Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has outlined his position on the stiff competition for places in the England squad. Fantastic boost Rashford is set to be fit and available to Thomas Tuchel for selection ahead of England’s clash against Ghana on Tuesday. There were fears that the Carrington academy graduate would be unavailable after he complained of a thigh issue in the World Cup opener vs. Croatia last week. Rashford had to settle for a place on the bench, with Tuchel instead handing a start to new Barcelona man Anthony Gordon. But the substitute stole the spotlight, coming on to fire home a beauty and clinch a 4-2 win in Dallas. The substitutes who did not feature against Croatia had a practice game against Kansas City, which Rashford missed, further stoking concerns about an injury. However, it was confirmed that he trained with his fellow countrymen on Saturday. The debate over whether Rashford or Gordon deserves a starting berth continues to swirl, but the United star is focused on his own game rather than the external chatter. He also outlined what the Three Lions must do to get the better of Ghana. Rashford remarks Rashford said, “We’re one team and we have to fight for each other in the exact same way that you fight for your club teams. That’s the norm now.” “We understand it’s difficult because everybody wants to play and a lot of players deserve to play. At some point, players are going to be disappointed, but it’s about how you handle it.” He said of the upcoming encounter with Ghana, “I think we have to bring an intensity that they can’t live with and we try and stick to that.” “If we can play at that level, it can win you games.” “The one thing we can predict is how we conduct ourselves over 90 minutes or 120 minutes, so I think we just have to focus on that as players. We just have to keep pushing ourselves. We’re definitely capable.” England vs. Ghana kicks off at 9 pm. Erik ten Hag weighs in on Cristiano Ronaldo controversy after megastars brutal dissection of his management

Legendary former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo has achieved almost everything there is to achieve in football. The iconic goalscorer has amassed a staggering 37 major trophies across club and international football, but he has never managed to get his hands on the World Cup, something he will be aiming to put right this summer. Yet, despite all of his success, the former Real Madrid man has come under scrutiny for his role in the Portugal side, with many questioning whether the team would be a more threatening and balanced outfit without the 41-year-old in the starting line-up. Ronaldo did start Portugal’s first game of the tournament against DR Congo but delivered a disappointing performance that served only to enhance the criticism the star is facing. In the first half of the match, the former United man failed to create any chances, take a shot, successfully take on an opponent, or win a duel. A mixed season in Saudi Ronaldo came into the World Cup on the back of winning his first major trophy in five years as his Al Nassr side clinched the Saudi Pro League Championship. The legendary striker enjoyed a prolific individual campaign too, as he scored a staggering 30 goals in just 37 appearances for the club. It’s easy to forget, though, that the Portugal international actually went on strike in February as he believed other PIF-owned clubs were receiving preferential treatment in the transfer market. This was despite Ronaldo earning an estimated £500,000 per day. Though this issue was put to bed rather swiftly, it highlights the fact that Ronaldo likes to be the star man at his clubs and, should he not feel respected, he is prone to lashing out just as he did during his time at United before his contract was terminated. International struggles Ronaldo will surely be more determined to win the World Cup than ever before, having seen his great rival Lionel Messi lift the coveted trophy four years ago. Despite his determination, though, Portugal’s most capped player has not impacted any of the last few major tournaments he has been a part of. Ronaldo registered just a solitary goal at the 2022 World Cup and eventually lost his place in the starting line-up to Gonçalo Ramos. Moreover, the former Juventus striker did not find the back of the net once at Euro 24 as his side crashed out in the quarter-finals. Ten Hag’s thoughts It’s fair to say Erik ten Hag and Ronaldo did not enjoy the best of relationships during their time together at Old Trafford. The Dutch manager struggled to find a way to integrate Ronaldo into his team and, after becoming exasperated by his lack of minutes, the legendary goalscorer belittled Ten Hag and United in a scathing interview leading to the termination of his contract. While working as a pundit for the World Cup, Ten Hag, speaking to channel NOS via FC Update, was asked if he had spoken to Ronaldo since the Portugal international left United. “Of course, I haven’t spoken to him since his departure.” Ten Hag responded. Ten Hag then elaborated on his reasoning for dropping Ronaldo from the side: “As a coach, the team’s interest always comes before the individual interest. And at that moment, that didn’t fit.” The former United manager then expressed doubt as to whether Ronaldo can still perform for his country. “At a certain point, and that is simply nature, it stops. And I am really very curious to see if he can still make an impact at this World Cup. “I think he has a bit more of a chance at a World Cup like this, because it isn’t the Premier League in terms of intensity, nor is it the Champions League. So I believe he is still capable of something. “Portugal actually has such an incredibly good team. They really should definitely reach the last four. But I wonder: with Ronaldo, that is the big challenge, of course. Will it fit?” Only time will tell if this really is one World Cup too far for Ronaldo, but the Portugal international will be desperate to silence his critics with an incredible performance when his side meet Uzbekistan in their second group game. United exploring stunning swoop for PL captain as 6’1 monster makes key decision on his future – report

Manchester United remain interested in Cristian Romero as the Tottenham Hotspur captain reaches a key decision on his future in North London, according to the latest report. Bolstering the Backline Despite Harry Maguire putting pen to paper on a new deal in April, United remain in the market for a new centre-back this summer, though initially it was understood that they were targeting a younger option. The ongoing absence of Matthijs de Ligt due to a long-term back injury and Lisandro Martinez‘s increased fragility mean that central defence is not as well stocked as the unit appears, particularly as Maguire himself picked up knocks last season. Both Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro are highly rated at Old Trafford, with coaches believing the pair have the potential to form as strong a partnership as Arsenal’s title-winning duo, Gabriel and William Saliba. However, they are inexperienced and prone to mistakes in the way every young defender is, leading United to consider more established options to bolster the backline. Two targets in Germany – Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae and Borussia Dortmund’s Waldemar Anton – have been identified, though neither offers the Premier League experience that INEOS prioritises in new recruits. Reckless and Rash or Bold and Brave? Earlier this month, a trusted Argentine reporter revealed that United were considering a bid for Romero as the Argentina international was understood to be looking to leave Tottenham. This was then dismissed by a local Manchester outlet, though transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the Red Devils had made an enquiry for the 6’1″ defender a few months ago, even if an offer was not as imminent as initially suggested. Sports Boom confirms United are “monitoring” Romero as an option, with the recruitment department understood to admire his “aggressive style, leadership qualities and top-level experience.” However, this front-foot defensive approach often leads the 28-year-old to overstep the mark, resulting in a horrendous disciplinary record which makes him as much of a hindrance to his team as a help. If Romero were able to channel his aggression, he would have the physical and technical skills to be an elite centre-back. However, without the mental side of the game to match, he remains a liability who should not be wearing the captain’s armband. Furthermore, Sports Boom claims the Cordoba native has “made it clear that his preference is to remain with Spurs rather than seek a move away this summer”, informing the North London club he is “keen to remain at the heart of [Roberto De Zerbi’s] project and lead by example”. Final Thoughts The idea of an aggressive all-Argentine defensive partnership at Old Trafford between Romero and Martinez is one which would strike fear into opposition strikers’ hearts, even if it would also have the referee reaching into his pocket with alarming regularity. Had Tottenham been relegated and a cut-price deal could have been struck to sign Romero, he would have made sense as an experienced centre-back to take over from an ageing Maguire. But with Spurs having staved off a descent into the Championship, the price they would demand to lose their captain will prove prohibitive to United’s budget this summer, with the priority being a revamp in midfield. Erik Ten Hag desperate to reunite with former United flop who didn’t score a single Premier League goal

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is looking to make a strong start in his new role as sporting director of FC Twente and he is hoping a reunion with a player he brought to Old Trafford could be key to the Dutch side enjoying a strong campaign next season. Ten Hag’s new role marks something of a new chapter for the former Ajax manager, as it is his first move into a technical position rather than being involved in the coaching side of football. It will surely present the FA Cup winner with a number of challenges, and he will surely be hoping to find more success in the role than he did in his last few managerial positions. His time at United Expectations were high when ten Hag was announced as Manchester United manager, with many fans hoping the Dutch tactician would bring the free-flowing, exciting football his Ajax team played so well to the Premier League. Unfortunately for the Red Devils, this was not the case. Across his 128 matches at the helm of United, Ten Hag’s side played uninspiring and unexciting football, resulting in just 72 wins and ensuring the manager ended his time at the club with a truly disappointing win rate. Ten Hag did deliver a major trophy during his time with the mighty Reds, though, and he did it in style by beating local rivals Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final. The Dutchman also deserves credit for bringing a number of academy graduates into the first team, most notably Kobbie Mainoo. A new opportunity After an incredibly disappointing spell at Bayer Leverkusen, which saw the former United manager sacked after just three games, Ten Hag was given the opportunity to return to the club where he started his coaching career, becoming the sporting director at FC Twente. With the transfer window now open, ten Hag has his first real chance to influence the team at FC Twente, and he will surely be looking to make a statement by bringing in a number of new signings. While on punditry duty during the World Cup, the former centre-back named one ex-United player he would love to reunite with. Wout Weghorst Ten Hag signed giant striker Wout Weghorst on a six-month loan deal in January 2023. It was a move that left many United fans underwhelmed and, unfortunately, Weghorst failed to prove his doubters wrong. Though he made an impressive 31 appearances in his time at the club, the Netherlands international found the back of the net just twice and only registered a single goal involvement in the Premier League. His tepid performances at Old Trafford have not deterred ten Hag, however, as the technical director recently revealed his desire to reunite with the 33-year-old striker once again. Quoted via Dutch outlet Tubantia, ten Hag said: “At Twente, we are naturally always interested in Wout Weghorst. He is a boy with true Twente roots. We are incredibly proud of everything Wout has achieved.” “I have known Wout and the Weghorst family for a very long time. Back then, Wout was just a little boy playing for NEO. Of course, I would love to have him on the team. Who wouldn’t want a striker like Wout Weghorst?” Despite his interest, Ten Hag made it clear Weghorst’s focus will be entirely on the World Cup at present. “Wout is focusing on the World Cup right now. He wants to become world champion.” Should the Netherlands manage to lift the coveted trophy this summer, Ten Hag will likely endear himself to FC Twente fans if he manages to bring in a World Cup winner. PL rivals make desperate move as United edge closer to blockbuster signing after agreeing personal terms – report

Tottenham Hotspur are pushing hard to beat Manchester United to yet another signing, according to reports. Earlier this year, United showed interest in Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi by touching base with his representatives. However, Spurs moved decisively and convinced the free agent to put pen to paper on their contract soon after avoiding relegation. United are not prioritising strengthening their defence this summer. As such, fans might not have lost sleep over missing out on Senesi. However, now, the North London giants are looking to hamper the Red Devils’ pursuit of their priority midfield target. Mateus Fernandes prepared to join Manchester United According to talkSPORT, Manchester United are determined to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United despite the gifted midfielder suffering back-to-back relegations. The 21-year-old Portuguese emerged as one of the Premier League’s most complete midfielders last season, excelling with and without the ball. He is a powerful ball-carrier with an eye for a killer pass. Out of possession, the youngster is tenacious and in the right place at the right time, more often than not. “He’s got an unbelievably excellent attitude towards becoming better. So he can only use this as being better,” Simon Rusk, who worked with Fernandes at Southampton, told Sky Sports. As such, interest is high in the dynamic midfielder, and talkSPORT claims United have already convinced him to move to Old Trafford. “We know that Manchester United have basically got personal terms already agreed,” said talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook. Tottenham in talks to hijack Fernandes deal However, it is understood United’s move for Fernandes is in danger of being hijacked by Tottenham, who have already made an enquiry to West Ham over securing his services. The report further states: “And Fernandes is another player that De Zerbi has identified as someone who can improve Tottenham, having obviously flirted with relegation right up until the final day of the Premier League season.” Mateus Fernandes Premier League stats: 2025/26 Season Appearances36 Minutes per game84 Touches58.9 Key passes1.0 Accurate passes37.9 Interceptions 1.0 Tackles 2.9 Goals and assists 7 Source: Sofascore Reaching an agreement with Fernandes is one thing, and getting a nod from West Ham is another. The Hammers have so far shown little desire to budge from their £80m valuation. As such, should Spurs decide to meet West Ham’s demands and United refuse to be held to ransom, Fernandes would most likely end up moving from east to north London rather than Manchester. The eye-popping sum that United legend David Beckham is set to pocket from World Cup deals – report
Manchester United icon David Beckham is in line for a massive payday thanks to his multiple World Cup sponsorship deals. Global appeal Beckham may have hung up his boots years ago, but his dominance in the endorsement world has hardly faded. Having recently become the first British athlete to achieve billionaire status, the Inter Miami co-owner now boasts a reported combined net worth of £1.185 billion alongside his Spice Girl wife, Victoria. Beckham earned handsomely during his playing days, with lucrative stints at United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, PSG, and LA Galaxy. The real game-changer, however, was his landmark move to Major League Soccer. The designated player rule delivered him a £4.9m annual fee, but the true value lay in the broader package, including personal endorsements and a percentage of all team revenue from ticket sales to sponsorships to merchandise. When Beckham joined LA Galaxy in 2007, his contract included a heavily discounted right to purchase an MLS expansion franchise for $25m. He exercised this option in 2014, officially choosing Miami for his team. The club is now worth an estimated $1.3–$1.5b, thanks in no small part to the arrival of Lionel Messi. World Cup winner Beckham never managed to win the World Cup on the pitch with England, but he’s emerged as one of the tournament’s biggest winners off it, courtesy of the eye-watering fee he’s poised to collect. The 51-year-old has starred in numerous commercials for major brands, including Lay’s, Adidas, Home Depot, McDonald’s, Bank of America and Stella Artois. According to the Manchester Evening News, Beckham is predicted to earn around £19m from these endorsements. Marketing Made Clear said about the United legend, “Brands work with Beckham because he is dependable and recognisable.” Beckham made 394 appearances for United during a trophy-laden spell between 1992 and 2003. He scored 85 goals, helping the club to win six Premier League titles, a Champions League title and two FA Cups.
