Out-of-favour United trio offered to Mourinho with former United boss especially keen on €35m star – report

With Manchester United languishing in 14th position in the Premier League table, head coach Ruben Amorim is desperate for reinforcements as he seeks to get the club out of this mess.

But owing to their summer transfer splurge as well as mid-season payoffs to both former boss Erik ten Hag and Sporting Lisbon, the club has very little PSR wriggle room.

As a result, only player sales can allow INEOS to enter the market and owing to the team’s poor form, almost all of their underperforming, overpaid stars are on the market.

As revealed by Turkish outlet Fanatik, intermediaries have offered three United stars to Fenerbahce, who are currently managed by former United boss Jose Mourinho.

    Fenerbahce offered United trio

Among the trio — Christian Eriksen, Antony and Victor Lindelof, the Portuguese is very interested in a reunion with the Swede, who was brought to Old Trafford by Mourinho himself.

As of now, the Turkish giants, who are second in their league, have not taken any decision on whether to go after the Brazilian and the Dane.

The report surprisingly also states that Fener have their eyes on both Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford, with the duo failing to adapt with Amorim’s demands.

Even though the Mancunian has declared his intention to leave, Fenerbahce will find it difficult to afford his services while Zirkzee seems to be heading to Juventus.

“It was reported that Lindelöf, Eriksen and Antony were offered to the Yellow-Navy Blues through intermediaries. It was reported that the Yellow-Navy Blues, who are expected to make two stopper transfers, are particularly keen on Victor Lindelöf.

“The Swedish defender was transferred from Benfica to Manchester United by Mourinho in 2017 for 35 million Euros. It was reported that the Portuguese coach was positive about the 30-year-old defender.

    Mourinho wants Lindelof

“It was also reported that no decision had been made regarding Antony and Eriksen. On the other hand, it was stated that Fenerbahçe was following the situations of Rashford and Zirkzee, but that the transfer of both stars was very difficult. There is a high probability that Rashford will go to PSG and Zirkzee to Juventus.”

Lindelof’s current deal ends in 2025 and a January exit could allow the Red Devils to recoup a small fee while also clearing his wages of £120,000 per week off the books.

He is currently injured and is lower down the pecking order, and Amorim is open to his departure. Eriksen’s deal also ends next summer and the club have no intention of offering him an extension.

As for Antony, United know it will be difficult to earn even half of what they paid Ajax and are resigned to losing him on the cheap with lots of clubs eyeing a loan.

Man Utd: Amorim confirms January deal to aid ‘starving’ Red Devils as Wayne Rooney return mooted

Ruben Amorim has confirmed Manchester United’s plans to trigger the option to extend Harry Maguire’s contract at Old Trafford to aid his “starving” team.

Maguire was stripped of the captaincy and put on the transfer market during the reign of Amorim’s predecessor Erik ten Hag, but regained favour under the Dutchman at the end of his time at the club having decided to remain and fight for his place despite nearly moving to West Ham in the summer of 2023.

The England international became the most expensive defender in the world when he made his £80m switch from Leicester in 2019 and has since made 221 appearances for the club.

It was assumed that United were willing to let Maguire’s contract run down, allowing him to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, but it was claimed last week that Amorim is ‘putting pressure’ on the club bosses to take up the option of extending his stay by a further 12 months.

The Portuguese boss has ‘pinpointed him as one of the more reliable members of the dressing room since heading into the dugout’ and confirmed ahead of his side’s clash with Liverpool on Sunday that the club is going to trigger his option.

Amorim said: “I spoke with him [Harry] this morning and I told him he has to improve on the pitch, we need him a lot. Also, he has to improve as a leader. We all know situation he had here but we need him a lot in this moment, but we are going to trigger the option for him. We are starving for leaders on the pitch. He is a leader.”

But Amorim was eager to point out that he needs other members of his squad to “step up” as leaders in the dressing room.

He added: “I think it is not one thing of our team; it is all the teams. If you want to be a top, top team you have to have leaders. We have that in the dressing room but they have to step up. We need the guys that are more experienced to help the younger players.”

Amorim was also asked about Marcus Rashford, who was included in the squad for the Newcastle clash on Monday, and confirmed that the wantaway forward is out again due to illness.

He said: “It’s the same situation. At the moment, he’s ill, he’s not training so we’ll see in the future but he’s like a normal player, then I make a selection so it’s the same. I think he’s going to be out this week, he’s not training. We’ll see but I think this week he’s out.”

Goalscoring continues to be a significant problem for Amorim at United amid rumours he’s desperate to sign a new striker, with Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen among the fanciful options.

But instead of signing a new striker, which will prove difficult if the club fails to move players on in January, they could instead look to bring in a new coach to aid their finishing woes.

Former United defender Wes Brown believes Wayne Rooney – who was recently let go by Plymouth – could be a good addition to Amorim’s staff.

“If Wayne wanted to spend time as a striking coach he would be absolutely brilliant at it,” Brown said. “He was one of the best goalscorers we’ve ever seen and was a top playmaker as well. If he wanted to do that he would be very good on movement and things like that, he was one of the best to do it.

“Could he help Rasmus Hojlund at United? I think all young strikers would love to listen to Wayne and his knowledge.

“When I was a young player I remember getting a few tips from Laurent Blanc and the little things like that can really help. If Wayne was on hand to give out some advice, I’m sure everyone would be willing to listen.”

Amorim says United will trigger Harry Maguire’s 1-year contract extension

Ruben Amorim says Harry Maguire will stay at the club another season ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Anfield to face league leaders Liverpool on Sunday.

Amorim was speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the game and confirmed that good progress is also being made on Amad’s new contract.

The boss said: “”Amad is near, Harry Maguire we are going to trigger our option.

“I spoke with him this morning, I told him he has to improve on the pitch, we need him a lot. Also, he has to improve as a leader. We all know situation he had here but we need him a lot in this moment, but we are going to trigger the option for him.

“We are starving for leaders on the pitch. He is a leader.. We need him a lot in this moment.”

Amorim also said Marcus Rashford is ill and will not be available to play against Arne Slot’s men.

“At the moment he is ill, he is not training. I think he is going to be out this week. We will see.”

Asked if anything has changed in regard to the England man, he replied “It’s the same, he’s not trained because he’s ill, but he’s like every other player.”

Speaking about United’s current predicament, Amorim said:

“The only solution is to work hard. We cannot change the last game.”

Asked in what areas he is focussing training, he replied “Everything!”

In regard to possible transfers in the January window, Amorim commented: “I will keep that to myself, but we will try and do something.”

The coach was also asked once again about the tactical setup and said:

“We play most of the games with three. Sometimes, Bruno [Fernandes] was in a different position, the midfield. I know people look for the three defenders but I don’t see the game like that. We will adapt for every opponent. We need time.”

Amorim was then asked about Sunday’s opponents, Liverpool.

“I am just focused on the performance. I am not focused on losing and what could happen. We know what we are going to face. My focus is to prepare the team. I want to improve that [the first 15 minutes vs Newcastle]. Our focus is not thinking about any bad result.”

“We are in different contexts,” he added. “They’re a strong team, but like I said we’ll do what we can to win the game.”

The boss also said it is important for his team to have leaders.

“I think it is not one thing of our team; it is all the teams,” he said.

“If you want to be a top, top team you have to have leaders. We have that in the dressing room but they have to step up, because we have a lot of kids as well. We need the guys that are more experienced to help the younger players.”

Man Utd star ‘would be done’ at Old Trafford if Ruben Amorim was Sir Alex Ferguson

Ruben Amorim has been told that Manchester United star Joshua Zirkzee “would be done” at Old Trafford if Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge of the club.

United fell to their fifth defeat in their last six Premier League games as Newcastle tore them apart in the opening half hour of their 2-0 victory over the Red Devils on Monday.

Amorim opted to start Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in midfield in a baffling move deserving of criticism, with Kobbie Mainoo’s introduction after 33 minutes evening things up against Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali.

Zirkzee was the man hauled off in favour of Mainoo and was jeered by the shameful so-called fans at Old Trafford.

The Netherlands international was understandably frustrated by his early substitution and initially walked down the tunnel and back to the changing room before returning to United’s bench for the rest of the game.

Former Man Utd goalkeeper Ben Foster, who spent five years under Ferguson, says that wouldn’t have been tolerated by the legendary boss.

“When he [Zirkzee] walked off down the tunnel… If Alex Ferguson would have been manager, that player would have been done,” Foster said on his YouTube channel.

“Whoever that is, if you walk off that pitch when you’ve been brought off after 30 minutes, get a coat and walk straight into the dressing room. You’re done. I promise you, you’re done. It just doesn’t work like that.

“And I guarantee you, when he got back to the changing room, somebody would have said to him, ‘You need to get back outside. This is not a good look… The camera has just watched you walk all the way down the line, the fans are booing.’

“It is a horrible situation. I really feel for him. At that moment in time, the atmosphere in Old Trafford was horrible. United were getting pumped.

“They were on the back foot and it was almost like he was the scapegoat. He was just one of 11 problems on that pitch.”

Zirkzee has underwhelmed following his £36.5m move from Atalanta last summer, scoring just three goals in 19 Premier League appearances.

Speaking after the Dutch forward was hauled off against Newcastle, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand said he was ‘really gutted’ for the 23-year-old.

“I feel for him. I’m really, really gutted for him as a former professional footballer,” the ex-England defender said.

“To be dragged off after 30 minutes is hard to take and then the reaction in the stadium as well, there was some boos and stuff like that. It’s difficult, man.

“My heart goes out to him and I hope he can recover and I hope he gets rebuilt from within, from the players and the manager.

“The manager said, ‘I’m going to go and speak to him because it was a tactical decision’, but what I would say is that this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this happen.

“We’ve seen better players come back from this, we’ve seen some bigger and better players dragged off at these times in a game and it’s about having the resilience to come back as well.

“This is a tough situation, I know that, but he needs people like Bruno, the captain of the team, who needs to set the right example discipline-wise but also in terms of a reaction to certain situations.

“We need people like him [Fernandes] to go and get around Zirkzee and make sure, ‘You know what, this ain’t the end for you, there’s a future here’.

“One thing I would say is we’re not seeing the best of any of our players right now and we’ve been saying that for a long time anyway.

“But I think the manager needs to get to a pre-season and to really hammer home his ideas and then we can have a real judgement on him as a manager.”

Bayern Munich hatching plan to hijack United’s deal for perfect £17m target – report

Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in Benfica star and Manchester United target Alvaro Fernandez amidst ongoing uncertainty over the future of Alphonso Davies.

United are keen on signing a left-wing-back this month in an effort to get their season back on track. This position has been a problem all term, primarily due to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s fitness struggles.

Diogo Dalot has temporarily filled in but he is hardly an expert and is unsurprisingly not as effective on that side of the pitch.

The Red Devils have been linked to several left-sided full-backs including Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth), Antonee Robinson (Fulham), Davies and of course, Fernandez.

Davies could be available on a free in the summer but this is not guaranteed as he’s in talks over a new contract with Bayern.

However, it seems that the Bundesliga giants are also making contingency plans in the event that they lose the Canada international, who is also on the radar of other teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid.

According to Record Portugal, Bayern have identified United target Fernandez as a potential replacement for Davies if he ends up departing the Allianz Arena.

The news outlet reveals that Bayern are keeping close tabs on Fernandez as a potential option.

United inserted a buy-back clause in Fernandez’s contract when they sold him to Benfica in the summer. The value of this buy-back option is thought to be worth around £17m.

Fernandez’s Benfica contract runs until 2029.

It’s easy to see why Fernandez is wanted by some of the biggest clubs in Europe. So far this term, the 21-year-old has made 15 Liga Portugal appearances, scoring twice and providing one assist in that period.

A modern full-back who excels in attacking areas, Fernandez looks very suited to the demands of Ruben Amorim’s tactics. He would also be available for a knockdown fee, which makes a swoop even more attractive.

Agent of United star Amorim wants out says his client “wants to stay and play” for the club

The agent of Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has confirmed that the player is keen to stay at Old Trafford despite speculation that he could be on his way out.

United signed Bayindir in 2023 to provide competition for Andre Onana but he has only managed just four appearances for the club since his arrival.

Bayindir has featured once under Ruben Amorim but failed to make an impression as he conceded four times against Tottenham Hotspur last month as the Red Devils were dumped out of the Carabao Cup in the quarter-final stage of the competition.

The 26-year-old was at fault for at least two of the four goals United let in vs. Ange Postecoglou’s men.

Fabrizio Romano revealed that United are willing to let Bayindir leave in case a suitable offer for him is made.

United have been linked to a number of potential replacements for the Turkey international including Bart Verbruggen (Brighton & Hove Albion), Illan Meslier (Leeds United), John Victor (Botafogo) and Senne Lammens (Royal Antwerp).

However, according to Bayindir’s agent, his client is not currently thinking about parting ways with United in January.

Bayindir’s representative, Sefa Seyrek, told news outlet Sports Digitale, “There were offers from many European clubs and the Premier League for Altay at the beginning of the season.”

“There are currently clubs that are interested, but Altay wants to stay and play for Manchester United.”

“The club definitely does not want to let Altay go.”

                — Sports Digitale (@SportsDigitale) January 3, 2025

Bayindir’s situation is one to definitely watch out for as the January transfer window progresses.

Meanwhile, the 20-time English champions are back in action on Sunday when they meet bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield. Kick-off is at 16:30 GMT.

Former Manchester United player Andreas Pereira is attracting the interest of Olympique de Marseille.

The Brazilian left Old Trafford in 2022 after spending 11 years at the club, joining from PSV Eindhoven’s academy in 2011.

He never really managed to hold down a first team place at United and only managed 75 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

Pereira has found much more luck at Fulham, where he has become an integral part of their team as they are flying high in the Premier League in eighth place, just three points off fifth in the table.

The Brazilian has been linked with a move away from the Cottagers as Brazilian side Palmeiras are reportedly interested in sealing a deal for the 29 year old.

The Times now report that the Brazil international is also on the radar of Ligue 1 side Marseille.

“Roberto De Zerbi remains keen on taking former Manchester United attacking midfielder to Ligue 1 after £20 million bid was rejected last summer.”

“Marseille have been weighing up a move for the Brazil attacking midfielder, who has 18 months remaining on his contract.”

The former United man has already spoken of his links with De Zerbi. He mentioned in an interview in Brazil that it would be “very cool” to play for Marseille and waxed lyrical over the Italian’s attractive style of play.

Were Pereria to join Marseille, he would not only join a team who are second in the French league but also get the chance to play with his former teammate at United, Mason Greenwood.

United will also be paying close attention to any transfer as they have a 20% sell-on clause for any future deal involving Pereira and will welcome interest from European clubs to drive up the price.

The Red Devils are under immense financial pressure but also need to strengthen in the January window, so any extra funding would be warmly welcomed at Old Trafford.

Former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera could leave Athletic Bilbao for Boca Juniors in Argentina.

The Spaniard signed for United in 2014 and left on a free in 2019 after failing to agree a new contract with the club.

He played 189 times for the Old Trafford side, scoring 20 goals in all competitions, winning the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and the Europa League during his time in England.

After leaving United, he went on to play three season with Paris Saint-Germain and is now in his third season back at his former club, Athletic Bilbao.

Spanish outlet Fichajes report that Herrera is wanted by a club who have a collection of former United players.

Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo and Edinson Cavani all represent Boca Juniors and according to the website, Herrera might be the next ex-Red Devil to line up for the Xeneizes.

Fichajes report that “the transfer market in South America could surprise with a high-profile move: Boca Juniors has set its sights on Ander Herrera.”

The Argentine giants’ “management has already initiated preliminary contacts with the player’s entourage, showing serious intentions to incorporate the former Spanish national team player.”

His ties with former teammates and to Spanish coach Fernando Gago “seem to be key factors in this operation” as the coach is pushing for Boca to make a move for the 35 year old midfielder.

Despite having a contract until this summer, Herrera is said to be “motivated” by a move to Argentinian football and the experience of playing in front of passionate fans whilst being a vital player in one of biggest teams on the continent.

Nonetheless, any deal may be tough to complete due to the contractual complications that exist in Spanish football.

The former United man has so far played 13 matches all season for the Basque side but has yet to play a full 90 minutes in a league match in this campaign.

Man Utd ‘super-sleuths identify’ Amorim’s mole as Red Devils team leaks ‘culprit’ uncovered

Manchester United stars became ‘super-sleuths’ in a bid to uncover the mole behind the team news leaks and the Red Devils ‘culprit’ has reportedly been identified.

Ruben Amorim has endured a torrid start to his Old Trafford tenure, losing six of his 11 games at the helm, including 5 of his last six in the Premier League to put them at risk of being pulled down into a relegation fight.

His job has been made harder by team news being leaked to the press before they play important matches, including the starting XI for their clash with Man City – the only game they’ve won in this recent horror run – which was leaked the night before Amad Diallo proved to be the hero at the Etihad.

Man Utd boss Amorim was unhappy that the team news had been linked, he commented: “I know that story, I think it is impossible to fix, you have a lot of people in the club, the players talk with agents, it is not a good thing.”

And The Sun claimed that Man Utd ‘launched an investigation into which player is leaking team news information’ and Amad Diallo and Garnacho – who was left out of the United squad on derby day – were ‘quizzed by new boss Ruben Amorim as to whether they are responsible’.

                      The report added:

‘Garnacho’s brother Roberto had been accused on social media of being one source.

‘Team news has leaked in the past when Alejandro has been left out.

‘Roberto denied last week that he is the mole.’

                      The Sun continued:

‘Amorim is satisfied neither Amad or Garnacho are involved directly in the leaking.’

But while Amorim quite rightly focuses on other things – like his team being terrible – the Daily Mail claim the players have refused to let the matter go, turning into ‘super-sleuths’ to find the mole, and they now apparently ‘know who is to blame’.

                      The report states:

‘The recent team leaks at Manchester United certainly caught the imagination of the players, who had their own ideas about who the mole was.

‘While head coach Ruben Amorim tried to play down the situation that had been brewing behind the scenes at Old Trafford, his players had turned into super-sleuths in an effort to identify the culprit.

‘Indeed, Mail Sport has been contacted by a number of representatives of players, following conversations with their clients, claiming to know who is to blame.’
