United confirm fantastic news on first-team duo ahead of must-win clash against Sunderland

Manchester United have confirmed that Amad and Tyrell Malacia have both returned to training ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Sunderland.

United issue Amad and Malacia update

In a Wednesday update, United confirmed that Amad and Malacia are back in full training with the squad after spells out for entirely different reasons.

Amad has consistently featured for United this season but missed last weekend’s clash against Brentford due to personal reasons.

In his pre-match press conference, Ruben Amorim revealed that Amad would not be available for selection due to a family bereavement. In the Ivorian’s absence, Amorim opted for Diogo Dalot at right-wing-back and Bryan Mbeumo in the right-sided number 10 position.

Meanwhile, Malacia has been welcomed back into the group after a period of being exiled from the first team.

Malacia was part of the infamous ‘bomb squad’ which also included the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho. While the other four secured permanent or loan exits, Malacia was not so lucky and did not land a club.

He had been training with the Under-21s but has now been reinstated to the senior squad.

This likely means that the Dutch defender could be in the matchday squad for the crucial game vs. Sunderland this weekend.

United looking to bounce back

United go into the clash with Sunderland eager to make a statement, with the weight of pressure firmly on Amorim’s shoulders.

The 40-year-old coach’s club future has been the subject of intense speculation over the past few days, amidst suggestions that the Red Devils could sack him following an extremely poor start to the 2025/26 campaign.

The loss to Brentford was United’s third in six top-flight games.

While the returns of Amad and Malacia boost United, Amorim remains unable to call upon Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez due to injury.
