United set to vie with PSG for the PL’s “most promising jewel”, Amorim is a big fan – report

The 0-2 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace at Old Trafford was not the worst thing to have happened to Manchester United on Sunday.

Ruben Amorim also saw Lisandro Martinez get stretchered off in the second half after what looked like a serious knee injury and now it has been confirmed that he has suffered an ACL injury.

This is likely to keep him out for six to nine months which means the Argentine will not only miss the rest of the season but could also miss the start of the next campaign.

In cases which such a major injury, there is no telling when a player will make his return to action but for United’s sake, hopefully the World Cup can be seen in red sometime in the next campaign.

Lisandro will be a huge miss

Which is why the Portuguese head coach is keen to add quality at the back with the defence currently leaking goals. There have been reports that United could look at a stop-gap solution in the form of Andreas Christensen of Barcelona.

As per Spanish media, Dean Huijsen of Bournemouth has been identified as a long-term solution to fix the weakened backline but the Red Devils will have Paris Saint-Germain for company in the transfer race.

“The transfer market intensifies as two European giants, Manchester United and PSG, compete for the signing of one of the most promising jewels in current football: Dean Huijsen.

“At Manchester United, the addition of Huijsen has been seen as a long-term investment to strengthen the defense, an area the club has been looking to bolster for the past few seasons.

“Rúben Amorim, the coach of the Red Devils, has shown a clear interest in the defender, trusting in his youth and potential to quickly adapt to the high competitive level demanded by the Premier League.”

    United vs PSG for Huijsen

The 20-time English league champions were looking at the former Juventus star last summer as well but it came as a surprise to see the Cherries win the race for his signature.

But it has proven to the right call for the Spaniard, with the 19-year-old becoming a key cog in Andoni Iraola’s system, starting the last 11 league games in a row which have resulted in only one loss.

The Spain U21 international has also netted twice during this impressive run, including putting on a defensive masterclass against United while finding the back of the net as well. And Amorim instantly became a fan.

The English side had paid €18 million for Huijsen last summer with Jose Mourinho a big admirer of the centre-back. He is likely to cost any potential suitor more than €50 million, given the player’s age and contract.

It will be interesting to see if INEOS can pull the deal off in the summer.

Man Utd transfer: Fabrizio Romano reveals INEOS’ ‘internal decision’ on £60m star with two signings ‘never close’

Man Utd transfer: Fabrizio Romano reveals INEOS’ ‘internal decision’ on £60m star with two signings ‘never close’

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United have made an ‘internal decision’ on Alejandro Garnacho amid interest from Chelsea.

Man Utd just miss out on our list of the biggest spenders in Europe this window as they have signed Patrick Dorgu, Ayden Heaven and Diego Leon.

The Red Devils realistically needed to do more business as Sunday’s 2-0 home loss to Crystal Palace leaves them 13th in the Premier League table after 24 matches.

Man Utd have been focused on offloading unwanted talents to raise funds for their rebuild under head coach Ruben Amorim and left-back Tyrell Malacia could be the last player to leave before the transfer window closes on Monday night.

A report from Sky Sports claims Eredivisie outfit PSV are ‘closing in’ on the Dutchman.

‘PSV are closing in on the signing of Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia.

‘It’s understood talks over a six-month loan deal have reached an advanced stage. There will be no option to buy.

‘A medical has been booked for when the clubs agree the deal for the former Feyenoord defender.’

Garnacho has also been linked with an exit as this pure profit sale would significantly increase Man Utd’s budget.

The £60m winger has been targeted by Chelsea and Serie A giants Napoli this month and it’s been suggested that he could leave in a swap deal including Christopher Nkunku.

However, Garnacho has been praised by Amorim of late and has started most of Man Utd’s recent matches.

Romano now claims Man Utd’s ‘internal decision’ is that Garnacho will stay and they won’t make any more January signings. He has also picked out two more deals that were ‘never close’.

Romano tweeted: ‘Manchester United’s current stance is clear: NO more incomings are planned on Deadline Day.

‘Dorgu, Heaven, Diego Leon set to be the January signings for Man United — deal for Nkunku/Bailey were never close.

‘Alejandro Garnacho set to stay, internal decision has been made.’

Journalist Ben Jacobs backed up this report. He explained: “No further #MUFC incomings expected before tonight’s deadline.

“Club went into the window with a financially-disciplined approach. Not prepared to be reckless with spending or make risky additions mid-season.

“Understand #MUFC’s football leadership are pleased with Patrick Dorgu, Ayden Heaven and Diego Leon. Three young players with high ceilings.

“And exits of Marcus Rashford and Antony take significant wages off the books. Tyrell Malacia still set to leave on loan to PSV.

“Manchester United feel summer has better opportunities for incomings. Club are working within tight financial constraints and PSR limits and wish to save budget for summer and stick to their long-term recruitment strategy.”

“United’s current stance is…”: Fabrizio Romano offers hugely worrying update on club’s transfer plans

Manchester United’s transfer window has drawn to a close as Fabrizio Romano reveals the club are not planning for anymore incoming signings on deadline day.

The Italian transfer guru states, “Manchester United’s current stance is clear: NO more incomings are planned on Deadline Day.”

There remains the possibility fullback Tyrell Malacia will join PSV Eindhoven on loan before the 11pm deadline but there will be no more players joining the ranks at Old Trafford, despite the obvious gaps in Ruben Amorim’s squad.

The Portuguese coach has welcomed the addition of Patrick Dorgu from Serie A side Lecce. The Danish international will immediately assume the left wing-back role, which has emerged as a problem position for United since Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag in November.

Dorgu, 20, is joined by Ayden Heaven, an 18-year-old left-footed centre-back signed from Arsenal, who may be set for an unexpected level of involvement after the heart-breaking update of a cruciate ligament injury for Lisandro Martinez.

However, United’s continued struggles in front of goal – only four sides in the Premier League have scored fewer times than the Reds – mean a new centre-forward was a priority for Amorim this month.

Mathys Tel, 19, had emerged as an option late in the window but a deal could not be reached with Bayern Munich, and the French starlet has ultimately settled on a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

United were unwilling to pay the £5 million fee the German club were demanding – a stance which could come to define the remainder of an already difficult season at Old Trafford. Romano further reveals deals for Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku and Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey were “never close”, despite reports linking United with both forwards.

Perhaps the only positive news from Romano’s update is 20-year-old winger Alejandro Garnachoo is “set to stay”, having been linked with moves to Chelsea or Napoli in recent weeks. United could not have afforded to lose the Argentinian international who remains one of the team’s only consistent attacking threats, despite his tender years.

🚨🔐 Manchester United’s current stance is clear: NO more incomings are planned on Deadline Day.

A move for 17-year-old defender Diego Leon was also completed earlier in the window, though the Paraguayan will not complete the switch to Old Trafford until the summer.

Come May, it feels extremely likely United fans will be reflecting on a January transfer window which saw the club agree deals to sign three defenders, while sanctioning the departures of two forwards without bringing in any type of replacement.

United’s pursuit of Mathys Tel failed over one simple demand, fans will be furious with INEOS – report

United’s pursuit of Mathys Tel failed over one simple demand, fans will be furious with INEOS – report

Manchester United refused to meet the £5 million loan fee Bayern Munich were demanding to sign Mathys Tel on loan which has seen the French attacker instead join Premier League rival Tottenham Hotspur.

Tel, 19, emerged as an unlikely target for United heading into the final week of the January transfer window after unexpectedly pushing for an exit from Bayern over a lack of first-team minutes under Vincent Kompany.

Regarded as one of the most highly-rated attacking prospects in world football, Tel’s sudden availability is reported to have put a host of club’s across Europe on red-alert, including United, Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea.

But it was the Lilywhites who struck first, agreeing a £50 million deal with Bayern to sign Tel on a permanent transfer. The club’s chief executive Daniel Levy then travelled to Bavaria to seal the deal with face-to-face negotiations.

However, Tel rejected Spurs’ approach during these talks, with a report relayed by The Peoples Person revealing the 19-year-old’s preference was a switch to Old Trafford – “the boy wants United”.

United executives had launched their own enquiry for Tel with a loan move with a purchase option the Red Devils’ preference, due to the club’s precarious PSR position. Bayern officials preferred a straight sale or a loan with an obligation clause, having already seen a £50 million cash injection fall through after Tel rejected Spurs.

But, in a transfer saga which quickly emerged as the most unpredictable race in the winter window, it was then revealed Tel would actually be joining the London club, in a surprise loan deal without an obligation to buy.

And now James Ducker (The Telegraph) has explained why United’s pursuit of Tel failed where their domestic rival succeeded.

No further incomings expected at #MUFC before deadline. United baulked at the £5m loan fee Bayern demanded for Mathys Tel – considered expensive risk for largely unproven 19yo. So Rashford and Antony out on loan with no replacements expected. Malacia set to join PSV on loan

Ducker reveals Bayern were demanding a”£5 million loan fee” for Tel’s services until the end of the season – a price the reporter states “United baulked at”.

Old Trafford officials considered £5 million an “expensive risk for [a] largely unproven 19-year-old” – a seemingly fair assessment if the context of United’s misfiring forward line having been further depleted by the loss of Antony and Marcus Rashford in their loan deals (to Real Betis and Aston Villa respectively).

United’s decision to conclude their winter transfer window without the addition of a forward, despite head coach Ruben Amorim reportedly having requested reinforcements, will likely define the rest of an otherwise dismal season for the Red Devils.

The club’s last remaining opportunities for success lie in the cups – the FA Cup and Europa League – with the league campaign a write off; but a new forward, with the highly-regarded talent of Tel, would surely have been a boost to United’s hopes in either competition.

United star Tyrell Malacia “on his way” to complete late move to PSV Eindhoven – report

Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia is reportedly on the brink of completing a late move to Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven.

Throughout the January transfer window, United have been open to offloading Malacia, who has struggled to fully break into Ruben Amorim’s plans.

He has been linked to clubs like Real Betis, Celtic and Benfica but nothing materialised.

At one point, it seemed like Benfica were close to securing his services until the end of the season but talks between United and the Portuguese giants eventually collapsed.

It’s understood the transfer failed to get over the line because Benfica refused to meet United’s loan valuation.

Now, Voetbal International have revealed that Malacia is one step away from joining PSV.

According to the news outlet, “Tyrell Malacia is set to become PSV’s new left back. The 25-year-old wing defender is well on his way to the Eindhoven team, insiders confirm.”

“For the Eindhoven team, the Rotterdammer was always the first choice, according to well-informed sources, and now Malacia is on his way to join the national champions.”

“PSV will loan Malacia from Manchester United for six months, provided nothing crazy happens. The former Feyenoord player is expected to play an important role in the battle for the national title.”

This news has also been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano who wrote on X, “SV Eindhoven are closing in on loan deal for Tyrell Malacia from Man United, agreement at final stages.”

            “Medical booked.”

Malacia has made 47 appearances for United since his £15m move from Feyenoord, struggling with injuries since arriving at Old Trafford.

He featured 39 times during his first season under Erik ten Hag but did not play even a single minute of competitive action last term. He has played just three Premier League games so far in this campaign.

Man Utd dealt huge blow with key star’s injury diagnosis revealed amid verdict on ‘recovery’ time

According to reports, Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has suffered a severe injury and will be out for the remainder of this season.

United have got little right in the transfer market in recent years, but Martinez has been a big success at Old Trafford as he’s surpassed expectations following his move from Ajax.

The 27-year-old was written off by some before even kicking a ball due to his size, but he’s proven a great signing for the Red Devils.

However, injuries have hampered Martinez as he only 14 appearances in all competitions last season.

Martinez has played in most of Man Utd’s games this season but he was forced off during their 2-0 loss against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking post-match, head coach Ruben Amorim admitted he feared Martinez’s injury was “serious”.

👉 January Transfer Deadline Day 2025: Follow it LIVE with F365…

Amorim said: “We are going to see in the next days, but I think it is a serious situation.

“He felt it and when you are a player, you know when it is something serious. We are here to help him in this difficult moment like he has helped us.”

Now, journalist Gaston Edul has revealed that the defender has “ruptured” his “cruciate ligament” and could be out of action for “eight months”.

Edul tweeted: “Lisandro Martínez had a rupture of the cruciate ligaments so he will not be able to play more in what is left of this European season and he will return after half a year, there are approximately between six and eight months of recovery depending on each one.”

READ: Man Utd ‘activate’ £12.5m emergency signing after Martinez suffers ‘serious’ injury

Despite this, Manchester Evening News are reporting that Man Utd won’t ‘panic buy’ on deadline day.

‘Manchester United are adamant they will not make a panic buy before the transfer window shuts at 11pm tonight.

‘United head coach Ruben Amorim reiterated on Sunday the club will “try everything” to sign a forward amid interest in Bayern Munich teenager Mathys Tel and Christopher Nkunku at Chelsea.

‘No prospective deal is currently developing and sources have stressed United have no intention of recruiting any short-term or stop-gap players who could compromise the club’s budget in the summer.

‘United maintain their focus is on building for the long-term and planning is already underway for the summer transfer window. The club remain in the market for an attacking reinforcement before the deadline this evening.

‘Representatives of Sporting winger Geovany Quenda have denied that United are in negotiations to sign the teenager today. United remain interested in Quenda, who made his debut under Amorim.’

Man Utd ‘ask about’ £67m Serie A striker as Romano reveals Tel ‘phone calls’ and uncertainty

Man Utd have ‘asked’ about the availability of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic after a deal for Mathys Tel fell through, according to reports.

The Red Devils are keen to sign a new striker before the window shuts on transfer deadline day with Man Utd struggling to score goals in the Premier League.

Only four Premier League sides have scored fewer goals than 13th-placed Man Utd this season with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee scoring just five between them in the league.

And Amorim seemed to make a point to the Man Utd board on Sunday by starting Kobbie Mainoo in a false nine position with Hojlund and Zirkzee on the bench in their 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace.

A deal for Bayern Munich forward Tel was seemingly on the cards until it ‘collapsed’ last night and now The Guardian journalist Jamie Jackson insists it’s ‘very unlikely’ that a deal can be revived.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also explained this morning what the current state of play is over a potential Man Utd deal for Tel.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “My information is that at this time, Mathys Tel is still pushing for a loan move. Bayern, on their side, are still insisting for a permanent move, loan with obligation or permanent.

“Because they had 60 million euros guaranteed from Tottenham, and the player said no. So what happens now?

“All the clubs interested in Mathys Tel are still there calling and trying to understand what happens. Man United did that in the last 48 hours, Arsenal also informed.

“So several clubs are still calling, because the player would be open to a loan move on deadline day. Now, it depends on what the player and Bayern will decide. If Bayern will give the green light to Mathys Tel tell or not.

“But for sure, a super interesting situation for Mathys, because there is strong interest in a potential last-minute deal. And so let’s keep the story open.”

And now TBR Football claim that Man Utd and Arsenal ‘have asked about Dusan Vlahovic’s situation at Juventus over the weekend’ with his talks over a new deal reaching stalemate.

The report adds: ‘And TBR has been told by sources with knowledge of the situation that up to four Premier League clubs have made recent enquiries for the striker.’

Victor Osimhen is another striker linked to Man Utd and Rio Ferdinand reckons they should “get him on loan” before the transfer deadline.

Ferdinand replied to a fan on his YouTube channel: “I 100 per cent agree with you. I completely agree. A natural number nine. Victor Osimhen, I would have gone with Osimhen on loan. Get him on loan, man. If it’s possible I would have got him.”

The Man Utd legend added: “I’ve watched Hojlund closely the last two games… it just doesn’t add up,” he said. “I’d be going to get Osimhen now if we can do it from a financial standpoint. Get him on loan now!

“Guarantees you someone who can get on the end of things, scores goals, experienced, done it at the top level. I just feel like because Hojlund was £70m-odd we’re expecting the finished article. Unfortunately [he’s not]. He’s a young striker but normally a striker of that age comes in and learns off someone. United looking at late blockbuster deal for Barcelona ace with Amorim keen to add CL winner – report

Manchester United’s 0-2 defeat against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday was their seventh home defeat in the Premier League this season.

United have now conceded 22 times at home in this campaign, more than 18th-placed Leicester City have let in at their home ground, such is their poor defensive record when playing at The Theatre of Dreams.

Apart from the glaring problem up front, Sunday’s game also threw up another major headache for Ruben Amorim as Lisandro Martinez had to be stretchered off after he sustained a knee injury which had him in tears.

And the head coach’s worst fears were realised on Monday with reports stating the World Cup winner could miss the rest of the season.

Lisandro to miss the rest of the season

With Luke Shaw yet to regain full fitness, Amorim does not have a natural left-side centre-back in his squad. Ayden Heaven has arrived from Arsenal but whether the coach opts for him this early remains to be seen.

F365 have relayed reports from Spain claiming that the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss has “activated interest” in Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen on deadline day to replace the injured Argentine.

“Manchester United suffered a major setback in their last game with the injury of Lisandro Martínez , a setback that could have serious consequences for Ruben Amorim’s team

“In this scenario, Andreas Christensen has emerged as one of the most interesting options for United. Amorim has been following the Danish centre-back for some time and believes that his profile would fit perfectly into his defensive scheme.”

                    Christensen as Lisandro’s replacement?

The Dane has experience of playing in the English top-flight for Chelsea while he can also double up as a defensive midfielder if needed.

However, his recent injury record is far from exemplary. The 28-year-old has suffered a series of injuries this season which has seen him make only one substitute appearance under Hansi Flick in the whole campaign.

There is very little time for both clubs to agree a deal and the Catalans are looking at a permanent exit should the Red Devils come calling.

Due to PSR concerns, United are likely to want a loan at this stage and INEOS would be better served spending their money elsewhere given Christensen’s poor injury record.

Man Utd: Amorim has ‘Championship level attack’ after loaning out ‘best striker’ Marcus Rashford

Manchester United “could be left with egg on their face” after letting Marcus Rashford – “their best striker” – join Aston Villa on loan, says Jamie O’Hara.

Rashford was made available for transfer after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim, who was not a fan of the forward’s professionalism off the pitch.

He was linked with FC Barcelona, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain but ended up moving to Man Utd’s Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

Former Tottenham midfielder O’Hara thinks the Red Devils might have made a big mistake.

He argues that Rashford is the club’s “best striker” and his departure leaves Amorim with a “Championship level” attack at his disposal.

“Marcus Rashford could embarrass Manchester United and Ruben Amorim,” O’Hara said.

“I don’t blame everything on Amorim, if he’s got a player there that doesn’t want to be involved and saying he wants to leave, what choice does he have? I think Manchester United wanted him off the wage bill and I think he needed a fresh start.

“Let’s see what Rashford does but let me tell you that Man United are in disarray, their forward line is Championship level and nowhere near good enough.

“[Joshua] Zirkzee should not have a United shirt on, Amad’s [Diallo] been the only bright spark, [Alejandro] Garnacho has been poor and [Rasmus] Hojlund doesn’t look like he can hit a barn door. So for me, they have let their best striker go.

“If Aston Villa get the best out of him, Man United could be left with egg on their face.”

Amorim made the extremely bold decision to bench both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee to start Kobbie Mainoo up front against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Mainoo put in a solid attacking display against FCSB in the Europa League last Thursday and found himself as a false-nine against Oliver Glasner’s men.

In fairness to Amorim, he was well within his rights to drop Hojlund and Zirkzee, it’s just playing Mainoo ahead of them was… interesting.

Hojlund has two goals in 19 Premier League matches this season, recording as many goal involvements as Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson. Not ideal for a £70million striker, that.

Hojlund has zero goals in his last 13 matches. Zirkzee, meanwhile, has four goals in 35 appearances this season and none in his last 16 appearances.
