United face five fierce adversaries in fight to land elite Brazilian midfielder – report

Manchester United have endured a frustrating summer so far, where Matheus Cunha has been their only addition to the first team.

The Red Devils are still locked in negotiations for Bryan Mbeumo and have up to this point, failed to sell any of a growing list of unwanted players like Jadon Sancho, Antony, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

United currently need to sell to buy and this is far from ideal as manager Ruben Amorim is keen to bolster his squad in numerous positions.

Midfield department needs strengthening

Whilst most of United’s focus has been on the attack, with the exit of Christian Eriksen, the club certainly needs at least one midfield addition.

As a result, they have been linked to numerous midfielders such as Javi Guerra, Wilfred Ndidi and Ederson.

One player United have liked for a long time is former Aston Villa midfield warrior Douglas Luiz, who currently plays his football in Serie A for Juventus.

It has been reported that the Old Lady have agreed that they could send Luiz as a direct swap for Jadon Sancho if the Englishman finally agrees a wage structure with the Italians.

Growing competition for Luiz

Italian outlet Calciomercato report that a deal will not be easy for the midfielder due to an increased amount of competition for him.

The outlet states that “Douglas Luiz remains on the way out of Juventus” and he is very popular among Premier League clubs.

It has previously been reported that Everton and Fulham are also keen on the player’s services.

Fresh reports indicate that Newcastle United and Leeds United can also be added to the list of teams hot “on the trail” of the Brazil international.

Italian threat

Calciomercato report that Como have recently thrown their hat into the ring for him. The report explains that “there is the desire of Como to try to make an attempt for the Brazilian midfielder” on the specific instruction of manager Cesc Fabregas.

Nonetheless, it has been stated that Luiz prefers a move back to England, so United will most likely have an advantage over Como at least in the race for the midfielder.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
