Ruben Amorim reveals secret that sparked United’s brilliant comeback victory over City

    ruben-amorim-reveals-secret-that-sparked-united’s-brilliant-comeback-victory-over-city

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has revealed that his side wanted it more compared to Manchester City, and that’s why they beat the reigning Champions at the Etihad.

Josko Gvardiol gave City the lead moments before the break, as he headed in a cross from Kevin de Bruyne.

It looked like Amorim’s men were destined for a third consecutive Premier League defeat but Amad Diallo had other ideas.

The Ivorian won a penalty for United, after being brought down inside the box by a reckless Matheus Nunes. Bruno Fernandes made no mistake from the spot-kick to restore parity.

Seconds later, Amad latched on to an excellent ball from Lisandro Martinez before bringing it under his spell, rounding Ederson and guiding it into the back of the net.

After the final whistle, Amorim spoke to Sky Sports and said, “Three points. We have a lot to do but massive for our fans. But I see the same game until 85 minutes.”

“Maybe our conversation would be so different without the goals but the performance was the same. They were in the game for 90 minutes. We didn’t control the result throughout but I think we deserved this. Good day for us.”

“You can feel it we were near to scoring. We improved our speed in our runs and had opportunities. We controlled the attack of City and we believed it in the end. We wanted it more when we scored the first goal. Congratulations to the lads.”

Amorim added, “It’s really important but when these game finished I remembered one week ago in the storm. We were 3-1 down at home to Nottingham and I keep that feeling for these days to not get carried away. We needed it a lot the three points.”

On whether he’s already thinking about the next game, Amorim replied, “It’s more the problem with Mason Mount, you think right away. We have a lot of games. We have to continue to win. This will change if we don’t continue to win.”

“He [Mount] fits our style. He’s a very good player inside and also outside the pitch. The type of character we want in this team and the club want. He made the movement and stretched his leg, he felt something. But we need him.”

On Amad, Amorim said, “Erik [Ten Hag] and Ruud [Van Nistelrooy] did a great job with him, we continue that. Really important. All the players fit in my system. If they want to be in it, if they are talented, every player can fit in this system.”

On omitting Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from the matchday squad, Amorim explained, “Nothing special. Finish one game, start a new week. New week, new life, if they train well they will compete for a place in the team. They are playing because they are talented, we need Rashford and Garnacho.”

“Next week if they train well like the others. It’s the same for everyone. They will play or be on the bench. It was not a disciplinary thing.”

“We have to improve our standards inside and outside the pitch. It was a normal week.”

United are back in action on Thursday, when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.

‘That’s why Ruben Amorim got the job’: Roy Keane believes Man United is ideal for Amad Diallo

      ‘that’s-why-ruben-amorim-got-the-job’:-roy-keane-believes-man-united-is-ideal-for-amad-diallo

Roy Keane hopes that Manchester United finally have a manager who can make the most of their young starlets after watching Amad Diallo make an instant impact in Ruben Amorim’s first few games in charge.

Amad was the difference-maker for Manchester United as they came from a goal behind to claim a 2-1 victory away to Manchester City, with the winger first winning a penalty – converted by Bruno Fernandes – and then producing a sensational moment in an otherwise abysmal derby game to flick the ball over Ederson before finishing from a narrow angle.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Keane said: “He’s been the biggest plus, no doubt, for the new manager. He’s had the biggest impact with the penalty and the goal – the finish certainly wasn’t easy – and he’s a player willing to run forward as well.

“It was a brilliant moment for him, and well deserved. He’s got a bit of energy, he’s got a bit of quality, a young kid learning his trade. Obviously you always worry and I just hope he stays grounded, but a good afternoon for him.”

READ: Three short minutes of Manchester United passion enough as Manchester City get what they deserve

Fellow pundit Micah Richards chipped in: “I think he’s been the best player for Manchester United this season, taking it all into consideration: new manager, how young he is. He was really good at Sunderland and scored a lot of goals, and he’s definitely made the step up.

“I just enjoy watching him: his enthusiasm, his running in behind, and he’s not afraid to go at somebody. He’s got that confidence and belief that he can play at this level.”

Keane agreed: “Be prepared to run in behind. The game has changed a lot the last few years, everyone wants to come deep and get touches, but you need someone running in beyond the ball, running beyond the striker. There’s where United got their best moments.

“You look for certain traits in a Man United player and he looks like he’s got that. He looks like he’s comfortable in the jersey. We’ve talked a lot about the recruitment and players who can’t find their feet at Man United but he looks like he’s OK with being a Man United player.

“That’s the key for any young player when you come to any big club: how you deal with the expectancy of pressure, contract situations, your family around him. That goes for any player going to a big club.

“I always say to young players to be grounded and enjoy it, and big moments like that, absolutely fantastic.”

Keane hopes that Amorim will now be able to help keep Amad in consistent form as well as bringing through some of United’s other young prospects, saying: “I think that’s obviously why the manager got the job.

“They’ll have looked at his previous track record, particularly at Lisbon, working with younger players and developing selling them on, as he had to do at Lisbon, maybe not so much at Man United.

“This was a great game for Man United. There was no real expectation on them to get a result, but that might just be the spark they need for the manager and the staff. They’ve only been in the door a few weeks but it’s given everyone a lift, you’ve seen everyone kissing the badge, that’s great.

“Now they’ve got to go in tomorrow and get ready for a cup game on Thursday. They’ve created a bit of spark themselves – with a bit of self-destruction from Manchester City, you need a bit of help along the way.

“Now they have to bring it to Spurs on Thursday night. They need to put in a spirited performance, and they’ll need a bit more quality, but they found a way to win today.”

100% ground duels, 5 interceptions, 3 tackles, 3 clearances: United star sends message to Amorim in masterclass vs. City

Manchester United came back from a goal down to beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad.

Josko Gvardiol broke the deadlock just nine minutes before the break, as he rose the highest to head in a cross from Kevin de Bruyne.

However, United fought back and got their reward in the dying embers of the match. Amad Diallo was brought down inside the box by a reckless Matheus Nunes, prompting the referee to award the visitors a penalty.

Bruno Fernandes made no mistake from the spot-kick to restore parity. Seconds later, Amad was at it again, this time latching on to an excellent ball from Lisandro Martinez, rounding Ederson and guiding it into the back of an almost empty net.

United had 48% possession in comparison to City’s slightly higher 52% share of the ball. Both teams managed three shots on target.

Ruben Amorim’s men put together 467 passes with a pass accuracy of 88%. City, on the other hand, strung 24 more passes but with a lower completion rate of 86%.

Alongside Amad, one of the other outstanding performers for United was Harry Maguire.

Maguire slotted into the central position of a three-man defence. He had Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez on either side of him.

During the time he was on the pitch, Maguire made an impressive three clearances and five interceptions.

        He also blocked one shot.

The England international put in three tackles. Maguire delved into four ground duels, winning all four of them.

He was required to contest four challenges in the air and came out on top on two occasions. The 31-year-old touched the ball 51 times and successfully found his teammates with 34 of the 37 passes he attempted.

        (Stats obtained from Sofascore)

It was an excellent outing for Maguire, who is proving he still has a lot to offer under Ruben Amorim.

467 passes vs City’s 491 passes: Amorim ball in full effect as Ten Hag era left firmly behind in stunning derby win

          467-passes-vs-city’s-491-passes:-amorim-ball-in-full-effect-as-ten-hag-era-left-firmly-behind-in-stunning-derby-win

Manchester United produced a stunning late comeback against bitter rivals Manchester City on Sunday to claim a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Josko Gvardiol’s first-half header looked set to be the defining moment in a game which produced very few chances but two goals in the space of two minutes late in the second half changed the complexion of the game completely.

Amad Diallo, who was by far the best United player on the pitch, won a penalty after a huge mistake from Matheus Nunes which was expertly dispatched by Bruno Fernandes in the 88th minute.

And two minutes later, the Ivorian turned in the winner to send the away end into delirium as the visitors inflicted City’s eighth defeat in the last 11 games.

          Amad, the hero

From being ignored by the former manager to emerging as the club’s biggest attacking threat, the 22-year-old has really turned his season around under a coach who trusts youth a lot more.

Ruben Amorim emulated Sir Alex Ferguson to win his maiden Manchester derby and the Portuguese has completely changed the way the Red Devils play.

The recent results, especially the loss against Nottingham Forest, might have been a sore point but the changes are there for all to see.

Back when Erik ten Hag was in charge, United were frequently reliant on counter-attacks against teams who liked to dominate possession.

And too often the players were encouraged to play vertically fast which resulted in loss of possession frequently and no real control on proceedings.

Not under the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss. United enjoyed 48 percent of possession and completed 467 passes as compared to City’s 491 passes.

In the last away Premier League derby, United had 27 percent of the ball and City had almost 500 more passes. Not that it is the most important statistic but Sunday’s game shows how much Amorim has changed the team in such a short span of time.

The 20-time English league champions did not look fazed when forced to play the ball back and kept it under control, passing from side to side to deny City the ball.

          Amorim ball

The visitors showed patience and pressed really well, hardly allowing Pep Guardiola’s team time and space to hurt them.

The Portuguese head coach is changing the club both on and off the pitch as seen from the huge selection gamble ahead of the game.

He took the bold call to drop Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, his team’s biggest threats on the counter, ahead of the game but still his team displayed grit and fight to emerge victorious.

Both have let the club down recently and Amorim is showing he is not afraid to take the much-needed decisions even if they might make things difficult in the short-term.

And despite losing Mason Mount early on due to injury, the team stuck to the plan and Amorim was rightly rewarded. Now the biggest challenge for the coach is to extract consistency from this group of players.

Four things we learnt as United earn brilliant and well-deserved 2-1 victory against City in thrilling derby

            four-things-we-learnt-as-united-earn-brilliant-and-well-deserved-2-1-victory-against-city-in-thrilling-derby

Manchester United made the short trip to the Etihad to take on Manchester City, looking for their first win at the stadium since 2021.

Andre Onana started in goal with Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire in the centre of defence. Noussair Mazraoui shifted to the right wing back position and Diogo Dalot took his place on the left wing.

Bruno Fernandes started in a deeper position to partner Manuel Ugarte in the centre of midfield, while Amad Diallo and Mason Mount got the nod to start as the two tens.

After his match-winning heroics in midweek, Rasmus Hojlund was given the chance to lead the line.

Here are four things we learnt from the match.

            Mason Mount cannot stay fit

Ruben Amorim has been incredibly complimentary when discussing Mason Mount and once again showed great faith in the former Chelsea man by giving him a start in a crucial derby game.

The Portuguese has reportedly been impressed by what he has seen in training and on the pitch and with Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford dropped from the squad, big things were expected of the midfielder.

However, after 13 minutes of play, a depressingly familiar sight took place when the TV cameras panned to Mount on the ground, looking dejected. He was shortly subbed off for Kobbie Mainoo.

The Englishman is only 25 years old and from a human perspective fans will feel for the player. Nonetheless, like Luke Shaw, Mount is beginning to feel more and more like a lost cause.

            Set piece woes continue

Amorim has had a tough start to his Old Trafford career, where he has basically had no time on the training pitch to implement many of his ideas due to the hectic winter football schedule in England.

One of the toughest issues the club is suffering from is their inability to deal with corners or set plays in general.

They were taken apart by Arsenal at the start of the month when they scored two corner goals and last weekend, Nottingham Forest scored within the first two minutes of play from a dead ball situation.

Once again, United conceded from a corner at the Etihad despite looking relatively solid defensively from open play.

The Red Devils must stop this rot as soon as possible because they will be ruthlessly targeted by every Premier League team until they solve this particularly troubling issue.

            Control with little attacking threat

United under Erik ten Hag would often approach away games against top clubs in a chaotic or overly defensive manner.

Despite a small sample size to date, Amorim has set his side up to have possession and control the game, doing so quite well against both Arsenal and Manchester City.

Nonetheless, whilst his side is able to keep the ball, they are severely struggling to create many clear-cut opportunities.

Despite having an impressive 47% of the ball at the Etihad in the first half, the Red Devils only got in once behind when Amad Diallo fired wide from a probable offside position.

Once again despite dominating the ball at the start of the second half, they needed to wait until the 61st minute for their first shot on target.

The first half in particular drew significant parallels to what happened at the Emirates and it feels not much will change until Amorim and his coaches have the chance to iron out these problems on the training pitch.

Amad Diallo is United’s main man

The Ivorian struggled for years to convince various United managers that he was worthy of a place in the starting line up.

The 22 year old was a constant thorn in the side of City and everything good from a attacking perspective came through Amad.

He really burst into life in the final five minutes when his hard work won a penalty that Bruno Fernandes converted before his big moment truly arrived.

Just before the 90th minute, Amad cleverly ran in behind and rounded Ederson before finishing from a tight angle, causing pandemonium in the away end.

United and Amorim have numerous issues to work out but one thing that is crystal clear is Amad Diallo is now the absolute shining light of this football club.

The old faithful: usual United hero steps up again to spark dramatic late 2-1 win over City

              the-old-faithful:-usual-united-hero-steps-up-again-to-spark-dramatic-late-2-1-win-over-city

Manchester United showed some late ingenuity to pull off a thrilling 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

While the hosts maintained the majority share of possession early on, United kept up the pressure, marking tightly. Lisandro Martinez did well to beat Erling Haaland to a header, putting the ball out for a corner that the defence easily dealt with.

Six minutes in, United launched a promising counter, however, Mason Mount’s cross was a poor one, easily caught by the goalkeeper.

Bruno Fernandes later picked out Diogo Dalot on the left, who had plenty of space. Dalot’s cross into the box was a poor one, floating out for a goal kick. While United showed decent build-up play, they seemed to be struggling to produce the finishing product upon entering the final third.

14 minutes in, disaster struck for Mason Mount as he fell to the floor in discomfort. Ruben Amorim had little option other than to take off the injury-prone player, replacing him with Kobbie Mainoo.

In the 20th minute, Phil Foden took the first shot of the match. The City winger’s long-range effort breezed wide of the near post. Onana must have been relieved, given that he appeared rooted to the spot.

A minute later, Foden attempted a close-range shot that Harry Maguire expertly blocked.

In the 24th minute, United got their best scoring opportunity yet when Amad Diallo burst forward to receive a Kobbie Mainoo through ball. Unfortunately, the pressure was too much as Amad put his shot past both the keeper and the near post.

Just as Bernardo Silva appeared to break through the United defence, dribbling three players, Bruno Fernandes came to the rescue, sliding in to intercept the ball.

After half an hour, United were away on another counter-attack, however, Amad was unable to shoot as the City defence were quick to track back. The ball was dragged back to Martinez, whose shot was blocked, while Manuel Ugarte’s follow-up effort flew well over the top.

Jeremy Doku received the ball on the edge of the box, but Mazraoui did well to block his effort. United’s fortune changed in the corner that followed, with Josko Gvardiol scoring with a header. While Dalot was in front of Gvardiol and unable to reach the high ball, Hojlund was sandwiched between him and Gvardiol, allowing the City defender the space and time he needed to score.

Moments after the restart, United were on the counter, yet Kyle Walker fouled Hojlund before he could proceed. The Dane went toe-to-toe with Walker out of frustration, with the City captain feigning contact and falling to the ground. Even though Walker clearly faked being headbutted by Hojlund, both players received a yellow card.

Three minutes into four minutes of stoppage time, Foden came inches within scoring. His long-range effort brushed Maguire’s boot, veering just wide of the post.

With no accurate shots as of yet, United were clearly lacking the final product, often hesitating and appearing sluggish within City’s final third. Amorim needed to take time to determine how best to alter United’s attacking play in order to find a way back into the match against a home side that was clearly far from their best.

The opening minutes of the second half were marked by poor passing and cohesion by United, continuously losing possession.

Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo both carried the ball into the box during seperate build-ups, but the City defence did well to shut them down with minimal stress.

Fernandes floated a threatening cross into the box after the hour mark, with Amad heading the ball toward the bottom corner. Unfortunately, Ederson performed a full-stretch save to deny the winger. It was the closest United came yet to scoring.

With little over 13 minutes to play, Antony came on for Mazraoui while Leny Yoro replaced Matthijs de Ligt. Joshua Zirkzee replaced Hojlund.

Six minutes from time, Martinez drilled a cross to Mainoo, whose headed effort went over the top.

Moments later, Matheus Nunes clashed with Amad with a rough challenge, bringing him down in the box for a late penalty.

Fernandes looked cool as a cucumber as he stepped up to take the spot kick. The United captain hit it hard and true toward the right post, sending the keeper the wrong way to hand United the equaliser.

One minute from time, United sparked to life. Martinez picked out Amad with a stunning long ball. From there, he burst past the keeper, lobbing the ball up before slotting it into the net from a tight angle on the left. A magical piece of football from the youngster.

Amad was then replaced by Victor Lindelof, with Amorim clearly looking to safeguard United’s lead as five minutes of added time were announced.

It was an impressive win for United, not to mention a precious three points away from home. While United struggled for much of the match, Amorim’s men showed great character near the end to pull off an unlikely win.

Starting XI: Onana, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez, Mount, Fernandes, Hojlund, Amad, Dalot, Ugarte
Subs: Mainoo, Antony, Yoro, Zirkzee, Lindelof

Manchester United came back from behind to beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad. Here are our player ratings from the game.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Andre Onana 4 – Well and truly beaten for City’s opener. Didn’t even react. His distribution was a tad bit below the standard.

Matthijs de Ligt 6 – Decent on the right of the back three and helped Mazraoui deal with City’s wide threat.

Harry Maguire 8 – United’s best defender. Very good in the middle of the three-man defence. Stuck to Erling Haaland like glue and ensured the Norwegian never truly threatened. Some very crucial blocks and tackles inside the box. An unsung hero for United against their cross-town rivals.

Lisandro Martinez 6 – Targeted especially in the air but he held his own. An OK performance really. A brilliant ball to Amad for the winner.

Noussair Mazraoui 5 – Difficult start as he made some sloppy passes and defensive actions but settled as the game proceeded. Linked up well with Amad down the right.

Manuel Ugarte 6 – Covered well for his midfielder partners. Kept it simple, recycled the ball well and looked to get stuck in. Needs to offer a bit more going forward.

Mason Mount 5 – Only on the pitch for 15 minutes before he unfortunately got injured and had to be taken off. Such a shame about the setback. Looked good on the left and was finding some space.

Diogo Dalot 2 – Just can’t seem to get the hang of the wing-back role under Amorim. Poor crosses that Hojlund simply had no chance of getting on the end of. Found himself in space at times but he failed to make it count. Failed to get tight enough to Gvardiol for City’s goal.

Bruno Fernandes 6 – Presented with perhaps United’s best chance of restoring parity but he dragged his finish just wide. Moved slightly higher up the pitch when Mount came off but he wasn’t as impactful as usual. Carelessly lost the ball a few times. Converted from the spot.

Amad Diallo 9 – United’s primary source of threat. Most good things United did in attack came down his side.Brilliant work to win the penalty and deseveredly got the winner to secure the victory for the visitors. United’s best player by a distance.

Rasmus Hojlund 3 – Like Dalot, he could have got tighter to Gvardiol for the host’s opening strike. Mostly had his back to goal, which is not a particular strength of his. Nice pass to Fernandes for the captain’s dinked effort.

                Substitutes

Kobbie Mainoo 6 – Came on to replace Mount. Good in possession but didn’t offer much going forward. Some nice defensive contributions.

Joshua Zirkzee 5 – Didn’t do much when he came on.

Leny Yoro 6 – Helped get United over the line when he

Antony 5 – Same as Zirkzee

Victor Lindelof 5 – Helped get United over the line.

                Christmas turns red in Manchester

Two goals towards the end secured Manchester United a hugely sweet victory against their neighbours Manchester City in the English Premier League today. City’s side have won just one of their last seven league games.

The excitement started as soon as the line-ups were revealed before the match, when it was revealed that neither Marcus Rashford nor Alejandro Garnacho were in the Manchester United squad. Ruben Amorim said that he weighed all possible factors when selecting players for matches and that the decision to leave those clubs behind had been his decision.

When the game itself started, however, there was little fun to begin with. Both teams played cautiously and there was little to no open chances. Manchester United didn’t have a real goal attempt throughout the first half and the home crowd at Manchester City were not much better.

                  City take the lead

In the 36th minute, however, Josko Gvardiol managed to put City 1-0 up when he scored with a header after a pass from Kevin De Bruyne. There was a bit of a stroke of luck over the goal as De Bruyne’s pass went off a defender and scrambled over the United defenders and fell straight on Gvardiol’s head.

Immediately after the goal, things boiled over between Kyle Walker and Rasmus Hojlund. Walker then fouled the Dane, who was anything but satisfied and ran towards the English international. They stuck their noses together for a short while before Walker threw himself to the ground with great effort.

Referee Anthony Taylor gave both players yellow cards and it’s safe to say that Walker has received a barrage of negative reactions on social media for the acting he showed.

The score at halftime was 1-0 and the first minutes of the second half were just as quiet as most of the first half. In the 62nd minute, Manchester United finally managed to threaten the home goal when Ederson had to do his utmost to defend Amad Diallo’s header.

The visitors to United played better in the second half than the first. In the 74th minute, Bruno Fernandes then got the long-awaited set-piece. He got alone against Ederson after a good pass from Höjlund but flicked the ball past the goal.

                  Incredible turnaround

Ten minutes later, however, City player Matheus Nunes was guilty of a terrible mistake. Amad Diallo got in on his pass back to Ederson, the chance seemed to be slipping into the sand, but then Nunes came sprinting back and clumsily fouled Diallo and a penalty was awarded. Bruno Fernandes scored safely from the penalty spot and the score was 1-1.

Manchester City’s crisis then crystallized two minutes later when Amad Diallo received a pass inside City’s defence. He went past Ederson who was on a forest trip and managed to get the ball into the net through the gap of Gvardiol who couldn’t clear it. Diallo crowned his excellent second half, but he was United’s best man in the game.

The incredible scenes and holes of Manchester City and Pep Guardiola do nothing but deepen. City’s team tried everything they could to create chances to equalise but failed.

A final tally of 2-1 for Manchester United, who lift themselves up to 12th place in the league with the win, while Manchester City remain in 5th place and nine points behind top team Liverpool, who have a game to play.

Rasmus Hojlund leads the line and Manuel Ugarte will protect the defence in the United side that will start the Manchester derby against City today.

Hojlund will be flanked by Amad and Mason Mount, with Alejandro Garnacho a surprise omission from the United side.

Marcus Rashford is not selected and not even in the squad.

Garnacho is also not in the squad.

The absence of the pair has not yet been explained. There has been no suggestion of an injury to either player until today.

Meanwhile, Andre Onana is in goal.

The three centre backs will be Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez.

Noussair Mazraoui pushes up to wing back, with Diogo Dalot his counterpart on the left.

Ugarte is joined by Bruno Fernandes in central midfield.

The team is exactly the one leaked by The MEN yesterday.

On the subs bench are Altay Bayindir, Victor Lindelof, Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Kobbie Mainoo, Antony and Josh Zirkzee.

Kick-off at the Etihad is at 4.30pm.

United plotting surprise move for PL star with just one goal this season to replace Rashford – report

Manchester United are targeting Brighton and Hove Albion forward Evan Ferguson amid uncertainty over Marcus Rashford’s future, as per reports.

Rashford is under the spotlight heading into Sunday’s Manchester derby, as multiple reports over the last few days have suggested the England forward is not part of Amorim’s long-term plans and the Red Devils are willing to listen to offers for their star academy graduate.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the 27-year-old has “had enough” at Old Trafford amid constant scrutiny.

However, as things stand, Rashford is still the most reliable attacking option at Amorim’s disposal and it is unlikely United would let him leave without exploring the market for his potential replacement. In that regard, a report from Spain has shed light on the club’s plans.

Manchester United interested in Evan Ferguson

According to Fichajes, Ferguson’s “name has emerged as a priority” as United look for “strong” alternatives to reinforce their attack.

The Brighton sensation is considered one of the best young strikers in the Premier League, owing to his physicality and movement in and around the penalty area. His versatility in attack has also allegedly caught the attention of many.

The 20-year-old Irish talent enjoyed his breakthrough under Roberto De Zerbi. However, the Italian’s departure appears to have impacted his progress, as he has struggled to score this season consistently.

Under new manager Fabian Hurzeler, Ferguson has just one goal to his name in 10 Premier League appearances this term.

Regardless, his potential is still admired, making him an “attractive profile” for United’s project.

It is understood that it is not going to be easy to secure his signature, as Brighton value their number 28 at around £60 million. He is contracted to the club until the summer of 2029.

The Spanish outlet adds that United are also considering other attacking options, including Sporting CP star Viktor Gyökeres.

The Swede international, who was once on Brighton’s books, has already played under Amorim. He currently seems to be a more suitable signing for the Mancunian giants, owing to his prolific form in the Liga Portugal as well as the Champions League.
