Man United ready to present ‘formal offer’ to 25yo defender this summer if he decides to leave current club: report

Man United are willing to make an official move to sign Ronald Araujo, assuming he’s ready to leave Barcelona.

We’ve said it time and time again. Manchester United will sign a defender of some description this coming summer. Quite frankly, it’s probably the biggest need for the Old Trafford side all things considered.

Names like Jarrad Branthwaite and Jean-Clair Todibo seem to be atop the list, though INEOS are doing their due diligence and scouring the market for other options – including Ronald Araujo.

The man from Uruguay currently plies his trade for FC Barcelona over in Spain, while reports from the same country believe United are keen on bringing him in.

It’s Sport Witness with the translation. They relay information from both Sport and Mundo Deportivo in their article. Apparently, the Reds will face competition from Bayern Munich for Araujo this coming summer.

The defender is locked in contract talks with Barca, who are keen to tie him down to a new deal. His current contract expires in 2026, with the Catalan side looking to extend that.

Although Araujo would be keen on continuing with Barca, his entourage are now considering their options amid interest from United and elsewhere.

Sport states that United are ready to present a ‘formal offer’ to the 25-year-old defender this summer, assuming he decides to leave Catalonia.

There can be no doubt that Araujo would offer some consistency and solidity to an area of the field that needs it. However, this does feel like a long shot.

Barca are under no pressure to sell this summer, while it does feel like the player would prefer to stay at the Camp Nou as things stand.

Perhaps the only way United could persuade Araujo to leave is by offering a mega-money contract. However, that’s something the Old Trafford side are trying to eradicate under INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

For now, this feels like a long shot, but things can change very quickly in football so I wouldn’t completely rule it out.
