Manchester United Women are back in action this weekend, with an away WSL game against West Ham United at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

Fresh from the fabulous Adobe FA Cup semi-final triumph over Manchester City on Sunday, the push to finish as high as possible continues with the test against the east Londoners.

The Reds are in third spot at the moment behind Arsenal and leaders Chelsea.

Here is the lowdown on the fixture, including how to watch and follow the events as they unfold…

90 in 20: City v United Women

You’ll want to watch the extended cut of Sunday’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup semi-final…

HOW TO WATCH AND FOLLOW

The game kicks off on Saturday at 12:00 BST in Essex and, although it is not live on MUTV due to live Sky Sports coverage, we will be providing radio commentary on our channels.

Liam Bradford and Jess Sigsworth are on duty, providing you with the best coverage of every kick.

Highlights will follow in due course, after analysis, reaction and updates in the United App and on ManUtd.com.

TEAM NEWS

Celin Bizet proved her fitness by scoring in the weekend win over Manchester City at the Joie Stadium but coach Marc Skinner will be carefully assessing his troops ahead of this latest outing.

Gabby George may need to be checked after coming off during the semi-final.

Hannah Blundell and Evie Rabjohn have been sidelined, although the latter is back on the grass at Carrington.

For the home side, Jess Ziu has been out with a long-term knee injury but is making progress.

FORM GUIDE

The Reds have lost only one of our last 10 matches in all competitions, the 3-1 reverse to Liverpool in mid-March.

The 2-0 victory over City in the FA Cup ensured a third successive clean sheet and morale must be high after reaching Wembley again, for a third season on the trot.

West Ham sit seventh in the WSL table, at the time of writing, and, after an entertaining 4-3 reverse to Arsenal, they are in decent form.

A 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur was sandwiched between creditable draws with Manchester City and league leaders Chelsea.

Rehanne Skinner’s side have yet to play this month and should be well rested for this encounter.

WHO ELSE IS PLAYING?

Saturday 19 April

Brighton v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

Sunday 20 April

Manchester City v Everton (13:00 BST)
Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa (14:00 BST)

Wednesday 23 April

Man Utd star Leny Yoro sends message after Thierry Henry slams display vs Newcastle

Man Utd centre-back Leny Yoro has seemingly broken his silence on Thierry Henry’s comments about his performance against Newcastle.

Alejandro Garnacho cancelled out Sandro Tonali’s opener for the Magpies as the Red Devils went in level at the break at St James’ Park.

But two goals from Harvey Barnes and another from Bruno Guimaraes blew Man Utd away in the second half as Newcastle came out 4-1 winners.

And Arsenal legend Henry singled out 19-year-old Yoro – who joined for £52m in the summer from Lille – for criticism over his body language after Barnes scored his second goal of the day.

As a guest on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Henry said: “I invite everyone to stay on Leny Yoro. First and foremost, he’s going to try to play offside.

“It’s a great finish from Barnes but please stay on Yoro and what he’s asking for… pause.

“I don’t know what he’s looking at. What are you looking at? Are you looking at the linesman to try to see if he’s going to bail you out? I don’t know.

“I don’t know if he thought there was an offside, I don’t know. We all know it’s a goal! What are you looking at?! I actually don’t know. I’ve never seen that before.”

When analysing Barnes’ first goal, Henry again criticised Man Utd defender Yoro for not tracking back, he added: “Diogo Dalot, I don’t know what he saw or what he thought was going to happen.

“Leny Yoro doesn’t go back and try and defend it, they’re second in everything, the desire was one Newcastle’s side.

“It’s just not good enough really.”

Henry has been criticised by fans on social media for his comments, and in our Mailbox, and seemingly responding to Henry’s comments, Yoro posted a message to Man Utd fans on Instagram with a picture of him looking dejected against Newcsastle.

The caption in French translated to: ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but always ask God for what you need. And when you pray, ask for it with thanksgiving. Philippians 4:6.’

Speaking after defeat to Newcastle, Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand told his YouTube channel that there are signs of improvement from the young Frenchman.

Ferdinand commented: “It was a tough start for him but young players need to come into a team, if they’re going to do well, with players around them and look to when it’s not going well and draw confidence from.

“That’s why I feel sorry for some of these players that join Man United at the moment because there’s only Bruno [Fernandes].

“What I’ve seen from him, he’s a student of the game. He sees his mistakes, he acknowledges his mistakes, he tries to learn from those mistakes. And I can see that.

“Even when he’s getting out wide in one v one situations, against Southampton he got roasted. I spoke to him after that start getting your arms out, he’s now making contact with people, slowing people down.

“Putting your arm across someone’s chest when you are running ain’t about trying to foul or anything like that, it’s just to slow them down, put them off their momentum put them off pace a little bit, while your legs are motoring.

“Little details I can see now that he’s pushing up people when he’s in the channel, rather than just thinking I’m going to win in a foot race, this is a different league its a more physical league in that sense, at the moment his team isn’t getting no respect from any player, that is going to make it harder for him.

“I think he’s improved definitely and there’s a calmness about him. When he first got in there was a panic. There’s a big difference.”

Rooney reveals Rashford ‘100 per cent’ wants to return to Man Utd after ‘fantastic’ Aston Villa display

Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney insists that Marcus Rashford still “wants to play” for the Red Devils after watching his “fantastic” display for Aston Villa in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Villans looked well out of sight on 27 minutes aagainst PSG as the French side took a 5-1 lead on aggregate after two early goals from Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes.

But Aston Villa rallied with Youri Tielemans getting one back ahead of the interval before John McGinn and Ezri Konsa grabbed further goals to put Unai Emery’s side one goal behind.

They couldn’t quite get the equalising goal but another positive out of the night was Man Utd loanee Rashford looking back to his best on the big stage.

On Aston Villa coming up short on the night, Rooney said on Amazon Prime: “How they came out for the second half was excellent. They came out with a belief and an energy, they felt like they had nothing to lose.

“They will be proud with their performance but also really disappointed as well because the goals they conceded in the first half were really avoidable and that’s what cost them the tie.

“The goals they conceded in the first half were sloppy and nowhere near good enough at this level.

“That’s ultimately what has cost them.”

When asked if he thought Aston Villa had a chance after Konsa’s goal, Rooney replied: “100 per cent. They were on the front foot, PSG were rocked, they were rattled and Villa were going for them.

“I have to say, I have to give a massive shout out to Marcus Rashford. I thought he was fantastic, the Rashford we’ve seen over the years.

“His skill, his ability, getting at players, driving at players and then his awareness to pull the ball back.

“When this goal goes in, you can feel the atmosphere and the Villa players get that belief that they can get back in the tie.

“They probably just ran out of energy. They gave a lot to that 20 minutes and PSG saw the game out well.

“But it was a fantastic effort from all the Villa players, the fans got right behind them and, unfortunately, they just fells short.”

Man Utd allowed Rashford out on loan to Aston Villa in the January transfer window with their Premier League rivals reportedly having a £40m option to sign him in the summer.

But Rooney is convinced that the England international still wants to return to Man Utd if he can sort out his differences with Ruben Amorim.

Rooney continued: “I hope he goes back to Manchester United and performs like he did today.

“That’s what we all want to see as United fans. He wants to play for Manchester United, 100 per cent.

“He’s a United lad, but he needed to play and it was clear he wanted to play.

“Marcus Rashford, in an ideal world, would want to play and leave a legacy at United. If that’s possible, I don’t know, but that’s what I would love to see.”

United fan groups seeking legal action after abhorrent treatment in France – report

Manchester United fans are exploring legal action after their horrendous treatment in France during last week’s Europa League tie.

United managed to throw away a 2-1 lead in the final seconds of the match and had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Olympique Lyonnais.

The second leg will be played at Old Trafford tomorrow evening with the match finely balanced.

United fans’ moods were only to get worse after their treatment in the French city, however.

Before the match, The Peoples Person has already relayed that fans had to make their way to the Eurexpo Conference Centre to collect a wristband and then get a coach to the match.

This robbed them of the chance to soak up the atmosphere in the city centre before the match, which is commonplace in European away days.

It was also reported that after the game, fans were tear-gassed in the stadium by French police and that the club has subsequently launched an investigation.

The Daily Mail now reports that, “United fans are exploring legal action after supporters were tear-gassed by French police following the Europa League quarter-final first leg in Lyon last Thursday.”

“Those in the away end at the Groupama Stadium were subjected to heavy-handed treatment by police, who sprayed fans with tear gas after they tried to access toilet facilities during the mandatory hold-back of more than an hour.”

The paper reports that groups including the Manchester United Supporters Trust are speaking with experts in England and France to “see whether there is scope for a legal challenge.”

There is no clear plan of action yet but it seems that legal action against the French authorities is certainly “believed to be on the table.”

Lyon fans coming to Manchester will face no such problems as there is no mandatory meeting place and tickets do not need to be collected at a certain point.

In a compelling conversation with season-ticket holders, Bruno Fernandes names the best Old Trafford atmosphere he has experienced in five years as a Red so far.

Our captain recently sat down with match-going supporters in the Stretford End to answer their probing questions, and part one of their fascinating conversation is available to watch now.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon, when a ‘tifo’ banner will be used at Old Trafford for the first time, Bruno is effusive in his praise for our fans.

When asked to name his favourite atmospheres at the Theatre of Dreams, Fernandes lists his standout contenders before focusing on one unforgettable afternoon in August 2021.

PART ONE | Our fans quiz Bruno on away days, hostile crowds, supporting young Reds, chants and Old Trafford atmospheres…

“It is difficult to choose one, we’ve had a lot of good moments in my five years here at Old Trafford,” says Bruno with a smile.

“I think in my first season, the win against [Manchester] City at home was very, very good. I think the moment Scott [McTominay] scores to make it 2-0, the stadium came down!

“I was on the bench and probably when you are on the bench, you can feel it even more, the stands, the atmosphere, everything, the noise.

“Obviously, Liverpool [in the Emirates FA Cup], because of the game, because of the late goal, everything was very, very good. I think the European nights, they are very, very good every time. I can remember the Real Sociedad game was unbelievable.

“But if I have to say one, I would say Leeds at home. Obviously, I scored the hat-trick at home and it stays in my memory a little bit more, but I think it was 20 years after – the first time Leeds were back at Old Trafford – and we know the rivalry against them.

“The result was great and it was the first time fans were back in the stadium after COVID, so everything was perfect that day.”

Aston Villa: Rashford has ‘proven everyone wrong’ with Amorim not ‘correct’ in Man Utd ‘narrative’

Daniel Sturridge feels Marcus Rashford has “proven everyone wrong” including Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, who was not “correct” in his assessment of the Aston Villa loanee.

Rashford starred in the early period of Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford. But things soon began to turn sour, with the manager dropping the forward from his squads, suggesting his efforts in training were not up to standard.

That led to a January loan move to Aston Villa, Rashford’s first away from United, and a £40million option for them to buy him showed what United thought of him.

It was suggested by some that he was a problem, who might not be able to find his feet again elsewhere. Rashford, starring in a Champions League quarter-final for Villa against Paris Saint-Germain, has proved doubters wrong, thinks Sturridge.

“The narrative before he came here was that he’s not the same player any more. That was the narrative. He’s proven everyone wrong,” Sturridge said on Amazon Prime.

“We have to give him credit. There was a big narrative out there that Marcus Rashford is not the same player, and Ruben Amorim was correct about everything. But Marcus Rashford has come here and shown everybody this is who I am, and this is how I play. This is what I can bring to the table.

“As a football player, sometimes when a manager doesn’t fancy you, it’s up to you to show them: ‘I am good enough’. This is what I can do. Sometimes you are not going to get the love from the manager, and you have to go on loan or fight for my spot.

“[Marcus] has chosen to come here and it has worked out for him. Sometimes you make these decisions and it goes the other way. I’m really proud of him that he’s come here and shown everybody what it is all about.”

According to Fotmob ratings, John McGinn was the only player on either side who performed better than Rashford in the 3-2 victory (5-4 loss on aggregate) against PSG.

It is little surprise that Villa reportedly want to keep Rashford beyond his six-month loan, with Unai Emery of the belief that his head is in the right place, and he can help take the Midlanders to the next level. Performances like the one against PSG show that is indeed possible.

Arsenal at Real Madrid, Ange facing sack if Spurs look, Man Utd’s ‘focus’, poor Nkunku

There is a Premier League game this midweek but Newcastle United v Crystal Palace is massively overshadowed by the Champions League and Europa League.

Strap in for another Big Midweek as Arsenal aim to avoid an almighty collapse at the Bernabeu and Ange Postecoglou fights to keep his job.

Game to watch: Real Madrid v Arsenal
We were reluctant to focus on the same two teams in consecutive Big Midweeks but come on – it obviously is the game to watch.

Arsenal dismantled Real Madrid in their Champions League quarter-final first leg last Tuesday, with Declan Rice scoring two corking free-kicks to send the Emirates Stadium into raptures. As everyone has been quick to point out, you can never rule out Real Madrid, least of all at the Bernabeu, and certainly not in the Champions League.

Three-goal deficits have been overturned before in Champions League second legs – most notably by Liverpool against Barcelona in 2019 – and if you were to back a team to do it in this season’s competition, it would be Real Madrid. But if you were to back any of the remaining teams to successfully park the bus to see themselves through after a first-leg victory, it would be Arsenal.

Their defensive stubbornness and ability to nick a goal from a set-piece, on top of the crucial three-goal advantage, make Arsenal strong favourites to progress.

Eduardo Camavinga is suspended after his stupid injury-time red card at the Emirates but Aurelien Tchouameni is back from his suspension, which is a nice bonus for Carlo Ancelotti. Other than that, Kylian Mbappe will be nicely rested after a first-half red card in Sunday’s La Liga match at Alaves. He knew exactly what he was doing with that stamp, didn’t he?

Both teams rotated heavily at the weekend and Jurrien Timber, Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino and Myles Lewis-Skelly should return to the starting XI after the draw against Brentford, while Thomas Partey is a doubt with a, erm… knock. Yes, a knock.

The general consensus is that This Is Real Madrid We Are Talking About and if they score in the first 15-20 minutes, it could get sticky for the Gunners. We shall see, my friends.

If Aston Villa v PSG is more your thing, our prediction is here.

Team to watch: Manchester United
We lost count of how many times Ruben Amorim repeated ‘the focus is on Thursday’ after Man United were hammered by Newcastle United on Sunday. We could certainly tell they were focusing on the second leg with their shocking performance at St James’ Park and going out and losing to Lyon in their Europa League quarter-final would be disastrous and condemn Amorim to the worst season of any Red Devils manager this century. He only took over in November but he already has 10 Premier League defeats; Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has eight since the start of last season.

United’s season hinges on Thursday’s match against Lyon. Winning this competition will get them into next season’s Champions League and from the money involved to the players you can attract, that is priceless and would accelerate the club’s rebuild under Amorim.

A reaction to Sunday’s humbling is imperative but this is not a team you can rely on for a big reaction to a defeat. Bruno Fernandes had an off-day, but he’s still capable of winning a Europa League game on his own, so him being on his A-game could well be enough. If the French club shut him down, then United are relying on players like Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Manuel Ugarte, which is far from ideal.

MAILBOX: Ruben Amorim blamed for picking player fit for ‘Rumbelows against League Two opposition’

Manager to watch: Ange Postecoglou
On numerous occasions this season we have said Ange Postecoglou is one defeat away from the sack and every single time he has survived. This time, surely, a loss would be fatal. The Australian is lucky to still be in a job, with Daniel Levy giving him the chance to win the Europa League and get Tottenham Hotspur back in the Champions League.

A draw at home to Eintracht Frankfurt was not an ideal result in the club’s quest for European glory and their first trophy since 2008. They were unfortunate not to win at home and a trip to Germany is a daunting task, with those missed chances and woodwork hits potentially coming back to haunt them.

Sunday’s trip to Wolves was a chance to pick up some momentum for the return leg but nope, that was obviously not to be. Postecoglou was always given some slack due to an unprecedented number of injuries – even if his training methods and playing style were culpable – but now with almost everyone back fit, Spurs don’t look much better. Granted, the back four against Wolves was far from Postecoglou’s ideal defence but shipping in four to a Wolves side now only two points behind them in the Premier League table is unacceptable.

It truly is make or break for Big Ange this week.

Player to watch: Christopher Nkunku
Chelsea beat several big clubs to the signing of Nkunku from RB Leipzig in the 2023 summer transfer window but he has been awfully disappointing since moving to the Premier League. His record in Germany was ridiculous, bagging 36 goals and making 21 assists in 59 Bundesliga matches in his final two seasons at the club. We have no idea where that guy has gone.

The £51million fee Chelsea paid to sign Nkunku looked like a coup at the time but the Frenchman is now regarded as a big-money flop, needing to thrive in the Europa Conference League and Carabao Cup midweek just to stake a claim for minutes off the bench in the Premier League.

He has blown almost every chance he has had as a starter in the Premier League and was given a fair run in the side last month with Nicolas Jackson out injured. Nkunku struggled in last week’s win at Legia Warsaw in Chelsea’s Europa Conference League quarter-final first leg, missing a penalty, which thankfully didn’t matter too much.

With the tie all but dead and buried, Nkunku is likely to lead the line again when Legia come to London. He will hope to bounce back to help the healing process and convince Blues fans and head coach Enzo Maresca that he is good enough.

From Italy: This United ace holds the key to Amorim landing “extraordinary” 25yo Serie A hitman in the summer

Manchester United are on the hunt for a replacement for Rasmus Hojlund, who has struggled throughout his sophomore campaign in England.

He has three Premier League goals all season with Ruben Amorim bitterly disappointed with what he has seen from the 22-year-old so far.

In worse news, the head coach now only has the Dane to rely on for the rest of the season following Joshua Zirkzee’s season-ending hamstring injury.

Should the former Atalanta ace not impress between now and the end of the season, INEOS are prepared to cut their losses on him in the summer.

Rasmus’ exit on the cards

A discounted sale or even a swap deal exit cannot be ruled out with The Peoples Person relaying that Juventus are open to offering Kenan Yildiz to the Red Devils for the Denmark international, especially if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

But Calciomercato’s latest report makes much more sense with the Bianconeri destined to losing Dusan Vlahovic owing to his wage demands with United among his suitors.

The Serbian’s current valuation is closer to Hojlund’s which makes the swap deal offer more realistic especially from a Juve point of view.

“The 25-year-old Serbian is liked by Barcelona in addition to having a market in the Premier League and is valued at around 30 million euros, considering that in June he will be only one year away from expiring.

Swap deal with Vlahovic?

“Juve could also exploit Vlahovic’s contract to reach other objectives in England, such as including him in negotiations with Newcastle to bring Tonali back to Italy .

“The former Fiorentina player could also end up in talks with Manchester United for Hojlund, another player under special observation by Giuntoli for the forward sector.”

As per recent reports, English clubs such as United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle are all ready to pay €45 million to land the Serbia international.

The “extraordinary” striker has 14 goals in all competitions as well as five assists, not his most prolific season but he is much more of a ruthless No 9 as compared to Hojlund while also having the experience of playing in big matches.

“That’s the challenge I have”: United star identifies area of his game he’s sharpening, progress is already showing

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has revealed that he is working hard to improve the attacking aspect of his game and become a bigger threat on the pitch.

Since Ruben Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag in November last year, Dalot’s role has shifted from primarily defensive responsibilities to a more attack-minded wing-back position.

In Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, the wing-backs are responsible for providing width – a tactical shift that initially proved challenging for Dalot. However, he now appears to be finding his rhythm in the role.

The Portugal international has notched two assists and one goal in United’s last six appearances. Dalot played a big role in Alejandro Garnacho’s goal against Newcastle on Sunday, bursting into space to slip in the forward, who expertly planted the ball into the bottom corner.

Over the past few games, Dalot has assumed more forward positions and according to the player, this is something he has been working on.

He told club media, “I’ve started being a little bit more up the pitch. I still think I can get into even better positions and arrive a little bit more, and that’s the challenge I have. The qualities are there.”

“It is just trying to adapt also to the new way of playing and trying to help the team as much as I can.”

Dalot stressed the significance of marginal gains, pointing out that small improvements can add up to make a substantial impact over time.

“I always try to see what can I improve on. What can I change? I have that type of belief that there’s always something you can improve.”

“So I’m constantly trying to see ways of trying to improve my game, my way of life, the way I live, my profession and my daily life. So, I’m always trying to see the best for me because ultimately, if I have that approach, I think it will benefit the team.

“Once you start looking at your body as your tool to succeed, to work, then you can start knowing your body a little bit more. You know the timings, you know the loads, you know the best ways to recover, the best ways to push even more. And that comes with time.”

He continued, “I mean, you cannot ask a 18 or 19-year-old player to know their body like that, and even myself, I’m starting now to understand it a little bit, but I think it will take even a couple more years to be to be in the right spot to understand everything about my body. So I’m very curious about whether I can improve my game on and off the pitch to be ready. But like I said, ultimately, I think that’s what we have to do to benefit the club.”

“It’s a way of trying to get to the best level if you want to be able to play in the way football is going now, which can be 60-70 games per season if you’re at a top-level team. You need to start to be prepared for that because it will get really exhausting for the body [if you don’t].”

United are back in action on Thursday when they host Lyon for the return leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie. The aggregate score currently stands at 2-2.

Man Utd transfers: Ten-man shortlist to replace Onana includes Man City target and Arsenal hijack

Andre Onana was ousted from the Manchester United team for Newcastle after his Europa League errors and while nobody really believed Altay Bayindir would be the long-term solution to their goalkeeping woes, the Turkey international made sure that wouldn’t be the case against the Magpies. He was rotten.

Thoughts now turn to which poor sap will be signed by the Red Devils this summer to take on the job between the sticks and courtesy of the wonderful FBref we’ve used the PSxG minus goals allowed metric to rank 10 goalkeepers who have recently been linked with replacing Onana at Old Trafford. ‘What the f*** is that?’ you might reasonably ask…

Post-shot expected goals is expected goals based on how likely the goalkeeper is to save the shot. When the number of goals they have conceded is subtracted, we are left with the figures below. FBref explains that positive numbers suggest better luck or an above-average ability to stop shots.

We’ve used the same method to rank Premier League goalkeepers this season and we accept that it may not be the only metric by which the United bosses choose their replacement given Onana (+1.8) is doing better than half of them, but we would implore them to look beyond a goalkeeper’s ability to play a pretty pass having failed to do so when signing their current No.1.

10) Bart Verbruggen (Brighton): -5.5
We were all a bit confused last season as Roberto De Zerbi rotated Verbruggen with Jason Steele, more because it’s just Not Something You Do rather than because one was very much better than the other.

Verbruggen was made the main man by Fabian Hurzeler after a very good Euro 2024 for the Netherlands, with those displays apparently still at the forefront of Manchester United minds rather than his performances for the Seagulls this season, which make him the very worst in the Premier League.

9) Aaron Ramsdale (Southampton): -3.5
It’s almost exactly two years to the day since Ramsdale produced one of the most remarkable goalkeeping performances in Premier League history to ensure Arsenal escaped Anfield with a 2-2 draw to keep their title hopes alive. He probably thought at that point – as many of us did – that a Premier League winner’s medal was in the post if it didn’t arrive that season.

Saturday’s defeat to Aston Villa may well have been a more enjoyable game for Ramsdale than any of his previous 23 this season despite picking the ball out of his net for the 55th, 56th and 57th time, as TWO penalty saves appear to have caught the eye of United and a couple of rivals for his signature this summer.

8) Andriy Lunin (Real Madrid): -1.6
He’s only played five La Liga games this term and would have been fourth on this list on the basis of last season when he played 21 games to earn a score of +4.2.

Eyebrows may be raised by some Red Devils fans over signing a No.2 to become their No.1, but there may not be a goalkeeper in world football who wouldn’t be back-up to Thibaut Courtois.

7) Mike Maignan (AC Milan): -0.9
Outstanding for Lille and then in his first season for Milan as they won the Scudetto and made it to the Champions League semi-final, with Maignan pivotal in getting them there, but he’s not had a positive PSxG minus goals allowed score since that 2021/2022 season and his manager’s call to put him on a diet due to weight concerns isn’t great, while his age (29) may also be a factor in United’s thinking.

6) Zion Suzuki (Parma): -0.2
United being strongly linked with Suzuki in 2023 when he moved on loan to Belgian side Sint-Truiden from Urawa Red Diamonds and then failing to battle Parma for his £6.5m signing last summer before making a move for him now he’s valued at £40m is very Manchester United.

5) David de Gea (Fiorentina): +2.8
Manchester United fans have predictably forgotten the errors and general downturn in De Gea’s performances at the end of his Old Trafford career during Onana’s struggles in recent weeks, with the decision to replace the club legend becoming more criminal by the day amid nonsense reports of United re-signing a player who would most likely tell them to f*** off in any case.

4) Mads Hermansen (Leicester): +3.1
We confess to not paying all that much attention to Hermansen before a report claimed United scouts were watching him in December, and perhaps because of the pressure of those links, he appears to have made a horrible mistake in every game we’ve watched him play since. We blame Paul Parker.

3) Joan Garcia (Espanyol): +5.5
If offered the choice between moving to Arsenal to become a back-up to David Raya or moving to Manchester United to be their undisputed No.1, we genuinely don’t know what we would do. Real Madrid and Barcelona are both also supposedly sniffing around Garcia, which suggests that if United can hijack the Gunners’ move for the 23-year-old then they probably should.

2) Lucas Chevalier (Lille): +7.1
Manchester City’s interest in Chevalier has a long-term replacement for Ederson is obviously a problem for United – there’s only going to be one winner in that transfer ‘battle’ – but again, given the record of the Red Devils’ scouts, picking players on the basis of other clubs’ interest wouldn’t be such a bad idea. We don’t really remember a mass brawl to sign Antony for £86m.

1) James Trafford (Burnley): +11.2
It might be worth United considering Trafford’s -5.9 score in the Premier League last season when making their decision and interest from Chelsea should sound alarm bells given their honking record of signing goalkeepers, but Newcastle are also keen and haven’t got a lot wrong in recent transfer windows, while 28 clean sheets in a season is absurd no matter the level.
