“Sources have confirmed…”: Amorim desperate for United to win January transfer race for “one of the best in Europe” – report

    “sources-have-confirmed…”:-amorim-desperate-for-united-to-win-january-transfer-race-for-“one-of-the-best-in-europe”-–-report

Manchester United lost their fifth game of December on Thursday with Wolverhampton Wanderers beating them 2-0 at the Molineux Stadium.

Ruben Amorim has now won a meagre seven points from a possible 21 since his arrival, which is less than the points former boss Erik ten Hag had accrued in his final seven matches before he received his marching orders.

The current United squad looks ill-equipped to deal with the Portuguese’s demands and a change in approach might be the order of the day or else the team looks to be gearing up for a relegation scrap.

The team lacks an out-and-out goalscorer with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling to make an impact when given the chance to start games, with both more suited to the role of a substitute.

    United need reinforcements up top

That is why, as per Teamtalk, Amorim has demanded INEOS to acquire disgruntled Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani’s signature in January.

PSG are open to selling the Frenchman in January with Luis Enrique not his biggest fan, however, the move will be far from easy with multiple Premier League sides in the race.

Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal all like the 26-year-old, who prefers a move to the Premier League and wants to play for a club who are playing in the Champions League.

“Ruben Amorim is hopeful Manchester United can sign Randal Kolo Muani in January but they will face competition from several other Premier League sides for the Paris Saint-Germain striker, TEAMtalk can reveal.

    Amorim wants Kolo Muani

“Sources have now confirmed to TEAMtalk that the French striker wants to move to the Premier League and Kolo Muani is keen to keep playing in the Champions League.”

The Red Devils are languishing in 14th position and will need to work overtime to convince Kolo Muani to trade Paris for Manchester.

The France international has looked like a shadow of his former self since his move to Ligue 1 but two season ago, he netted 23 goals while also registering 17 assists for former outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

He can play all across the frontline and will be desperate to prove his critics wrong, just the sort of hungry player United need right now. He will also be available for a cut-price fee, something that will suit INEOS.

Whether they can land the PSG striker, called “one of the best strikers in Europe“, ahead of their league rivals remains to be seen.

Man Utd submit offer for PSG defender as agent of £50m Barcelona star ‘arrives’ for free transfer talks

      man-utd-submit-offer-for-psg-defender-as-agent-of-50m-barcelona-star-‘arrives’-for-free-transfer-talks

Manchester United have reportedly made an offer for PSG full-back Nuno Mendes, while the agent of a £50m Barcelona star ‘arrived in Manchester on Boxing Day’ for talks over a possible free transfer in January.

Ruben Amorim has now lost more games than he’s won as Manchester United boss after their 2-0 defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day and he’s understandably keen to add to his squad in the January transfer window in an attempt to revert their slide into mediocrity.

That won’t be easy given the supposed proximity to the club flouting Premier League profit and sustainability rules, with the lack of interest as things stand in wantaway star Marcus Rashford not helping in their quest to raise funds for new additions.

In a bid to solve one particularly problematic position at the club, French outlet RMC claim the Red Devils have ‘made an offer’ for left-back Nuno Mendes.

Luke Shaw has only played 98 minutes so far this season after going into the campaign with a knee injury, with his consistent problems reportedly leading Amorim to ‘green light’ his transfer in January, with Antonio Conte interested in signing him for Napoli.

Alternative left-back option Tyrell Malacia has returned to fitness after a significant spell on the sidelines but has failed to convince.

The report claims that while ‘PSG absolutely want to keep Mendes’ negotiations over a contract extension have reached a ‘standstill’ and the Portugal international now ‘wants to leave the club’.

It’s claimed Mendes ‘believes that the salary offered does not correspond to his status as a starter’ and now ‘the contact is broken’.

He’s ‘in the sights of several major European clubs’ but Man Utd are the only side said to have ‘made an offer’, with the Red Devils’ ‘pressing’ to sign him ‘not leaving the 22-year-old indifferent’. In other words, he’s interested in a move to Old Trafford.

It’s thought another problem beyond the supposedly meagre salary is Mendes being used in a more defensive role under Luis Enrique, which means he ‘takes less pleasure’ in playing than he does while playing as a wing-back, as he would under Amorim at United.

Another huge boost arrived for United on the day Bruno Fernandes embarrassed himself against Wolves, with the agent of Dani Olmo ‘arriving in Manchester on Boxing Day’ according to the Daily Mail.

Barcelona are battling to register the Spain international – who played such a huge role in his country’s Euro 2024 win – ahead of La Lisa’s January 1 deadline.

Olmo joined Barca from RB Leipzig in the summer but could only be registered on a temporary basis until the end of the calendar year owing to the Spanish league’s financial constraints which continue to hamper the Catalans.

It means the playmaker can leave as a free agent in January if the Spain football federation continue to block his registration, as they push Barcelona to make more cuts in order to comply with their financial guidelines.

Barcelona have started legal proceedings against La Liga and were hoping to reach a resolution before the end of the year, but with the clock ticking, Premier League sides have been alerted to his possible availability, with United supposedly chief among them.

Olmo wants to stay at Barcelona but his agent Andy Bar has been forced to explore alternative moves for the 26-year-old, with the Premier League an attractive landing spot should Barcelona fail to find a fix for their problem.

Serie A giants ready to swoop in January for €20m United star called “the best in the world” by Ten Hag – report

        serie-a-giants-ready-to-swoop-in-january-for-e20m-united-star-called-“the-best-in-the-world”-by-ten-hag-–-report

Manchester United have not had a specialist left-back for the best part of two years now, and the situation has hampered the way Ruben Amorim wants to operate.

Luke Shaw suffered yet another injury while Tyrell Malacia has struggled since his return from a long-term issue, forcing the head coach to play Diogo Dalot on the left flank.

Amorim has explained that his compatriot is more suited to the right flank but due to a lack of options, he has been forced to play ther ex-Porto star as the left wingback.

The Portuguese tactician has asked for help in January but for any deal to materialise, player sales will be required owing to the precarious PSR situation the club is facing after an exorbitant summer spend couple with compensation paid to former boss Erik ten Hag as well as Sporting Lisbon.

Shaw’s injury record means he has no future under Amorim

One player who could surprisingly make way in the winter is Shaw with Napoli Calcio Live claiming that Antonio Conte wants the United full-back to join Napoli in January despite his injury history.

Shaw reportedly does not feature in Amorim’s plans moving forward and the Naples outfit are looking to capitalise with both clubs having excellent relations after the summer deal which saw Scott McTominay leave Manchester for Napoli.

The England international’s ability to play on the left-side of the defence as well as in a three-man backline represents a great market opportunity for Conte and a winter approach is on the cards.

“The relationship between Napoli and Manchester United is excellent. There is a lot of talk about Rashford, Zirkzee or Maguire, but there could also be another profile destined to enter Manna’s list.

“We are talking about Luke Shaw. The 1995 player is no longer part of Amorim’s plans and they are working to find a different solution in this winter transfer market.

        Napoli want Shaw

“Napoli represents a possibility considering the need to have a deputy for Olivera and his ability to play in a three-man defense. Manchester United is ready to give the green light to this transfer.

“Of course, at the moment we are talking about a simple hypothesis. There is no negotiation underway between Manchester United and Napoli, but the Neapolitans could soon test the waters to understand the feasibility of this operation during the winter transfer market. In the coming days we will have a much clearer picture.”

When fit, Ten Hag had claimed that the 29-year-old is Shaw is the ‘best left-back in the world‘ but injuries have ruined his career ever since that nasty double leg break 10 years ago.

Shaw had managed three appearances this season, missing 25 games thus far while last term, he missed more than 30 matches due to persistent niggles.

It is clear that the 20-time English league champions need to look past him and Napoli could offer him the perfect exit route. Shaw’s market value stands at €20 million and INEOS would do well to earn as much from a sale.

Man Utd star gives one reason why Amorim is finding job ‘really tough’ with rivals ‘targeting’ weakness

          man-utd-star-gives-one-reason-why-amorim-is-finding-job-‘really-tough’-with-rivals-‘targeting’-weakness

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has given one reason for head coach Ruben Amorim finding his first month in charge “really tough”.

39-year-old Amorim was appointed to replace Erik ten Hag, who was sacked last month following United‘s miserable start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Man Utd did not have a distinct style of play under Ten Hag, but this has been the case following Amorim’s arrival. There have been positives from his start to life at Old Trafford, but they have suffered three straight defeats across all competitions.

The Red Devils are only eight points clear of the relegation zone after their 2-0 loss on Boxing Day against Wolves as they sit 14th in the Premier League.

Former captain Maguire reckons it’s been “really tough” for Amorim because he’s not “come in with a similar style” to Ten Hag.

“I think it’s really tough for the manager and his team coming in because it’s not like he’s come in with a similar style to the old manager,” Maguire admitted.

READ: Premier League Boxing Day Winners and Losers: Liverpool cruise on; City, United, Spurs battle for banter supremacy

“They are the opposite in terms of what they demand and what they want, so it’s tough for them because they know they want to work with the team on the training pitch and improve things and the defending principles and the set piece principles.

“So it has been a tough month with games but again we don’t want to use it as an excuse. This club demands winning and at the moment we’re not. It’s not good enough for us and the fans.”

Maguire has also explained why he thinks rival Premier League clubs are “targeting” Man Utd at “set-plays”.

“When it keeps happening, you can’t really put it down to luck, but it’s tough to take that teams have scored twice from a corner,” Maguire added.

“I think the Tottenham one’s a foul, that’s quite clear. I haven’t seen this one back.

“Sometimes, with set-plays you’ve got to hold your hands up and say you can’t do much about it, but there’s others where you’ve got to look at yourselves and improve on it. I think the Bournemouth one was tough – a great header, a great ball.

“Tonight, it’s disappointing to go down to 10 men, not really give them anything, look really solid in the second half, and to concede again [like that], especially the first of the game. Set-plays are so important in football matches and they decide games.

“A lot of the games when they are tight and 50-50 are decided with the first goal. The first goal has been a set-play far too many times against us, and it’s disappointing. How do we resolve it? Work more on the training pitch.

“I think teams now are maybe targeting our area of set-plays. The strange thing is that I don’t feel like we are conceding many chances from them. They’ve had a few set-plays tonight and we’ve dealt with them really well and then they’ve gone and scored from one.

“I think it’s about hard work, keep the belief and things will change. We have players who can defend the box well. They will change; we’ve just got to stick together.”

Man Utd hero offers himself to Amorim as Red Devils boss ‘must win games’ despite excuses

              man-utd-hero-offers-himself-to-amorim-as-red-devils-boss-‘must-win-games’-despite-excuses

Ruben Amorim must “win games” now despite the excuse of Manchester United being in a period of “transition”, according to a Red Devils hero who’s offered his services to the new head coach.

Defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day means Amorim has now lost more games than he’s won in charge of Man Utd, with the mammoth task at hand now clear if it hadn’t been before.

Amorim brought a host of new coaching with him to United including assistant Emanuel Ferro, with many of predecessor Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff cast out, including Ruud van Nistelrooy, who’s since taken over at Leicester after a brief caretaker spell in charge at Old Trafford.

But another United legend has also offered up his services in a bid to get “the club back winning trophies”.

Former centre-back Jaap Stay told Sports Lens: “I’d love to coach at Manchester United but they haven’t picked up the phone,” he revealed.

“I think everyone who has been associated with the club would love to go back and help. Having been in management myself I have coached and helping them in any role would be great.

“I’m always open for talks because I’d love to see the club back winning trophies and maybe I could help coach the defence, but with the manager lots of new staff have come in so they have plenty of options. But you never know.”

United are currently 14th in the Premier League, making this the first time they’ve been in the bottom half of the table on Christmas Day since 1989, and while Stam acknowledges they’re in a “transition period” under Amorim, he also insists they must to find a way to win.

The 52-year-old, who was last seen in English football as manager of Reading over six years ago, added: “Everyone is hoping that Manchester United can compete for the Premier League next season and the manager will as well, but in the meantime it’s very important to win matches and climb up the table.

“It’s a transition period and the players need time to adapt, but there is still pressure to win matches with his new style and to be in a decent position in the table. Ruben Amorim will be working hard to see which players best suit his system but until then there will be a lot of change.”

Ahead of the visit of in-form Newcastle on Monday, Amorim responded to suggestions his job may already be in danger.

“The manager of Manchester United can never, no matter what, be comfortable, and I know the reason that I’m that I’m in,” Amorim said.

“I know that if we don’t win, regardless, if they pay the buyout [for me] or not, I know that every manager is in danger and I like that I like that because that is the job, so I understand the question.

“You can argue that I have been here one month and I’ve had four training [sessions], but we are not winning. That is the reality and I’m quite comfortable with that.”

Beleaguered United set for much-needed January windfall from sale of PL star – report

                beleaguered-united-set-for-much-needed-january-windfall-from-sale-of-pl-star-–-report

Manchester United could be in line to receive some much needed cash in the January transfer window should Fulham sell Andreas Pereira.

The Brazilian spent eight seasons as a United player before finally departing the club for Fulham back in 2022.

He was sold for a fee of £10 million plus £3 million in add-ons but interestingly they also included a 20% sell-on fee as part of the deal.

United are currently languishing in 14th place after a string of insipid performances and need to strengthen their beleaguered squad in the January window.

Sadly, with PSR restrictions and massive transfer debt, there looks to be little money to spend unless sales can be delivered to generate some much needed income.

One potential source of cash could be Pereira’s potential departure from Fulham.

Brazilian reporter Vene Casagrande claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that “Palmeiras have offered Fulham €20 million for Andreas Pereira.”

If the English team does not accept, Verdão has ‘available’ another €2 million to increase the offer. In other words, the São Paulo club’s financial limit in this operation is €22 million.

Pereira is reportedly on board with the move and has encouraged the Brazilian side to try and pursue a deal with the Cottagers.

Therefore should Fulham accept a deal of €22 million, United could receive around €4.4 million of the fee.

Chelsea were also linked with a move for the player in the summer that would have netted United even more but it looks like the fee discussed in the summer will not be reached in the January window.

Whilst €4.4 million does not sound like much to get excited about, every little could help with United’s current predicament as they must now somehow improve a squad that is spiralling downwards and is in urgent need of a revamp.

United must resolve this “standard” Andre Onana issue to have any chance of improving their defensive fortunes – analysis

                  united-must-resolve-this-“standard”-andre-onana-issue-to-have-any-chance-of-improving-their-defensive-fortunes-–-analysis

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana continued to make the same alarming error that he has struggled with in recent times when his team fell to a 2-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers last night.

This issue was his ability to maintain control in his box during a corner kick as opposing players looked to restrict his movement.

In the 58th minute, Matheus Cunha stepped up to take a corner, curling his ball into the back of the net directly from the corner flag.

While an impressive feat, Onana remained sandwiched between two Wolves attackers, restricting his movement and preventing him from reaching the ball when he rose to stop it.

“Onana, like all goalkeepers, are coming under pressure at corner kicks. Carefully orchestrated blocking using a player in front of and behind the goalkeeper is now standard practice,” former PGMOL chief and FIFA official Keith Hackett explained.

“Wolves opened the scoring with the goalkeeper protesting. Goalkeepers need to seriously think how they can overcome this what has now become standard practice.”

Having conceded directly from a corner last night, United have now conceded a club-record 18 goals from free-kicks and corners for the year.

But while Onana may be the keeper between the sticks, there are more figures at the club who are at fault for this disastrous situation than the Cameroonian alone.

Why have his defenders never piped up and pointed out the error of his ways? Why is it that they keep making the same defensive errors from corners, as was seen from goals in the Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur defeats?

What’s more, Ruben Amorim’s coaching staff should be the ones pointing this out. Jelle ten Rouwelaar, who was appointed goalkeeping coach in July, has failed to rectify Onana’s issues since his arrival.

But aside from Onana’s performance issues and the shortfalls of his defence, there are simple fixes that can be implemented in order to patch up United’s defence in set pieces. Why not place a player at the near and far posts for extra coverage? That seems like a basic tactic that makes logical sense given the ample space the defenders tend to give the opposition.

No matter how many goalkeeping errors Onana makes in any given match, United’s defensive woes extend far beyond his capabilities. After all, even in matches when the Cameroonian is at his impressive best, glitches from the rest of the defence always pose the risk of easy goals for United’s opponents.

Man Utd: Amorim ‘wants’ one player ‘out now’ as Red Devils target Pro League sensation to replace him

                    man-utd:-amorim-‘wants’-one-player-‘out-now’-as-red-devils-target-pro-league-sensation-to-replace-him

Manchester United are interested in signing Belgium Under-21 international Senne Lammens as a possible replacement for an Erik ten Hag addition that Ruben Amorim reportedly doesn’t fancy.

Lammens established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Royal Antwerp last season and his displays this term have caught the eye of some top European sides, with Borussia Dortmund said to view him as a player with ‘huge potential’.

That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim United ‘are looking at the 22-year-old as they assess their long-term options for goalkeepers’.

United scouts have watched him in the Belgian Pro League as they scour for goalkeepers ‘in case they need to make a replacement in the next windows’.

The report suggests interest in Lammens is more based on the possibility of Turkey international Altay Bayindir looking to leave the club in search of regular football, but a report earlier this month suggested Amorim wants a new goalkeeper to replace starting stopper Andre Onana.

The Cameroon international dropped a couple of clangers against Nottingham Forest and Viktoria Plzen shortly after Amorim took charge of the Red Devils, and was beaten directly from a corner against Wolves on Boxing Day to add to suggestions that Amorim doesn’t fancy him.

The report in Spain claimed Amorim ‘wants him out now’ and ‘asks for a top replacement for January’ after ‘losing patience’ with Onana.

It is understood that the Cameroonian ‘has not managed to convince the Portuguese coach, who is already planning his replacement for the winter transfer market’.

That report named Nice goalkeeper Marcin Bulka as Amorim’s preferred choice, who could be signed for around €20m and would be an ‘undisputed starter’.

It’s not clear whether Amorim would also consider Lammens as a first-choice option but he would likely cost significantly less than Bulka.

Transfermarkt value the Belgian at just €4.5m, and with United’s spending set to be limited in the January transfer window as they need to comply with profit and sustainability rules, he would be an attractive addition, particularly if he’s ready to compete for a starting spot at Old Trafford

Despite the rumours, Amorim came out and defended Onana after criticism earlier this month.

The Man Utd boss said: “Yeah we have to take it like it is. He had already, in the past, a situation like that. So we have to work on this.

“If you see the play, we are trying to build up a lot with the goalkeeper making the balls with Matta [Matthijs de Ligt] a lot of times.

“This time, we have a disconnect a little bit during the play and, when we try this, we suffered a goal, a difficult goal for us in the start of the second half. But we managed today, not like against Nottingham [Forest]. We managed to help Onana, like he did in the past for us.”

Manchester United have reportedly lodged a bid for Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes with less than a week left until the opening of the January transfer window.

United are desperate to bolster their options at left-back amidst concerns over the fitness of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Shaw remains sidelined with an injury he suffered earlier this month while there are question marks over Malacia’s long-term suitability after an extremely lengthy period on the sidelines.

Malacia was not named in Ruben Amorim’s matchday squad to face Wolverhampton Wanderers and it was claimed that his absence was not injury-related.

United have been linked with several left-backs including Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth), Antonee Robinson (Fulham), Alvaro Fernandez (Benfica) and of course, Mendes.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Red Devils established contact with Mendes’ agent – Jorge Mendes – to explore the possibility of getting a deal over the line.

The Portugal international has two years remaining on his current contract and talks with PSG over an extension have proven difficult.

Now, RMC journalist Fabrice Hawkins has given an update on the situation, indicating that United have made an offer to secure his services.

According to Hawkins, “Contact is broken. Launched in negotiations for the extension of his contract, PSG and its left-back Nuno Mendes are unable to find common ground. The club has made offers to the Portuguese international, whose current contract runs until 2026. The player has refused them.”

“Nuño Mendes believes that the salary offered by PSG does not correspond to his status as a starter. To the point that the former Sporting CP player now sees himself elsewhere.”

“The Portuguese international is indeed in the sights of several big European clubs. Among them, Manchester United, who have made an offer and whose pressing does not leave the 22-year-old full-back indifferent.”

Hawkins adds that PSG have ruled out a January exit for Mendes and are still hopeful of agreeing fresh terms in January.

Mendes is not happy with his role under Luis Enrique. The 22-year-old has been forced to be more defensive while his main strengths lie in attacking areas or when he goes forward.

Amorim knows the player well, having coached him for a season at Sporting Lisbon. Mendes’ desire to surge forward also makes him a perfect fit for Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.
