Oliver Glasner to Man United saga takes new shocking turn after major update – report

Manchester United’s pursuit of Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has taken a surprise new turn, even as pressure on Ruben Amorim mounts.

Amorim under increasing pressure

Amorim is facing a tough fight to keep his United job amidst the club’s extremely poor start to the 2025/26 season.

The Red Devils currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League table, having lost half of the six games they’ve played. United were also dumped out of the Carabao Cup by League Two minnows Grimsby Town in the second round of the competition.

The latest defeat, a 3-1 humbling at the hands of Brentford, left plenty to be desired about Amorim and his approach. Doubts over whether he is the right man for the job are intensifying.

The United hierarchy, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are thought to still have faith in Amorim but they will almost certainly be forced to take immediate action if results and performances don’t improve.

Already, there are rumours that United have lined up potential replacements for Amorim. Names like Gareth Southgate, Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola have come up.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Glasner would take the United job in a heartbeat if it was offered to him.

The Palace manager himself admitted that he has been keeping close tabs on the situation at United and how it’s developing. However, a fresh update has indicated that Glasner would not mind staying at Selhurst Park, especially if the London outfit match his ambitions.

Additionally, the Eagles are also preparing to hand him a new deal in an effort to scupper United’s swoop for him.

Glasner chase takes fresh turn

Journalist Graeme Bailey revealed for We Are Palace that Glasner is willing to remain with Palace if the club’s owners show they are ready to provide him with the tools needed to be competitive.

Bailey said, “Oliver Glasner is still Crystal Palace manager, he still has ambitions in South London.”

“But ultimately the club need to match them. If Glasner is a top-four quality manager as he looks to be, can Palace keep him?”

“Maybe but it is going to be very difficult.”

Bailey further noted that Palace are working on a new deal for Glasner by the new year, although it may be too late, with Amorim teetering on the edge.
