Journo confirms exactly what it will take for Man Utd to sign ‘sensational’ target before deadline day, he wants the move

Manchester United remain firm admirers of Gianluigi Donnarumma amid his contract stalemate with Paris Saint-Germain.

Following yet another turbulent campaign from Andre Onana between the sticks at Old Trafford, INEOS are contemplating whether to grant Ruben Amorim a new No.1 for his first full season in the dugout.

Last term, Onana conceded 65 goals in the 50 appearances he made in all competitions. When he was omitted from the squad for United’s final league game of 2024/2025 at home to Aston Villa, it prompted speculation that he would be offloaded when the window opened.

Onana nearing United return after injury setback

His exit has yet to materialise since June, although he has garnered interest from AS Monaco and sides in Saudi Arabia, meaning a deal could still come to fruition before deadline day.

Additionally, Onana has not featured in United’s pre-season fixtures due to a hamstring injury. It’s anticipated that he will return to full fitness in time to start against Arsenal on the Reds’ opening day this Sunday, with Altay Bayindir expected to drop back to the bench.

In the meantime, United’s links with Donnarumma have ramped up the longer he’s been at an impasse with the PSG board.

The Italian colossus, 26, has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Parc des Princes, and has yet to agree to new terms or an extension that would keep him in Paris beyond June 2026.

Unwilling to lose such a valuable and ‘sensational’ asset for nothing in less than 12 months’ time, PSG have made the shot-stopper available for a cut-price fee of £26 million – making it no surprise INEOS are sizing up a swoop.

Fabrizio Romano claimed United’s key decision makers were currently considering pursuing a cheaper and younger option, such as Senne Lammens, or going all-out for a proven and experienced ‘keeper like Donnarumma.

It’s also been claimed that the Euros winner is attracted to the prospect of representing the 20-time champions after four years with the Ligue 1 giants.

For Donnarumma to make the move in the coming weeks, journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft expects United will need to facilitate sales beforehand, having already overseen three mega-money transfers this window.
