Ozil really aren’t so far fetched.

In Utd’s attempt to break away from their horrendous recent past, they have identified their Aubameyang. They now need to be brave and move on their Ozil.
        Keith B

        Groundhog Day
It’s clear that the Squad can’t play in Amorim’s preferred formation. The Board will recruit to suit the Manager and then when other teams exploit the gaps behind the wing backs he will be sacked leaving a set of players who can’t play in any other formation. It’s groundhog day in Salford.

Referee did Man Utd v Brighton
Hello F365 world, thought I would pop in to give you my take on the current bin fire at United.

Okay the Brighton game although United were awful the fact of the matter is if the referee actually did his job United would probably win quite comfortably being as they should have been playing 9 men. The first red for the from behind scissor tackle on Dalot which unbelievably wasn’t even given as a free kick let alone the actual foul and red it should have been, the second would have been for the penalty as the defender made no attempt to play the ball, WWE’d Zirkzee to the ground and if you watch the ref is actually reluctant to give a bloody penalty.

Now I’m not saying United deserved to win anything but United deserved the officials to be competent at their jobs and not the sh*tshow we have had countless times this season. Going back to the Brighton game it actually could have been eight men if the ref had sent off the Brighton defender for grabbing Garnacho by the throat right in front of him, what did the ref do? Grab the defender’s hand and take it off Garnacho’s throat, the total lack of consistency is what grinds my gears.

I trust Amorim and what he is doing and I would take relegation if it means getting rid of the toxic element in the team, ultimately though we need rid of the Glazers, the parasites who have taken out a billion quid for themselves and saddled us with millions in debt, unless they are gotten rid of then not a lot is going to change at United.

Incidentally the management team is currently trying its best to alienate the core United support putting up ticket prices, trying their level best to get in rich football tourists in their stead. A quick story from OT this week a United Season Ticket holder for 45 years with dementia who used his paper ticket rather than the electronic barcode, the reader wasn’t working so for a good few weeks the stewards let the old fella in, at the Brighton game his season ticket had been sold on by the club because he wasn’t registered as checking in for the last few games, they have also sacked all the stewards (local lads) who have worked OT for years and brought in a contract company who are causing near riots telling fans to sit down or they will be banned for life and their season ticket sold.

It all seems like a concerted effort to get rid of (what they call) legacy fans for cash rich tourists so they can boost the bank balance. United at the moment is rancid from the top down and until the head of the snake is cut off then it will continue in it’s downward spiral.

        Arsenal reasons to be cheerful
With apologies that this is yet another Arsenal mail to a no doubt weary Mailbox, I think a summary of reasons (I think) to be cheerful as an Arsenal fan more generally might go so way to a) explaining why Arteta is still by in large supported and b) things really aren’t that bad outside the microcosm of a ropey January.

        1) We’re not that bad – Arsenal aren’t where we’d like them to be this season and whilst many of us would point to bad luck as part of the mitigation, it’s clear there is a regression from the last season and a half.

But, it’s still not that bad. We’re 2nd in the league, 2nd in the xG table (even with key attackers missing this season and ‘Stoke on Thames’ ringing in our ears) and half a year removed from the best scoring Arsenal 6 months of the last 20 years.

Even better, despite the phenomenal chop and changing this season, we still have the structure and capacity of a title winning defense – offering so little in terms of chance to opposition that we end up situations where all goals conceded come from crazy high difficulty levels.

        2) Easy to see how we could improve – Obviously the old adage, all we need is a striker, etc etc. Key point, there is complete confidence this will happen, if not in January (and please god it does), then in the summer. Also in the summer, a lot of deadwood on very high wages (or worse, in the case of a certain player virtually the whole fan base wants gone with good reason) will be out the door and budget (because yes, we’ve spent a ton, but we’re not taking the piss like Chelsea or United have, we’re doing this by the PSR book) can go on those few positions we need a clear upgrade on, and more on younger squad players to add depth/potential.

        3) Huge Potential – separated from above, so much of Arsenal’s squad is still entering their prime/could improve further and we have some exceptionally talented youngsters who will push further for inclusion. What’s more, there’s no guarantee of City’s revival being assured (more recent transfer moves from them haven’t been that great), Liverpool are really relying on two players having exceptional Indian summers (who may not even be around next year) to be a level above us right now, still unconvinced with Chelsea manager/project and United are in complete teardown. So we should be title challenging (and maybe getting a few more breaks) for several seasons to come.

        4) Arteta is really good – Okay, clearly at this point trying to convince anyone in the Mailbox Arteta isn’t that bad a bloke is futile – his genuine nature plus I believe heavy media legwork to vilify him for ‘the narrative’ has done the job. But within the game, everyone who works with him or plays for him really likes him and thinks he’s exceptional, he is the reason players sign for us and he is as forward thinking and dynamic manager as there is (bringing in data, innovating with coaches and tactics etc).

Is he a bit conservative/control-oriented in his tactical outlook by nature? Possibly, but I don’t know right now there is as good on the fundamentals that make our floor so high and also has more attacking flair. Again, we are just 6 months removed from an Arsenal team that went 16-1-1 scoring 54 goals in the process. 13 league losses in 2 and 1/2 seasons – the same as we had in 2021-22 alone (and only one more than Spurs have had this season SO FAR). This squad has the players to create and score in exceptional qualities if they are all fit and that is before we spend proper money on a good centre forward.

So yeh, there is so much to be positive about even if this season doesn’t end as we want (and it’s still going, not over until fat lady sings etc; we could have most of our team back and fit + a new forward at the business end of season which means CL success is as likely as it has ever been).

This is why trying to blow it all up and take a punt on someone else is clear madness (and again, who? Who makes Arsenal better? Who can guarantee a better position finish than 2nd?). As is asking questions like ‘Is this Arteta’s ceiling?’. How about we wait to see how this season pans out? And what he does to rectify any failings.
Tom, (Clearly people’s minds re. what fans should expect from a great team have been slightly melted by City’s corrupt dominance and (to a lesser extend) an astonishing Liverpool team that married unmatched fortune and quality in the transfer market between 2013-2018 with an all-time great coach) Leyton

Blockbuster update from Spain: United “preparing significant offer” to land Real Madrid genius this month

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim’s system is unlike what the players have experienced in recent years and it is clear to see with the team losing seven out of 15 since his arrival.

INEOS and the Glazers before them have assembled this big-money squad to play transition-based football with fast wingers capable of hurting the opposition on the break.

While the Portuguese wants his players to keep the ball and use wingbacks for width while playing two No 10s alongside the striker.

The club is full of inconsistent wingers and judging from the January window, it seems INEOS is being forced to course correct with Amorim desperate to reinforcements as he seeks to avoid a relegation scrap.

Amorim’s system demands attacking midfielders instead of wingers

Antony is expected to join Real Betis on loan while Marcus Rashford and Barcelona are in talks over a loan move with Borussia Dortmund also lurking.

Surprisingly, Alejandro Garnacho also seems to be heading to Napoli as things stand with Amorim demanding more attacking midfielders instead of wingers.

Fichajes have claimed Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz has emerged as an option with the report claiming Amorim is an admirer of the Moroccan’s versatility.

The 25-year-old can play out wide as well as a No 10 and even in a withdrawn forward role so he can fit in multiple ways into Amorim’s systems.

He has three goals and five assists this term but has started only seven times in La Liga and the lure of playing regular football at the Theatre of Dreams could be hard to turn down for a rotation player at Real.

While no concrete figures have been suggested in the report, Fichajes have claimed the Red Devils are prepared to make a significant offer to land the former Manchester City academy star in this window.

“Brahim Díaz, one of the most talented promises of Real Madrid, is on the radar of Manchester United, which sees the player as a top reinforcement.

          Brahim Diaz on United’s radar

“At 25 years old, the international with Morocco has shown his ability to make a difference on the field, but his future with the white team does not seem entirely defined.

“The English club is preparing a significant offer to secure his services in this transfer market. United’s interest is not new, but discussions could accelerate in the coming days.

“The coach of the “Red Devils” values the player’s versatile profile, able to adapt to different attacking positions and create imbalance against tight defenses.”

Diaz has a market value of 35 million as per Transfermarkt and Los Blancos could ask for a lot more to part ways midseason.

Garnacho’s sale could hand United the money needed to complete the deal but INEOS are better served utilising that money elsewhere with Amorim’s squad crying out for a ruthless striker.

Man Utd strike ‘agreement’ for first summer signing as Serie A side angle for ‘loan until June’

Man Utd strike ‘agreement’ for first summer signing as Serie A side angle for ‘loan until June’

Man Utd have a ‘basic agreement’ in place to sign Patrick Dorgu as they continue to haggle over the details of a transfer with Lecce, according to reports.

The Red Devils are crying out for reinforcements after Ruben Amorim branded his squad as “maybe the worst team in the history” of Man Utd.

Amorim’s comments came after Man Utd lost 3-1 to Brighton at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday with the Red Devils 13th in the table after 22 matches.

Despite encouraging performances against Liverpool and Arsenal earlier this month, the signs have not been good in their last two matches that Amorim’s players are understanding what their coach wants from them.

And now Man Utd are clearly attempting to bring in new players that will compliment Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation and start helping the Red Devils move forward.

One position Amorim is desperate to improve is left wing-back with Tyrell Malacia and the injury-prone Luke Shaw their main options there, while Diogo Dalot has been known to cover on the left too.

Lecce’s Dorgu has emerged as their main target in that position with Man Utd meeting the Serie A side to discuss a potential transfer on Tuesday.

And now Lecce president Sticchi Damiani revealed that the meeting between both parties “went well” in an interview with Sky Italia.

Damiani said: “The meeting went well, it was a cordial meeting. For us it is a satisfaction to sit at the table with Manchester United and talk about a player who comes from our Primavera. It means that it is a significant growth path for the club and we are very happy about it.”

He revealed that Lecce’s preference is to keep Dorgu until the end of the season: “We have explained to Manchester that our desire at the moment is to try to keep our squad unchanged, keeping all the big names, especially Dorgu.”

Damiani added: “We tried to make it clear that for us it is an important appointment with the history this year. We could reach the third historic salvation. Although we are flattered by the offer from Manchester, for us the priority is the sporting result which is fundamental.”

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Man Utd have now made a ‘formal bid’ for Dorgu but that it’s still some way short of Lecce’s asking price.

Romano wrote on X: ‘Manchester United formal bid for Patrick Dorgu was worth €27m plus add-ons, not enough to convince Lecce. Price tag around €40m package as Lecce are also aware of Napoli’s interest for the summer. Dorgu, keen on the move as more contacts are expected between clubs.’

And now Corriere dello Sport, (via PianetaLecce) claim that Man Utd have ‘already found an agreement’ with Denmark international Dorgu.

            The report adds:

‘Sticchi Damiani said it clearly: the big names are not moving. But behind the scenes information is emerging about the negotiations between Lecce and Manchester United for Patrick Dorgu. The offer formalized yesterday is said to be 30 million + 5 in bonuses. Lecce’s request? 40 but above all the possibility of keeping the boy on loan until June. The boy’s entourage, on the other hand, already has a basic agreement with the Red Devils.’

Fabrizio Romano – Lecce “submit official bid” which will have major impact on United’s pursuit of Dorgu

Lecce have submitted an “official bid” for a new fullback as negotiations continue with Manchester United over the transfer of wingback Patrick Dorgu.

Fabrizio Romano reveals the Serie A side have tabled an offer for Danilo Veiga – a 22-year-old defender for Estrela Amadora in Liga Portugal – amid reports indicating the Red Devils had seen their own bid for Dorgu rejected.

However, as relayed by The Peoples Person, talks between United and Lecce will continue with the prospect of a second offer this week.

The Italian club are believed to be holding out for €40 million (£34 million) while their Manchester counterparts’ opening proposal was worth €27 million with add-ons.

Serie A table toppers Napoli are also interested in Dorgu, explaining why Lecce are adamant they will not budge on their valuation as they hope to establish a bidding war between the two continental heavyweights.

An agreement between Dorgu and United is expected to be a formality with the Danish international open to a move to Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim is also reported to have given his approval for the Reds to target the 20-year-old starlet as officials seek to buttress the Portuguese coach’s squad with a much-needed option at left wingback.

And Romano’s update that Lecce are intent on signing a new fullback this month, with a comparable level of positional versatility to Dorgu, suggests Amorim may be moving closer and closer to finding his new option on the left.

Tweet: “Lecce have submitted an official bid for Estrela Amadora’s fullback Danilo Veiga. Portugal U21 talent also in the list of Sporting CP and Braga, Lecce now in direct club to club talks.”

The Italian transfer guru reveals Lecce have “submitted an official bid” for Veiga – a Portugal U21 fullback  also capable of playing in midfield – who is wanted by Liga Portugal giants’ Sporting CP and Braga; ironically, both former clubs of Amorim.

The Serie A side are “now in direct club to club talks” with Estrela Amadora, indicating a strong intention to agree a move before the transfer window closes.

And this bodes well for United’s chances of striking their own deal for Dorgu as Lecce look to sign a potential replacement for the 20-year-old to soften the blow of his departure.

Man Utd draw up four-man striker shortlist with January signing ‘expected’ if one of three stars are sold

Man Utd are likely to add a new striker to their ranks before the end of the January transfer window if they sell one of three players, according to reports.

The Red Devils are having a nightmare season with their 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday leaving them 13th in the Premier League table.

Impressive performances against Liverpool and Arsenal earlier this month were soon forgotten with two poor displays in their last two matches against Southampton – who they managed to beat 3-1 – and Brighton.

Ruben Amorim isn’t doing any better than his predecessor Erik ten Hag with the new Portuguese head coach only managing three wins in 11 Premier League matches since joining Man Utd in November.

And now Man Utd are considering ways in which they can help improve Amorim’s squad in the January transfer window with the Red Devils boss struggling for players suited to his formation and style of play.

Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo are among the players linked with a winter exit as the Red Devils consider selling one of their academy graduates.

And now the Daily Mail claim that Man Utd have compiled a shortlist of four strikers with one expected to arrive if they sell Garnacho, Mainoo or Rashford before the deadline this month.

                The report claims:

‘Expect Manchester United to move for a new striker before the end of the transfer window if Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford or Kobbie Mainoo leave Old Trafford by deadline day.

‘United have drawn up a list of striker targets after lining up a move for Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu in the hope of filling their two priority positions in this window.

‘Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha of Wolves, Ipswich centre-forward Liam Delap and Jonathan David, the Lille striker who has been on United’s radar for some time, are all being tracked by club scouts.

‘But United need to be sure of moving players out before they can bring any in, and homegrown stars Garnacho and Mainoo would generate by far the most profit under FFP rules, as previously revealed by Confidential.

‘Shifting Rashford’s £315,000-a-week salary off the wage bill would also give United extra room for manoeuvre, although sources say there is no guarantee of any new signings.

‘Garnacho appears the most likely to go as Chelsea and Napoli lead the chase for the young Argentina winger. Garnacho’s representatives were at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, and Napoli are expected to hold further talks with United on Tuesday after coach Antonio Conte spoke to the player personally.’

Erik ten Hag favourite to land elite management job, could have huge impact on United’s January plans – report

Manchester United parted ways with Erik ten Hag last October after a disastrous start to the season left the club languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Unfortunately for United, things haven’t improved under Ruben Amorim with the new head coach struggling to get his message across to the players Ten Hag left behind.

Since his sacking, Ten Hag has been linked with numerous roles but is yet to make his return to the touchline.

However, as reported by The Mirror, the 54-year-old’s hiatus could be about to come to an end, given events in Germany this week.

Borussia Dortmund’s loss to Bologna in the Champions League proved the last straw for the board who have since relieved Nuri Sahin of his duties at the club.

Dortmund Director, Lars Ricken said he has “lost faith” in Sahin’s ability to get the best out of the side and claims the decision to pull the trigger was “unavoidable.”

Ten Hag is now the bookies’ favourite to replace the Turk, who leaves Dortmund after a wretched run of four defeats on the spin.

Should Ten Hag take the job he will find BVB in a similar position to how he left United – in the wrong half of the table and struggling for form.

It’s reported Ten Hag has a ‘very good’ relationship with Dortmund advisor Matthias Sammer, which could prove pivotal in the final decision on Sahin’s replacement.

Another interesting subplot to the move would be the impact on the future of Marcus Rashford, who has been linked with a switch to the German side this month.

Rashford enjoyed his best spell in a United shirt under the guidance of Ten Hag and Dortmund chiefs could be persuaded to loosen their purse strings given the potential in reuniting the duo.

However, the pair did have their issues at Old Trafford and Ten Hag will be best placed to inform the club as to whether a deal would be worth pursuing.

Despite his turbulent spell at United, there is no doubt Ten Hag is a talented coach with a string of high profile managers failing to perform under the current conditions at Old Trafford.

Furthermore, the Bundesliga may well be better suited to the Dutchman’s style of play with the frantic nature of English football proving too much for Ten Hag at times.

No formal offer has been made by the Germans as things stand, but with the Bundesliga now back in full swing after the winter break, developments are expected in the coming days.

Manchester United have seen their opening bid for Lecce wingback Patrick Dorgu rejected by the Serie A side but there are “more contacts expected” between both clubs, Fabrizio Romano reveals.

The Italian transfer guru contends the Red Devils tabled an offer worth “€27 million plus add-ons” – equating to a fee in excess of £23 million.

However, Lecce are holding out for a package worth in the region of €40 million (£34 million) as there is also strong interest in Dorgu from Serie A league leaders Napoli.

Lecce officials will be acutely aware of the financial capabilities of their 20-year-old starlet’s suitors, and will likely seek to establish a bidding war between them to drive up their price.

🚨🇩🇰 Manchester United formal bid for Patrick Dorgu was worth €27m plus add-ons, not enough to convince Lecce.

Price tag around €40m package as Lecce are also aware of Napoli’s interest for the summer.

Romano describes Dorgu as “keen on the move” to Old Trafford with head coach Ruben Amorim believed to have personally signed off on the Danish international as a target.

Dorgu’s potent pairing of pace and physicality lends itself to the Portuguese’s high-intensity pressing philosophy, while his versatility – capable of playing at left back, left wingback and right wing – is ideal in the 39-year-old’s 3-4-3 system.

Amorim has struggled to find a suitable candidate to play the LWB role since arriving at Old Trafford in November. Neither of the existing options on the left-side of defence – Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia – are capable of meeting the former Sporting manager’s demands from his wingbacks.

This has led Amorim to deploy his countryman Diogo Dalot on the 25-year-old’s unfamiliar side. And despite Dalot’s commitment and work rate, the right back has struggled on the left to provide a constant outlet down the opposition wing on his weaker foot.

A new recruit at LWB is, therefore, a priority for United officials aiming to provide Amorim with as many tools as the club’s financial situation will allow to rescue a dismal season.

If United can drive down the price for Dorgu to a fee much closer to their €27 million valuation, rather than Lecce’s €40 million price, then the 20-year-old could be set to become the third Dane in the dressing room at Old Trafford, alongside Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen.

Amorim will not care about his nationality, however, instead valuing his natural fit at left wingback and the 20-year-old’s speed and strength to be able to affect the game at both ends of the pitch.

Napoli have made an official bid for Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, but it falls well below United’s asking price.

United are desperate to raise funds for new signings while complying with Profit and Sustainability Rules, so they are reluctantly considering selling the talented Argentinian.

The Red Devils are believed to be looking for a minimum of €65 million, reduced from €75 million.

Yesterday Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio claimed that Napoli were willing to pay €50-€55 million.

However, a fresh update today from another Italian guru, Fabrizio Romano, claims the formal bid lodged by the Serie A side is lower than that and that it has already been rejected by United.

“Napoli’s opening bid for Alejandro Garnacho worth €50m package add-ons included; Man United want more,” Romano posted on X this morning.

“Antonio Conte keeps pushing after the call with Garnacho on Friday.”

While the base figure is not disclosed, most United fans would probably agree that in pounds, a £42 million total package sounds very low for a player with Garnacho’s ability and potential.

Meanwhile, Romano adds that “Chelsea made contact with United and player side, now deciding internally whether to bid or not.”

The Blues already have a United left winger, Jadon Sancho, on loan with compulsory purchase at the end of the season.

However, with a potential four-year ban hanging over the head of Mykhailo Mudryk for a drugs offence, they are clearly keen to bolster their ranks in that position.

Chelsea have also been linked with yet another United left winger, Marcus Rashford, although it has been reported that United’s part-owners Ineos have refused to sanction a move to a Premier League rival.

Whether they would agree to the sale of Garnacho to the same league is unknown at this time.
