Man United ‘prepared’ to make move to sign 26yo midfielder if opportunity arises to bring player in: report

Man United are still waiting patiently, ready to pounce on a move to sign Frenkie de Jong if the chance presents itself.

Perhaps the biggest transfer saga of the Erik ten Hag tenure so far at Manchester United is a possible move to bring in Frenkie de Jong.

It feels like our Dutch manager is infatuated by the possibility of signing his compatriot, and at any cost, too…

United have tried to sign De Jong in both of Ten Hag’s summer transfer windows. Why not make it a hat-trick?

It’s Sport, (via Sport Witness), with the latest claims on that front. Apparently, there is once again uncertainty about De Jong’s future at FC Barcelona.

The Dutchman himself would prefer to stay at the Camp Nou, which seems to be a running theme every single time United are linked with a move to sign the ex-Ajax midfielder. He has endured a difficult campaign due to injuries.

Barcelona are trying to get De Jong to sign a contract extension at this moment in time, with his current deal expiring in 2026. Barca want to protect themselves, which is understandable.

If the parties cannot come to an agreement soon, United could look to pounce. The Reds are said to be ‘prepared’ to make a move to sign the 26-year-old midfielder, assuming the opportunity arises. They could also face competition from PSG.

In our opinion, this still feels like a long shot. Barca do not want to sell. De Jong doesn’t want to leave. I understand that things can change very quickly in football, though this is a player who has already turned down United on numerous occasions. After a bad season for the Old Trafford club, are we really expected to believe that is going to change?

Do you think a Man United move to sign Frenkie de Jong is still a realistic possibility? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
