Manchester United have a rich history of young players rising from the academy to the first team.
Last year alone saw the likes of Toby Collyer, Chido Obi, Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson make their debuts for the senior team after rising through the academy.
United’s Sonny Aljofree will be hoping that one day he can join that list but it looks like he will need to go on loan for another season to follow in their footsteps.
The centre back already impressed at youth team level, captaining the under-21 side but he took another step in the right direction in 2024/2025.
Impressing on loan last season
The youngster was impressive last season for Accrington Stanley in League Two, becoming a regular in The ‘Owd Reds’ first team.
The 20 year old played 27 games in all competitions, scoring three goals during the season.
The next step
The Mirror now report that Aljofree could be on his way to Notts County to continue his education in senior football.
The outlet states that “Notts County are working on a loan deal for Manchester United’s highly-rated young centre-back, Sonny Aljofree.”
Notts County are not the only team to be showing interest in the 20 year old but they are the side who are currently discussing a loan with United.
A step in the right direction
A move to Nottingham would be a good move forward in his career as The Magpies finished sixth last season but missed out in the playoffs.
They will be hoping for promotion this upcoming season and will play a more dominating type of football than Accrington Stanley did last season.
Aljofree impressed in 2025 but his team struggled, finishing 21st, narrowly avoiding relegation to the non-league.
If he is successfully loaned out to Notts County, he will hope to feature just as regularly as he did last season. What’s more, the team usually play with three defenders at the back, like Accrington Stanley, so the adjustment should be easier for the United starlet, if a loan deal is completed.
