European giants plotting to hijack United’s deal for Amorim’s top January target – report

Manchester United’s pursuit of Patrick Dorgu could be under threat from Juventus.

The Red Devils have been searching for improvements in the left wing-back department and it seems they have settled on Dorgu as the man to fill the void.

Ruben Amorim’s side have already had a couple of bids rejected for the Lecce defender but continue to hold talks with the Serie A side to find a solution.

It is thought that United are not too far away from Lecce’s valuation as they are only €5 million apart.

Nonetheless, United are not the only team interested in the wing-back as SSC Napoli are also keen on signing him in the summer.

La Gazzetta dello Sport are now reporting that United could face more competition for the Danish international.

The Italian paper reports that Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli “in the last few hours has reportedly made significant moves on the trail of the Lecce winger.”

“The Bianconeri club is moving under the radar so as not to be caught unprepared in the face of Andrea Cambiaso’s possible departure at the end of the January transfer window.”

The outlet admits that while talks are well underway between United and Lecce for Dorgu, “Juve could forcefully enter the scene.”

If Cambiaso were to leave, Dorgu would be an attractive option to replace him due to his familiarity with Serie A.

Lecce are unwilling to give any discounts on Dorgu and while United are making progress, Juventus are “lurking” if the Red Devils are unsuccessful in their attempts to sign the 20 year old.

With three goals this season, the Dane would certainly add an extra attacking dimension to United’s left hand side.

United star complains his two struggling teammates “have to do better” to solve Amorim’s biggest headache

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has insisted that Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are not to blame for the team’s goalscoring woes as he admitted that the onus is on the rest of the squad to create chances for them.

Hojlund and Zirkzee have been far from convincing this season, with neither player showing they can be relied upon to lead the line for United.

Against Fulham on Sunday, Hojlund started and was undoubtedly the worst player on the pitch as the Red Devils cruised to a 1-0 victory.

Zirkzee came on in the second half but wasn’t a significant improvement on the Denmark international.

Between them, they have five league goals in 41 combined games. Hojlund hasn’t found the back of the net in his last 14 top-flight appearances while Zirkee’s brace against Everton on December 1 remains his only goalscoring appearance in the competition since a fairytale debut back in August.

According to Martinez – who scored United’s only goal at Craven Cottage – the two strikers are not to blame.

Martinez however admitted that the pair need to do a lot better than they currently are.

The Argentine told reporters [via 90min], “Absolutely, we take the responsibility. I think we played many long balls to [Hojlund and Zirkzee], and for sure it’s tough for them, especially because they fight against two centre-backs.”

“The centre-backs here in the Premier League are really difficult.”

“[Hojlund and Zirkzee] have to do better as well. They are really good players, but I think we have to continue [to do] more, and put them in better spaces on the pitch.”

The World Cup winner added, “We have to find them in the right places, dangerous places, to make them score.”

United are believed to be keen on signing a new striker, most likely during the summer transfer window.

Some of the players linked to the Red Devils include Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Liam Delap.

Man Utd ‘offer’ £12.6m signing bonus to £39m ‘hot potato’; ‘ask him to reject all proposals’ from Barcelona

Man Utd have offered Frenkie de Jong a huge signing bonus to leave La Liga giants Barcelona for Old Trafford, according to reports.

The Red Devils sacked Erik ten Hag at the end of October after Man Utd made a terrible start to the new campaign with three wins from their first ten matches in the Premier League.

Man Utd moved quickly to appoint Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim – who had been linked with a number of other Premier League clubs – with the Portuguese coach joining on November 11.

Ten Hag was known for buying a number of players who had played under him at Ajax with Andre Onana, Matthijs De Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Noussair Mazraoui all signing.

Netherlands internationals Joshua Zirkzee and Tyrell Malacia were also signed by Ten Hag and there were rumours throughout his tenure that he wanted to sign another compatriot in the form of Barcelona midfielder De Jong.

However, a move for De Jong never materialised because the Dutchman made it clear that he wanted to remain at the Camp Nou with Man Utd struggling to attract the top players to Old Trafford.

A previous report has described De Jong as a ‘hot potato’ at the Camp Nou with the Barcelona’s future always up in the air after making just two La Liga starts under Hansi Flick this term.

And now a report in Spain has claimed that Man Utd ‘are still keeping their eyes’ on De Jong and ‘is still considered an interesting signing for the board’ despite Ten Hag’s departure.

Amorim now ‘believes that he could be a very useful reinforcement’ and Barcelona president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco have decided that the ‘best thing for everyone’ would be for De Jong ‘ to leave Camp Nou soon’.

But because his contract runs out in 18 months, the report adds that Barcelona ‘will have to settle for a really low compensation, of around 45 million euros (£39m) at most.’

Barcelona have ‘even considered the idea of offering him a renewal’ to get more value for the Netherlands international but De Jong ‘does not want to sign anything, and his strategy consists of waiting for his contract to expire’.

Man Utd ‘have already contacted’ the Barcelona midfielder’s agent to ‘ask him to reject all the proposals that Laporta and Deco present to him, and to leave Barca completely free.’

They have ‘offered’ De Jong a ‘signing bonus’ of €15m (£12.6m) if he follows through and joins on a free transfer and that would allow Man Utd to ‘maintain an incredibly high salary’.

Family of incredible talent pushing for “life changing” move to United – report

Patrick Dorgu’s family is reportedly in Salento to push for a move to Manchester United amid Lecce’s reluctance to part ways with their star man.

Lecce have endured a tough season in Italy’s top flight, as they sit 17th in the Serie A table, just a point above the relegation zone. However, Dorgu, who moved to Lecce from Nordsjælland in 2022, has been a real bright spot for them.

The Dane, regarded as one of the most exciting talents in Italy at the moment, has been a key player for the Giallorossi, delivering impressive performances as a left-back, left wing-back, left-winger, right-winger, and right-back.

His versatility, pace, and impeccable positional awareness have made him one of the first names on Marco Giampaolo’s teamsheet. The 20-year-old has made 23 appearances across all competitions and boasts three goals and an assist.

Dorgu’s form has attracted interest from a number of clubs, including United, who have already seen their bid for the player turned down.

Lecce are playing hardball over their valuation, as they aren’t too keen on losing one of their most important players in the midst of a relegation battle.

However, it appears Dorgu’s camp is determined to see him at the Theatre of Dreams.

According to SoloLecce (via Sport Witness), the youngster’s “entire family” has been in Salento since Thursday. It is underlined that this isn’t the norm for him.

Further, it is believed that the player’s parents are pushing for the move which would be “life changing” for Dorgu.

His arrival could prove to be game changing for Ruben Amorim, who is crying for a quality left wing-back, with his current options, including Tyrell Malacia, failing to step up.

The Portuguese’s 3-4-3 system relies heavily on wing-backs to create width and make a difference in the final third.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United remain in talks with Lecce as they are working on lodging an improved bid for their priority transfer target. It is added that Dorgu has already agreed “terms” to move to Old Trafford.

Italian rivals put on red-alert for United flop with INEOS “prepared to offload” this month – ESPN

Manchester United are reportedly open to selling Rasmus Hojlund in the January transfer window with the club facing a “big loss” should the Dane depart Old Trafford.

Mark Ogden (ESPN) reveals the Red Devils are “prepared to offload” the 21-year-old striker this month – or “at the end of the season” – if a suitable offer arrives.

However, the reporter contends, United will incur a significant financial hit as any offer for Hojlund won’t come close to the “initial €75 million” fee the club agreed to sign him from Atalanta in 2023.

While there were bright sparks in Hojlund’s debut season at Old Trafford following this blockbuster move from Serie A, the Dane’s regression this season has been stark with the United fanbase growing exasperated by his performances (or lack thereof) under Ruben Amorim.

Hojlund’s link-up play, which was not strong last year, has reached an all-time low this campaign. In the first-half against Fulham last night, the 21-year-old was dominated by the opposition centre-halves, losing the ball on virtually every occasion he touched it.

It makes it impossible for United to progress play up the pitch as the centre-forward – a key conduit for build-up in a 3-4-3 system – is constantly yielding possession, rather than enabling his teammates to move towards the opposition box with the ball.

Ogden brutally concludes, Hojlund is “struggl[ing] to look anything like a Premier League striker” – let alone of the most expensive ones in the division’s history.

However, the ESPN reporter reveals Hojlund’s reputation in Italy “remains healthy” due to the “potential he showed at Atalanta.” This means Serie A giants, Juventus and AC Milan, retain an interest in the Dane and both “could move for the youngster if they fail to land their preferred options.”

There is also “some interest” in Hojlund from the Bundesliga, though Ogden does not reveal which German clubs are potential suitors for the 21-year-old.

Regardless, United “aren’t being overwhelmed with offers” for the striker and it’s extremely unlikely any team would table an offer the Red Devils would consider acceptable. The fact that the club would be open to Hojlund’s departure is a significant shift, however.

Last season the Danish international was internally considered an ‘untouchable’; this year, United would actively entertain offers for an exit. Things change quickly within the world of football.

Perhaps if Hojlund could demonstrate a better touch on the pitch for the remainder of the season, Old Trafford officials may reinstate his untouchable status off it before the summer window opens. If not, the Dane may simply join a long list of players to be sold for a fee dwarfed by the one United paid in to bring them to the club in the first place.

United prepared to sextuple wonderkid’s wages, offering five-year deal with an option for another year – report

Manchester United huffed and puffed their way to a 1-0 win against Fulham away at Craven Cottage on Sunday but familiar issues still remain.

Most notably at left wingback with Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot occupying the role at different intervals during the game. While both tried hard, neither could excel.

Ruben Amorim’s system employs wingbacks to add width and attacking thrust up front, something both United stars have been unable to provide, which is natural given they are traditional full-backs by trade.

Which is why the head coach has demanded INEOS to bring in Patrick Dorgu of Lecce but so far, there remains a deadlock between both clubs owing to the player’s price.

              Dorgu chase on

The Red Devils had seen their second bid in the region of €30 million get rejected with the Italian side holding out for €40 million.

Lecce officials had already revealed that they were trying their best to hold on to the Denmark international and it made sense given his importance to the team and the fact that the club was fighting a relegation battle.

🚨 #MUFC increasingly confident in sealing a deal for Patrick Dorgu.

Personal terms for five years with an option for another, with the player to earn in the region of £3.3 million PA.

              €3 to 4M in add-ons may prove sufficient for #Lecce https://t.co/kkich7dwGe

              — Shaun Connolly (@shaunconnolly85) January 27, 2025

Rumours had surfaced claiming that the Old Trafford side were ready to move on and target former academy graduate Alvaro Carreras instead, owing to the club’s buyback clause.

But Theatre of Red‘s Shaun Connolly has claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that United are increasingly confident that a deal can be agreed with Lecce with the addition of €3-€4 million in add-ons.

Huge wage rise on the cards

He also revealed that INEOS were prepared to sextuple Dorgu’s wages. The 20-year-old currently earns around €12,500 gross per week (via capology) at the Stadio Via del mare.

And the 20-time English league champions are willing to offer him £63,000-per-week or £3.3 million per year, a huge rise which is bound to turn his head.

INEOS will offer the versatile wingback a five-year deal with the option of another year, which means he will be in Manchester until 2031.

Despite their public stance, Lecce must be slowly coming to terms with their talisman’s departure, which is why they are closing in on a replacement. All signs point towards Dorgu’s imminent arrival at the Theatre of Dreams.

Man Utd transfer collapse? Amorim target urged to ‘choose something else’ amid lack of ‘structure’

A former coach of Man Utd transfer target Patrick Dorgu has made the “cheeky” admission that he does not want the wing-back to join the Red Devils.

Dorgu is expected to be Ruben Amorim’s first signing as Man Utd head coach, with Serie A outfit Lecce reportedly requesting £34million for the Danish international.

The 20-year-old is a versatile wing-back with great height, strength and pace, and would likely slot straight in as Amorim’s first-choice left-wing-back if signed this month.

The Red Devils have reportedly failed with two bids for Dorgu but are poised to make a third approach this week.

Dorgu has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Premier League giants, meaning his final match for Lecce could be Sunday’s 4-0 home defeat to Inter.

The youngster has been given a glowing review from his former Denmark Under-19s coach Jens Olsen, who says he is a “fast, forward-thinking” modern wing-back.

“You could say that it’s a very good picture of what football is like and how it may have developed,” Olsen told Tipsbladet.

“The thing is that there are many paths to the goal.

“Patrick left North Zealand and went to a slightly smaller place in Italy and took the chance there, where he has been really well-educated, especially in the defensive part of the game, where he may have lacked something at Lecce.

“I was really happy with him. I think he had some exciting skills. I had him on the national team, and he stuck with it pretty quickly.

“Patrick is fast, he is forward-thinking, he can head both offensively and defensively, and he has a very, very good left foot.

“He is a creative player who can also play on the pitch and solve some things. I am incredibly happy that I brought him in and just believed in him in that situation, and I am really happy for him, in terms of how his career has developed.”

However, Olsen believes such a promising player should avoid going to Man Utd due to their lack of “structure”.

“If I have to be a little cheeky, I hope he chooses something other than Manchester United right now,” he added.

“I don’t know if it’s a bad fit, but they’re just in a period where… I don’t know if you can afford to say no to United, but maybe somewhere where there’s a little more structure and where things fit in with his pace.

“Sometimes things have to go in the right order, if you can say it like that.”

His performance against Inter, however, did not garner similar praise.

Italian website Tuttomercatoweb gave Dorgu a 4.5 out of 10 rating and picked him out for ‘one mistake after another’ against the Serie A champions.

‘United want to take him to the Premier League, this unfortunate evening is not the best spot to sell him. He pushes, but in the back he makes one mistake after another: the one on the Nerazzurri’s second goal was a serious one,’ they wrote.

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – now at Besiktas in Turkey – has requested the signing of Casemiro, according to reports.

Casemiro was expected to leave Man Utd last summer amidst interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

A transfer never came to fruition and the Brazilian has been used sparingly this season.

The 32-year-old made 10 of his 14 Premier League appearances in 2024/25 under Erik ten Hag, starting three times since Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

Amorim also has not handed him minutes in recent Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup fixtures.

A January exit felt inevitable going into the window, but with days left, it would not be a surprise to see Casemiro stay until the end of the season.

Saudi interest has gone quiet but there is reportedly an opportunity to move to Turkey, with ex-Man Utd boss Solskjaer interested in signing Casemiro for Besiktas.

Solskjaer recently replaced former Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst at the Super Lig club, finally taking on his first managerial role since being sacked by the Red Devils in November 2021.

According to reports in Spain, Solskjaer ‘is asking for the signing’ of Casemiro, who would replace Moatasem Al-Musrati in defensive midfield due to his ‘poor performance’.

Al-Musrati joined the club last January and has partnered former Tottenham player Gedson Fernandes in midfield, but Solskjaer has seen enough and wants to sign the five-time Champions League winner.

The report touches on reported interest from Besiktas in Marcus Rashford, but the player ‘is not thinking about going to play in Turkey’.

One of Solskjaer’s players, Semih Kilicsoy, has been linked with a move to Championship side Sunderland this month.

The 19-year-old attacker is reportedly worth around £20million and is also attracting interest from Dutch giants Ajax.

Solskjaer recently quashed talk of an exit, saying: “Semih is a top-level centre forward. Ciro [Immobile] was injured before Christmas, so we have to be careful.”

Marcus Rashford is reportedly willing to lower his wages to help force through a move from Manchester United on loan to Barcelona, according to a report from Spain.

Marca journalist Luis Rojo reveals Rashford is “willing to lower his salary to sign for Barcelona” with United remaining open to the 27-year-old’s departure this month, after he was ostracised from the first-team squad by Ruben Amorim.

Rojo describes this move by Rashford as him “tak[ing] a step”, suggesting the forward’s willingness to compromise on his wage packet could prove decisive to a potential exit from Old Trafford.

Sky Sports contend Barcelona are “struggling to create salary space”, despite El Blaugrana’s interest in buttressing Hansi Flick’s forward line with a loan move for Rashford.

The United star signed a £325,000-a-week deal in 2023 following an imperious 2022/23 campaign during Erik ten Hag’s first season at Old Trafford.

However, this new contract has been followed by eighteen months of dismal form by the forward, marred by continuous criticisms of attitude and application in training and matches and poor behaviour off the pitch.

Amorim has wasted no time in stamping his authority over his new squad by dropping Rashford, along with fellow attacker Alejandro Garnacho, for the Manchester Derby – a match United emerged as sensational last-minute winners at the Etihad.

And while Garnacho has subsequently been reinstated into the first-team, with Amorim praising his improved work rate and willingness to learn, Rashford continues to be excluded, with the Portuguese coach stating the Englishman is not training well enough.

Sky Sports reveals Barcelona are “yet to make any formal arrangements” to sign the 27-year-old on loan, but the prospect of Rashford being willing to be flexible on his exorbitant wage packet will undoubtedly help these efforts should the Liga side choose to.

The financial situation at Old Trafford is a precarious one with INEOS seeking to save every single penny ahead of the summer transfer window.

If United were able to send Rashford on loan for five months, while only having to pay half of his wage packet (whether through Barcelona covering it or the 27-year-old lowering his wages) it would constitute a saving of nearly £3 million.

It’s evident each major player within this potential loan are open to it, whether it’s United or Barcelona, or Amorin or Rashford. And usually when a move has every party pulling for its completion, a deal gets done.

Napoli are “set to resume talks” with Manchester United over signing Alejandro Garnacho as the January transfer window enters its final week, a report from Sky Sports has revealed.

The Serie A leaders identified the Argentinian winger as their “number one target” to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in a €70 million move.

The financial situation at Old Trafford, driven by acute concerns over profits and sustainability rules (PSR), means United would be reluctantly open to Garnacho’s departure, should a suitable offer arrive.

Reports suggest the club value their 20-year-old winger in a similar vein to Kvaratskhelia – the €70 million mark. However, other reports contended United would be willing to compromise on this price given the Red Devils’ need to invest in new signings themselves this month.

Napoli saw an official offer worth €50 million (including add-ons) rejected by Old Trafford officials, indicating the club were willing to hold firm over their valuation.

In response, Napoli’s sporting director Giovanni Manna publicly revealed the Italian club “certainly will not pay prices that are outside the market value.”

At a similar time, Napoli also entered talks with Borussia Dortmund to sign Karim Adeyemi with reports suggesting a deal was close between the two clubs for a package worth around €40 million on the table.

However, Sky Sports now report the Serie A side want to re-enter negotiations with United for Garnacho, revealing a renewed desire to close a deal for the Argentine winger.

Tweet: “BREAKING: Napoli set to resume talks with Manchester United over Alejandro Garnacho in the next few hours, according to Sky in Italy. United would be reluctant sellers but are not in the position to turn down a sizeable offer; Chelsea have not yet shown official interest.”

The report also touches upon Premier League rivals Chelsea being in the hunt for Garnacho, though the London club have “not yet shown official interest.”

This means Napoli remain at the front of the queue for the 20-year-old winger with Sky Sports reiterating United remain “reluctant sellers” who would “not [be] in the position to turn down a sizeable offer” should it arrive.

However, Old Trafford officials appear intent on sticking to their valuation of Garnacho with Napoli executives’ words suggesting there is a considerable gap between their number and United’s.

This remains a transfer saga likely to go down until the final moments of the transfer window, with a late approach by Chelsea impossible to rule out.
