Marcus Rashord “willing” to take extraordinary step to secure dream move to Barcelona – Sky Sports

Marcus Rashford is reportedly willing to lower his wages to help force through a move from Manchester United on loan to Barcelona, according to a report from Spain.

Marca journalist Luis Rojo reveals Rashford is “willing to lower his salary to sign for Barcelona” with United remaining open to the 27-year-old’s departure this month, after he was ostracised from the first-team squad by Ruben Amorim.

Rojo describes this move by Rashford as him “tak[ing] a step”, suggesting the forward’s willingness to compromise on his wage packet could prove decisive to a potential exit from Old Trafford.

Sky Sports contend Barcelona are “struggling to create salary space”, despite El Blaugrana’s interest in buttressing Hansi Flick’s forward line with a loan move for Rashford.

The United star signed a £325,000-a-week deal in 2023 following an imperious 2022/23 campaign during Erik ten Hag’s first season at Old Trafford.

However, this new contract has been followed by eighteen months of dismal form by the forward, marred by continuous criticisms of attitude and application in training and matches and poor behaviour off the pitch.

Amorim has wasted no time in stamping his authority over his new squad by dropping Rashford, along with fellow attacker Alejandro Garnacho, for the Manchester Derby – a match United emerged as sensational last-minute winners at the Etihad.

And while Garnacho has subsequently been reinstated into the first-team, with Amorim praising his improved work rate and willingness to learn, Rashford continues to be excluded, with the Portuguese coach stating the Englishman is not training well enough.

Sky Sports reveals Barcelona are “yet to make any formal arrangements” to sign the 27-year-old on loan, but the prospect of Rashford being willing to be flexible on his exorbitant wage packet will undoubtedly help these efforts should the Liga side choose to.

The financial situation at Old Trafford is a precarious one with INEOS seeking to save every single penny ahead of the summer transfer window.

If United were able to send Rashford on loan for five months, while only having to pay half of his wage packet (whether through Barcelona covering it or the 27-year-old lowering his wages) it would constitute a saving of nearly £3 million.

It’s evident each major player within this potential loan are open to it, whether it’s United or Barcelona, or Amorin or Rashford. And usually when a move has every party pulling for its completion, a deal gets done.
