Arsenal’s latest position on a swoop for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has emerged. Uncertain future Rashford’s future is in limbo after Barcelona made the decision not to keep him despite his superb loan spell in the 2025/26 season. He contributed 14 goals and as many assists across all competitions to help the Blaugrana retain their La Liga crown. Barcelona had the option of retaining him on a permanent transfer for just £26m but they opted against it. Hansi Flick’s side remains open to a cut-price deal or even another season-long loan, but United are not entertaining such talk at the moment. Over the weekend, there were suggestions that Michael Carrick would be open to working with Rashford at Old Trafford. Speculation around this was further fuelled after it was reported that Rashford would prefer to stay at United rather than join another English team. It’s understood that he has a £40m release clause, which is practically valid for any club except bitter rivals Manchester City and Liverpool. Arsenal, fresh from winning the Premier League, have been mentioned as an interested party in the England international. There have also been claims that United have offered him to the Gunners as they push for a permanent parting of ways. Arsenal are expected to be busy in the market as they look to build a team capable of defending the title. They could do with bolstering their attacking options. With Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard both tipped to leave, Rashford could be the one to benefit. However, according to The Mirror, Arsenal are not prioritising a move for the Carrington academy graduate. Arsenal’s stance The newspaper says that Rashford is poised to return to United after the World Cup for showdown talks with club officials about his future. Rashford holds the opinion that his best option is to move on. But Arsenal is unlikely to be where he lands, with the North London club cooling on the idea of adding him to their ranks. A good World Cup from Rashford could be United’s ticket to a summer sale. French midfield titan wanted by United rejects another club as he makes transfer wish clear – report

Juventus midfielder and reported Manchester United target Khephren Thuram has turned down another interested club, as he continues to hold out for a move to the Premier League. Transfer wish United are prioritising midfield reinforcements this summer as they prepare to play in the Champions League next season and potentially challenge for the Premier League title. The Red Devils have already agreed a deal with Atalanta for Ederson, who is set to officially complete his transfer after the World Cup. United are said to be eyeing another Serie A midfielder, Thuram, whose future at Juventus is increasingly uncertain. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Juventus are open to selling Thuram following their failure to qualify for the Champions League. While Thuram would love to remain in Turin, he may ultimately have little choice in the matter. The report claimed that negotiations for the Frenchman are expected to start at €45-50 million. More recently, it emerged that Thuram turned down the opportunity to join Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli. Al Ahli were prepared to offer him a lucrative deal to lure him to the Gulf state, but Thuram’s preference would be to seal a switch to England’s top flight. In addition to United, he has also been mentioned to be on Liverpool’s radar. Thuram latest Now, TuttoSport claim that three more clubs have joined the race to snap up the box-to-box midfielder. Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa are also keeping tabs on him. The Italian news outlet adds that a few days ago, Super Lig giants Galatasaray expressed “strong interest” in Thuram. Galatasaray were ready to part with €30m to add the United target to their ranks. However, Thuram rebuffed their advances. “No way. The Gala option doesn’t appeal to the Bianconeri number 19 at all, who appears intent on continuing his adventure at Juve.” TuttoSport reiterate that Thuram would only consider a move to England if a stay at Juventus proves impossible. United refuse to be dragged into bidding war for PL star with Pirlo-like magic – report
Sandro Tonali is poised to leave Newcastle United this summer. Tottenham Hotspur are pressing hard to sign the Italian, and that should have Ineos on alert as they look to hijack a deal for one of their top targets, a midfielder Eddie Howe once likened to Andrea Pirlo. However, despite fan expectation, there has been no hint that Manchester United are doing anything to prevent a potential Tonali-to-Spurs move. For a player packaged as Michael Carrick’s top midfield target, no movement by the 20-time English champions is stunning. So why are United not trying to bring him to Old Trafford? The Telegraph appear to have a clear explanation for this awkward transfer stance. What Man United have told Newcastle about bidding for Sandro Tonali The UK outlet reports that, “United were initially monitoring the situation, but have told Newcastle they will not enter the race to sign the former AC Milan star, because of the combined cost of the transfer fee and the player’s wage demands.” With that revelation, it now seems Tonali joins Elliott Anderson on the list of midfielders The Red Devils are moving away from. Fernandes and Scott (or Baleba) the players to watch It is becoming increasingly clear which midfielders United may now target as they look to complete the double midfield swoop expected to follow their Ederson agreement. Mateus Fernandes could yet emerge as the marquee signing, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott another player to monitor should a deal for the Portuguese be struck. Scott, however, will not come cheap, which is why a revived move for Carlos Baleba cannot be ruled out. Personal terms with the Brighton midfielder have already been agreed, and if a Scott deal falls through, the Cameroonian could finally seal his long-awaited move to M16. Signings of Ederson, Fernandes, and either Scott or Baleba alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes could turn this United midfield into one of the best in England, if not Europe. Pictures: United star issues encouraging fitness update after season-ending injury
Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt has shared an encouraging injury update in the off-season. Momentum curtailed In May, United confirmed that De Ligt had undergone surgery to mend a back injury that had sidelined him for weeks. De Ligt last played for United against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on November 30. Then-manager Ruben Amorim suggested that he would miss one game, but he has not featured since. The Netherlands international was temporarily back in training in the last week of April as he eyed a return to full fitness. It’s understood that De Ligt was initially against the idea of going under the knife, as he pushed to line up again for United and earn a World Cup spot. But after it became clear that neither of those options would be achievable, De Ligt revised his stance and opted for surgical intervention. Before he sustained the issue, De Ligt was arguably in his best form since joining United from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024. The 26-year-old had played every minute in the 2025/26 Premier League season, picking up United’s Player of the Month award for November. De Ligt fitness update De Ligt has taken to Instagram and posted a video of himself working out, as he looks to get back in shape. He also published more images of himself and his loved ones on holiday in Ibiza with the caption “recovering and enjoying.” United say that De Ligt is expected to return to team training in the opening stages of the 2026/27 season. This means he is set to miss pre-season. Perhaps the most encouraging sign is that De Ligt remains in good spirits and is still putting in the hard yards to get back to action. Clear mismatch emerges between United star’s preferred role and club’s plans for him – report
Patrick Dorgu’s close confidants have unveiled his surprise preferred position, even as Manchester United’s plan for him ahead of next season emerges. New dimension When United signed Dorgu last year, the intention was to utilise him in the full-back positions. Under Ruben Amorim, he was chiefly deployed as a left-wing-back in the manager’s preferred 3-4-2-1 setup. He showed promising signs but never really settled. The highlight of this was when Amorim claimed that Dorgu radiates anxiety whenever he gets on the ball. One of Michael Carrick’s first calls upon taking charge of the team was deploying Dorgu in an advanced left-wing role. The tactical decision paid instant dividends. Dorgu found the back of the net in Carrick’s first game, a victory over cross-town rivals Manchester City. The Denmark international then produced a sensational strike against Arsenal, though his upward trajectory was subsequently curtailed by an injury that sidelined him for a number of weeks. Dorgu was back on the score sheet on the final day of the Premier League season as United beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0. He’ll be aiming for a fourth consecutive competitive goal when he starts a game in 2026/27. Another strike would extend his impressive run to four on the bounce. The former Lecce man completed the season with four goals and as many assists. Had he not sustained an injury, there is no telling how many more goal contributions he would have racked up. Dorgu has shown just how effective and dangerous he can be on the left of the attack but according to the Manchester Evening News, those close to him believe a different position suits him more. Preferred role Tyrone Marshall writes, “The intriguing aspect here is that some people close to Dorgu actually believe the right-wing is his best position and where he may eventually be at his best.” “That is a fascinating prospect given his displays on the left for United.” United are thought to be targeting reinforcements on the left side of the pitch, in both defensive and attacking roles. Marshall, however, says that if a left-winger is the priority, Dorgu could end up featuring more at left-back. He will provide competition and cover for Luke Shaw. During his stint with Lecce, Dorgu registered 24 appearances at left-back and a further 14 on the left flank. He also featured on 11 occasions as a right-winger and made three outings at right-back.
