Manchester United manager Michael Carrick signed off the season in style with a 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion. The Englishman’s arrival in January, initially as caretaker manager to replace Ruben Amorim, turned out to be a turning point in the Red Devils’ season. Carrick had an instant impact, registering four wins on the trot and kickstarting a run that saw the English giants win 12 and draw three in 17 games. The former midfielder did not just steady a misfiring squad; he guided them to a third-place finish, and ensured that the Champions League will return to Old Trafford next season. United picked up the most points in the Premier League since the Englishman’s arrival, scoring goals for fun and dominating games. Carrick’s efforts ultimately earned him the prize he craved, with INEOS handing him the permanent position last week. A recent report has now outlined the secret behind the Red Devils’ rise under the English manager. Carrick relied on clear communication at United According to The Athletic, Carrick established a very clear line of communication early in his caretaker reign. The report states: “In his early days back at Manchester United in January, Michael Carrick asked his players a question: what would they consider their best position — and why?” “Carrick had already ranked, on a scale of one to three, the best roles he saw for each member of his squad, but he wanted to hear what those taking to the pitch believed themselves.” “He talked things through with his players in individual meetings and drew conclusions, before making his decisions on selections. People familiar with the matter, speaking anonymously, like others consulted for this article, say he had his own mind, but felt getting his players’ perspective was valuable.” “That collaboration was perhaps heightened by the immediate need to understand the squad he’d inherited, given his appointment midway through a campaign, but it does speak to his general approach.” Carrick’s approach made him different to Amorim The report went on to add that Carrick’s strong communication skills have endeared him to United players, stating: “Certainly, his communication is why he has such strong support from within the dressing room over his status as United’s head coach.” “It is in contrast to predecessor Ruben Amorim, who cut a more removed figure. Amorim felt detachment was required to instil discipline amid a turbulent period, but for several players it provoked confusion.” The report, however, pointed out that the Englishman will have to take a balanced approach to management following his permanent appointment, adding: “In moving from an interim to a permanent appointment, which was confirmed on Friday, the dynamic will shift for Carrick, and people who understand United believe blending strength with soft skills is a balance he will need to strike.” Final Thoughts United have not had much luck with managers since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, while they have also been let down by some poor recruitment in the past. INEOS got their transfer business correct last summer, and must repeat the trick this year to provide Carrick with the right platform to succeed. Since Michael Carrick was appointed, Manchester United have picked up more points (39) than any other Premier League team. Picture: United star makes brutally honest admission on his season in blunt message to fans
Manchester United forward Amad has opened up on his mixed season as he delivered an honest message to fans after the win against Brighton & Hove Albion. Rollercoaster season United wrapped up a superb 2025/26 campaign with a dominant 3-0 win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium. It was a comprehensive performance from Michael Carrick’s men, whose goals were scored by Patrick Dorgu, Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes. Amad registered the assist for Mbeumo’s finish, which capped off a sensational team move. The assist was just Amad’s fourth of the season. After a promising start that saw him feature heavily at right-wing-back in Ruben Amorim’s controversial 3-4-2-1 system, the Ivorian looked thoroughly comfortable in the position. However, Carrick’s appointment as Amorim’s replacement brought a return to his more natural right-wing role. While many assumed that moving closer to goal would lead to greater output from Amad, his contributions somewhat dried up instead. Even his performances nosedived a bit and he found himself on the end of some criticism from a section of fans. Carrick had already expressed his satisfaction with Amad’s performances, so he would surely have loved his more threatening showing at the Amex. Following the final whistle, Amad went on social media and seemingly admitted his performances hadn’t been up to scratch. He also pledged to do whatever it takes to rediscover his superb form. Amad’s message The 23-year-old wrote, “Another season comes to an end, amazing to be part of this great club.” “Looking forward to being back where we belong and competing for all trophies next season. The ups and downs are part of our profession, but I will keep learning and working hard to give my best for this football club.” He added, “Bruno Fernandes, congratulations on the 21 assists. You are a source of inspiration for all of us.” “Once again, thank you to the most amazing fans in the world for your constant support throughout this season. Your support pushes us to always fight for this club.” On top of his four assists, Amad contributed two goals in the 32 Premier League matches he played. Wilcox desperate to sign ex-Chelsea sensation, £55m star is now one of the best in his position in PL – report

Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, wants to raid Newcastle United in the upcoming summer transfer window. Newcastle endured a disastrous Premier League campaign under Eddie Howe, finishing 12th in the table and failing to secure European football. Last summer, Alexander Isak forced his way out of Newcastle. Now, the Magpies risk losing more key players. Manchester United determined to sign Lewis Hall According to CaughtOffside, Newcastle United boyhood fan Lewis Hall could become “one of the most interesting names of the summer window” with Manchester United making the left-back a priority target. United’s interest in the technically gifted Englishman, who is allegedly valued at £55 million, is believed to be “genuine”. It is claimed Jason Wilcox is “a big admirer of Hall and is pushing the club to look seriously at a deal.” Wilcox likes the 21-year-old because he is “left-footed, Premier League-proven and technically very comfortable.” The former Chelsea gem often likes to drift into midfield, underlining how at ease he is in tight spaces. More importantly, Luke Shaw, who surprisingly started all of United’s 38 league games this season, needs genuine competition following the departure of Tyrell Malacia. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Hall is considering his future at Newcastle after being left devastated by Thomas Tuchel’s decision to not include him in England’s World Cup squad. Sandro Tonali is also a Manchester United target Furthermore, United are also thought to be chasing Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, who has reportedly been pushing to leave the club since January. A separate report claimed that Michael Carrick has specifically asked the United hierarchy to sign the Italian box-to-box midfielder. Tonali is also admired at Manchester City, but his preference is to move to Old Trafford ahead of next season. (Video) “What he said is a lie!”: Fernandes reignites war of words with Roy Keane in fresh clapback
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has renewed his war of words with Roy Keane in a fresh response to the former midfielder. Keane slams Fernandes After the 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest earlier this month, Keane accused Fernandes of prioritising the Premier League assist record over the team. Fernandes assisted Bryan Mbeumo’s goal to equal the Premier League assist record that was jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. But Fernandes could have been clear well before Mbeumo found the back of the net, had the Cameroonian and his fellow attackers converted some of the golden opportunities that the skipper fashioned for them. Mbeumo would later admit that he felt that he somewhat let down Fernandes. Keane, however, offered a sharply contrasting view, delivering a stinging critique of the Portugal international. He accused Fernandes of orchestrating a “circus act,” explaining that the player’s gimmicks evoked both “raging” and “cringing” reactions from him. In an interview with Sky Sports, Fernandes made it clear that he would never prioritise individual accolades over collective team objectives. Now, the 31-year-old has issued an even more forceful response to Keane, insisting outright that he lied. Fernandes fires back Speaking on The Diary of A CEO podcast, Fernandes said, “I don’t mind criticism. I always take criticism from everyone and never reply to anyone whatsoever. People have an opinion, they think it’s good, bad or whatever.” “What I don’t like is when people lie about things, and in this case, what you said about Roy Keane, basically, what he said is a lie.” The 2025/26 Premier League Player of the Season added, “Luckily for me everything is on record. Imagine if it wasn’t, then people will think Bruno is always the guy going for the assist.” “I even asked Ole his number to text him to have a word with him, to say ‘I don’t mind the criticism, I don’t like when people lie about the things that I say’ because this goes over the top of the things I think are acceptable.” “What I don’t like is when people lie about things, and in this case, what you said about Roy Keane, basically, what he said is a lie.” Bruno Fernandes responds to Roy Keane pic.twitter.com/v5BItxAlhL — Steven Bartlett (@StevenBartlett) May 25, 2026 Fernandes’s assist for Patrick Forgu’s opener in the Brighton match saw him become the outright holder of the assist record. He later added his ninth goal of the season, lifting his combined goal contributions to 30. “An honour to wear this shirt”: United defender sends farewell message after final appearance for club

Tyrell Malacia sent a farewell message to fans, staff and his teammates after making his final appearance for Manchester United during Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion. Exit sealed United announced that Malacia will be leaving last week after the thrilling 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest. The defender was an unused substitute, but head coach Michael Carrick still invited the fans to applaud him in his post-match speech at Old Trafford. Malacia joined United from Feyenoord in the summer of 2022, arriving as the first signing of the Erik ten Hag era. He enjoyed a very positive maiden season at United that saw him make 35 appearances across all competitions. But he was unable to build on it as he sustained a serious injury that necessitated multiple surgeries. He was sidelined for 17 months and only returned to action in November 2024. But he found playing time extremely hard to come by under Ruben Amorim. This prompted the club to loan him out to PSV Eindhoven for the second half of the 2024/25 campaign. He didn’t pull up any trees there and the Eredivisie outfit opted against keeping him permanently. United attempted to sell him last summer but a move did not materialise. The Dutchman came off the bench in the closing stages of the triumph against Brighton, in what was his final appearance for the Red Devils. Malacia’s message The 26-year-old took to X and posted a farewell message to United and everyone associated with the club. He wrote, “Grateful for every moment, every challenge and every memory.” “Thank you to the fans, my teammates, the staff and everyone at the club for the support throughout this journey. It’s been an honour to wear this shirt.” “Wishing the club all the best for the future.” Grateful for every moment, every challenge and every memory. ❤️ Thank you to the fans, my teammates, the staff and everyone at the club for the support throughout this journey. Career of ex-United star Van de Beek stoops to new low after latest crushing setback
Former Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has been hit with a fresh blow as his career woes deepen. United nightmare When Van de Beek signed for United from Ajax in 2020, the move was met with significant fanfare and high expectations. However, to characterise his time in England as merely underwhelming would be a considerable understatement. United forked out £35m + £5m add-ons to secure his services, beating the likes of Real Madrid in the transfer race. The Dutchman arrived off the back of an excellent 2019/20 season with Ajax, where he was a key part of the Erik ten Hag team that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2019. Van de Beek struggled for regular playing time under then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In the 2020/21 season, Van de Beek started only four Premier League games, contributing one goal in that period. The subsequent campaign saw him play even fewer minutes. He scored his second and final top-flight goal as a substitute in Solskjaer’s last game, a 4-1 defeat to Watford. He was then loaned to Everton in January 2022 but his fortunes at Goodison Park didn’t improve much. Even Ten Hag’s appointment as United manager could not breathe life into Van de Beek. Another loan to Eintracht Frankfurt followed but he also failed to make an impact at the Bundesliga club. The player permanently left United for Girona in July 2024 for a nominal €500k fee. New low When Van de Beek joined Girona, it was an exciting time for the club as they were preparing for their first-ever European campaign. However, less than two years later, the City Football Group-owned team has been relegated from La Liga, marking a fresh new low for Van de Beek in his career. Girona ended the season in 19th place with a paltry 41 points, a mere 12 points above rock-bottom Real Oviedo. Girona’s 1-1 draw with Elche on Saturday all but confirmed their fate. Van de Beek, who missed a huge chunk of the season with an Achilles tendon rupture injury, only managed two top-flight appearances. But he’s not the only former United player in the squad, with Daley Blind also part of the group that has gone down to Spain’s second tier. United want to finalise first signing quickly, Ineos “love” CL winning superstar – Fabrizio Romano
Manchester United are set to accelerate their efforts to secure their first signing of the summer. United wrapped up their campaign away from home at Brighton, thrashing the Seagulls 3-0 to take their points tally to an impressive 71. Now, it is time to build on this momentum and enter the next season with a much stronger squad. Manchester United pushing to sign midfielder before World Cup According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are in discussions with several players. The Italian journalist states: “So from what I understand, Man United are discussing with several players and then quite soon before the World Cup, they will decide at least one target they want to attack and go and close the deal.” The World Cup in the United States kicks off on 11 June. Romano specifically shines a light on the situation of Atalanta midfield dynamo Ederson, claiming the Brazilian is keen on moving to Old Trafford, so much so that he has paused talks with all other suitors. The relationship between Atalanta and United is understood to be very good. “For sure the Ederson deal is eventually almost ready. It’s on United to decide whether they want to proceed or go on different targets,” he adds. Manchester United keen on Aurelien Tchouameni However, Ederson is not United’s dream midfield target. Romano suggests that Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni is seen as the “ideal player” internally at United, who view him as another Casemiro. “They love Tchouameni at Man United, but at the same time, Tchouameni is a really important player for Real Madrid,” said Romano. Real, who are working on appointing Jose Mourinho, are yet to open the exit doors for Tchouameni, who is set to be part of France’s World Cup squad. As such, United may decide to get deals over the line for alternative targets rather than wasting their time chasing their dream option. “Means so much to me…”: 23 g/a United target provides major update on his future
Manchester United ended the season on an impressive note with a 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex on Sunday, 24 May, in the Premier League. Goals from Patrick Dorgu, Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes, who also picked up his record-breaking 21st Premier League assist of the season, helped the Red Devils secure all three points on the final day of the campaign. United have now scored 69 goals in the league this season, which is a huge improvement on their return of 44 goals last campaign. The decision to invest in Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko has already paid dividends, with the trio getting into double figures this season. The focus is now set to shift to the transfer market, with the Red Devils expected to invest heavily in the squad before the start of the new season. A new midfielder is the absolute priority, with Casemiro set to leave this summer as a free agent. However, the English giants are likely to seek further attacking reinforcements amid the uncertainty surrounding Joshua Zirkzee’s future. A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person suggested that United have their eyes on West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen as a low-cost option for the job. Premier League experience will entice United Bowen arrived at the London Stadium from Hull City in January 2020 and swiftly became a first-team regular. He has been indispensable for the Hammers ever since and has turned heads at clubs across the Premier League. This season, the 29 year old has registered 11 goals and 12 assists in 42 games across all competitions for West Ham, all of which were starts. Bowen found the back of the net in West Ham’s 3-0 win over Leeds United on Sunday in the final game of the season. However, the Englishman’s efforts were not enough as the London side finished 18th in the Premier League and were relegated to the Championship. The situation has added to speculation regarding his future, providing United with an opportunity to secure his signature for a reduced fee. Bowen’s versatility also makes him an enticing option for the Red Devils, but the player has now issued a defiant update on his future that could scupper their plans. Bowen hints at West Ham stay Speaking after Sunday’s game, Bowen expressed his disappointment at how the season had unfolded. He said: “I’ve been here six and a half years now. Had a lot of good moments and this outweighs all of it. Getting this club relegated… it hurts.” When asked about his future and the growing interest in his signature, the Englishman gave a bullish response, adding: “It’s disrespectful to everyone to start talking about that.” “I want this club to be in the Premier League. It’s a club that means so much to me and has given me so much so my vision is to get this club back in the Premier League.” Final Thoughts While United may not have much luck in their pursuit of Bowen, West Ham’s relegation could provide them with the perfect opportunity to secure Mateus Fernandes. Exclusive: Wes Brown picks his best four Man Utd stars in 25/26
Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown chose the club’s top three players this season alongside Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese playmaker was the ultimate best player this season, not only for Man Utd, but in the Premier League.Unsurprisingly, the 31-year-old dominated the end-of-the-season accolades, winning the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Men’s Footballer of the Year award, as well as the EA SPORTS Premier League Player of the Season.Wes Brown hails Casemiro after an exceptional campaignDue to his sensational exploits, Fernandes is the solitary choice when it comes to choosing Man Utd’s Player of the Year for 2025/26.Hence, we asked Brown to choose United’s second-best player, and he opted for Casemiro, while adding Harry Maguire and Senne Lammens as honourable mentions.“I would probably go Casemiro, then Harry Maguire, then Lammens,” said the 2008 Champions League winner in his exclusive interview with Stretty News, in collaboration with Netbet World Cup betting odds.“Casemiro got a lot of stick last year. His age is coming up a bit, and we’ve all been there as ex-players. But I think this year he’s just shown, you know, he can go out on his own terms. He’s in the quality stage. He’s got some important goals, the most he’s ever scored in a season.Casemiro had already announced his exit at the end of the season since January. Despite receiving outpouring pleas to stay at MUFC for another year, the midfielder insisted the decision has been set in stone, and Brown believes the Brazilian knows what will be the best move for his career.“This guy’s won five Champions League titles. He knows what to do. It’s up to him whether he still wants to do it or not, but he knows what to do.“The full experience came out and he’s run himself into the ground, which is what, as a fan, any fan, you want to see.”Brown urges Man Utd to bring back John O’SheaBrown spent the majority of his playing career at Man Utd, playing alongside a host of legends and top stars, including Michael Carrick. While the latter has been confirmed as a permanent head coach with Jonny Evans a part of his crew, we asked Brown which other MUFC teammate the club should bring back to Carrington for a managerial or backroom role. The retired defender didn’t hesitate before picking John O’Shea, who currently serves as the Republic of Ireland assistant coach under the tutelage of head coach Heimir Hallgrímsson.“It has to be Jon O’Shea. I think, first of all, you have to be able to get on with people. He has very good experience now. I know he’s at the Irish first team. He’s got the iron set up. He’s had experience at Reading, a bit of the lower league division. But again, he’s won everything, knows what to do, got the right mentality and mindset. And obviously knows the club. “I think it’s important that as well, because not everyone can just roll into United and assume what’s going on straight away and how it’s been in the past. I think sometimes you have to forget about the past, but also remember how everyone got there and did stuff. And I just think it could be a good combination.”
