Man Utd: Amorim ‘WhatsApp group’ revealed as ‘lazy’ Red Devils ‘killed’ by head coach

Leny Yoro says Ruben Amorim is “really strict” with the Manchester United players and revealed why the head coach has set up a WhatsApp group for the Red Devils defenders.

Yoro joined United for £52m in the summer but has struggled along with his teammates this season having missed a big chunk of the campaign through injury.

The 19-year-old told Rio Ferdinand how Amorim is helping him to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Yoro told the Rio Ferdinand Presents Podcast: “I have a good relationship with Ruben Amorim. I just try to do what he asks me to do.

“He’s big on communication with the players because he played at a top level. He’s been at a lot of clubs, so he knows your feelings when you’re not playing or when you have a bad game. He knows how to speak with you, and that’s really important for me.

“In training, it’s really, I would say, hard. But it’s important. We have a lot of training and, for him, training is really important because you play the game like you train.

“The most important thing is to be really good in training. If you are not working, if you are lazy in training, he won’t like you – he’ll kill you! It’s normal because, yeah, you play like you train.

“He’s really strict on this because, to win games and trophies, you need to be disciplined outside the pitch. You need to be punctual.”

Yoro also revealed that the United defenders are in a WhatsApp group where they’re sent clips of strikers ahead of games to prepare them.

He added: “We have a group on WhatsApp. With all the defenders, they send clips of the strikers, their movements, their runs.

“I have one person who’s doing really a lot of clips on the striker for me to know. I would say the intelligence, you know, to understand the game – you know, how the players, how they press, how they move. All these things, with the clips outside of the pitch, you know, learning the game.

“I felt pressure, man. Like, when I went anywhere, I thought everybody was talking about the price tag and expectations. But my safe place was the training ground, on the pitch.

“I come to United for a big price, so yeah, the pressure is here. People speak a lot, and today, social media is really in our lives, you know.

“Every day, you go to social media, you can see your name – for good news or sometimes for bad news. But yeah, when I go to the training ground with the team-mates, you know, I just forget everything. Just go on the pitch and train, take pleasure.

“I don’t search my name on Twitter or Instagram, so I don’t even see my name on social media.

“I try not to see, even if it’s good. If I see something good, of course, maybe my confidence will increase a little bit.

“But if I see something bad, it’s just like this. I cannot change anything, so it doesn’t change a lot of my confidence.”

Cristiano Ronaldo: United legend makes outrageously controversial claim as he marks 40th birthday

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed he is the best and most complete player in football history, even ahead of his arch-rival Lionel Messi.

The United and football icon turned 40 on Wednesday – another milestone in an extremely successful career that has seen him win titles, personal awards, break records and score goals at a ridiculous rate for United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Al Nassr and Portugal.

Ronaldo re-signed for United in 2021, putting pen to paper on a two-year contract with the option to extend for a further year.

He returned to Old Trafford 12 years after his first spell under mentor Sir Alex Ferguson. Between 2003 and 2009, he scored an impressive 118 goals in 292 games for United.

Ronaldo famously impressed the United players so much in a pre-season clash that they urged Sir Alex Ferguson to sign him. His debut for the Red Devils came as a second-half substitute against Bolton. United won 4-0, with a young Ronaldo catching the eye.

The legendary George Best later described Ronaldo’s debut as “undoubtedly the most exciting performance” he had ever seen.

Best went on to add that it was the first time he regarded comparisons to a player as a compliment.

Ronaldo helped United win three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups before departing for Madrid.

At the Santiago Bernabeu, Ronaldo enjoyed a stunning nine-year tenure, scoring 450 goals and registering 131 assists in 438 appearances in all competitions. He also added four Ballon d’Or accolades to the one he won at United.

A transfer to Juventus followed, where he scored 101 goals and registered 22 assists in 134 appearances. He won another five trophies with the Old Lady, including two Serie A titles.

Despite the acrimonious nature of his exit in 2022 after falling out with Erik ten Hag and the club, Ronaldo still managed an impressive return during his second spell, finding the back of the net 27 times in 54 appearances.

He is now at Al Nassr, where he is showing no signs of slowing down. He currently has a staggering record of 923 goals in 1,261 matches, but it’s believed he has one more big personal milestone to reach before hanging up his boots – 1000 career goals.

During a recent interview with Spanish television, Ronaldo said [via Al Jazeera], “I’m the best player in football history. I haven’t seen anyone better than me in football history, and I’m saying truth from my heart.”

“I’m talking about numbers. I think I’m the most complete player to have existed. In my opinion, I think it’s me. I do everything well in football: with my head, free kicks, left foot. I’m fast. I’m strong.”

“One thing is taste. If you like Messi, Pele, Maradona, I understand that and I respect that, but saying Ronaldo isn’t complete … I’m the most complete. I haven’t seen anybody better than me, and I say it from the heart.”

“Who’s the player in history who’s scored the most goals with their head, their left foot, penalties, free kicks? I was looking the other day, and not being left-footed, I’m in the top 10 goal scorers with their left foot in history – and with my head and with my right foot and penalties. All of them.”

In his interview, Ronaldo also appeared to aim a dig at Ten Hag. Reflecting on the managers he has played for, Ronaldo revealed there have been some “really bad” ones.

“I learned from everyone. I had some really bad coaches. Some of them don’t have a f***ing clue about football at all.”

Man Utd transfer: Red Devils to accept £40m bid for ‘hopeless’ flop as West Ham consider offer

Manchester United are reportedly open to offers of around £40m for Rasmus Hojlund and West Ham are considering a summer move for the striker.

The Hammers signed Evan Ferguson on loan at the end of the January transfer window with manager Graham Potter – who handed Ferguson his Brighton debut – hoping the Republic of Ireland international can be a consistent source of goals up front.

But there will be other suitors in the summer if Ferguson does start finding the net on a regular basis and Brighton will likely want a fee that’s beyond West Ham’s reach.

Which is why, according to TEAMtalk, the Hammers are looking at Hojlund as an alternative option.

The Denmark international has scored just 23 goals in 73 games for the Red Devils since his £64m move from Atalanta in the summer of 2023 and was left out of the starting XI against Crystal Palace, with midfielder Kobbie Mainoo instead chosen by Ruben Amorim to lead the line.

That snub has led to suggestions he could be on his way out of the club in the summer, with United set to sign a new striker to score the goals they sorely need.

        The report states:

‘TEAMtalk understands that Hojlund has admirers at West Ham and they could consider a summer move for him if they miss out on Ferguson.

‘The 22-year-old has failed to live up to expectations since his £72m (including add-ons) move from Atalanta in the summer of 2023. He certainly has potential, but has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.

‘As a result, Man Utd ARE considering parting ways with Hojlund in the summer, with Ruben Amorim not convinced by the forward. The Red Devils have already accepted that they won’t be able to recoup what they paid as things stand.

‘Sources state that a £40m bid could be enough to sign the Danish international if he doesn’t turn his form around this season. As we have reported, Juventus and other Serie A sides are keeping tabs on his situation.’

Former Man Utd player John Sivebaek claimed Hojlund was “completely hopeless again” against Southampton last month but Gary Neville said after Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee were left out against Palace that Amorim has got to try to squeeze more quality from the players he has available to him

Neville said: “He will not be enjoying this but I think he’s got to simplify it. He might not like [Rasmus] Hojlund, he might not think [Joshua] Zirkzee is great or might not like other players. He’s got to pick the players he has and stick with them.

“It can’t keep going on as it is they have to somehow start to play better but where’s it coming from? But I have to say at this moment in time it’s a sorry situation, a very sorry situation when United play.”

“One of the best in world football”: PL manager believes he can get the best out of this United superstar – Athletic

Unai Emery is understood to be a huge admirer of Marcus Rashford, who has joined Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United.

Rashford spent more than a month on the sidelines, as Ruben Amorim decided to push the Englishman away from the first-team fold after being left disappointed with his work in training.

United were open to listening to offers for their superstar all January but not many suitors showed interest in meeting their demands.

By late January, such was his relationship with Amorim that the Portuguese suggested he would rather give a chance to his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach on the bench instead of Rashford.

Villa came calling for him late in the window and secured his services on an initial loan deal with a £40 million option to buy.

The Birmingham based outfit have agreed to pay 75 percent of his salary, which is in the excess of £325,000-a-week.

More importantly for Rashford, his new manager is very keen to work with him and believes in his talent.

Speaking on The Athletic FC Podcast, David Ornstein revealed: “Unai Emery loves Marcus Rashford as a player. He believes that he is one of the best in world football — and that he is the coach to bring him back to his top level.”

During Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign and in Erik ten Hag’s first season, Rashford did show he is an elite forward by consistently getting on the scoresheet.

If Emery can help the England international rediscover that form, not only would it boost Villa’s chances of going far in the Champions League but it would also help the Red Devils raise more funds to ease their financial fair play concerns.

The way Rashford and Amorim parted ways during the winter window, it is tough to see him getting back into the United gaffer’s plans irrespective of how he performs at Villa.

Further, a significant fee should also help INEOS sign a top forward for Amorim, having failed to strengthen his attack in January.

Fabrizio Romano: Amorim’s “outrageous” prodigy set to be fast-tracked to huge role in United’s first XI

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was let down heavily by INEOS when they failed to bring a new striker during the closing stages of the January window.

The situation got so bad that the Portuguese was forced to play Kobbie Mainoo up top in the Premier League game against Crystal Palace last Sunday.

It was a timely message to the co-owners that he has very little faith in Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s abilities to change the club’s fortunes.

The Dane’s goalscoring rut is now into its 13th game while the Netherlands international has only four goals in 35 matches in all competitions.

            Amorim’s threadbare attack

The Dane is reportedly on trial until the end of the season with INEOS open to his sale with West Ham among his potential suitors.

Apart from the misfiring striker duo, Amorim only has Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo to call upon until the end of the season now that Marcus Rashford has departed on loan to Aston Villa.

And the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss could look inwards to solve the goalscoring crisis with Chido Obi a potential option.

The former Arsenal youth star has been on fire since his move to Old Trafford, netting nine goals in 10 games while also registering one assist.

Despite being only 17, he has already made his full debut for the U21s and as per Fabrizio Romano, a first team call-up could be on the cards.

Chido Obi could be an option

“Man United always saw Chido as part of a future first squad plan, so I’d not be surprised if he gets the chance from now to the end of the season to join the first team,” the Italian told Givemesport.

United coaches are delighted with the “outrageous” talent’s progress and one of the main reasons why he departed the Emirates was because he felt his pathway to the first team was blocked over there.

Amorim had shown during his time in Lisbon that he was not afraid to thrown talented kids into the deep end if required and Chido Obi’s time could be just around the corner if he keeps on impressing for the academy.

If not in the Premier League, an FA Cup or Europa League runout makes a lot of sense.

“Way out of their reach”: INEOS produce delusional ‘Mission 21’ plan to win United’s next PL title – report

“Way out of their reach”: INEOS produce delusional ‘Mission 21’ plan to win United’s next PL title – report

Sir Dave Brailsford has “unveiled” an ambitious new plan to Manchester United staff named “Mission 21”, with the aim of delivering the club’s twenty-first Premier League title.

The Ineos sport director, seen as Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s right-hand man in the British billionaire’s vast sporting empire, has taken on a “more central role in performance” at Old Trafford following the departure of Dan Ashworth in December, according to The Times.

The report describes Brailsford as Ratcliffe’s “principal advisor” with the former British Cycling chief famed for his ‘marginal gains’ approach to performance.

Brailsford has been a “constant presence” at United since Ratcliffe’s co-ownership bid for a minority stake of the club was accepted in December 2023, and later ratified by the Premier League the following February.

In this time, the Red Devils finished last season in a dismal 8th place after a campaign littered with inexcusable performances. Yet, this season has plumbed new depths with Ruben Amorim – appointed in November to replace Erik ten Hag – overseeing the “worst side in United’s history” to a position of 13th in the Premier League.

If ever there was a team crying out for ‘marginal gains’, it would be the one Brailsford has, ostensibly, been responsible for over the last 14 months.

The Times reports, “Amorim remains very much in charge of first-team matters, but Brailsford is now a central figure in driving what United hope is a transformation of the performance culture after years of decline.”

And part of this approach was formalised by the Ineos director to staff in the “Mission 21” plan – a “blueprint for United’s future” aimed at delivering the club’s next Premier League success, with the Reds currently on twenty titles.

However, The Times contends United’s current form, and difficulties with finances off the pitch, means this ambition looks “way beyond their reach” at present.

Brailsford drafted ‘Mission 21’ with the assistance of James Morton – “a professor of exercise metabolism at Liverpool John Moores University and the head of nutrition and physical performance lead at Team Sky”.

The pair presented the blueprint in a meeting with “senior performance staff” at Carrington last year. Alongside the plan for ‘Mission 21’, was a comparable model for the women’s team, titled ‘Mission 1’ as United Women await their first Super League title.

Ineos have been accused of a lack of focus and investment in the women’s team and this inclusion in the overarching plan for the club’s future “shows a level of commitment to Marc Skinner’s side,” The Times concludes.

Both ‘Mission 21’ and ‘Mission 1’ sit under the broad umbrella of United’s ‘Project 150’ initiative – a direct reference to the club’s 150th anniversary in 2028, with an ambition for United to be winning the Premier League title as a celebration and projected timeline.

The report reveals, “the key figures in that are [Omar] Berrada, [Jason] Wilcox, Collette Roche, who is the the chief operating officer, and Brailsford.”

Evidently, Brailsford’s influence at United remains considerable with the club’s co-owner backing his right-hand man to get it right at Old Trafford.

The Times concludes, “Brailsford’s “marginal gains” mantra was a central theme in the early Brailsford success story, as was something he called the “CORE Principle”, which is an acronym for commitment, ownership, responsibility and excellence and was designed to “achieve excellence in human beings”.

Whether this all translates successfully to top-flight football remains to be seen, but clearly Ratcliffe welcomes expertise beyond the boundaries of Amorim and his coaching staff.”

United fans would be forgiven for reacting to the idea of a blueprint titled ‘Mission 21’, encompassed within a broader ‘Project 150’ plan, with a suspicious scepticism given the dismal realities they are witnessing on the pitch every weekend.

But there has been an absence of any semblance of a plan at Old Trafford in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson malaise of the past eleven years. The fact that United are at least aiming at a target is an improvement; even if there are continued doubts over the people responsible for pulling the trigger.

Man Utd: Amorim has ‘no faith’ in Red Devils pair as Crystal Palace ‘signal’ ignored by INEOS

Ruben Amorim has “no faith” in Manchester United flops Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee but INEOS ignored the “signal” the head coach sent in defeat to Crystal Palace.

Hojlund joined United from Atalanta in 2023 but has scored just 12 goals in 49 Premier League games, while Zirkzee has three goals in 24 games since his £34m move from Bologna in the summer.

Both strikers were left out of the starting lineup for the 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, with midfielder Kobbie Mainoo preferred to lead the line by Amorim.

The experiment didn’t work but former United defender Paul Parker believes the head coach was sending a signal to the club bosses to sign a goalscorer before the end of the transfer window.

“I understand the reasons why he did it – Kobbie has a good brain and knows what is expected of a centre forward and what he would want from a striker if he was playing deeper,” Parker told Metro.

“But it wasn’t going to work because he’s not a renowned goalscorer. It only works if you have midfield players who are going to run past him but they haven’t got enough athleticism within the team to play that way.

“As well, it could have been a signal to the people above him to let them know that he has no faith in the two players he has tried there.

“It’s like having two goalkeepers on the bench. Every fan knows that when a manager puts two keepers on the bench, he’s making a point to those above him that he needs someone. I think it could have been that.

“I don’t know how well it would have gone down but he didn’t get what he needed badly (in the transfer market).

“It would have lifted the fans if they had gone out and got a centre forward. It didn’t have to be a massive name just someone who wants to prove a point. Now it’s going to be a big struggle until the end of the season.”

Amorim’s attacking options were depleted in the winter window as Antony and Marcus Rashford left the club on loan, joining Real Sociedad and Aston Villa respectively.

Parker believes the Portuguese boss made the right call to let Rashford after the England international announced his desire for a “new challenge” in mid-December.

“I don’t think he’ll regret letting him go because he won’t give Amorim what he wants. He’s not a natural centre forward either,’ Parker added.

“You saw in the Ipswich game that, yes he scored, but he was non-existent as a centre forward. He doesn’t like people behind him because he doesn’t like getting kicked. Every time he stepped forward, you could see he was tense because he was worried about the people behind him.

“As well, he didn’t need that situation with Rashford and his attitude from January until the end of the season. He didn’t need that around affecting the squad. The most important is the majority over any one individual.”

Man Utd transfer: INEOS received ‘important bid’ as ‘request’ made deal collapse after Romano reveals ‘decision’

Napoli’s sporting director has revealed why their move to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho collapsed during the winter transfer window.

During the January transfer window, Man Utd were largely focused on outgoings as they looked to free up funds for Ruben Amorim‘s huge rebuild.

The Red Devils are enduring a terrible season as they are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

This means United are open to offers for most of their squad and Garnacho attracted interest from several clubs during the winter window.

Garnacho is one of Man Utd’s best young players, but there are doubts surrounding his ability to fit into Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system.

Chelsea were linked with Garnacho, but Napoli appeared more serious as they looked to sign a replacement for Paris Saint-Germain newbie Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Napoli made an offer for Garnacho in January but a deal did not go through. On deadline day, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed Man Utd’s ‘internal decision’ on the Argentina international.

Romano tweeted: ‘Manchester United’s current stance is clear: NO more incomings are planned on Deadline Day.

Now, Napoli chief Giovanni Manna confirms they made a bid for Garnacho, but this move was turned down because they “must respect” their current players.

“We made an important bid to Manchester United for Garnacho. We really wanted him,” Manna said.

“We weren’t able to agree on personal terms with Alejandro, he requested an important salary to leave in January and we must respect our players.”

Earlier this week, The Guardian claimed Man Utd are still open to selling Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

‘Manchester United face another difficult transfer window in the summer because of limited finances, with the ability to considerably strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad dependent on accruing a profit from player sales.

‘The number of players whose sale would draw a sizeable profit for the summer window is limited. Rashford’s loan terms with Villa are thought to include a buy option for £40m. As a homegrown player, his fee would count as 100% profit under profit and sustainability rules, and funds would be saved by his lucrative contract being taken off the books three years before it ends in 2028.

‘Alejandro Garnacho, valued at around £70m by United, and Kobbie Mainoo at £80m-plus are two other homegrown players who were for sale in the winter market and will be again in the summer. But selling one or both would mean having to find a replacement.’

“He could have gone to…”: United star rejected deadline day move to PL side in favour of linking up with league leaders – report

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was delighted with the capture of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce during the January window.

Which is why he greenlit Tyrell Malacia’s loan exit with the Dane set to play as a left wingback in Luke Shaw’s absence which will allow Diogo Dalot to play on his favoured right side.

As relayed by The Peoples Person, the Netherlands international joined PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday with the Eredivisie outfit having the chance to make the move permanent in the summer for €10 million.

The Dutch star saw his loan move to Benfica collapse at the last minute but United did not panic and instead found him a new home back in the Dutch league.

                    Malacia could have joined Wolves

As per journalist Martijn Krabbendam, via Voetbal Verslaafd, the 25-year-old had the chance to join Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers as well but he chose Eredivisie leaders PSV instead.

The move has obviously not gone down well in Rotterdam where Malacia had come up through the ranks at Feyenoord but the left-back chose PSV as his chances of earning regular minutes there was comparatively much higher.

“A lot of people in Rotterdam are angry because he’s going to PSV. But Feyenoord already has three left backs, and that guy is just choosing his own career.

“He could also go to Wolverhampton Wanderers, but if PSV comes… Then you’ll just go play for PSV, right? I understand the sentiment, but players reason differently.”

                    Feyenoord fans not happy

There was also interest in his services from Real Betis and Celtic but United negotiated hard and earned him a move which also saw the club manage to insert a 30 percent sell-on clause.

Regular minutes was something Amorim could not provide the full-back. Since his return from injury, whenever he started for the Red Devils, Amorim has been forced to bring him off at half-time due to his rustiness.

This was always expected given the defender was out for more than 500 days due to a knee injury which saw him miss the entirety of the last campaign.

Malacia, who was former manager Erik ten Hag’s first signing, enjoyed a relatively successful debut season in which he made 39 appearances in all competitions while providing solid backup to Luke Shaw.

PL side are “admirers” of “stunning” £64m United star, plotting sensational £40m summer approach – report

So unimpressed has Ruben Amorim been with the attacking options at his disposal that he opted to start Kobbie Mainoo up front in Manchester United’s last Premier League game against Crystal Palace.

The move did not pan out the way the head coach would have liked but by placing both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee on the bench, Amorim sent a strong message to INEOS about what he felt about the strikers brought in by the club.

The Dane, in particular, has been a massive letdown in his sophomore campaign, managing only seven goals in 30 appearances this season with only two of them coming in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old is without a goal in 13 games now and has looked lost up front on his own in most games, struggling to do even the basics right.

Rasmus has been a huge disappointment

He has failed to hold on to the ball under pressure while his first touch keeps letting him down. After finishing as the top scorer in his debut season when pundits termed him “stunning“, expectations were sky-high but he seems to have regressed.

And Amorim is far from impressed and has effectively put him on trial till the end of the season and should he fail to rediscover his touch, United are open to letting him go.

Teamtalk have now revealed that West Ham United are keen on the Denmark international and could pounce for him in the summer should their gamble with Evan Ferguson not pay off.

United had paid an initial £64 million to secure the services of Hojlund from Atalanta but given his poor current form, INEOS are well aware that no club will come close to matching that figure.

As per the Teamtalk report, the Danish hitman “has admirers at West Ham ” including Graham Potter and United could be willing to let him go should the Hammers submit a £40 million bid.

“West Ham have identified Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund as a potential target for the summer should they not make Evan Ferguson’s loan from Brighton permanent, TEAMtalk understands.

“The 22-year-old has failed to live up to expectations since his £72m (including add-ons) move from Atalanta in the summer of 2023. He certainly has potential, but has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.

                      West Ham want Rasmus

“As a result, Man Utd ARE considering parting ways with Hojlund in the summer, with Ruben Amorim not convinced by the forward. The Red Devils have already accepted that they won’t be able to recoup what they paid as things stand.

“Sources state that a £40m bid could be enough to sign the Danish international if he doesn’t turn his form around this season.”

As previously relayed by The Peoples Person, there is also interest in Hojlund from Italy and it will be intriguing to see where his future lies once the season ends.

With Amorim’s attack looking threadbare due to lack of any January additions, Hojlund must start performing immediately or his United career might be over after only two seasons.
