United star issues passionate plea to Amorim over “really valuable” figure after win vs. Leicester

    united-star-issues-passionate-plea-to-amorim-over-“really-valuable”-figure-after-win-vs.-leicester

Matthijs de Ligt has insisted he wants Ruud van Nistelrooy to stay at Manchester United, with Ruben Amorim set to officially take charge of the team on Monday.

Van Nisterlrooy oversaw his final match as caretaker manager on Sunday, as United cruised to a 3-0 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford.

A Bruno Fernandes screamer, an own goal from Victor Kristiansen and a wonderful curling finish from Alejandro Garnacho were all United required to secure all three points and grab just their fourth Premier League victory of the season.

Ahead of Amorim’s arrival, the elephant in the room is what will happen to Van Nistelrooy.

Van Nistelrooy has repeatedly indicated he wants to return to his assistant coach role and be part of Amorim’s backroom staff. In his presser after the meeting with Leicester, the 48-year-old told reporters that a final decision on his future will be communicated either today or tomorrow.

Amidst all this, De Ligt has revealed that he would love to see Van Nistelrooy stay as he knows the club well and has had an impact on the players.

De Ligt said [via Manchester Evening News], “I can only speak of my experience and I think he was really valuable as an assistant. As a manager, he knows the club. Obviously he knows what gets asked for with certain players, together with the crowd also.”

“So yeah, in my opinion [I’d like him to stay], but in the end it’s the decision of the manager [Amorim].”

“I think in four games, you get 10 points [one win was the Carabao Cup]. That’s really good, it’s important. Obviously we scored a lot of goals, we didn’t concede much, yeah, so it was a successful short spell.”

Despite winning three and drawing one of the four games he has overseen, De Ligt remarked that Van Nistelrooy hasn’t changed much from Erik ten Hag.

“I don’t think he changed so much. The difference was with Erik, we had games that we played really well in, like West Ham away, with eight 200 per cent chances and we didn’t score.”

“I mean, the Leicester game, in the first game [in the Carabao Cup], we got five goals. Five goals that are like a shot from 30 meters, that back pass, a free-kick in the wall. Sometimes in football, it’s quite strange because sometimes luck takes over. And I think, obviously it’s a big compliment to Ruud, but also I think for Eric, it wasn’t that something big changed, it’s just that the momentum changed.”

“And if the momentum changes, everybody gets more confident than you and you start to win games, it’s as simple as that.”

“I expect…”: Van Nistelrooy reveals when final decision over his United future will be communicated

Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed that a final decision on his future with the club will be made either today or tomorrow.

Van Nistelrooy gave this update following United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City. A Bruno Fernandes strike, an own goal from Victor Kristiansen and a superb Alejandro Garnacho finish were all United needed to secure their fourth Premier League victory of the season.

On multiple occasions since being made caretaker boss, Van Nistelrooy has expressed his intention to stay at the club and be part of Ruben Amorim’s backroom staff.

Amorim is set to officially take charge of the team on Monday and talks are expected with Van Nistelrooy to discuss among other things, whether or not he will be retained.

In his presser after the Leicester match, Van Nistelrooy told journalists that he expects to be told what will happen before the end of the day or Monday at the latest.

The former Red said, “I appreciated the clear communication of the club, that it was interim for the short term. It could’ve been one or two games even, that was the first communication, and they kept me in the loop and said okay, it’s gonna be four [matches].”

“For me, it is important to have that clarity and I appreciated that and in the end the most important thing is this football club, and I’m here to support that in my role.”

“As I said, I want to continue doing that in the future and now also the communication was after the block of four games there will be communication towards you and your colleagues who are in an uncertain situation. And I expect to hear today or tomorrow.”

When the game ended, Van Nistelrooy was serenaded by supporters, who chanted his name and applauded him for his contributions in the dugout following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal.

He seemed to appreciate this gesture from supporters and soaked it in entirely.

When asked about this, the 48-year-old remarked, “I can only describe that moment, how I felt, and as a closure of this block of four games, it felt like closure for that period and the future is open, that’s the way I felt. It was a moment, it was a beautiful moment to be able to share that with the supporters and special.”

“I felt like closing this period down, if you say it like that, and basically it was a moment here and now, and that was a beauty of the moment in my opinion, where circumstances came together. It was a beautiful moment and it was gratitude from my side to them and the reception I was able to receive was unbelievable. So I can only thank them enough.”

Up next for United is an away trip to Portman Road to take on Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town after the international break.

‘Incredible’ Man Utd star ‘loved’ by Amorim with INEOS tipped to ‘sell Ten Hag signings in January’

        ‘incredible’-man-utd-star-‘loved’-by-amorim-with-ineos-tipped-to-‘sell-ten-hag-signings-in-january’

Incoming Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has lauded one player he will work with following his move to the Premier League giants.

Amorim has been appointed to replace Erik ten Hag, who was sacked at the end of last month.

The 39-year-old was linked with Liverpool and West Ham in the summer but Man Utd have secured the up-and-coming head coach’s services.

His final game as Sporting Lisbon boss is on Sunday night in the Primeira Liga against Braga and will officially join Man Utd on Monday.

Amorim has a big job as Man Utd have only won four of their opening eleven Premier League games. In the Europa League, they have just one win in four group matches.

The new Man Utd boss may look to overhaul his squad in the coming months but summer signing Manuel Ugarte will likely benefit from his arrival.

READ: Ruud van Nistelrooy demoted as Manchester United ‘bar set low’ for Amorim all of a sudden

The Uraguay international previously worked with Amorim at Sporting Lisbon and should have a big role under the new regime at Old Trafford.

Ahead of his arrival, Amorim has hauled Ugarte, who “has a lot of room to grow”.

“All the Uruguayans I managed are incredible and that’s why I love them. Ugarte is a very talented boy and has a lot of room to grow. I am very happy to know that I have him back at Man United.”

As mentioned, there could be a overhaul at Man Utd next year and former Everton chairman Keith Wyness reckons ‘summer signings could be sold in January’.

In an interview with Football Insider, Wyness said: “I think some of Ten Hag’s players will want to go in January.

“That will probably be welcomed by the United management.

“They’ve got to reset the whole situation, but it’ll be July before Amorim starts to see his fingerprints on the squad.

“They’ve got a lot of juggling to do under a lot of pressure. A lot of that has been self-inflicted.”

Amorim has also commented on Man Utd’s chances of signing Sporting Lisbon players in January or next summer.

He said: “I won’t be signing [Sporting players] in January, that’s what I said.”

Despite this, Amorim is more open to the prospect of signing Sporting Lisbon players in the summer.

“I don’t know about the summer. The main thing is to hold on until the summer [laughs]. After that, we’ll see, Sporting’s players are very good players. I don’t know. We’ll see.”

10 ground duels won, 12 tackles, 92% passing: United star ate up the ground, was everywhere vs Leicester

          10-ground-duels-won,-12-tackles,-92%-passing:-united-star-ate-up-the-ground,-was-everywhere-vs-leicester

It was the perfect end to the Ruud van Nistelrooy era as Manchester United ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Leicester City at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The win meant the Red Devils are only four points off the top four in the Premier League. The interim manager’s tenure has resulted in an unbeaten four-game run, which includes three wins.

Players have been free to express themselves in the last four games, a huge change from the Erik ten Hag era, while the former striker’s arrival also brought certain stars back to life.

One among them has been Manuel Ugarte, who was everywhere on the pitch on Sunday, winning 10 ground duels, and making 12 tackles in total, winning eight of them.

          Ugarte back in form

He was ignored by the former manager, with reports stating that Erik ten Hag had preferred other players in his stead, something that was not appreciated by the owners.

Under Van Nistelrooy, the Uruguayan has got regular minutes, which has brought out the best side of his game: his combative edge.

The 23-year-old, in tandem with Casemiro, hardly allowed the Foxes to keep the ball at times, making three vital interceptions while recovering the ball seven times (stats via sofascore).

With confidence restored, the former Paris Saint-Germain star found the courage to venture forward at times, and while his passing still needs improvement, there were plenty of positive signs.

          Amorim will be pleased

The defensive midfielder had 68 touches of the ball and he ended the game with a 92% passing accuracy with five passes into the final third.

The Uruguay international also made one key pass while creating one big chance. He had an attempt on goal blocked and completed 100% of his dribbles.

Ruben Amorim, who has worked with the midfielder in the past at Sporting Lisbon, will be happy with his former pupil’s return to form.

He has formed a steady partnership with Casemiro but United fans will be waiting to see Kobbie Mainoo partnering him eventually once the Amorim era kickstarts.

Man Utd ‘did OK’ during ‘amazing period’ as Van Nistelrooy waits to ‘learn’ Amorim ‘plan’

            man-utd-‘did-ok’-during-‘amazing-period’-as-van-nistelrooy-waits-to-‘learn’-amorim-‘plan’

Ruud van Nistelrooy closed the door on “a short but amazing period” in charge of Manchester United with a 3-0 home win over Leicester City.

Man Utd made it three wins out of four following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal on Sunday with Ruben Amorim set to take charge as head coach on Monday.

His first game was a 5-2 Carabao Cup victory over Leicester and he closed the door on interim spell with a comprehensive win against the same opposition, with Bruno Fernandes shining at Old Trafford.

“It was professional, you could see that players were fighting through the game,” he told BBC Sport. “We scored two great goals and there were some good bits but we didn’t have real control of the game.

“It was an important three points. In the four games Bruno scored some important goals, assisting too so he is back producing. That’s the Bruno that is helping the team the most.

“I spoke to Alejandro Garnacho before the game, he has played a lot of minutes and I wanted him to make an impact off the bench and I’m glad it worked out. We said ‘let’s make the most of these four games’, get the maximum out of it and I think we did an OK job.

“I really enjoyed it, it’s been a short but amazing period. We are in an uncertain position but we tried to do our jobs and help the club which is important.

“There are a lot of feelings there, the way the fans supported me and the team always in difficult moments was a special moment. To close down this block of games with good results and a good connection I can’t thank them enough.

“We will learn what the further plan is now.”

Van Nistelrooy added: “You saw the class of the team in our goals, we also gave very little away.

“We tried to stabilise after a difficult and emotional period. We wanted to get players performing at their best, we got the right feeling to them and got them believing in themselves.

“This spell was a big responsiblity, I took it very seriously. I wanted to help and get United into a better place, that was my goal. With three wins and a draw it’s a standard where you want to grow to as a club.

“The connection with the fans was there, I really felt it. This is what United is really about.”

Player of the match Fernandes said: “It was a good day at work, I have to say. We have a lot of players with big qualities, but people can get too excited after one game and too down after another.

“Garnacho scored a banger but didn’t celebrate like he should because he thinks he has lost faith from some fans. I told him people will always moan but lots of people like you and enjoy what you do.

“I told him to celebrate, it was something special. He is a special player, we have difference makers. They are the ones who win us games. We want them to score every game but that isn’t going to happen.

“The Fantasy managers won’t be happy with you guys taking that goal off me.”

Defeat for Leicester leaves them 15th in the Premier League after 11 games and head coach Steve Cooper believes it was an even game against Man Utd, but his side “didn’t defend well enough”.

“The result will paint the picture but in the end we didn’t show enough desire in either penalty area,” he said. “We let two unopposed shots from outside the area for the goals.

“Two of the goals have come from our corners as well which is frustrating. It wasn’t a dangerous position but we made it dangerous. At the other end we got into good areas but didn’t show that same desire.

“Our general play was fine but in the end we didn’t have the purpose. We had good spells, we were in the game, it didn’t feel like they were going to score the next goal.

“We can’t just say we missed Jamie Vardy, we can’t be reliant on that.

“It was a fairly even game in general play but in decisive moments we didn’t defend well enough. We had good phases in the game but you have to be productive at both ends of the pitch.

“We weren’t the threat we are capable of being, we fell short. Jamie Vardy has a back injury and we will have to see how he is, but Ricardo Pereira is out for three or four months.”

Emotional Van Nistelrooy summarises his interim spell at United in four-word statement after win vs. Leicester

              emotional-van-nistelrooy-summarises-his-interim-spell-at-united-in-four-word-statement-after-win-vs.-leicester

Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has hailed his players for turning things around at the club during his brief spell in the dugout.

Following Erik ten Hag’s sacking late last month amidst a run of poor results and performances, Van Nistelrooy was appointed caretaker boss. He oversaw four matches, winning three of them and drawing once.

With Ruben Amorim set to officially take charge of the team on Monday morning, there is uncertainty over Van Nistelrooy’s future at United. The Dutchman has repeatedly declared his intention to stay and be a member of Amorim’s backroom staff and it’s believed talks between the two are scheduled to take place at Carrington tomorrow.

After United’s superb 3-0 win over Leicester City, Van Nistelrooy was spotted soaking in the appreciation and adoration from fans, in what may have possibly been his last game at United.

After the final whistle, the 48-year-old spoke to BBC and gave his verdict on the team’s performance against Steve Cooper’s men and his interim spell as manager.

He told the news outlet, “It was professional, you could see that players were fighting through the game.”

“We scored two great goals and there were some good bits but we didn’t have real control of the game.”

“It was an important three points. In the four games Bruno scored some important goals, assisting too so he is back producing. That’s the Bruno that is helping the team the most.”

“I spoke to Alejandro Garnacho before the game, he has played a lot of minutes and I wanted him to make an impact off the bench and I’m glad it worked out. We said ‘let’s make the most of these four games’, get the maximum out of it and I think we did an OK job.”

“I really enjoyed it, it’s been a short but amazing period. We are in an uncertain position but we tried to do our jobs and help the club which is important.”

“We will learn what the further plan is now.”

United are next in action against Ipswich Town on November 24, after the international break.

Bruno Fernandes warns one thing at United hasn’t changed after 3-0 Leicester win

                bruno-fernandes-warns-one-thing-at-united-hasn’t-changed-after-3-0-leicester-win

Bruno Fernandes says Manchester United must “get back to where it belongs” after starring in the emphatic 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday.

Speaking to the BBC after the game, the United captain discussed about being back amongst the goals after an unusually barren start to the season: “It was a long time that I wasn’t scoring and now goals are coming in the last few games.

“Another clean sheet was important for us to bring back the fortress we had here. We have to keep doing that and we have to improve.”

Although there is still a long way to go to be able to call Old Trafford a “fortress”, United’s clean sheet was significant as it helped lift their goal difference out of the negative to a mere zero.

The match was also Ruud van Nistelrooy’s last as interim manager, with the Dutchman credited with bringing back some freedom and positivity to the players who laboured under Erik ten Hag.

Fernandes said: “Ruud van Nistelrooy fills the club, he loves the club, he wants to bring joy to the players. He brought everyone with a smile to the games, he just wanted us to enjoy it.

“We wanted to say goodbye as a manager for him properly because he did good things for us.”

The unbeaten Van Nistelrooy era may have been short-lived, but it was just the sort of ship-steadying which was urgently needed given the Red Devils’ dismal form and the fact that new head coach Ruben Amorim couldn’t join immediately.

Amorim steps into the role on Monday, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for Van Nistelrooy, who has made no secret about his hopes of staying on in some capacity.

For Fernandes, some things change and others stay the same: “It’s a new era, a new manager means everything changes but what hasn’t changed is that this club has to get back to where it belongs.”

Even after today’s win United are still in the bottom half of the table in 13th place, but they are now only four points away from fourth.

The pressure awaiting Amorim is immense, but with so long still left in the season and big teams struggling, there is bound to be an air of excitement around the team in the coming months.

Manchester United were cool and clinical as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Leicester City in their Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.

In what was Ruud van Nistelrooy’s final game in charge as interim manager, Man United looked determined to impress in front of the Old Trafford crowd, dominating against their recently-promoted opponents.

From the first whistle, winger Amad Diallo showed a flaming desire to prove himself, especially after being excluded from the starting lineup in the previous league match against Chelsea last weekend.

The winger showed some silky skills in the opening minutes, weaving past two defenders in the final third before being fouled. Even though he was stopped in his tracks, it would take much longer for Amad to leave a lasting impact on the match.

Following a throw-in from Noussair Mazraoui, Amad received a pass from Bruno Fernandes. With a breathtaking backheel, he played the ball back to Fernandes, who scored from distance to hand United a 17th-minute lead.

His shining moment aside, Amad proved to be a constant thorn in Leicester’s side, spurring countless attacking build-ups for United.

Amad completed five of his six attempted dribbles, proving almost impossible to dispossess. What’s more, he won nine of his 13 ground duels while coming off best in both of his aerial battles.

His passing was one of the few areas of his gameplay that left a little to be desired. With 19 of 26 passes reaching their target, Amad had a passing accuracy of 73%.

Still, he attempted no crosses and failed to complete his only long ball. While Amad would do well to attempt more long passes, this could also be down to his team’s playing style and how he is being instructed to play by the coaching staff.

Amad appeared eager to score, bursting into the final third constantly and taking four shots in total.

One shot was on target, another was blocked, and the remaining two shots were off the mark.

Despite being an attacking player, Amad put in a large effort to support his defenders when the visitors were on the counter. He made two tackles and performed an interception as well as a clearance.

Passing aside, it was a highly impressive and energetic performance from Amad. He showed the desire and aggression required to not only rock the opposition but hand United the edge they required to seal a decisive victory.

Man Utd smash Leicester: Van Nistelrooy learns from Ten Hag errors by relying on superb trio

                    man-utd-smash-leicester:-van-nistelrooy-learns-from-ten-hag-errors-by-relying-on-superb-trio

Ruben Amorim will have been watching as Ruud van Nistelrooy’s spell as Manchester United interim manager ended with a comfortable victory over Leicester City – and the caretaker boss gave Amorim a few pointers by delivering the kind of comprehensive United victory that have become so few and far between at Old Trafford.

The start to United’s Premier League match at home to the Foxes teased us with a repeat of their 5-2 corker in the Carabao Cup, but it was far less chaotic and a lot more assured from Van Nistelrooy’s side on the Dutchman’s final match as interim boss before Sporting Lisbon’s Amorim starts his new job.

Player of the match Bruno Fernandes shone and gave Manchester United a deserved lead with a beautiful strike early on and continued to inspire his teammates throughout.

United got through a spell of saying to themselves, ‘We are 1-0 up and playing well, what now?’ by doubling their lead through a Victor Kristiansen own goal that Fernandes celebrated like it was his. He might well have thought it was his. He got contact on the ball but Kristiansen put the ball past his fellow Dane Mads Hermansen – a painful one for Noussair Mazraoui owners on Fantasy Football after the Moroccan’s teasing cross was not converted by his captain.

During that unconvincing spell between the first and second goals, the Red Devils should have conceded when the impressive Facundo Buonanotte chipped pass put through Wilfred Ndidi. The Nigerian’s effort was rubbish and failed to test Andre Onana, who would have been disappointed by Diogo Dalot’s dormant defending.

After a blistering start, United dropped off after the opening goal and again after doubling their advantage. They should be toying with Leicester and have them chasing shadows, but instead allowed them to have more of the ball, not that they were doing anything meaningful with it.

There were some impressive pressing moments from Van Nistelrooy’s men. In that respect, Amad Diallo was leading by example and was doing more than any of his team-mates to prove to Ruben Amorim that he is a player he can count on. He was constantly overlooked by Erik ten Hag when fit and available and we are not sure why. There was not favouritism to his signing and former Ajax favourite Antony, because he was out of the team as well. At least that omission was justified.

Ten Hag gave Amad minutes at the start of the season and was clearly not that impressed. For that, we can’t be too harsh. But his persistence with Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford, players with bigger reputations and salaries, was the wrong way to go. Garnacho has struggled after a superb end to 2023/24 and Rashford’s form has remained subpar, yet both were consistently playing in the weeks leading to Ten Hag’s dismissal.

Rashford clearly has great ability, but against Leicester, we did not see it…again. We did with Garnacho, at least, banging one into the top corner from outside the box to make it 3-0.

Van Nistelrooy learned from Ten Hag’s error in overlooking Amad, which helped his attempts to prove his managerial credentials and his worth to incoming head coach Amorim.

Three wins and a draw from his matches as interim are a very nice parting gift if he isn’t in the 39 year old’s plans. He probably should be, but it could become overkill on the training ground with Amorim bringing his Sporting coaching staff with him. We will simply have to wait and see what happens with Van Nistelrooy, but the club legend has made clear he wants to stay.

Another player Van Nistelrooy has flying is Casemiro, who is doing everything to show he is not finished. Ten Hag truly might have been the problem, which is very, very funny to even consider. He was arguably the best player on the pitch having done pretty much everything to a tee. The heavily-criticised midfielder kept things simple throughout and should be higher in the pecking order than summer signing Manuel Ugarte when Amorim comes in.

Casemiro’s simplistic nature epitomised United on a day where they did not allow Leicester to threaten them again after one or two scares at 1-0 up. That strong opening may not have been turned into sustained momentum, but after an up and down first half, they were in absolute control in the second 45. Pressing efficiently after losing possession, creating chances and actually showing they have a game plan and some identity – a word we frequently used in a different light during Ten Hag’s tenure.

While Casemiro kept it simple, Fernandes did the opposite, but to an equally high standard.

Clearly, Van Nistelrooy has seen a lot of the same things all of us have. United look better off the ball, more confident on it, the right players are in the side, and Fernandes is the main man once again. There could be an argument as to whether he went so far as to down tools, but he has not been the same player since Solskjaer was sacked.

Here, though, the Portuguese was outstanding, scoring the opening goal in sublime fashion from a lovely Amad backheel assist, coming close to securing a brace and assisting Garnacho’s beauty.

Bruno’s best football came under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer when he was given the freedom to express himself and Van Nistelrooy has reverted to that tactic to great effect. I still don’t know where he fits in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, but he is someone who has to start and be United’s leader.

Great stuff all around, really. Identity and decent football at Old Trafford resulted in three succulent points for United and an unusual comfortable trip home for their supporters. And things are only going to get more exciting when Amorim arrives for his first day on Monday morning.

Manchester United ended the Ruud van Nistelrooy era in style, thrashing Leicester City 3-0 in their Premier League game at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Bruno Fernandes finally got his first goal from open play in the league while an own goal handed the Red Devils a two-goal lead heading into the break.

Alejandro Garnacho, brought on as substitute for an ineffective Marcus Rashford, scored a stunning third with the hosts ending the day only four points behind the top-four.

The interim boss has certainly steadied the United ship after the tumultuous Erik ten Hag which yielded only four wins in the first 14 games. They have gone four games unbeaten, winning three of those games quite comfortably.

RvN has done a great job

The team have played with much greater freedom in all of the former striker’s games but the biggest positive of his tenure will be the fact that his arrival sparked certain players back to form.

Amad Diallo, who was tipped to enjoy a breakthrough season, was dropped midway into the campaign by the former manager and the disappointment showed in the Porto game as Antony was brought on ahead of him.

Under Van Nistelrooy, the Ivorian has looked a different player, much more dangerous as he has been given the freedom to express himself. Against the Foxes, Amad was a constant threat and should have scored after a brilliant run into the box.

Even in the case of the skipper, who had not scored under Ten Hag this season, has started finding the back. Fernandes has a goal involvement in every game of the interim manager’s time.

It is not only about the goals but also the solidity in midfield that the combination of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte have brought to the team.

                      Big stars back in form

The Brazilian had struggled under Ten Hag but looks a far sharper player now and his partnership with the Uruguayan stifled the visitors in the first half.

The former Paris Saint-Germain player, who hardly got chances in the previous regime, is now seeing more minutes which in turn has brought out his combative nature, and he won duel after duel on Sunday.

While Van Nistelrooy’s future remains up in the air, Ruben Amorim will certainly thank him for giving the club a lift which will allow him a better base to work with. He deserves to stay but Amorim will have his own ideas.

Not everything is perfect though, with there being concerns about goalscoring in general with the form of both strikers a major worry that the Portuguese will need to solve very early in his tenure.
