Lisandro Martinez endured another tough outing for Manchester United on his return to the starting line-up at Sunderland. United kept a clean sheet away from home, largely due to Senne Lammens‘ heroics. Martinez, meanwhile, looked rusty in possession and was bullied by Brian Brobbey all afternoon. Martinez’s lack of availability and composure when playing over the last 24 months should raise alarm bells at Old Trafford. Interestingly, a report in Italy suggests that INEOS are keen on bringing in another central defender this summer. Manchester United leading race for Strahinja Pavlovic According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Manchester United are keen on AC Milan’s Strahinja Pavlovic, who has emerged as one of Serie A’s most dominant centre-backs. Signed from RB Salzburg in 2024, the 2001-born defender has become an undisputed leader of Massimiliano Allegri’s defence in Milan. The 6’4″ Serbian behemoth has been compared to United legend Nemanja Vidic, owing to his imposing style of play. However, he is surprisingly calm with the ball at his feet. The left-footed defender has also scored five goals in Serie A. The publication claims Michael Carrick’s side are “on his trail” and are “above all” in the race. Chelsea are also thought to be in the race to sign Pavlovic, who is valued at €50 million (£43.2m). Both Premier League giants have allegedly made enquiries for the Serbian. Casemiro’s departure at the end of the season will leave Harry Maguire as the only physically imposing figure in both boxes for the Red Devils. In that regard, Pavlovic is certainly capable of adding more steel and structure to the side in Manchester. The Lisandro Martinez conundrum Maguire has been handed a new deal. However, recently, The Athletic’s Andy Mitten suggested Martinez’s position at United is “in a little bit of a state of flux.” Mitten believes the technically gifted Martinez “needs to be playing all of the time” to win a new contract at United. The 28-year-old will enter the final year of his deal this summer. “If someone comes in from in the summer then Manchester United have to weigh that up as well,” added Mitten. United now “leading the race” for English midfield maestro ahead of PL rivals, INEOS ready to strike – report

Manchester United are ramping up their pursuit of AFC Bournemouth midfield maestro Alex Scott, according to the latest report. Standout Star Scott, 22, has enjoyed a breakout season for the Cherries after a rocky start to life at the Vitality Stadium. Signed from Bristol City for £25 million in 2023, the Guernsey native suffered successive knee injuries which ruled him out for much of his debut campaign. This was followed by a stop-start sophomore year in 2024/25, during which he did not complete a full ninety minutes and again injured his knee. But his perseverance prevailed, as did Andoni Iraola’s faith in the 5’10 technician, with Scott emerging as one of the team’s standout stars this season. He has played in every single one of their Premier League matches, with Bournemouth on the verge of qualifying for European football for the first time. There is even an outside chance the south coast club may secure Champions League football if results elsewhere go their way. Their main rival for the top five – Aston Villa – could also do them a favour by winning the Europa League, which would make a top six finish sufficient to enter Europe’s elite competition. Scott’s all-round play at the heart of Iraola’s midfield has been instrumental to this, demonstrating both the technical and physical qualities to thrive in the cut and thrust of Premier League football. United leading the charge United have identified the England under-21 international as an option to revamp their midfield unit. Casemiro will leave at the end of the campaign and Manuel Ugarte looks set to join the Brazilian if a buyer can be found. The leading targets are Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali, while Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba also feature highly on the list. However, Scott represents a more affordable alternative who looks every bit as talented as his peers. Sports Boom reveals the Red Devils are “leading the race” for the playmaker, while Chelsea have also made “firm enquiries about a potential summer swoop.” In response to this interest, Bournemouth are understood to be planning a contract extension to lock down their prized asset’s future. His current deal expires in 2028, meaning this summer may represent the last chance to command top dollar for his services. Final Thoughts Scott has undoubtedly enjoyed a superb season, showcasing the type of profile United would love to add to their midfield. He ticks many of INEOS’s boxes in terms of age, price, wage demands and Premier League pedigree. However, he is a more attack-minded midfielder who would offer an alternative to Kobbie Mainoo, rather than a trusted partner for the 21-year-old English starlet. If a bidding war erupts for Scott due to the presence of a profligate rival like Chelsea, a deal may quickly make less sense until a successor to Casemiro is signed first. Nicky Butt raves about ‘brilliant’ ex-United manager who belongs in same league as Sir Alex Ferguson

Jose Mourinho is one of the biggest names in football, having achieved success at practically every club he has managed. His time in charge of Manchester United is regarded by some as a disappointment, however. Fans believed that the ‘Special One’ would be the man to return the Red Devils to the peak of world football but, after a successful first season at the helm, the Portuguese tactician became increasingly disillusioned and eventually lost his job. Former United player Nicky Butt, though, believes the man now in charge of Benfica deserves more respect and acknowledgement for what he achieved during his time at Old Trafford. Is Mourinho judged too harshly? Jose Mourinho’s time at United started with a bang. He was announced as the club’s new manager just days after Louis van Gaal lifted the FA Cup in a move that divided the fan base, with many believing the Dutchman deserved more time after delivering the club’s first trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. Still, despite the slightly harsh conditions of his arrival, the former Chelsea manager oversaw a very positive start to his United career. Under his guidance, the Red Devils signed a number of key players, including Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Though his first season in charge was undoubtedly his most successful, Mourinho enjoyed positive results throughout most of his United career. As a result of this, he boasts the fourth-best win rate of any Manchester United manager in the club’s history. Nicky Butt’s thoughts Speaking on his podcast The Good, The Bad & The Football, former player Butt said: “A lot of people didn’t like him at Man United; he got a lot of bad press, but I thought he was brilliant. They finished second, won the Europa League.” Butt isn’t wrong. United’s first season under the tutelage of Mourinho was, in terms of trophies at least, the club’s most successful since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, with Mourinho claiming the Community Shield, the EFL Cup and the Europa League. Comparison to legendary managers Expanding upon his point, Butt went on to say: “We got brought up with arguably the best manager of all time, but that’s not what just makes Sir Alex great, it’s not what makes Pep great, what I think makes them great is when they can walk into a room and they can command the attention of the players, the authority, have presence.” “Mourinho had that [at United], and he had Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], [Paul] Pogba, [Wayne] Rooney, a lot of big players.” An inspiring work-ethic Butt also touched upon his own experiences working with the charismatic manager during his time at Old Trafford. He said: “When I was there with him, he was a figure who you knew was in charge. He was on it, in his office with his pens, at 7.30am and he was on it. He was brilliant. “Carlo Ancelotti, Pep, Mourinho, Sir Alex, [Jurgen] Klopp, these are managers who are big characters who can carry a big club. There [are] a lot of egos in the big clubs, and you have to have that at those [kinds] of clubs. “He was in there at half seven in the morning and until 9 o’clock at night. I [have] seen it with my own eyes as I was at the academy. He works his socks off.” Perhaps it is Mourinho’s unstoppable work ethic and passion for the job that has seen him linked with a return to Spanish giants Real Madrid. United face fierce battle with PL rival for “standout” Senegalese star, £40m bid will seal the deal – report

Manchester United are closely tracking Lamine Camara, but face a fierce battle with their Premier League rivals to secure the AS Monaco powerhouse’s signature this summer, according to a new report. Long-term Admirer The Red Devils are prioritising a revamp in midfield as the club prepares for a return to the Champions League next season. Kobbie Mainoo is the sole representative with a long-term future at Old Trafford, as Casemiro‘s contract will expire in June and Manuel Ugarte is set to be sold. The plan is to sign two big-money midfielders, with a cheaper third arriving if a suitable buyer is found for the Uruguay international. The club’s focus on targets with Premier League pedigree – and the dreaded tax incurred by shopping in England – means cheaper alternatives on the continent are also under consideration. Atalanta dynamo Ederson is understood to be a leading target, while Real Madrid superstar Aurélien Tchouaméni is also an ambitious option should the Spanish giant sanction an exit. But Camara, Monaco’s 22-year-old defensive midfielder fresh from a superb season in Ligue 1, is another player in United’s crosshairs. TEAMtalk reveals the Red Devils are “admirers” of the Senegal international, who was outstanding at the Africa Cup of Nations. They have tracked him “closely over a prolonged period”. Eyed by England’s Elite United are not alone in their interest, however, as Camara is also a long-term target for rivals Arsenal and Liverpool, while a host of other clubs across the Premier League are keeping tabs. “TEAMtalk can also reveal that Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton, Brentford and West Ham have all watched the Monaco star extensively during the current campaign as his stock continues to rise across Europe.” But it is Newcastle who are said to be “showing the strongest intent” to strike a deal after storming into the race for the 5’8 midfielder. “Lamine Camara is emerging as one of Newcastle United’s leading midfield targets ahead of the summer transfer window, and…there is a growing belief that the quality Monaco star is destined to move to St James’ Park this summer.” A price tag in the region of £40 million has been set as Camara’s contract at the Stade Louis II runs until 2029, strengthening Monaco’s negotiating position. Final Thoughts Described as “one of African football’s standout midfield talents”, scouts are understood to be convinced that Camara “possesses all the attributes required to thrive in the Premier League.” Ligue 1 has been a happy hunting ground for English clubs, with the speed and intensity of football in France offering a strong pathway to the Premier League, particularly in comparison to countries like Italy or the Netherlands. If United are able to strike a deal for one of their primary targets, such as Elliot Anderson or Sandro Tonali, Camara would represent a high-upside option with the profile and price needed at Old Trafford. The fact that Newcastle are sniffing around the Senegalese star as Tonali’s future is uncertain tells its own story of how highly he is regarded by United’s rivals. United warrior gives “green light” to join European title winners, fans will be absolutely buzzing – report

Manuel Ugarte has given his green light to Galatasaray as the Turkish giant looks to strike a deal with Manchester United, according to a new report. Expensive Mistake INEOS are prepared to admit their mistake with Ugarte after yet another abject season in a red shirt. Signed from Paris Saint-Germain for £50.7 million in 2024, the 25-year-old enforcer was intended to be the long-term successor to Casemiro at the heart of United’s midfield. But a complete absence of technical quality has been horribly exposed by the physicality of Premier League football, with Ugarte unable to impose himself on matches. This leaves the Uruguay international as a liability on the ball and ineffective without it – a damning indictment on the hierarchy’s decision to invest such a sum to secure him, considering how desperate Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique was to be rid. While there is some competition from the misfiring Joshua Zirkzee, Ugarte is comfortably the worst signing of the INEOS era. The plan is to sign at least two new options, with a third arriving if Ugarte’s departure is sealed. There is interest from Italy in the Montevideo native, while a number of clubs in England are also understood to be keeping tabs. But it is Galatasaray who are leading the charge after making contact in January to assess the viability of a deal. Turkish outlet Fanatik reveals the Süper Lig champions, who retained their title for the fourth successive year on the weekend, have “renewed negotiations” to sign Ugarte. The Lions have “begun exploring the possibility of an agreement” after the player “gave the green light” to a switch to Istanbul. “Galatasaray officials have encountered no problems in their discussions with the 25-year-old player and are now waiting for United to determine the transfer fee. If the demand is too high, a loan deal will also be considered,” the report states. Well-placed sources at the RAMS Stadium indicate a move for Ugarte “seems to be the closest to completion” out of the various targets Galatasaray want to sign. Final Thoughts United need to sell Ugarte for a minimum fee of £25 million to avoid incurring a negative PSR hit. And while Galatasaray have cash to burn, it remains to be seen whether they are willing to stump up this amount for a player so desperately out of form with no long-term future at Old Trafford. A more likely scenario may be a loan with an obligation clause, such as the one agreed with Napoli for Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund last year that is set to pay dividends this summer. This would allow United to avoid a loss, while helping Galatasaray spread their funds more evenly. Either way, fans will be celebrating the exit of one of the club’s worst signings in recent memory, especially if it helps funds an upgrade to arrive in his place – such as Brazilian dynamo Ederson from Atalanta. Which Man United players are worth backing at the 2026 World Cup and the betting options to know
This summer’s 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted across Canada, Mexico and the USA – and for Manchester United fans it will represent one of the few occasions they get to see a number of the club’s stars pull on the national team jersey. But for those who follow the Red Devils throughout the season, there could also be some impressive betting value on offer.United players with genuine international weightWith several United players pushing for prominent international roles in 2026, the world cup betting options around them are drawing serious attention from fans who follow club form closely when assessing tournament value. While other players in the United ranks may be heading to the World Cup, for Portugal that will include midfielder Bruno Fernandes, who has been in phenomenal form for the Red Devils this season and will hopefully be able to continue that run on the big stage. Denmark will also have a 22-year-old up front in the shape of Rasmus Hojlund, who has been a shining light for United this term and his performances at club level should dictate much of his international price. With a place in Thomas Tuchel’s senior squad potentially under threat, Marcus Rashford could do his chances of a World Cup place a world of good by getting back on the scoring sheet at club. The Red Devils ace may have a battle on his hands for a centre-midfield berth, but it’s more of a fight for a place on the bench for 17-year-old Kobbie Mainoo after he impressed so much to earn a call-up from the England Under-21 squad.Reading form through Premier League statsInformation derived from the Premier League season can be highly informative for bettors who incorporate player performance into their pricing models. A midfielder who averages a goal or assist every 60 minutes for a club that plays 30 Premier League fixtures is clearly a more dangerous forward option than an opponent who spent spring collecting dust on the bench due to injury. As the final squads are locked in close to the end of the season, recent player form over the second half of the 2024/25 year may take greater precedence when building tournament lineups. United players are among those in the running for spots.Betting markets and tournament structureThe expanded 48 team format for Canada Mexico USA 2026 may create a lot more matches per player, with markets for top scorer, most assists and player of the tournament often proving to have considerable appeal, with many of these contingent markets featuring several of the United player squad. There’s also merit in examining the different World Cup qualification routes to estimate team’s overall depth, as those clubs that strolled through to make the play-off round may be perfectly match-fit for the opening round of group matches. There’s a risk that those bigger stars won’t have played as much as one might hope, and thus have been less regularly employed in the group stages leading in.Assessing the value before the tournament beginsThe next couple of years will be pivotal in determining whether or not Manchester United players develop into genuine tournament contenders or arrivals brought in to bolster a depth-charged squad. This analysis will keep an eye on United’s form in the Premier League, any call-ups for the Three Lions and how FIFA’s world rankings for all confederations fluctuate. This will allow for a better reading on where exactly certain players will be rated come the summer of 2026 and in turn, how they will be priced in pre-tournament odds for major international showpieces.

Insider hints Man Utd ‘closer’ than Bayern Munich in the race for the most exciting talent in Germany

Manchester United apparently have the upper hand over Bayern Munich in the battle for German teenager Kennet Eichhorn. The midfielder is only 16, but he has already been making waves in Germany. So, at the moment, Bayern are still fighting for this big talent, but they’re not in the driver’s seat.”Why Man Utd might struggle to recruit EichhornAt the tender age of 16, Eichhorn’s family and entourage might be leaning towards keeping him in Germany rather than risking a culture shock by moving him abroad. Hence, BVB and Leipzig might be better positioned than Man Utd and Man City to land the teenager. Moreover, with the midfielder already familiarising himself with senior football, he would likely want to join a club that guarantees him a place in the first team.On the other hand, Man Utd might deem him too young and green for the senior level, so the two parties might not necessarily share the same vision. While United’s Head of Recruitment, Christopher Vivell, will be expected to fight until the very end to try to bring his young compatriot to Carrington, he might be facing an uphill battle.
