“If you are lazy, he’ll kill you”: United new boy sheds light on Amorim’s training regime, aims subtle dig at superstar

Manchester United centre-back Leny Yoro provided a fascinating insight into Ruben Amorim’s training methods and how the Portuguese is a stickler when it comes to discipline even off the field.

Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have both faced the head coach’s wrath in that regard with the duo dropped from the Manchester derby matchday squad over concerns of their attitude outside the pitch.

And the Frenchman, in a chat with club legend Rio Ferdinand, explained that the Portuguese tactician is as involved in training as during official matches, and if someone is lazy, he “kills” that player, akin to Sir Alex Ferguson’s infamous hairdryer treatment.

“In training, it’s really, I would say, hard. But it’s important for him, training is really important because you play the game like you train. The most important thing is to be really good in training.

    How Amorim treats training

“If you are not working, if you are lazy in training, he won’t like you – he’ll kill you! It’s normal because, yeah, you play like you train.

“He’s really strict on this because, to win games and trophies, you need to be disciplined outside the pitch. You need to be punctual.”

There have been murmurs that Amorim had caught wind of Rashford’s habit of going out before games, which eventually led to the pair’s relationship deteriorating beyond repair.

Garnacho has come out of it as a stronger player, even going on to improve his relationship with the coach, something the Mancunian had failed to achieve. He is now on loan at Aston Villa.

Yoro has embraced that side of Amorim but that is not the only facet the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss has. As the 19-year-old revealed, Amorim is an empathetic man, who understands the trials and tribulations a modern footballer goes through.

    Amorim understands modern players

“I have a good relationship with Ruben Amorim. I just try to do what he asks me to do. He’s big on communication with the players because he played at a top level.

“He’s been at a lot of clubs, so he knows your feelings when you’re not playing or when you have a bad game. He knows how to speak with you, and that’s really important for me.”

This sheds light as to why Amorim was so successful at his previous club, where he handed debuts to plenty of talented youngsters who were ready to go through a brick wall for him.

While it has been a tough start for the coach at the Red Devils, United remain alive in the FA Cup and the Europa League and hopefully, the 40-year-old can inspire the club to some sort of silverware this season.

Man Utd transfer: Romano reveals key reason for £25m January signing with ‘growing salary’ deal secured

Man Utd transfer: Romano reveals key reason for £25m January signing with ‘growing salary’ deal secured

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed a key reason behind Manchester United’s move to sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce in January.

Dorgu was Man Utd’s only big-money signing during the winter transfer window. They invested around £25m plus add-ons to sign the left wing-back from Serie A outfit Lecce.

The Red Devils prioritised signing a left wing-back in January as they lacked a natural fit in this position for Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 formation.

With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia plagued by injury, Diogo Dalot and/or Noussair Mazraoui have often been used out of position at left wing-back under Amorim.

Man Utd were linked with several potential targets, including Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras. Despite this, the Premier League giants made 20-year-old Dorgu their leading option.

Dorgu should come straight into Man Utd’s first XI and will get plenty of game time during the run-in as he’ll make Amorim’s side more balanced.

The youngster made 57 senior appearances for Lecce, grabbing five goals and two assists. The versatile defender is also capable of playing on the right flank as he’s been used in various roles this season.

Romano has revealed that the defender will only earn £40,000 per week, though his ‘salary will grow’ as he gets deeper into his contract. He has also noted a key factor behind Man Utd’s decision to sign Dorgu in January.

He said: “Patrick Dorgu will start earning £40k a week at Man United, then his salary will grow in the final seasons.

“Man United wanted to get the deal done in January as they were aware of Napoli and Juventus both keen on Dorgu for the summer transfer window.”

Speaking on his move to Man Utd, Dorgu insisted head coach Amorim’s influence tempted him to join the Premier League side.

“It’s a huge club, it’s the biggest club in England,” Dorgu said in his first interview since joining Man Utd.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the new manager, Ruben. I feel this will suit me very well, so I’m excited to be here.”

He added: “I’ve heard only good stuff about him.”

Vowing to “bring a lot of intensity” to Man Utd, he continued: “For me it’s the most important thing, because there’s a lot of talking around football.

“You really need to be strong outside of football. When I’ve been in Italy, I lived alone. You need to be really good mentally to stay focused and be concentrating on football.”

Man Utd: Three Rashford ‘truths’ revealed after only ‘two’ clubs ‘engaged’; Amorim ‘frustrated’ for two reasons

According to reports, only ‘two’ teams ‘engaged’ Manchester United regarding a ‘temporary move’ for England international Marcus Rashford in January.

Rashford left Man Utd towards the end of the January transfer window, joining Aston Villa on loan with an option to buy for around £40m.

27-year-old Rashford has rightly been heavily criticised for his poor form over the past 18 months as he’s dramatically declined since scoring 30 goals in all competitions during the 2022/23 campaign.

It was hoped that the England international would return to form under Ruben Amorim, but he announced his intention to leave at the end of 2024 after butting heads with the new head coach.

The Red Devils struggled to offload Rashford amid his dire form and massive salary, but Aston Villa signed the forward after he was linked with AC Milan, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus.

READ: Seven loanees who could ’embarrass’ and ‘humiliate’ parent clubs like Rashford and Man Utd

A new detailed report from Sky Sports claims Amorim was ‘evidently frustrated with the forward’s lifestyle and lack of application’, with it clear ‘from the moment he stated he was ready for a new challenge that he did not intend to change his habits at the club’.

It is also revealed that Aston Villa and Turkish giants Galatasaray were ‘the only teams to engage United over arranging a temporary move’.

Regarding the reasons for other clubs snubbing Rashford, the report explains:

‘Borussia Dortmund enquired over the terms of a loan, while AC Milan and Barcelona spoke to Rashford’s camp. The former actively pursued Kyle Walker instead and the Catalans made it very clear that contract renewals were their priority.

‘Hansi Flick did not push for new signings, instead he convinced players that could have been sold to great financial benefit, like Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia, to stay at Barca.’

👉 Marcus Rashford labelled ‘lazy’ with ex-Man Utd player ‘surprised’ by Aston Villa’s ‘big gamble’

‘Sources in Spain maintain the club were only interested in an opportunistic deal during this window – a late and affordable loan swerving large salary responsibility – given Rashford was seen as a rotation option.

‘They billed him as the force pushing matters, and at United, it was well known prior to this season that the 27-year-old was coveting a move to Barcelona. Juventus, meanwhile, prioritised Randal Kolo Muani and got that switch sealed.

‘Villa was a surprising twist to all involved, and it presents Rashford with a defined structure and platform to thrive under Unai Emery; a manager with a talent for rejuvenating players.’

Man Utd have also reported realised three ‘truths’ about Rashford as they want him to ‘start being honest with himself’.

‘United are aware if he succeeds during this temporary spell, there will be fingers pointed at them but this does not change a few truths: the club have tried and failed to get a consistent tune out of Rashford under different managers, they have dealt with a series of disciplinary issues and they actually hope he does find his way.

‘The hierarchy have supported Amorim’s tough stance and sources that have worked with Erik ten Hag revealed he wished he could have been as strong with Rashford, but he could not take on another battle after Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho, while the Mason Greenwood situation also complicated matters.

‘Many at United sympathise with him, there are broken hearts at what is seen as a sad ending, but the overall feeling is a wish that Rashford starts being honest with himself and that the habit of enabling him and overlooking poor decisions from his circle stops.’

Amorim told he needs to quit United as he’s “totally out of his depth” – pundit opinion

Sports presenter Richard Keys has suggested Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is still trying to secrently leave the club despite being appointed head coach just two months ago.

United suffered a fifth defeat in seven home games last Sunday, as they were beaten 2-0 by Crystal Palace.

The result left the Red Devils languishing in 13th place in the Premier League table.

Towards the end of January, Keys argued that Amorim was trying to get sacked from his role at Old Trafford. He insisted that United should grant him that wish.

Keys made these comments after United slipped to a 3-1 loss vs. Brighton and Hove Albion.

Now, Keys has reiterated this belief, indicating that he thinks Amorim regrets succeeding Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout.

He wrote in his blog, “There’s not much to say about United this week. Poor again wasn’t it?”

“But it always is when they have to take a game to the opposition. If they’re sitting in a low block and stopping the opposition from playing they’re ok.”

“If they have to take a game to teams they struggle, which is why they’ve now lost seven home games.”

He added “As for playing Mainoo as a false 9? And you’ve got Hojlund and Zirkzee available. What are you actually saying to those players with a decision like that?”

“I’m afraid Amorim looks totally out of his depth. I wanted it to work, but it isn’t. He’s going to have to change and learn fast IF he wants to stay in the job. I’m still not convinced he doesn’t want out already.”

United are back in action on Friday when they host Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Video: “We have a group”: United new boy explains how Amorim is trying to address this huge problem

Manchester United summer signing Leny Yoro has revealed what the defenders and Ruben Amorim have been doing to try and fix the leaky backline.

United suffered their seventh home Premier League defeat last Sunday against Crystal Palace but even on a poor day for the club, Leny Yoro still impressed.

It will not have been easy for the 19-year-old to adapt to Amorim’s methods of a back-three but the head coach has tried to make things easier by including a lot of video analysis to improve the backline.

As Yoro revealed to club legend Rio Ferdinand on The Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, United have a separate WhatsApp group for the defenders wherein they are shown clips of the strikers they will be coming up against to help them understand how to go about their business.

            On United’s defensive WhatsApp group

He also explained specifics he focuses on, which provided fascinating insight into how meticulously he approaches the game.

“Yeah, yeah, of course. It’s (video analysis) important. We have a group on WhatsApp. With all the defenders, they send clips of the strikers, their movements, their runs.

“I am especially looking where to run, for example if the defender has the ball, for a long pass. Or for a cross with the first or second ball, everything is really important.”

The Frenchman was also man enough to speak of his tough encounter against Kamaldeen Sulemana of Southampton, a night where he got run ragged out on the right.

            On tough night vs Southampton

But his determined self shone through as he even explained that he looked at the post-match highlights more than 10 times to understand what he did wrong while also explaining how the game has made him an even better player.

“Yeah, I lost a lot of 1v1 duels and it was tough but it helped me improve. I looked at the clips almost 10 times to try and understand what I did wrong.”

The France U23 international has not had the best of starts for his new club since signing in the summer, suffering an injury early on in pre-season while having to bide his time to make his official debut.

But he has worked hard behind the scenes and showed amazing composure and maturity to come out even stronger post the injury as seen from his cameo against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

            His own personal analyst

Teammates like Harry Maguire have already tipped him for the top and now, after hearing him speak to Ferdinand, it is clear to see that the 19-year-old is working extremely hard behind the scenes to fulfill his enormous potential.

In fact, apart from analysis sent by the club, Yoro also employs his own private analyst to help him improve even further.

“And outside of that. I have one person who’s doing really a lot of clips on the striker for me to know. I had already someone in Lille, so I keep working with him.”

He is about to take on an even greater role in the absence of Lisandro Martinez and more starts are on the horizon for him. Amorim and the United fans will be hoping to see even better performances from him moving forward.

“By waiting until the summer” United can land 34-goal ruthless finisher for £23m less than his current price – report

Manchester United will now have to complete the rest of the season with two misfiring strikers after INEOS failed to strengthen in that department in January.

Joshua Zirkzee has four goals in 35 games since his summer move while Rasmus Hojlund has now not scored in 13 consecutive matches.

With Marcus Rashford sealing a loan move to Aston Villa, Ruben Amorim only has Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo as the remaining goalscoring options. Luckily, the Argentine still remained at the club despite a lot of interest.

INEOS failed with their deadline day attempts at agreeing a deal with Bayern Munich for Mathys Tel while loan moves for Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey and Christopher Nkunku of Chelsea also failed to materialise.

              United lack elite goalscorers

The Red Devils are languishing in 13th place in the Premier League while they still remain alive in the FA Cup and Europa League and Amorim clearly needs a lot of help to fix this mess.

Such is the dire situation that the Portuguese could be forced to turn to 17-year-old prodigy Chido Obi to address the alarming lack of goals.

Initially, Amorim had wanted the club to go all out to try and sign his former Sporting Lisbon protege Viktor Gyokeres but the Portuguese giants would only allow the Swede to leave if someone activated his release clause of £83 million.

As per i News, INEOS did not have the PSR leeway to approach the deal but it could be a blessing in disguise with the 26-year-old set to be available for much less in the summer.

Gyokeres will become cheaper next summer

Sporting will be open to selling the Sweden international for closer to £60 million in the next transfer window and despite the presence of Bayern Munich and Arsenal in the race, the 20-time English league champions remain confident of landing their man.

“A January move for Swedish goal machine Viktor Gyokeres was considered, but Sporting were reluctant to sell mid-season. It would have taken a bid of £83m – the former Brighton and Coventry striker’s release clause – to bring him in now.

“By waiting until the summer, Sporting are understood to be willing to let Gyokeres go for closer to £60m.”

Gyokeres has 34 goals in 33 games this season while also registering seven assists. Such is his form that he registers a goal involvement every 66 minutes.

On paper, he is the perfect fit having worked with Amorim before, who in turn has managed to unleash his full potential. Hopefully, after letting the coach down now, INEOS can land him in the summer.

Rashford and Tel set for exciting debut showdown but when will Guardiola play £79.4m pair?

Rashford and Tel set for exciting debut showdown but when will Guardiola play £79.4m pair?

Many Premier League signings made in the winter have not yet debuted. When might they, who should we be most excited to see and why is it Marcus Rashford?

The below ranking only includes first-team signings made in the 2025 January transfer window, who were also not then immediately loaned out.

                19) Wayne Hennessey (Nottingham Forest)

                Fee: Free

What the manager has said: “Unfortunately Wayne had a serious injury at the end of last season which was a tough moment for everybody inside the training ground. But he has improved and now he’s a big part of us, especially in the goalkeeping community which is a small group. He’s signed his contract and it’s a pleasure to have him around. His knowledge, his experience, the way he goes about his work, it’s really good to have him.”

When he should debut: When he has done enough research on Nazi Germany. Or if Mats Selz, Carlos Miguel and maybe even a couple of youth keepers suffer simultaneous catastrophes.

                18) Matai Akinmboni (Bournemouth)

                Fee: £810,000

What the manager has said: “Matai is a player that still very young, has only played, I think, 13 games in MLS and we think he can have a bright future, that’s why we signed him. He is a very young left centre-back who is a very good prospect. We have signed him on a long contract thinking that he can develop with us and fulfil the qualities that he has. He comes from a situation where he has had two months of holiday. He will start training with the development squad and will integrate after with us.”

When he should debut: Bournemouth’s ongoing injury issues have given Akinmboni a place in four Premier League matchday squads so it is theoretically close but Everton away in the FA Cup (February 8) feels by far his best bet.

                17) Mathis Amougou (Chelsea)

                Fee: £12.5m

What the manager has said: Nothing. Enzo Maresca almost certainly doesn’t know Chelsea have signed him.

When he should debut: Probably not this campaign outside of some potential Conference League experimentation. Transfer deviant Fabrizio Romano reckons the plan is to ‘stay for the next three months, develop with top players and then go to Strasbourg from next season to be a regular starter’.

                16) Ayden Heaven (Manchester United)

                Fee: £1.5m

What the manager has said: Ruben Amorim has been busy with other stuff but Jason Wilcox praised “an extremely talented defender who is ready to join our first-team squad in order to maximise his development”.

When he should debut: It could be sooner than envisaged after another long-term injury to Lisandro Martinez.

                15) Axel Disasi (Aston Villa)

                Fee: Loan (£5m fee)

What the manager has said: Nothing publicly yet but Disasi said Unai Emery “played a big part, because he explained to me the way that he sees things with me” and “when I spoke with him, he trusted in me”.

When he should debut: As soon as possible because Ezri Konsa is drowning, although Disasi is ineligible for the FA Cup tie against Spurs and then the Chelsea game a couple of weeks later; Ipswich in between (February 15) it is.

                14) Eiran Cashin (Brighton)

                Fee: £9m

What the manager has said: “He’s gained a lot of experience in the Championship, has a good profile and as a left-sided defender he will give us another strong defensive option.”

When he should debut: Brighton are not currently blessed with available centre-halves so it might well be soon.

                13) Ben Chilwell (Crystal Palace)

                Fee: Loan

What the manager has said: Nothing from Oliver Glasner yet but chairman Steve Parish reckons “he will prove to be a great addition to the squad”.

When he should debut: Doncaster away in the FA Cup (February 10) seems like an ideal launch pad for a player whose game time this season comprises of 45 minutes against Barrow in September.

                12) Nasser Djiga (Wolves)

                Fee: £10m

What the manager has said: Vitor Pereira was unavailable for comment as Wolves completed their business so late but sporting director Matt Hobbs welcomed “the quick, aggressive centre back we’ve been looking for to help the group”.

When he should debut: Perhaps against Blackburn in the FA Cup (February 9), especially because Liverpool and Bournemouth are next in the league.

                11) Kevin Danso (Tottenham)

                Fee: Loan

What the manager has said: “I think Kevin will be a great fit for us. We’re a little bit short at the back, have been for a while and he’s just really experienced, a good one-on-one defender. I’ve said before that getting new players in gives us energy and will give the group energy. I’m looking forward to him being part of the group.”

When he should debut: When he returns from the injury he’ll probably pick up in training. Otherwise, chuck him straight in at the deep end of a Carabao semi against Liverpool (February 6).

                10) Carlos Alcaraz (Everton)

                Fee: Loan

What the manager has said“Carlos has Premier League experience, he is still young and we believe he can bring some energy to the team which will help us between now and the end of the season.”

When he should debut: If not a cameo against Bournemouth in the FA Cup (February 8), the final Merseyside derby at Goodison straight after would be a wild start.

                9) Alex Palmer (Ipswich)

                Fee: £2.5m

What the manager has said: Kieran McKenna is presumably busy celebrating no longer having to watch Aro Muric to pass comment just yet.

When he should debut: West Brom were kind enough not to cup-tie him in their third-round defeat so a trip to Coventry, against whom Palmer has already kept a clean sheet this season, is looking good (February 8).

                8) Marshall Munetsi (Wolves)

                Fee: £15m

What the manager has said: Again, Pereira has better things to do with his time so Hobbs was sent out to say “it was important for us that Vitor has a number of options in each position and Marshall is a well-rounded midfielder who is physically up for the challenge of the Premier League”.

When he should debut: The Blackburn FA Cup tie (February 9) again looks appealing but Munetsi has played 21 games for Reims this season so match fitness won’t be a problem.

                7) Patrick Dorgu (Manchester United)

                Fee: £25.2m

What the manager has said: Possibly out of fear Amorim would say something unnecessarily eye-catching, Wilcox was rolled out to extol the 20-year-old’s “strong defensive and attacking attributes, adaptability and work-rate”.

When he should debut: Immediately. Diogo Dalot must be stopped.

                6) Marco Asensio (Aston Villa)

                Fee: Loan

What the manager has said: Emery does not tend to wade into such banalities as quotes on a new signing.

When he should debut: There is nothing stopping it coming against Spurs in the FA Cup (February 9).

                5) Vitor Reis (Manchester City)

                Fee: £29.6m

What the manager has said: “Welcome to them. To the City family. Really pleased. They are young players, so they come for many years. Different types. Reis is a young Brazilian, very exciting.”

When he should debut: After taking in games against Chelsea and Arsenal from the bench, 19-year-old Reis might get his chance soon.

                4) Evan Ferguson (West Ham)

                Fee: Loan

What the manager has said: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Evan in on loan until the end of the season. He’s a player we obviously know very well, so I’m grateful to the board for bringing him in.”

When he should debut: The West Ham striker curse should commence post-haste against Brentford (February 15).

                3) Nico Gonzalez (Manchester City)

                Fee: £49.8m

What the manager has said: Pep Guardiola was absolutely being weird somewhere else on deadline day so Txiki Begiristain said of his last signing: “Nico is a very talented young midfielder. He is an ideal acquisition for Manchester City.”

When he should debut: Leyton Orient in the FA Cup (February 8) or Real Madrid in the Champions League (February 11). It is a choice we will all have to make one day.

                2) Mathys Tel (Tottenham)

                Fee: Loan (£8.3m fee)

What the manager has said: Enough on the phone to convince him to join.

When he should debut: Liverpool. Carabao. February. 6. Or maybe Aston Villa in the FA Cup three days later.

                1) Marcus Rashford (Aston Villa)

                Fee: Loan

What the manager has said: Emery’s not said he’d rather play his goalkeeping coach instead yet so that’s something.

When he should debut: The narrative gods dictate it must be as soon as possible so The Discourse can commence in the hope of figuring out who was the problem all along. Spurs in the cup then.

“He has magic”: Player purrs over “electric” United loanee after his sensational debut

Real Betis defender Romain Perraud has opened up on the impact Manchester United loanee Antony has had on the club so far.

Antony sealed a loan move to Betis last month after struggling to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans at Old Trafford.

The winger will stay at Betis for the remainder of the season as he seeks to revive his struggling career.

Following a full week of training, Antony made his debut for the club last weekend, as they hosted La Liga rivals Athletic Bilbao at Estadio Benito Villamarín.

He was involved almost immediately, cutting inside from the right channel and firing an effort towards goal. Unai Simon saved Antony’s shot but could only manage to divert it into the path of a lurking Isco, who didn’t need a second invitation to tap it in from close range.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw and Antony was named the Man of the Match. Spanish newspaper El Desmarque described Antony’s performance as “electric”

Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini was full of praise for the 24-year-old, backing him to succeed in Seville.

Now, Perraud has branded the United winger as “magical.”

Perraud said [via Manchester Evening News], “Antony is a very good teammate. He played a great debut.”

“He provides a very important support for us. He has magic.”

United forked out a whooping £85million to secure Antony’s services from Ajax in the summer of 2022. He has since struggled, only managing 12 goals in 96 appearances.

It’s understood that the Red Devils’ intention is to still try and offload Antony in the summer. His contract with United expires in 2027.

Serie A chief reveals United”s “ultimatum” that forced them to agree to “historic” sale of Dorgu

Lecce president Saverio Sticchi Damiani has opened up on the events that occurred during transfer negotiations with Manchester United for Patrick Dorgu.

United recently confirmed the signing of Dorgu after striking a deal worth €30m plus an additional €5m in add-ons with Lecce.

Dorgu was presented to the United fans before Sunday’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace.

During the just-closed winter transfer window, Dorgu emerged as Ruben Amorim’s top target for the left-wing-back target and the club managed to secure his signature.

Previously, Lecce were insistent that Dorgu would not be sold in January under any circumstances. The Serie A minnows were only open to a summer sale, with other clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Juventus and Napoli also interested in him. However, United moved with speed to secure their man, perhaps in an effort not to get dragged into a bidding war.

Stichi Damiani has now explained how Dorgu’s switch to Old Trafford materialised. According to the Lecce president, the Red Devils wouldn’t stop pushing for the 20-year-old despite their stance that he would not be allowed to leave.

Keen on breaking the deadlock, United issued an ultimatum, telling Lecce and the player that it was now or never. This successfully turned Dorgu’s head.

Stichi Damiani also revealed that United were paying Dorgu’s fee in instalments.

He said [as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb], “Let’s start with the Dorgu operation which has the characteristics of the extraordinary. It is our record transfer and it happens in our moment of great economic health.”

“We said several times that Dorgu would not leave in January, and now I will explain why the opposite happened. Then Manchester United arrived, who made themselves heard by us and with the boy’s entourage, receiving an official response from us that I leave here, in which we said that we had no intention of letting Dorgu leave in January.”

“And not talking about figures, not asking for increases. This, instead of stopping United, had the opposite effect.”

He added, “Manchester United insisted. We asked several times to postpone everything until the summer, also promising the young man that he would not miss the opportunity. For us too it was a historic step, we just wanted to do it in July.”

“The English club communicated to us their desire, the club and its coach, to be immediate. There was an ultimatum, now or never, also giving this message to the player himself.”

“You cannot judge Dorgu, you are 20 years old and Manchester United comes to you with an offer like that. The combination of these factors led us to think that we would have gone from being consistent to being stupidly obstinate.”

“Dorgu’s fee will be paid in five years because even big clubs like Manchester United ask for instalments.”

Dorgu will be hoping to make his United debut on Sunday when the Red Devils host Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Marc Skinner gives injury update on key United star ahead of FA Cup clash vs. Wolves

Marc Skinner gives injury update on key United star ahead of FA Cup clash vs. Wolves

Manchester United Women boss Marc Skinner has admitted that Dominique Janssen is in a race against time to be fully fit and available for Saturday’s FA Cup meeting with Wolves.

United are set to take on Wolves at New Bucks Head in the fifth round of the competition.

Janssen, who has been a key player for United this season, managed 65 minutes of action in last Sunday’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur before she was taken off with an apparent injury.

Simi Awujo replaced her and saw out the rest of the game.

Ahead of the visit to Wolves, Skinner sat down with club media and said about Janssen, “We get an assessment today. So I think it was actually a physical knock, so hopefully it’s maybe a bit of bruising or something we can see.”

“I’ll update when we find out later today.”

On the impact Janssen has made to the team since her arrival in the summer from Wolfsburg, Skinner remarked, “I think Dom does so much of the hard work that nobody sees.”

“I think I’ve said this two or three times and what I hope is that people watch her game differently, and they don’t watch it just for what she does on the ball.”

“They watch for how much of the ground she covers. Watch how many times she makes the opponent turn away from playing forwards because she’s already in a blocking position, a screening position, and then she’s pressing.”

“And I think that’s a really important part, because what it does is then, it pushes them back the defensive line and we can press again. It’s those details that I want people to start watching, because I think she’s added so much quality to our team. I think that’s another reason why we are the way we are now.”

United are undoubtedly the favourites over Wolves. However, Skinner has urged his players not to be complacent as the hosts may spring a surprise.

“I think we say it’s ours because we’re the holders, but actually, there’s going to be a lot of other teams that want to take that from us for themselves. So I think that gives you that added incentive, that added energy, but we also want to represent our fans and the club. We’ve got a tough challenge, I know.”

“You know Wolves might be two tiers down, but actually, you know, they’ll try and make it a cauldron-based affair, I’m sure. And they’ll try and get the energy of their fans going.”

“We have to be at our very best, I have no doubt about that. That’s the challenge I have for our players and for our staff going into this game.”

Wolves vs. United kicks off at 17:15 GMT.
