Man Utd: Amorim ‘on the trail’ of Osimhen swap deal ‘including resounding failure’ amid Gyokeres blow

    man-utd:-amorim-‘on-the-trail’-of-osimhen-swap-deal-‘including-resounding-failure’-amid-gyokeres-blow

According to reports, Manchester United are ‘on the trail’ of Nigeria international Victor Osimhen as Ruben Amorim is considering a shock swap deal.

Amorim has been appointed to replace Erik ten Hag, who was sacked after last month’s disappointing 2-1 loss at West Ham.

The 39-year-old has a huge job on his hands as Man Utd are 13th in the Premier League after eleven matches.

The Red Devils have struggled in front of goal this season as they have only scored 12 goals in their eleven Premier League games.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are Man Utd’s main two forward options and they have just two goals between them this season.

Zirkzee was United’s first summer signing as they paid around £36m to sign him from Serie A outfit Bologna.

The Netherlands international scored in his Premier League debut as Man Utd beat Fulham in their opening game of the 2024/25 campaign but he’s not kicked on since.

Zirkzee is already being linked with an exit as the ‘resounding failure’ could return to Serie A.

Italian journalist Gerardo Fasano claims Man Utd ‘could include’ Zirkzee in a swap deal for Napoli forward Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray.

“Manchester United is said to be on the trail of Victor Osimhen. I have been told that the English, through mister Amorim, could include the former Bologna striker Zirkzee in the negotiations for Osimhen,” Fasano said.

“Zirkzee could help Lukaku find himself. Money plus Zirkzee for Osimhen. Amorim has understood that Sporting Lisbon could ask too much for Gyökeres and is testing the waters for Osimhen.

“Zirkzee might not be the ideal striker for the coach. The former Bologna player would instead help Lukaku next season: the two would form an important pair. However, Juventus is also interested in Zirkzee and can count on Thiago Motta, a coach who has greatly enhanced the player.”

Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan in the summer after missing out on a move to Chelsea, but there is a break clause in this deal and could leave Napoli for £63m in January.

Earlier this week, ex-Man Utd striker Louis Saha explained why his former club should pursue Osimhen over Gyokeres.

“If you look at the stats, Man Utd should go after Victor Osimhen over Viktor Gyokeres, it’s as simple as that. He’s been scoring goals for four years at Napoli and has done exactly the same since joining Galatasaray, scoring goals for fun,” Saha said.

“He is a huge character and has the confidence to be a success everywhere he goes. I think there is a bit more of a guarantee behind him given the amount of time he has been successful.

“He is a big game player and he loves the game, he doesn’t care how his goals go in, he just wants to score and that’s what he does. He is very focused and he reminds me of Erling Haaland in that sense. I think he could be what Man Utd need.”

United looking to shockingly swoop in for former City PL winner on a free this summer – report

      united-looking-to-shockingly-swoop-in-for-former-city-pl-winner-on-a-free-this-summer-–-report

Manchester United are reportedly aiming to seal a free transfer for former Manchester City player Danilo from Juventus this summer.

With incoming manager Ruben Amorim favouring a 3-4-3 formation, the Red Devils may see a restructuring of their backline over the coming transfer windows.

With the future of numerous centre backs up in the air such as Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, United will most likely need to get the cheque book out to boost their numbers at the heart of defence.

One surprise name linked to United lately is that of Brazil and Juventus captain, Danilo.

It is suggested that the veteran is of interest to Amorim and United may aim to strike as he is currently not in the plans of Juventus manager Thiago Motta.

Italian outlet La Gazzetta report that the defender is out of contract at the end of this season, in 2025.

“The clause for automatic renewal until 2026 upon reaching a certain number of appearances was removed at the player’s request, who is considering leaving in January”, as he has lost “the spark” with his current coach.

The player is still a key member of the Brazil national team and will not want to lose his place in squad ahead of what could be his final World Cup in 2026.

Therefore, “he is looking around and he will evaluate the opportunities that will present themselves, but it is unlikely that Juventus will be able to cash in on his transfer, as it is only a few months away from expiring.”

As a result, United may be able to swoop and sign the veteran defender for free and his salary of “around €5 million net” is unlikely to be an issue for the 20 time English champions.

Man United’s new owners have not prioritised experience and have generally shown interest in signing young talent. This is likely to be a key theme of future recruitment.

Nonetheless, should a veteran defender with Premier League experience be on the market for free and a reasonable wage, perhaps it is too good an opportunity to turn down as United aim to significantly bolster their defensive numbers.

Man Utd blow with PL rivals ‘favourites’ to sign Gyokeres; ‘unconvinced’ by Amorim reunion for one reason

        man-utd-blow-with-pl-rivals-‘favourites’-to-sign-gyokeres;-‘unconvinced’-by-amorim-reunion-for-one-reason

According to reports, Viktor Gyokeres is “not keen” on a move to Manchester United and Chelsea are the ‘favourites’ to sign the prolific striker.

The Sweden international left Championship outfit Coventry City to join Sporting Lisbon during the 2023 summer transfer window for around £15m.

Gyokeres has proven to be a huge bargain as he’s been a phenomenal signing for the Primeira Liga champions. The 2024 top scorer in Europe has grabbed 66 goals and 19 assists in his 68 appearances for the Portuguese side across all competitions.

Under Ruben Amorim, Gyokeres has emerged as one of the best strikers in Europe and he’s likely to earn himself a big move next year.

Following Amorim’s move to Man Utd, Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League giants.

Amorim has a huge job as Man Utd are 13th in the Premier League after eleven matches. The Red Devils have struggled in front of goal this season as they have only scored 12 goals in the league.

A report from Portuguese journalist Sergio Krithinas says Man Utd should be preparing to miss out on Gyokeres as the forward is ‘unconvinced’ by the Premier League outfit.

He explained: “I think Amorim would definitely like to have Gyokeres on his team, but I think Gyokeres is not very keen on Man Utd.

“The only reason, from what I know, that Gyokeres would go to Man Utd would be because of Amorim. He loves Amorim, he knows how to get the best out of him, but Gyokeres isn’t very keen on Man Utd because all the top clubs in Europe are watching him.

“So I think Gyokeres would be happier overall in a different place… [and] from what I know, there’s a gentleman’s agreement between Sporting and the player to release him for around €80 million.”

While a move to Man Utd is seemingly off the table, Chelsea are reportedly in the running to land Gyokeres and a report in Spain says they are the ‘favourites’.

‘With several of Europe’s top clubs closely monitoring his progress, Chelsea appear to have taken the lead in the race to sign one of the most sought-after attackers in football today.

‘Chelsea’s need to strengthen its forward line, after a season marked by a lack of attacking force, makes him the most likely destination for the Swede.

‘Sporting Lisbon, aware of the value of their star, are looking to get the maximum financial return from a possible sale.

‘The operation could be one of the most significant of the next market, marking a new chapter in Gyökeres’ career and leaving a difficult-to-fill void in the Portuguese club’s attack. The next few weeks will be key to defining his future.’

Aston Villa ‘set to beat’ Man Utd to sign £66m star with ‘significant bid’ as Amorim risks ‘losing out’

          aston-villa-‘set-to-beat’-man-utd-to-sign-66m-star-with-‘significant-bid’-as-amorim-risks-‘losing-out’

According to reports, Aston Villa are ‘set to beat’ Manchester United in the race to sign Oihan Sancet from La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao.

Ruben Amorim has been appointed to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd and officially took over at the start of this week.

Amorim has a huge job at Man Utd as they are 13th in the Premier League after eleven matches.

The 39-year-old will have very little time to settle in as the hectic festive period is upon us and Man Utd’s first game after the international break is at Ipswich Town on November 24.

The winter transfer window is also not too far away and Man Utd are being linked with several potential signings.

24-year-old Sancet has reportedly been on their radar as he’s enjoyed a stunning start to the 2024/25 campaign. He has five goals in his 12 appearances across all competitions.

The Spanish attacking midfielder is under contract until 2032 and has an 80 million euro (£66m) release clause in his contract, so Athletic Bilbao are in a strong position.

READ: 16 Conclusions on the F365 Tables: Brighton for the Champions League as Postecoglou has it easy

However, Sancet is attracting interest from the Premier League ahead of January and a report from Caught Offside claims Aston Villa are ‘set to beat’ Man Utd in the race to sign him.

It is ‘possible’ that Amorim ‘loses out on one particular target’ as Aston Villa are ‘set to test Athletic Bilbao’s resolve’.

‘CaughtOffside sources indicate that the Midlands-based outfit are in the box seat with regards to potentially tying up a deal with La Liga giants, Athletic Club, for their highly-rated attacking midfielder, Oihan Sancet.

‘Though sources have advanced that the Villains are likely to make a significant bid in the upcoming January transfer window, it’s understood that Sancet has an €80m release clause which will make any deal difficult.’

‘Indeed, sources also suggest that Villa are undecided whether to meet the release clause, though the board are apparently working on various strategies to make this transfer happen.

‘Aston Villa scouts have watched many of the Spaniard’s games this season and have been keeping a close eye on him because Emery believes Sancet can be successful in the Premier League.’

Earlier this week, Amorim insisted he would “do everything” to get Man Utd back to where they “belong”.

“I will try to do everything to put this club in the place that it belongs,” Amorim said.

“And I believe a lot that we are going to succeed.”

He added: “You see the trophies and you see the tragedy that we have as a club. You understand the history, after the crash, then we were European champions. It is important to put this kind of strength in the team.

“When the players come here, they should make the same tour. It is very important. You have to feel this is Manchester United.”

Europa League rivals aim to beat United in race for “top of their list” defender – report

            europa-league-rivals-aim-to-beat-united-in-race-for-“top-of-their-list”-defender-–-report

Manchester United target Ben Chilwell is reportedly on the radar of Europa League rivals Fenerbahce.

The Red Devils are on the lookout for left back options as Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia continue to slowly recover from their fitness issues.

While both players aim to be back later this month and Malacia actually played his first minutes in well over a year versus Huddersfield Town for the under 21s earlier this week, strengthening the left back position is still thought to be high up United’s priority list.

Alphonso Davies, Milos Kerkez and Rayan Aït-Nouri have been discussed in the media as potential options for United.

Chelsea’s out-of-favour fullback, Ben Chilwell, has also been touted as an option for the Red Devils with some reports claiming that the England international is “top of United’s list” to strengthen their left back position.

Turkish outlet A Spor report that United may face a fierce rival for the signature of the Englishman however.

They state that “one of the players that Fenerbahçe is closely interested in is Ben Chilwell.”

“The experienced left-back decided to leave Chelsea for good because he could not find a chance to play.”

“It is reported that the 27-year-old star, who is said to want to go to the right club for him in January, is also being followed by some teams from the Premier League in addition to Fenerbahçe.”

Another factor in the Turkish giant’s favour is that the player is allegedly open to working with Jose Mourinho.

It seems rather debatable United would seriously consider making a move for Chilwell as he was reportedly offered to the club in the summer but they refused to take up the option to sign him.

In addition, the profile of full back that United will target in the future will probably radically change due to new manager Ruben Amorim’s preference to use wing backs in a 3-4-3 formation.

Bruno Fernandes sent home early from Portugal international duty – Fabrizio Romano

              bruno-fernandes-sent-home-early-from-portugal-international-duty-–-fabrizio-romano

Bruno Fernandes will return to Manchester United and not take part in Portugal’s next match against Croatia on Monday.

The United skipper was in fine form last night as his national side trounced Poland 5-1 in the Nations League.

A sublime strike from outside the area rifled into the top of the Polish net in what was the highlight for the player, whose return to form has come at exactly the right time.

And with the Seleção now certain of finishing top of League A Group 1, as per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, head coach Roberto Martinez has released Fernandes, along with Cristiano Ronaldo, Pedro Neto and Bernardo Silva, opting instead to give some fringe players a chance against the Croats on Monday.

It is a fantastic boost for United as it means that the captain will be available for the full week’s training that marks the start of countryman Ruben Amorim’s tenure as head coach of United.

Communication between captain and coach is vital to a football club, especially in the early stages of a management role, when the team is learning the methods of the new coach.

It is also a relief from the point of view of keeping Fernandes fresh with a heavy schedule of fixtures awaiting the Red Devils.

They are scheduled to play two matches every week between now and the end of the year.

It remains to be seen whether Amorim’s arrival marks a change in role for Fernandes, who has almost always played in the number 10 position at Old Trafford.

If as expected Amorim sticks to the 3-4-3 formation he played at Sporting, this would have to change.

Fernandes’ role could either be adapted to be a twin inside forward or he could be pushed back into central midfield in a much deeper 8 role.

Such adaptations make it all the more important that he is able to return to Carrington ahead of schedule and get to work with Amorim on Monday.

Manchester United youngster James Scanlon struggled to make much of an impact despite his great start to the season, but did gain more valuable minutes for Gibraltar in their 1-1 draw with San Marino in the Nations League.

Scanlon has been in mightily impressive form in this campaign for the United academy.

In only eight matches and 653 minutes of action, the 18 year old has plundered nine goals and four assists in the Under 18 Premier League.

In fact, his performances have been so noteworthy that it has been questioned by people in and around the club as to why he hasn’t been promoted to the senior team yet.

Scanlon has also become a key member of his national team. He has now represented Gibraltar eight times this year and has played in every single match of their Nations League group.

It was far from a vintage performance from the youngster yesterday, though, as he was given a score of 6.4 from Sofascore.

His nation gave up 60% possession to the home side and only had four shots to their opponent’s 11.

Scanlon played 78 minutes of action and had 37 touches of the ball from the right wing.

He made 11 of his 15 passes for a pass completion rate of 73%.

Scanlon did almost double his international goal tally with a shot on target but it was comfortably saved by the San Marino keeper.

The youngster was highly combative, attempting 17 ground duels, but was only successful on seven occasions.

He also completed four tackles and made one interception as he helped his side hold on for what could be a valuable point in the group.

Gibraltar sit top of their Nations League D group, ahead of San Marino and Liechtenstein, with six points from four matches.

If San Marino fail to beat Liechtenstein in the final group game, the Gibraltarians will win the group and be promoted to League C for the next edition of the tournament, where Scanlon would be able to measure his talent against significantly tougher international opponents.

Ten Hag to Tottenham after Postecoglou sack with Newcastle among six next moves post-Man Utd

                  ten-hag-to-tottenham-after-postecoglou-sack-with-newcastle-among-six-next-moves-post-man-utd

Manchester United headed into the 2024/25 season with newfound optimism following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover, but there was still an Erik ten Hag-shaped elephant in the room.

The FA Cup win was not enough to salvage what was otherwise a disastrous season, but INEOS saw enough from this morale-boosting victory at Wembley to stick with the Dutchman in a decision which was presumably hastened by their failure to land several top targets.

Ratcliffe and Co. did not exactly give Ten Hag a glowing endorsement with the token gesture of a one-year contract extension and it was evident that the under-fire Dutchman headed into this season on the thinnest of ice.

Ten Hag’s ability to extract a single great performance from his side once in a blue moon served him well in cup competitions and certain all-Big Six clashes, but more often, Man Utd were too easy to cut through and were found wanting in the Premier League.

The Red Devils have hit a new low this season, winning just three of their opening nine Premier League games as Ten Hag’s prolonged stay of execution ended after last month’s disappointing 2-1 loss at West Ham.

Before Ratcliffe’s arrival, Old Trafford – as Gary Neville insists on bringing up at any given opportunity – had become a graveyard for players post-Sir Alex Ferguson.

This is also the case with the managers. The bosses who came before Ten Hag failed to recover after leaving Man Utd as they were never again seen at a top-tier club.

Ten Hag will obviously intend to buck this trend and should be able to land a decent job – albeit while taking a step down – when he returns to management as he can hang his hat on his cup success at United. But where could he go? Here are six possible next moves for the Dutchman…

                  Ajax
Ten Hag has returned to home comforts after leaving Man Utd and was recently spotted in the stands as Ajax faced Eredivisie rivals FC Twente.

The 54-year-old left the Dutch giants on pretty good terms and Man Utd’s recent woes have paled in comparison to what Ajax have been through over the past two-and-a-half years as Jordan Henderson has had a torrid time.

From winning the Eredivisie title in back-to-back seasons before Ten Hag’s exit, Ajax finished third and fifth in their next two seasons and have had six (yes, SIX) managers.

New boss Francesco Farioli has fared better than his predecessors and third-placed Ajax will be just four points adrift of league leaders PSV Eindhoven if they win their game in hand. But Ten Hag was heavily linked with his former club earlier this year and they’d likely take him back in a heartbeat if everything goes Pete Tong again.

READ: Five PL moves for Ruud van Nistelrooy post-Man Utd include replacing Ange Postecoglou at Spurs

                  Netherlands
Ten Hag will also inevitably be linked with a move into international football if current boss Ronald Koeman loses his job.

Like England, the Netherlands largely flattered to deceive at Euro 2024 en route to succumbing to that Ollie Watkins goal in the semi-finals. Their Nations League campaign has been far less successful as Koeman’s side have just one win in four games.

As much as England’s 2-1 win over Greece was a positive advert for the Nations League, games in this competition are still glorified friendlies and a poor campaign in this tournament is unlikely to be enough on its own for a manager to get sacked.

But Koeman – who had his critics after he ditched his country to join Barcelona in 2020 before returning over two years later – was under scrutiny in the summer and Ten Hag would certainly be an upgrade.

                  AS Roma
Another of Europe’s crisis clubs, Serie A giants Roma were reportedly interested in Ten Hag and former Chelsea boss Graham Potter – who is the favourite to join Spurs – following Ivan Juric’s brief but sh*t spell in charge.

Not-so-Special One Jose Mourinho has set Roma on a downward trajectory, with the 12th-placed side currently closer to relegation than the European places.

In a desperate attempt to get fans back on side, Roma’s owners – the Everton-linked Friedkin Group – have tempted 73-year-old Claudio Ranieri out of retirement and he’s penned a contract until the summer.

The beloved manager’s third spell as Roma’s boss will surely be brief and the floundering side will probably return to the drawing board in the summer even if the veteran can halt their freefall. At that point, their interest in Ten Hag could step up.

It was difficult to keep track of a particularly frantic managerial merry-go-around in the summer as several European giants were in the market for a new boss.

Dortmund were in the thick of the action following the surprising exit of Man Utd-linked Edin Terzic, who departed after guiding his side to last season’s Champions League final.

The Bundesliga side’s decision on his replacement was just as surprising as Terzic’s exit as the appointment of former Liverpool midfielder Nuri Sahin made us all feel old.

While Dortmund have sparkled in the Champions League (especially against Celtic), the same cannot be said for their Bundesliga exploits as they are seventh after ten matches. They may soon turn to Ten Hag to offer the former Man Utd boss a speedy return to management as a ‘bombshell’ move has been discussed.

                  Newcastle United
Ten Hag also has a couple of options in the Premier League for his next move and we start with Newcastle United.

The summer was pretty bleak for the Magpies, who had their hands tied behind their back amid their issues with Profit and Sustainability.

There have also been teething issues following their board overhaul as it’s been widely reported that new director of football Paul Mitchell has butted heads with Eddie Howe. Coinciding with the England job becoming available, it seemed like the manager was on borrowed time at St James’ Park.

But talk over an exit for Howe subsided before this international break as Newcastle finally hit their groove and won three straight matches across all competitions.

Still ,recent reports claiming Mourinho is ‘targeting the Newcastle job’ re-established the consensus that Howe is a transitionary boss who successfully kickstarted PIF’s reign at St James’ Park with a bang before being replaced by an ‘elite’ replacement.

As he likes to tell us, Ten Hag is a serial winner of cup competitions and he’d fancy himself to deliver some long-overdue silverware to St James’ Park.

The upcoming festive period could be defining for Ange Postecoglou as his side’s infuriating inconsistency held them back before the international break.

He was initially a breath of fresh air following Mourinho and Antonio Conte’s dull spells in the dugout. Spurs are still way more fun than they once were, but results are also key and their 10th position needs to be improved sharpish if Postecoglou is to remain in charge for the long haul.

Daniel Levy is rightly more of a villain at Spurs than Postecoglou, but the Aussie – who is the latest head coach to be dragged down by the chairman – will be the first out of the door if the club’s failings worsen in the coming months.

Interestingly, Ten Hag came close to joining Spurs before he took over at Man Utd, but club reservations prevented a deal from going through.

With Levy quickly running out of options, the Dutchman could be re-assessed by the Tottenham hierarchy if Postecoglou is axed. If his spell at Man Utd is anything to go by, Spurs would be woeful in the Premier League but could win a trophy. So he’d perhaps be worth a punt…

1 key pass, 91% pass completion: United fan favourite helps nation cruise to 5-1 AFCON victory

Manchester United’s Noussair Mazraoui was victorious with Morocco last night as they cruised to a 5-1 win away to Gabon in qualification for the African Cup of Nations.

The World Cup semi-finalists had slightly less possession with 48% of the ball but had 15 shots to their opponents’ 11.

Mazraoui has had a very impressive start to the season, adapting very well to the rigours of Premier League football since his arrival from Bayern Munich in the summer.

His performances have been even more impressive as he has often had to play out of position as a left back, frequently swapping roles with Diogo Dalot, as they are the club’s only fit senior full backs at the moment.

In this match, Mazraoui played the entire 90 minutes and completed two tackles, starting at the left back position.

Soafscore gave him a score of 6.9 for his evening’s work.

Mazraoui has already shown in his limited United career that he is always up for the fight and he brought that intensity, winning four out of his seven ground duels during the match.

He also demonstrated his impressive abilities on the ball as he had 46 touches and completed 29 out of his 31 passes for a pass completion percentage of 91%.

He also completed one key pass and showed off his range by finding his intended target in four of his five long ball attempts.

The 27 year old also forayed forward from time to time, completing one of his two dribble attempts.

The Moroccan has been a bargain so far at only £12.8m and United fans will be intrigued to see how he can adapt to Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system which plays with wing backs rather than traditional fullbacks.

The win means The Atlas Lions have won all five of their qualifying matches and sit eight points ahead of Gabon, having qualified comfortably a long time ago.

They will wrap up the qualification process at home to Lesotho on Monday evening.

1 goal, 89% pass rate: United hero on fire for international side in 5-1 demolition

Manchester United duo Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot both shone as Portugal ripped Poland to pieces 5-1.

The win confirmed the Portuguese as group winners after Croatia’s 1-0 defeat to Scotland in the Nations League.

Both players will be eager to impress as their compatriot, Ruben Amorim, has already arrived to Old Trafford and is expected to start work next Monday on the Carrington training pitches as United manager.

Fernandes has been in fine form lately, as he scored four goals and provided two assists in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s four matches as interim manager and kept up his fantastic showings with another goal for his country on Friday night.

The United skipper collected the ball and ran at the Polish defence before releasing a sumptuous strike from distance that gave Marcin Bulka no chance, as it rifled into the top corner of the net.

Sofascore gave Fernandes an impressive score of 8.1 as he played the full 90 minutes, scoring one goal and having 83 touches of the ball. He was also very careful in possession, completing 54 of his 61 passes for a completion percentage of 89%.

Fernandes had three key passes in the match as he was a creative spark for his national side. He completed three crosses as well as 70% of his long ball attempts.

The 30 year old also missed another big chance to add to his international goal tally and had two shots off target as he proved a constant thorn in the side of the Polish defence.

He contributed defensively too, working hard for his side by making three tackles and a clearance.

His club teammate Diogo Dalot also impressed and was given a rating of 7.3 for his night’s work.

Dalot made one clearance, one interception and one tackle for his side, who were rarely tested in a dominant display.

The 25 year old won two out of his four ground duels and was incredibly precise on the ball as he made 45 out of his 47 passes for a pass competion percentage of 96%.

He made one key pass and had a shot off target and a further one blocked as he proved a serious contributor at both ends of the pitch.

With qualification for the knockout stages secure, Dalot and Fernandes may both be rested but if not, they will next be in action when Portugal travel to Croatia for their final group match on Monday night.
