Manchester United are set to accelerate their efforts to secure their first signing of the summer. United wrapped up their campaign away from home at Brighton, thrashing the Seagulls 3-0 to take their points tally to an impressive 71. Now, it is time to build on this momentum and enter the next season with a much stronger squad. Manchester United pushing to sign midfielder before World Cup According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are in discussions with several players. The Italian journalist states: “So from what I understand, Man United are discussing with several players and then quite soon before the World Cup, they will decide at least one target they want to attack and go and close the deal.” The World Cup in the United States kicks off on 11 June. Romano specifically shines a light on the situation of Atalanta midfield dynamo Ederson, claiming the Brazilian is keen on moving to Old Trafford, so much so that he has paused talks with all other suitors. The relationship between Atalanta and United is understood to be very good. “For sure the Ederson deal is eventually almost ready. It’s on United to decide whether they want to proceed or go on different targets,” he adds. Manchester United keen on Aurelien Tchouameni However, Ederson is not United’s dream midfield target. Romano suggests that Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni is seen as the “ideal player” internally at United, who view him as another Casemiro. “They love Tchouameni at Man United, but at the same time, Tchouameni is a really important player for Real Madrid,” said Romano. Real, who are working on appointing Jose Mourinho, are yet to open the exit doors for Tchouameni, who is set to be part of France’s World Cup squad. As such, United may decide to get deals over the line for alternative targets rather than wasting their time chasing their dream option.
