Ratcliffe warned of ‘outright rebellion’ at Man Utd after angry fans confront him in X-rated rant

Sir Jim Ratcliffe was confronted by angry Man Utd supporters on Sunday and the Red Devils co-owner has now been warned of an ‘outright rebellion’.

The Red Devils beat Fulham 1-0 on Sunday evening to move up one place to 12th in the Premier League after 23 games played.

Man Utd have had a terrible season with Ratcliffe and INEOS taking the decision to keep Erik ten Hag on in the summer before sacking him in late October after a poor start to the season.

New manager Ruben Amorim has largely carried on the disappointing performances and inconsistent results but the Portuguese head coach will only be judged after getting some of his own players in the building.

That is something that is proving difficult with Man Utd close to the edge of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules and the Red Devils are now considering the sale of top talent Alejandro Garnacho to loosen up their budget.

This is all happening against the backdrop of club cuts with INEOS and Ratcliffe working to put the club on a more sustainable financial footing and have instigated a number of cost-saving measures, including a redundancy programme which cut 250 jobs from headcount across all departments by the end of August.

Ticket price hikes have also riled loyal supporters, who have had to deal with poor performances on the pitch over the past decade, and tensions spilled over on Sunday with some fans angrily confronting Ratcliffe.

Some supporters chanted: “Just like the Glazers, Jim Ratcliffe’s a c—”

In a video posted on X, the Man Utd co-owner is seen sitting in the back seat of his car and can be heard saying: “Enjoy your photograph guys,” as fans are heard shouting at him.

One fan is heard saying: “We’re northerners, come on mate – sort it out.” Before another adds: “Worse than the Glazers, mate.”

And now Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) has sent an open letter to Ratcliffe to complain about new Man Utd ticketing prices.

MUST wrote: “A price increase or significant ticketing policy changes would land very badly with fans at this time. Negative sentiment comes with financial costs, as discontent escalates into active protests and disillusionment.

“This discontent could lead to outright rebellion, with consequences not just for matchday revenues but also for sponsor relations and the club’s global brand. Sponsors depend on a passionate and engaged fanbase. Alienating supporters risks damaging these critical partnerships. Discontent also reduces fans’ discretionary spend too.”

The letter added: “Fan dissatisfaction affects the matchday atmosphere, creating performance anxiety for players, rather than the vocal support needed to inspire them. A passive or even hostile atmosphere at Old Trafford compounding struggling team performances could spiral into a catastrophic tailspin.

“Should this happen, the financial losses from lost European qualification and a lower league position finish, would dwarf any potential gains from ticketing revenue increases.

“Pricing is the headline but changes to ticketing policies must be handled with even greater care. Major missteps without proper understanding of the unforeseen impacts could provoke severe backlash from fans, as history has shown.

“Decisions made without proper consultation risk triggering disproportionate reactions and long-term damage to fan relations.”

Dorgu receives brutal review ahead of potential Man Utd transfer: ‘One mistake after another’

Potential new Man Utd signing Patrick Dorgu has received a brutal review of his performance over the weekend after agreeing terms with the Red Devils.

The Red Devils are looking to step up talks to sign the Denmark international this week as the January transfer deadline approaches for new signings.

Man Utd have made two bids for Dorgu as they look to provide Ruben Amorim with the left wing-back that he desires before the deadline.

And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed earlier on Monday that Man Utd are lining up a third offer for Dorgu as they aim to ramp up talks this week.

Romano wrote on X: “Manchester United are set to approach Lecce again early this week for Patrick Dorgu. Add-ons will be key part of the final proposal to get closer to Lecce’s request (€40m price tag). Dorgu has already agreed terms with Manchester United, Napoli are keen on summer move.”

Lecce manager Marco Giampaolo praised Dorgu for his application over the past week after he became “a bit distracted” following the initial rumours of a potential move to Man Utd surfaced.

Giampaolo said: “This week he was good, last week he was a bit distracted. He is 20 years old, everyone is talking about him, the best European teams are calling for him, it’s normal and he’s human.

“However, he is very mature. Last week he certainly had a drop in attention, but in the last few days I have seen him well, I have spoken to him and I don’t think the transfer market is upsetting him.”

Lecce were thrashed 4-0 by Inter Milan at home on Sunday to leave them just above the relegation zone and Italian website Tuttomercatoweb gave Dorgu a 4.5 out of 10 rating and picked him out for ‘one mistake after another’.

Tuttomercatoweb wrote: ‘United want to take him to the Premier League, this unfortunate evening is not the best spot to sell him. He pushes, but in the back he makes one mistake after another: the one on the Nerazzurri’s second goal was a serious one.’

Nordsjaelland technical director Alexander Riget has a lot of positive words about Dorgu, though, with the Danish club nurturing his talent before he moved to Serie A in 2023.

Many of the modern day players at Man Utd have often been criticised for their lifestyle away from Old Trafford but Riget insists Dorgu is only interested in football.

Riget told Sport Witness: “The community and so on is developing with a lot of social media nowadays. He’s not that kind of personality.

“He was really a football player. Like when the other players do something on the weekend, he was playing football with his brothers and sister. So he’s a real football player. He was always having a ball at his feet.”

Riget added: “He’s also quite a silent guy. He is not one who is speaking a lot but he’s always been very determined.

“He has been in a group of players at Nordsjælland where he was not standing out, but he was a good player because we could see quite good potential in him.”

And Riget reckons Denmark international Dorgu could be a good fit at Man Utd as he possesses the correct mentality to succeed at a big club.

Riget continued: “I’m not surprised from his mentality and personality that he can do it.

“Because he has never been a player who has been nervous before a game or anxious about it. I will say he is very uncomplicated. He is always like – put me on the pitch and then I will perform.

“That’s a good asset to have if you want to become a football player and I’m not surprised that he has been capable of taking the steps from a mental perspective because he’s just playing football and doing the job.”

‘Worst possible time’: United fans send brutal letter to Sir Jim Ratcliffe after controversial recent decision

Manchester United fans have urged the club to freeze ticket prices and improve relations with supporters, expressing their concerns in an open letter to Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe, whose INEOS group owns a minority stake in the club and oversees football operations, was present at Craven Cottage during United’s win against Fulham.

However, fans in the away end voiced their displeasure over the recent mid-season ticket price increases through chants.

The Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) emphasised the need for a “major reset” in the relationship between the club and its fans, citing United’s poor form on the pitch.

Last season, the club finished eighth in the Premier League, its lowest since 1990, and now sits in 12th after 23 matches of the current campaign.

In the letter, the group described the price hike as poorly timed, stating it negatively impacts fan sentiment, matchday atmosphere, and team performance.

They called for a price freeze and urged the club to focus on improving results on the field before exploring alternative revenue sources.

“As you consider forthcoming decisions on match ticketing policies and pricing, we urge you to pause and carefully reflect on the timing, potential consequences, and long-term impact of any major changes,” the letter read.

MUST noted that Ratcliffe’s public comments suggest he believes ticket pricing needs a review, but the group argued that changes would worsen divisions among supporters during a turbulent period.

“With the team struggling on the pitch and fan sentiment already at a low ebb, we all need to pull together to lift the team’s performance, not risk deepening divisions or creating further dissatisfaction.”

The letter concluded by emphasising the importance of fan support to Manchester United’s success:

“By freezing prices and avoiding major disruptive policy changes now, you have the opportunity to signal that you value the unique role of fans in Manchester United’s success. Together, we can build a stronger future for the club. The consequences of ignoring this are significant, but the benefits of getting it right are immeasurable.”

In November, MUST wrote to the club’s CEO Omar Berrada, requesting a reversal of the decision to raise ticket prices to £66 for the remaining home fixtures of the 2024/25 season.

The increase came as Ratcliffe aimed to comply with Premier League profitability and sustainability regulations amidst United’s ongoing financial difficulties.

The club recently admitted that it risks breaching these rules unless it finds a way to reverse its continued financial losses.

United’s Dorgu signing to open the door for surprise exit of 25 year old star – report

Manchester United’s transfer window could hinge on the future of Alejandro Garnacho.

Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth claims that while United are reluctant to part with Garnacho, a sale could provide much-needed flexibility in the market due to financial constraints related to Premier League sustainability rules.

Napoli and Chelsea are both said to be interested in the Argentina international, but Chelsea’s potential involvement might hold the most significance.

Should Chelsea meet United’s valuation, the funds could facilitate further dealings for Ruben Amorim’s side.

A Garnacho departure could pave the way for United to pursue Christopher Nkunku on loan from Stamford Bridge.

Although a permanent transfer is deemed unlikely due to budgetary limitations, a loan move for Nkunku would bolster United’s attacking options.

The funds from Garnacho’s sale would also allow United to focus on a more urgent priority—the left wing-back position.

United have been heavily linked with Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu, but negotiations remain tricky, with a gap in valuation causing friction.

They reportedly view Lecce’s stance as “brinkmanship” and are unwilling to overpay for the Danish-Nigerian full-back.

Should they secure Dorgu, it would open the door for Tyrell Malacia to leave on loan, with several European clubs reportedly interested in the Dutch defender.

However, the Garnacho sale remains a crucial factor in unlocking these deals.

The outcome of this situation could shape the club’s squad for the remainder of the season and determine their ability to compete on multiple fronts.

“Sources with a close understanding” confirm lethal striker’s desire to seal United move in January – report

Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku appears increasingly interested in closing a move to Manchester United this January.

With Alejandro Garnacho seemingly open to departing the club, Man United have reportedly identified Nkunku as a potential replacement. In fact, Chelsea have been named as an interested party in Garnacho, meaning that a swap deal could be on the table.

Just one day later, The Peoples Person noted that United appeared willing to bring in the French star on a loan deal.

Now, it appears as if the player himself is willing to put in the effort on his side to make a deal happen.

“Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku is understood to be keen on a potential transfer to Manchester United after another move collapsed,” CaughtOffside reported this morning.

“Sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Nkunku had more or less agreed terms with Bayern Munich, but an agreement could not be struck with Chelsea.”

“The Blues have set an asking price of around €70 million for Nkunku, though they could also be open to an initial loan move with an obligation to buy clause.”

United’s pursuit of Nkunku could be influenced heavily by Garnacho’s next move.

Napoli have been heavily linked with the Argentine winger, with Garnacho himself reportedly looking to advance the deal.

Still, the two clubs have disagreed on price, with United promptly rejecting the Serie A club’s €50 million bid for Garnacho. According to the report, United are valuing Garnacho at around €65 million, a reduction from their previous €75 million valuation.

This difference in opinion prompted the Napoli sporting director to lash out at United, warning that they would not capitulate to the club’s transfer demands.

With the transfer window closing in a matter of days, time is of the essence for United as they seek to determine who their wingers will be for the remainder of the season. With Marcus Rashford frozen out of manager Ruben Amorim’s squad and Antony away on loan at Real Betis, United’s options have become increasingly fewer, meaning that a deal for Nkunku could prove vital regardless of whether Garnacho decides to stay at Old Trafford.

Ex-Man Utd boss lined up as Tottenham board tell Postecoglou he is ‘in danger’

Tottenham are lining up a move for ex-Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag as they warn Ange Postecoglou that his job is ‘in danger’, according to reports.

Spurs reached a new low this season with relegation-threatened Leicester City coming from a goal down in north London to beat Postecoglou’s side 2-1 on Sunday.

Brazil international Richarlison gave Tottenham the lead on 33 minutes and went into the half-time interval leading the Foxes 1-0.

However, Leicester turned the game on its head within the first five minutes of the second half with Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss both scoring, as Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side grabbed all three points.

Tottenham have now won just one of their last 11 Premier League matches and haven’t tasted victory in their last seven matches in the English top-flight.

That form has piled pressure on Postecoglou with the Spurs boss now the favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

One report today indicated that Tottenham are ready to stick with Postecoglou as they have sympathy with him over the injury crisis they are experiencing.

Numerous players are currently out injured, including Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Dominic Solanke, Yves Bissouma and more.

But now Spanish publication Fichajes insist that the defeat to Leicester left the Tottenham board ‘with serious doubts about the Australian manager’s future’.

And now Spurs have ‘already have their sights set on a replacement’ for Postecoglou with former Man Utd boss Ten Hag said to be in the frame.

They claim that ‘sources’ at the club have revealed to them that Tottenham ‘have already informed the manager that his position is in danger’.

Fichajes adds: ‘Ten Hag’s experience and ability to rebuild teams could be key in Tottenham’s decision, as they seek stability and immediate results. However, the club has not yet made a final decision and, for the moment, Postecoglou remains in charge of the team.’

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara is baffled as to how Postecoglou is still in a job after recent results and performances as it has been “nowhere near good enough”.

When asked on Sky Sports if Postecoglou’s time at Tottenham was now at an end, O’Hara said: “Maybe. I mean, this is unacceptable, the performance in the second half has been nowhere near good enough.

“I would love to say it’s been an onslaught and two goals conceded early on and Spurs have come out and tried to win a game, but they haven’t really done anything.

“Leicester keeper’s had nothing to do. No real clear cut chances, terrible performance again.

“I said in the first half, Tottenham weren’t great, they were a bit flat. Richarlison gets on the end of a great cross, but apart from that, they didn’t really do anything.

“Over the course of the 90 minutes, it’s been a really, really bad performance. I don’t know how Ange can keep losing games and keep his job.

“At the moment, this is nowhere near good enough and we could be looking at Postecoglou’s last game.”

O’Hara added: “I’ve never seen a team give the ball away so much in my life, it’s unbelievable.

“Lack of ideas, lack of quality, lack of creativity, been a terrible performance. The Leicester goalkeeper can’t believe his luck.

“I’m really starting to believe that Ange might have to go.

“13 games now that Spurs have lost in the Premier League. It’s unacceptable. You can’t lose that many games, I know there’s injuries, I understand that, there’s a bit of a crisis – to lose 13 games as the Tottenham manager is unacceptable.”

Rio Ferdinand slams Man Utd star despite victory over Fulham: ‘A few fingers pointed at him’

Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand insists there will have been “a few fingers pointed at” Rasmus Hojlund in the dressing room after their 1-0 win over Fulham.

The Red Devils and the Cottagers were far from their best as a deflected Lisandro Martinez goal settled the match on 78 minutes as Man Utd moved up to 12th in the Premier League.

Man Utd had just four shots all evening with one on target as the Red Devils struggled to create any clear-cut chances at Craven Cottage.

Only five teams in the Premier League have scored fewer goals than Man Utd this season with Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford – who is likely to leave Old Trafford this month – unable to score the goals required of them.

Hojlund has been particularly poor recently for Man Utd and the young Denmark international was picked out as their weak link against Fulham on Sunday evening.

When put to him that Hojlund had been dispossessed ten times in the first half, Ferdinand replied on TNT Sports: “That says it all.

“I would be surprised if he wasn’t getting a few fingers pointed at him in the changing room at half-time.

“Hold the ball up, keep the ball, you’re the platform for us to get up the pitch, far too often he’s too loose on the ball.

“He doesn’t do things quick enough, the amount of turnovers he’s had today… as I said, I’d be surprised if the players weren’t having a word with him.

“He needs to use his pace more. He was slack and loose in possession.

“United can’t get out and get any good possession in the final third when their No. 9 isn’t able to hold the ball up.

“Most of United’s possession has been with the three centre-backs when there’s no pressure on the ball. Whenever there’s been pressure, United have turned the ball over.”

Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim has struggled for wins and good performances since taking over from Erik ten Hag in November but he was happy to come away from Craven Cottage with the three points on Sunday.

Amorim told BBC Sport after the win: “That feeling of winning and three points is really important for us.

“You cannot see a great improvement in the team and that is a fact. But to win helps us to improve.

“We’ve had some lack of luck in some games. Today, was not the best match but we managed to win.

“The important thing is I have a clear idea of what I want to do. Sometimes I’m frustrated. We want to play a different style and we are going to play different style in the future.”

“Heart and soul”: selling this player will be a terrible decision by United – opinion

Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho should not be sold by the club this winter.

The Red Devils are under immense pressure to raise funds to provide players for Ruben Amorim but are also struggling with strict PSR rules and transfer debt.

One negative consequence of modern day finance rules in football is that the selling of academy prospects helps free up large quantities of money such as the sale of Scott McTominay in the summer as it represents pure profit.

This has meant that the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are available for the right price.

As a result, there has been serious interest in Garnacho as both SSC Napoli and Chelsea are desperately trying to sign the 20 year old Argentina international.

Nonetheless, Man United should avoid the temptation of cashing in on their young star.

It was just eight months ago that Garnacho was scoring the opening goal in the FA Cup final versus Manchester City and had just come off the back of a highly impressive season at Old Trafford.

Statman Dave has also highlighted that even if this season has not seen the heights of last, his statistics are still impressive for his age.

He posted on X, “there are seven players across Europe’s top five leagues aged 21 or younger who have more G/A this season in all comps than Alejandro Garnacho.”

“Those players have an average market value of £125M.”

In contrast, United are reportedly willing to accept an offer of £60 million for the former Atletico Madrid youngster.

What’s more, Garnacho has played regularly even under Ruben Amorim lately and has scored eight goals and provided five assists in all competitions.

The 20 year old still needs to find his feet and position in Amorim’s system but this is also true for Mainoo and numerous players at the club. Moreover, it is very hard to switch formation mid-season and especially in a squad with such a low amount of confidence like the current side.

Therefore, while the temptation to cash in is understandable, a sale of Garnacho goes against the very ethos of a club who prides itself in giving a youth a chance.

Garnacho is far from the finished article and is often very wasteful in his decision making as a passer or finisher in the final third but he is just 20 years old.

Sir Alex Ferguson has praised the courage of youngsters like Garnacho and Mainoo and claimed, “they are the heart and soul of what Manchester United has been since the days of Sir Matt Busby, who started the whole process of trusting young players playing.”

Fans buzzed with excitement when academy prospect Toby Collyer came off the bench yesterday and made an outstanding goal line clearance.

What would the sale of such a promising youngster say about the club’s most cherished of traditions and indeed, what sort of message would it send the likes of Collyer who are on the cusp of becoming regular squad members?

Amorim’s “non-negotiable” trait that makes him polar opposite to Ten Hag – The Athletic

Ruben Amorim made the headlines recently after his team’s poor showing versus Brighton and Hove Albion in a 1-3 loss at Old Trafford.

He labelled the side “the worst” in the club’s history and it was also later revealed that he was so furious with his players that he smashed a television in the dressing room.

The Portuguese coach has also frankly admitted that his team could be sucked into a relegation battle if they don’t shape up in 2025.

The Athletic have taken a deep dive into Amorim’s personality, speaking to those who know him best during his time at Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.

One defining quality of the United coach is he “has always been a firm believer that honesty is the best policy, whether that be with his players, staff or the media.”

This could be seen yesterday after the win versus Fulham when he claimed he would play his goalkeeping coach ahead of any player who did not show 100% in training in reference to Marcus Rashford’s continued exclusion from the team.

This policy of the truth has been evident since his days in Portugal when he told a press conference that he would walk for free in January 2023 if his side did not improve after they were languishing in fourth place in the league.

“Amorim’s communication strategy is very different to that of former United manager Erik ten Hag. He says it how it is and has backed up his words with action”, The Athletic note. This can be seen is dropping of Alejandro Garnacho and Rashford from the squad that played Manchester City last month.

Ten Hag would often irritate fans with his blindingly positive statements on his team’s performance when it was clear that the players had played horribly but Amorim’s “call it as it is” policy is a stark contrast.

Nonetheless, he does not just say what he feels all the time and is “calculated” in what he says and knows when “to cross the line” according to a source in Portugal.

His outbursts of truth are designed as motivational tools and his “worst team” comment can be compared to his statement last season that if Sporting did not win the league, he would leave the team.

Nonetheless, what did contrast with his usual style was the smashing of a TV at Old Trafford as he usually does not talk to the players until the day after a game to be able to communicate in a less emotionally charged way.

His honesty can be seen as refreshing and certainly most of his former players had little trouble with it.

One of his former players told The Athletic, “we prefer the truth, good or bad, he tells us everything. We knew it was always for the good of the team. For him, the team is above everything and everyone.”

Another claimed, “the minimum is to give the maximum. If not, he doesn’t care about the names. He is very strict”, as Rashford can attest to.

Amorim has never faced a situation in his managerial career like he has in Manchester and is clearly frustrated in a way he never has been.

As he celebrates his 40th birthday, one thing is for sure, he will never stray from his “non-negotiable” quality, honesty with the players, board and fans.

Champions League star “open” to sensational return to Old Trafford – report

Former Manchester United left back Alvaro Carreras is reportedly open to a return to Old Trafford.

The Spaniard joined United’s academy from Real Madrid in 2020 and put in numerous impressive performances for the youth team.

He had loan spells at Preston North End, Granada and SL Benfica before he was sold this summer to the Portuguese giants.

Carreras has had an incredible season so far where he has started to make a name for himself on the European stage after some fine performances in the Champions League, most recently against FC Barcelona.

The 21 year old has been linked with a sensational return to United as they desperately need a left wing back for Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

Social media commentator Sam C, who is widely understood to have contacts in the club, has now claimed on X that Carreras would be prepared to make a return to United should they activate his buy-back option.

“Alvaro Fernandez open to Manchester United return, as exclusively revealed yesterday,” he said.

The Ferrol native has a £16 million buy-back clause in his contract which would make a deal much cheaper for United than any other club should they wish to sign him back from Benfica.

United continue to make a push for Lecce wing-back Patrick Dorgu but as the window draws to a close and the Italians continue to refuse to bend on the price, the Spanish under-21 international could become a more realistic option.

He has played 31 times this season for the Eagles, scoring three goals and making four assists in all competitions.

His fine form this season has also drawn interest from Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

With the transfer window due to close in a week on the 3rd February, United fans will be desperate to see a new left wing-back addition, be that Dorgu or Fernandez Carreras.
