Liverpool, City “well positioned” to try and hijack United’s summer deal for Amorim protege, would be a shocker – report

Wingback is an obvious area in need of reinforcements which is why Manchester United went all out to secure Patrick Dorgu’s signature in this window.

The Dane, who was part of Lecce’s squad for their Friday game against Parma, is set to have his medical on Saturday and will officially become a Red Devil.

He can play on both flanks but Ruben Amorim is likely to use him on the left with Tyrell Malacia closing in on an exit while Luke Shaw is still some time away from making a return.

However, despite his goal against FCSB in the Europa League, Diogo Dalot is not the most effective outlet as a right wingback which means there remains a vacancy on the right.

Quenda could be United’s new right wingback

Which is why Amorim is so keen on reuniting with his former Sporting Lisbon protege, Geovany Quenda with interest in the Portuguese increasing since the 40-year-old joined the club following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal.

Recent reports have even claimed that the 20-time English league champions have already wrapped up a €60 million deal for the 17-year-old.

The Athletic did claim those reports were a bit premature but made it very clear that the Old Trafford side were firmly in the hotseat and were eyeing a €40 million summer deal for the Sporting wonderkid.

However, reports in Portugal (via F365) have now stated that is not the case with arch-rivals Liverpool seeking to hijack the deal.

Liverpool looking to steal the deal

The Merseysiders are reportedly “well positioned” to steal the Portugal international’s signature from right under United’s noses.

Not only Liverpool, but even Manchester City are eyeing the right wingback with “informal talks” taking place between both camps.

“Concrete offers” from both rivals are expected in the summer and INEOS must do everything in their power to get the deal across the line.

Quenda knows Amorim’s system inside-out and can play on both flanks. He has six assists this season as well as a goal with the United head coach keen for more attacking input from his wingbacks.

Marcus Rashford ‘worry’ revealed as star could enrage Man Utd fans; pundit assesses potential impact

Sue Smith feels Ollie Watkins is likely to stay at Aston Villa, who are closing in on the signing of Marcus Rashford, in a move which could end up receiving backlash from Manchester United fans.

Rashford is clearly not on Ruben Amorim’s good side. After starring in the manager’s first few games in charge, the forward has not been seen on the pitch since early December.

Amorim has suggested he does not like what he’s seeing in training from the star, and until the point he does, he’ll sit out at United. That might not be a problem for long, as Rashford is reportedly nearing a loan move to Aston Villa.

Smith hinted there could be a bad reaction from United fans if the forward heads to Villa and suddenly has his head in the game and returns to his star status.

“So they now have options. Aston Villa needed to strengthen. They’ve got a lot of injuries, they’re obviously trying to compete in the Champions League and in the Premier League so they needed to bring players in and I think Unai Emery will back himself to get the best out of Marcus Rashford,” she said on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.

“But my worry is selling him to a rival club. You just think if he goes to Aston Villa and performs at a very very high level, what will the Manchester United fans think?”

Smith also believes that there are a couple of potential roles for Rashford, who could play alongside Watkins – who she feels will remain at Villa Park – or he could come off the bench to look to impact the game late, as Jhon Duran often did before recently being sold to Al Nassr.

“I still think they’ll try and keep him [Watkins], Unai Emery had him and Duran for that period of time where having those two options was great having that competition for places where if it wasn’t quite working for Watkins, Duran would come on and score the winner,” Smith added.

“I also think Marcus Rashford, he’s got that versatility so he can come off the left he can come off the right if need be he can obviously be the option in the number nine if they need to rotate with Ollie Watkins, they’ve obviously brought in [Donyell] Malen as well.”

Villa have the weapons to be able to succeed, and Emery will certainly believe he can get the best out of Rashford, or he’d simply not have signed him.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has reached an agreement over personal terms with Aston Villa, reports the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

Rashford has been exiled by Rubem Amorim, not featuring in any of the club’s last 12 matches across all competitions.

The England international fell out of favour under Amorim and it has been suggested this was after a heated incident that occurred just days after the Portuguese coach’s appointment as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.

Rashford has attracted interest from all over Europe in the January window but his wages have proved to be a key stumbling block in getting any deal over the line.

It’s understood that United have consistently maintained they want any suitor to cover all or the majority of his salary, in excess of £325,000-a-week.

On Friday, it was revealed that United had entered talks with Villa over a loan transfer for Rashford, at the personal request of Unai Emery.

Emery is a fan of the Carrington academy graduate and believes he can help him rediscover his best form.

A subsequent report noted that Villa were closing in on an agreement with United over a six-month loan deal. It was stated that this arrangement would include an option to buy Rashford at the end of the season.

Now, Romano has given an update, indicating that Rashford has agreed personal terms with Villa.

“Marcus Rashford and Aston Villa, deal close as negotiations are now progressing to the final stages. Loan move until June, salary covered and discussions ongoing about buy clause.”

“Rashford has also spoken to Unai Emery, he’s aware of Aston Villa desire to get him.”

Amorim completes “significant U-turn”, open to allowing “world-class” star to leave on deadline day – report

For Manchester United’s final Europa League group game against FCSB on Thursday, Ruben Amorim once again decided to hand Christian Eriksen a start.

The Dane has mostly been used in cup competitions, starting only twice in the league under the Portuguese but making consecutive starts in the Europa League as well as in the Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

In fact, the head coach has trusted the Denmark international more than Casemiro who does not seem to bring the requisite intensity.

INEOS want the Brazilian gone due to his huge wages and would ideally like to recoup a fee from his sale but with Saudi interest fizzling out, a loan deal could be sanctioned with multiple clubs eyeing a late deal.

          Amorim open to Eriksen departure

And now, Givemesport have claimed Eriksen could also make way this window with Amorim open to allowing the 32-year-old to leave.

The former Tottenham Hotspur star’s contract is up in the summer and United are open to a free exit should any interested suitors emerge with INEOS keen to get his £150,000 gross per week (via capology) wages off the books.

“Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has made a significant U-turn and decided he is prepared to sanction Christian Eriksen’s departure from Old Trafford without securing a transfer fee as the February 3 winter deadline edges closer, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

“Having seen the midfielder receive limited mid-season interest despite entering the final six months of a contract which allows him to pocket £150,000-per-week, the Red Devils have resigned themselves to the fact that they have missed out on the opportunity to pocket a modest fee for his services.”

Ready to allow him to leave on a free

So far, there has not been too many concrete proposals and United do not expect the “world-class” midfielder to depart before February 3.

The player would ideally like to join his preferred outfit which is why he might opt to stay and see out his remaining contract with more interest in his services expected in the summer.

INEOS have been proactively trying to reduce United’s bloated wage bill as seen from Antony’s exit with Tyrell Malacia and Casemiro also slated to depart.

If both Eriksen and Casemiro were to depart, it would leave Amorim short in the middle of the park and the best case scenario would be for only the Brazilian to depart.

Aston Villa ‘close to agreeing’ Rashford transfer with ‘option to buy’ expected in Man Utd deal

Aston Villa ‘close to agreeing’ Rashford transfer with ‘option to buy’ expected in Man Utd deal

According to reports, Aston Villa are ‘close to agreeing’ a deal with Manchester United to sign wantaway forward Marcus Rashford.

The January transfer window shuts on Monday night so the clock is ticking for Rashford to secure a transfer after he announced his intention to leave Man Utd on New Year’s Eve.

Barcelona have consistently been mooted as his preferred destination, while AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Napoli have also been linked.

However, his huge salary and poor form have been obstacles. He looked increasingly likely to remain at Man Utd beyond this window until Aston Villa moved to the front of the queue for his signature.

Unai Emery’s side joined the race to sign Rashford on Friday as the head coach has ‘personally requested’ this signing following Jhon Duran’s move to Al Nassr.

Now, The Athletic‘s David Ornstein has revealed that the two Premier League clubs are ‘close to an agreement’ and a ‘buy option’ is expected to be included in the deal.

READ: Ten blockbuster moves for the perfect end to the January transfer window

            He explained:

‘Aston Villa are close to agreeing a deal to sign Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United.

‘The proposed move has not yet been finalised as some details still need to be ironed out between all parties.

‘Significant progress has been made though, with Villa moving to sort the financial terms, looking to satisfy United on salary coverage, and convince the player. The chance to play in the Champions League is an appeal for Rashford, with Unai Emery fully behind the approach. It is believed an option to buy will be agreed with Villa.

‘Villa are set to cover a significant portion of the forward’s wage alongside offering performance-related bonuses.

‘Villa manager Emery personally requested the club enter talks over Rashford as he is a big fan of the England international, whom he thinks is one of the world’s most dangerous attacking players, and believes he can help him recapture his best form.’

“Loan move until June, salary covered and discussions ongoing about buy clause.

“Rashford has also spoken to Unai Emery, he’s aware of Aston Villa desire to get him.”

Journalist Ben Jacobs added: “Aston Villa optimistic of a loan deal to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.

“Comes after Rashford made it clear in last 24 hours he’s open to the move.

“Driven by Unai Emery and there could be a buy option.”

Shocking details emerge of what led to breakdown in Amorim and Rashford’s relationship – report

Details have emerged of a verbal confrontation between Ruben Amorim and Marcus Rashford, that led to the latter being exiled from the Manchester United team.

Rashford has not featured for United since a bombshell interview in December, where he told a journalist that he was ready for a new challenge away from Old Trafford.

The forward has not played any of his side’s last 12 matches across all competitions. After last Sunday’s 1-0 win over Fulham, Amorim claimed that he would rather play United’s 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital ahead of a demotivated Rashford.

Amorim subsequently told the media that he could reinstate Rashford but only if the England international changes his ways.

There has been plenty of interest in Rashford but no club has made a concrete effort to secure his services, partly due to his mega wages.

There is still a chance he gets a move before the February 3 transfer deadline, with Aston Villa closing in on a loan agreement with United.

Now, The Sun reveal that Rashford and Amorim’s relationship was in tatters just days into the Portuguese coach’s tenure.

The troubles between them can be traced back to the days leading to the Red Devils’ 4-0 win over Everton on December 1 – a game Rashford scored twice in.

It’s understood that in a conversation before the game, Amorim accused Rashford of going on a night out. A claim Rashford vehemently denied, to the point of asking his manager to provide proof.

A source told The Sun, “Marcus got called in by Amorim who said he believed he had breached discipline by going out.”

“Marcus denied it and was adamant he had done nothing wrong. He asked the manager to show him the proof he’d been out and said something along the lines of, ‘Are you calling me a liar?’”

“Their relationship has never recovered, and it’s hard to see how it ever will now.”

The newspaper notes that Rashford believes Amorim is under orders from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who wants his £325,000-a-week off the books.

The source added, “Marcus thinks Sir Jim wants him out of the club and has basically told head coach Ruben Amorim to get him out. He might just have met his match with Sir Jim. Marcus feels like he is being picked on.”

“In the early days of training under Amorim, he was trying to learn new systems and other players were also struggling — but he was the one who was getting more vocal criticism.”

“He knows he needs to leave but he’s shocked that no big team has pulled out all the stops to get him. There’s been interest but financially it’s a complicated deal and that’s put quite a few teams off.”

“Marcus has been left bewildered by how quickly his relationship with Amorim has disintegrated.”

Last year, Rashford was dropped by then-manager Erik ten Hag for an FA Cup meeting with Newport County after he was caught partying in Belfast hours before phoning the club to inform them he was too ill to train.

He was fined two weeks worth of wages.

Prior to that, Rashford also faced criticism from Ten Hag in October 2023 after he was seen partying on his 26th birthday, hours before United suffered a humbling loss at the hands of Manchester City.

United are back in action on Sunday when they host Crystal Palace. Kick-off is at 14:00 GMT.

Man Utd: Shock ‘priority’ transfer ‘set’ in £21m ‘crazy operation’ to replace one star ‘shunned’ by Amorim

According to reports, Manchester United are ‘accelerating’ talks to sign VfB Stuttgart loanee El Bilal Toure from Serie A outfit Atalanta.

The Red Devils are looking to make a couple of signings before the January transfer window closes on Monday night.

Man Utd have been focused on outgoings this month (and have been pretty unsuccessful) but appear to have turned their attention to signings.

Their top priority is to sign a new left wing-back and Lecce starlet Patrick Dorgu is expected to complete his move to Old Trafford at some point this weekend.

United are also in the market for a new striker as the Premier League giants have struggled in front of goal this season.

Ruben Amorim‘s side are linked with several potential options and Bilal Toure has emerged as a surprise target.

READ: Ten blockbuster moves for the perfect end to the January transfer window

The 23-year-old previously had spells at Reims and Almeria before he joined Serie A side Atalanta for around £24m during the 2023 summer transfer window.

The Mali international joined Bundesliga outfit VfB Stuttgart on loan ahead of this season and is out of action after fracturing his metatarsal.

Bilal Toure grabbed four goals and an assist in his first 13 appearances for Stuttgart, but he’s been out of action since November.

The forward was also impacted by injuries before he joined Stuttgart on loan, but he’s still linked with a shock move to Man Utd.

A report from Foot Mercato claims Bilal Toure is ‘set to sign’ for Man Utd, who have ‘accelerated’ and could land the striker ‘in a crazy three-way operation’.

It is noted that this transfer was ‘one of the priority projects highlighted by Amorim’ following his arrival as he’s ‘shunned’ summer signing Joshua Zirkzee.

The report claims Stuttgart are ‘considering buying Bilal Toure permanently to sell him to Man Utd’.

‘Wanting to keep their striker until the end of the season, Stuttgart is considering exercising the purchase option of 18 million euros (around £15m) in order to permanently recruit the player from Atalanta Bergamo.

‘According to our indiscretions, the former Rémois could then be recruited by Manchester United for 25 million euros (around £21m) excluding bonuses before being loaned to Stuttgart until the end of the season.

‘A meticulous operation on the part of the English club which is therefore looking to secure its future in the event that Zirkzee and Hojlund continue to disappoint.’

Bilal Toure clearly has a lot of potential, but this transfer would be underwhelming considering Man Utd are also linked with Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen ahead of the summer window.

“I don’t want to hear it”: United star hits back at recent scathing criticism from Amorim

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has insisted he has no desire to be seen as part of the club’s worst-ever team.

Following last month’s 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion, a seething Ruben Amorim described the current crop of players as the worst in United’s extensive history.

Amorim’s scathing remarks seem to have sparked a resurgence, as United have since gone on a three-game winning streak for the first time all term.

Dalot spoke to reporters after United’s 2-0 Europa League victory over FCSB and admitted that the boss’ remark did touch a nerve with the players.

Dalot said [as quoted by Manchester Evening News], “I don’t want to hear it. So the message for me is the next training session, I have to show that I don’t want to belong to the [worst] Manchester United team in history.”

“You can analyse it as something negative. I analyse it as something positive because I want to change the situation. My teammates also, and we show today (against FCSB) that we want to change this.”

“Football is always unpredictable, but what you can see is that we are trying to be more consistent about it, trying to win more games, and that’s the part that we want to keep.”

Dalot added, “It doesn’t mean that things will be lovely until the end of the season, but that’s where we want to go. We are really positive about it. We know that this storm that everybody is talking about, it will go away.”

On potentially winning the Europa League and qualifying for the Champions League, Dalot pointed out, “We know how much winning will help the development of this club. We want to win it. We know that [finishing in the top eight] was a very big step to be in the next round and go to the finals.”

“I think we have to go game by game, but [beating FCSB] was really important for us and the message that I want to pass is that we really know what it means to win a European Cup for this club.”

United are back in action on Sunday when they face Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Dalot said about this, “It’s massive not just for us but as a club, but for the fans. I think obviously you go to Old Trafford on Sunday, the atmosphere is already different because you feel that we are winning games. It’s not the same and it’s much easier to work, much easier to train when you are winning, and that’s where we want to go.”

“I mean, we know that what happened this season it’s been really tough, not just for us but for all the people involved at the club, but we want to change it and we want to start, step by step, and the first step is to win games, clean sheets.”

United vs. Palace kicks off at 14:00 GMT.

Official: Man United confirm signing of Ayden Heaven from Arsenal

Manchester United have confirmed they’ve completed a deal to sign Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.

Heaven becomes Ruben Amorim’s first arrival since his appointment as Erik ten Hag’s replacement in November last year.

The defender joined Arsenal as a 13-year-old in 2019 and made his senior debut for the Gunners as a substitute in an EFL Cup win at Preston North End in October.

United warded off significant competition from the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund to land Hayden.

He has put pen to paper on a contract until June 2029, with the option of an additional year.

United have also confirmed that Heaven will immediately link up with the first-team squad.

Reacting to officially becoming a United player, the 18-year-old said, “I am incredibly proud to join Manchester United. I’m grateful to everyone who helped make this dream a reality.”

“There is so much that I want to achieve in the game, I’ll be giving everything to continue my development and become the best player that I can be.”

United’s technical director Jason Wilcox remarked, “We are delighted that Ayden has joined Manchester United. He is already an extremely talented defender who is ready to join our first-team squad in order to maximise his development.”

“This club has a phenomenal track record of supporting young players and we believe that Ayden is in the perfect place to reach his excellent potential.”
