Ratcliffe wants United to complete “dream signing” of world-class striker on a quest to break 19-yo PL record – report

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe would reportedly be open to signing Harry Kane from Bayern Munich after it emerged he has a release clause in his Bayern Munich contract, which has dropped significantly in recent days.

United held a long-standing interest in Kane before he sealed a £100million transfer to Bayern in 2023.

He was Erik ten Hag’s top transfer target but Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy refused to sell his talisman to a direct Premier League rival. United have since bolstered their striking department with the additions of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee – two players who are struggling to have an impact at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Kane has been a sensation at Bayern. While he has yet to lift a trophy with the Bundesliga giants, his performances have been nothing short of incredible, scoring  70 goals in 72 games.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Kane has a release clause in his Bayern contract.

The England captain was available for £67m in the January transfer window, but that clause will now be reduced to £54m next winter.

While there are no indications that he wants to leave Bayern, this development has alerted a number of clubs to his potential availability.

Now, journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed what Ratcliffe thinks about United making another attempt at finally securing Kane’s services.

According to Bailey [via TBR Football], Ratcliffe “would be on board” with sanctioning a pursuit of Kane. It’s understood that the INEOS chairman  “would love” for United to sign Kane.

“TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS earmarked Harry Kane as their dream signing once they took over Manchester United in 2023.”

“The English billionaire is a huge admirer of the Bayern number nine, who has amassed a staggering 55 goals in 50 Bundesliga games.”

“INEOS’ stance remains firm about not having any say on sporting decisions and they will not steer United’s footballing department in the direction of signing Kane; however, even they are big fans of the Tottenham legend.”

Bailey notes that Spurs have the first option on re-signing their former striker.

Even better from United’s perspective is that Kane “would still like” to return to the Premier League in the future. He has ruled out moves to Spurs’ London rivals like Arsenal and Chelsea.

Kane wants to break Alan Shearer’s record as the league’s top goalscorer. He is currently just 47 goals shy of Shearer’s 260 strikes.

Man Utd transfers: Agent of January transfer target reveals why he chose to remain at Bayern Munich

Alphonso Davies’ agent has revealed the extent of the transfer interest from Europe in his client, amid reports of Manchester United being linked.

The pacy left-back was set to leave Bayern Munich this summer with his deal due to expire, which put every major club in Europe on alert over the news of a potential bargain.

However, Davies crushed any hopes of a transfer swoop as he penned a new deal, which is set to keep him in Germany until 2030.

United were one of the clubs said to be interested, but they had to settle for the less experienced Serie A defender Patrick Dorgu, who arrived from Lecce in a deal worth £25million rather than a player with experience, pedigree and regarded as world-class in Germany.

The likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Madrid were reportedly lining up to sign the 24-year-old who has now played 220 times for the German club.

Ruben Amorim’s desire to persist with his favoured 3-4-2-1 formation at Man Utd means that the wing-back areas have become more important and the current personnel available aren’t familiar with that side of the game.

Tyrell Malacia departed for PSV Eindhoven while Luke Shaw has managed just 98 minutes of action this season due to injuries. Amorim has been forced to play the likes of Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui out of position on the left to compensate, but that side looks set to be dominated by the arrival of Dorgu.

      Davies’ agent on transfer situation

Davies’ agent Nick Huoseh has broken his silence and revealed everything in an interview with Winwin: “Real Madrid was definitely a serious option, and we had conversations with them, as well as with other clubs.

“But in the end, a decision had to be made, and that was to stay at Bayern Munich – of course, with all due respect to Real Madrid, who are a huge club, one of the most successful in history.

“It is always an honour for any player to receive an offer from a club like that, as well as from Bayern Munich or other big clubs in the Premier League.

“There was interest from some Spanish clubs, but as you know, we only really spoke to a few clubs, maybe three or four. In the Premier League, there was interest from two or three clubs. However, the player’s options were limited – only around five clubs showed genuine interest in signing him.

“When you leave a club like Bayern Munich, you don’t have many top-level options because you’re already at one of the best clubs in the world. If you look at the top clubs, Bayern are among the best.

“There was interest from Saudi Arabia, but it never got to an advanced stage because we didn’t want it to become a media story, as it sometimes happens, or to be used as a negotiating tool for a better contract in Europe. The player was simply not ready for a move to Saudi Arabia.

“I also want to make something clear: when it comes to a footballer’s career, there are many options. But staying at a big club for a long time is not a bad thing. Sometimes constantly changing clubs can be detrimental to a player’s career. Sometimes stability can be the best choice.”

Ruben Amorim told his tactical gamble could majorly backfire with duo left in limbo after Palace defeat – report

Manchester United’s latest bump in their woeful season to date came against Crystal Palace, at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Two second half goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta condemned United to their fifth home defeat in six in the Premier League, leaving Ruben Amorim with much to ponder once more.

Amorim has struggled to get his ideas across since his arrival in Manchester and continues to tinker with his players in a bid to find the antidote to United’s wretched form.

Kobbie Mainoo was tested in the centre-forward role on Sunday and despite a bright start, the move was quickly figured out by Palace who took control of the game after the early exchanges.

It was a decision that saw both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee resigned to a spot on the bench, leaving question marks over Amorim’s trust in his striking duo.

As reported by MSN news, speaking on the BBC, former Premier League striker Chris Sutton believes the Portuguese coach may live to regret his tactical gamble.

Sutton says the forward pair will be left wondering where they stand in the pecking order at Old Trafford and with a midfielder taking their spot, they could end up downing tools on their new head coach.

“‘How on earth is he playing in front of me?’ That is a real problem. Amorim is basically telling the pair of them that he doesn’t rate them in any way, shape or form,” Sutton said.

“He could lose these two players, mentally, for the rest of the season now and they might think about not applying themselves.”

Sunday’s game took place just days before the January transfer window slammed shut and the play may have been designed to force the hand of the United hierarchy with regards to bringing in an extra body in the winter market.

However, no such move materialised and Amorim is left make do with his current crop despite losing Antony and Marcus Rashford to respective loan deals.

The United coach now faces the second half of the season with just four first team attackers in his squad, including the disgruntled duo he left out on Sunday.

It promises to be a long finish to a season that has simply gone from bad to worse for United and Amorim will be desperate to make it to the summer in order to bring in suitable additions that will take him into his first full season in charge at the club.

Official: Man United confirm Lisandro Martinez has sustained an ACL injury

Manchester United have confirmed that Lisandro Martinez has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

He picked up the injury during last Sunday’s 0-2 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace.

In the second half, just moments after the Eagles took the lead courtesy of Jean-Philippe Mateta, Martinez engaged in a challenge with Ismaila Sarra and appeared to jar his left knee as he tried to turn.

He immediately hit the floor in pain. There was a lengthy pause as United’s medical staff attended to him. It soon became clear he wouldn’t be able to carry on and was stretchered off while crying.

Earlier this week, TyC journalist Gaston Edul revealed that Martinez tore his anterior cruciate ligament and now, this has been confirmed by United.

The club has issued a statement that reads, “Manchester United can confirm that Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace.”

“Assessment of the injury is ongoing to determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for his rehabilitation.”

“Everyone at Manchester United wishes Lisandro Martinez strength for a successful recovery and we will be supporting him every step of the way.”

After featuring only 14 times across the 2023/24 season due to three injury setbacks, Martinez has been a key player this term under both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim.

The World Cup winner has made 32 appearances across all competitions and has started all 20 Premier League matches he has been available for.

Martinez’s absence leaves Amorim with Harry Maguire, Lenny Yoro, Victor Lindelof, Matthijs de Ligt and new signing Ayden Heaven as his centre-back options.

Jonny Evans is also out with a fitness issue.

United are back in action on Friday when they take on Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup. After that, they travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, February 16.

Manchester United’s exciting academy product Shea Lacey has teased that he will be back in action soon for the academy.

The Red Devils currently have a wealth of exciting young talents at the club and this could be seen in their treble winning season last year.

The under 18s have also won an outstanding 11 out of 12 matches in the league this year and will face Chelsea in the Youth Cup next Wednesday.

Nonetheless, one of the club’s most exciting talents has barely been involved this season.

Such is Lacey’s potential that he has been compared to Wayne Rooney. As GiveMeSport commented, “the similarities between Lacey and Rooney are striking.”

The youngster has been in and around the under 18 side since he was 15 years old but he has had a nightmarish last few months with almost constant injury woes.

He did make a brief return in October when he played a match against Tottenham Hotspur, scoring a brace off the bench in a 4-3 loss.

Frustratingly, he picked up another injury shortly after but his latest social media post suggests he will be back on the pitch just in time for a crucial part of the season.

He took to X to post the words “Not Long”.

His brother Paddy Lacey also posted the news and lamented the injury hell his younger brother has had to go through over the past months.

“Been through hell the past 14 months. Watch him fly now. Proud of you little bro.”

It is unlikely he will be back in action this weekend against his hometown Liverpool but fans will hope he may be ready for the crucial Youth Cup tie next week against Chelsea, with the club aiming to win the trophy they last claimed in 2022.

Fabrizio Romano expects United to resurrect deal for 13 goal attacker still looking to leave in summer

                ´

Manchester United target Christopher Nkunku is reportedly likely to leave Chelsea in the summer.

The Red Devils were linked all January with a move for an attacker but in spite of letting Antony and Marcus Rashford go out on loan, no striker was brought in.

Nkunku was one of numerous options discussed by the club but no move came into fruition.

It was reported at the end of the month that the former Red Bull Leipzig attacker was pushing for a move to Old Trafford.

Nonetheless, as it turned out, Nkunku never had any intention of leaving Chelsea on loan in January and United did not have the financial wiggle room to make a permanent move after securing deals for Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated though that a move for Nkunku is far from dead, as it is likely the Frenchman will be leaving Stamford Bridge in just a few months.

Speaking on his YouTube channel he said, “Nkunku at Chelsea, for example, he was an option for Bayer in the beginning of the market. He was an idea for Man United, but he never wanted to leave on loan.”

“And now he’s staying at Chelsea. Let’s see how it goes in the second half of the season, because I have a feeling that Nkunku could leave Chelsea next summer, if there is a good opportunity.”

The 27 year old has not made as big an impression in England as he would have wanted despite his sparkling form in Germany earlier in his career.

The forward has scored 13 goals this season, more than any United player, but the majority have come in cup competitions.

Most of his league appearances have come from the bench and he will no doubt aim to move somewhere where he can start more regularly to showcase his talents, if he cannot make more appearances in the first eleven.

With United’s attacking options looking rather threadbare, Ruben Amorim’s side will surely look to bolster their attack over the summer and Nkunku could once again become a target if a deal is right.

According to reports, Manchester United chief Sir Dave Brailsford has ‘unveiled’ his ‘ambitious plan’ to win the Premier League to the staff at Old Trafford.

At the start of 2024, INEOS supremo Sir Jim Ratcliffe completed his minority takeover of the Premier League giants. As part of this deal, he took control of footballing matters at Old Trafford.

The British billionaire has made huge changes since joining Man Utd and has become a hugely unpopular figure for sanctioning a huge cost-cutting programme.

Ratcliffe has also been focused on overhauling Man Utd’s recruitment model as chief executive Omar Berrada, technical director Jason Wilcox and now-former sporting director Dan Ashworth joined the club.

Ashworth only spent around six months at Man Utd after departing Newcastle United to take a major role at Old Trafford and a report from The Times claims Brailsford’s ‘influence has grown’ since his exit.

READ: Manchester United, Spurs and Man City shamed by transfer efficiency ranking

Brailsford previously had a leading role in British Cycling and Team Sky and has been INEOS’ Director of Sport since the end of 2021.

The report claims ‘Brailsford has taken a more central role in revitalising the club’s performance culture after Ashworth’s departure’.

The report also noted that he has ‘unveiled a plan’ for Man Utd to win the Premier League title.

‘Sir Dave Brailsford has unveiled a plan to staff at Manchester United called “Mission 21”, aimed ambitiously at delivering a 21st English league title for the club.

‘Brailsford has been a constant presence since Ratcliffe and Ineos bought a 28 per cent stake in United 12 months ago and his growing influence comes at a time when Ruben Amorim’s team continue to struggle.

‘Amorim remains very much in charge of first-team matters, but Brailsford is now a central figure in driving what United hope is a transformation of the performance culture after years of decline.’

‘Brailsford has drafted this blueprint for United’s future with the assistance of James Morton, a professor of exercise metabolism at Liverpool John Moores University and the head of nutrition and physical performance lead at Team Sky when they were dominating the Tour de France. Morton, who grew up in Belfast, oversaw the nutrition strategy for the riders when they claimed their Tour victories in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

‘Prior to that, Morton actually worked at United’s big rivals, Liverpool. He was the club’s performance nutritionist from 2010 to 2015. He also advises the Premier League in a performance mentoring role.’

The report also reveals Man Utd’s ‘Mission 1′ relates to the women’s team’, which is part of the wider ‘Project 150 initiative’.

‘Brailsford and Morton presented their Mission 21 blueprint to senior performance staff at the club’s Carrington training ground late last year, prior to Ashworth’s departure.

‘They also unveiled “Mission 1”, the plan for the women’s team, who are seeking their first Women’s Super League title. Ratcliffe has been accused of failing to provide sufficient support for the women’s side at United, but this at least shows a level of commitment to Marc Skinner’s players.

‘Both Mission 21 and Mission 1 sit under United’s broader “Project 150” initiative, which was presented by the chief executive, Omar Berrada, last autumn and is linked to the club’s 150th anniversary in 2028.

‘While Roche is overseeing the modernisation of the club’s training facilities, not to mention the Old Trafford stadium redevelopment strategy, Brailsford’s focus is very much on performance.’

The 6th of February 1958, a date etched into the memory of all Manchester United fans and football supporters around the world.

Today marks the 67th year since the fateful day that United suffered one of the biggest tragedies in football history.

A sparkling side of academy players and youngsters led by Sir Matt Busby had won the league in 1957 and reached the semi-finals of the European Cup.

The 1958 season was shaping up for similar success as United’s brave talents had just defeated the mighty Red Star Belgrade and were headed into the semi-final of Europe again.

Then disaster struck. “On that day in 1958, the darkest day in United’s history, 23 people – including eight players and three members of the club’s staff – suffered fatal injuries in the Munich Air Disaster.”

In treacherous weather, the aircraft carrying United’s young team stopped in Germany to refuel. The first two attempts to take off from Munich airport were aborted but following a third attempt, the plane crashed.

The eight players who lost their life were Geoff Bent (aged 25), Roger Byrne (28), Eddie Colman (21), Duncan Edwards (21), Mark Jones (24), David Pegg (22), Tommy Taylor (26) and Liam Whelan (22).

Three club officials were also killed and they were secretary Walter Crickmer, trainer Tom Curry and coach Bert Whalley.

Two of the club’s most legendary figures also almost perished, Sir Bobby Charlton and the manager Busby but both recovered and would lead the club to their first European Cup in 1968, ten years later.

The tragedy rocked the club and global football to its core but United showed incredible resilience to fight on and actually won the first leg of their semi-final against AC Milan 2-1 before being soundly beaten 4-0 in Italy.

Moreover, the valiant youngsters made their way to the FA Cup final, before losing to Bolton Wanderers at Wembley.

To mark the solemn occasion there will be dedicated remembrance services held both at Old Trafford and in Munich today.

“The Manchester Munich Memorial Foundation will be leading the ceremony at Manchesterplatz, accompanied by director of fan engagement, Rick McGagh, and club ambassador, Andrew Cole. The service will start at 1.45pm GMT.”

At Old Trafford, the 67th anniversary service will take place from 14:45 GMT and supporters are invited to congregate under the Munich clock at 2.40pm.
