Official: Dan Gore seals loan move to League One club Rotherham United

Manchester United midfielder Dan Gore has sealed a loan move to League One outfit Rotherham United for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

Rotherham announced Gore’s signing on their social media.

The club also issued a statement pointing out, “Rotherham United are delighted to confirm the loan capture of Manchester United youngster Dan Gore for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign, subject to ratification from the EFL, Premier League and FA.”

“Dan will wear the number 18 shirt during his loan spell at AESSEAL New York Stadium.”

United also confirmed the move, adding, “Best of luck with the rest of the campaign, Dan!”

Gore becomes the sixth Carrington academy graduate to secure a loan transfer this month after Ethan Ennis, Joe Hugill, Jack Kingdon, Ethan Wheatley and Ethan Williams.

Gore’s temporary switch to Rotherham represents his second senior loan spell. He moved to Port Vale last term but his time there was cut short after suffering an injury following his debut.

He has continued his rehabilitation with United’s Under21s, as he seeks to fully get back up to speed and force his way into Ruben Amorim’s plans.

The 20-year-old has signed for Rotherham just in time to be named in the squad for their trip to League One leaders Birmingham City.

Gore becomes the Millers’ second arrival of the winter transfer window after Louie Sibley, who joined last week.

Gore joined United’s academy in 2018 from Burnley and was part of the 2022 FA Youth Cup-winning side, playing all 90 minutes of the final victory against Nottingham Forest.

He made his senior debut for the Red Devils in September 2023 when he came on as a substitute in a Carabao Cup meeting with Crystal Palace.

A Premier League bow followed soon after, as he featured in the 3-2 win over Aston Villa on Boxing Day 2023.

United star could join Benfica before deadline day as clubs open talks – report

Manchester United and Benfica are in talks over a deal for out-of-form left-back Tyrell Malacia, as per reports.

Ruben Amorim handed Malacia a rare start in United’s 2-0 win over FCSB in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Dutchman didn’t do much to impress in the first half and even received a yellow card. He was taken off during the break, with Alejandro Garnacho coming on as his replacement for the second half.

Due to fitness issues and lack of attacking prowess for Amorim’s wing-back role, the Dutchman, who was Erik ten Hag’s first signing, has become a peripheral figure at Old Trafford. Accordingly, United have made him available for a move before the winter window slams shut on February 3.

As per the Portuguese newspaper Record (via Sport Witness), Benfica have made the 25-year-old their primary target to reinforce their left-flank.

They are “currently negotiating” with the Mancunian giants and aim to sign the ex-Feyenoord talent on loan for the remainder of the season. The Eagles are in the market for a new left-back with Niklas Beste set to join Freiburg.

Interestingly, Malacia could find himself challenging former United full-back Alvaro Carreras for the starting spot at Benfica.

The Spaniard has established himself as one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe and is considered the first-choice option under Bruno Lage.

However, that could quickly change should United decide to make a move for Carreras. Multiple reports have suggested that the Red Devils are interested in their academy product and have a buy-back clause, believed to be worth €20million, in their favour.

For now, though, United are focused on finalising the arrival of wing-back Patrick Dorgu, who is set to undergo medical tests over the weekend.

Should Malacia fail to secure an exit, his struggle for gametime is likely to intensify following Dorgu’s arrival, as the Dane is highly rated by Amorim.

Apart from Benfica, Celtic and Real Betis have also shown interest in signing the Netherlands international.

“We will discuss…”: Bayern chief gives lightning bolt to United’s pursuit of Mathys Tel – Sky Sports DE

Bayern Munich chief Max Eberl has stated the German club will “discuss” whether Mathys Tel will be allowed to leave on a “loan or a sale” before the January transfer window closes next week.

Tel, 19, has put Europe’s elite on red-alert after signalling his intention to leave Bayern this month, citing frustrations with game time under Die Roten manager Vincent Kompany.

Manchester United, who hold a long-standing admiration for the French starlet, are joined by Premier League rivals Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur in making “enquiries” with their Bavarian counterparts of a potential move for Tel.

There is also believed to be widespread interest in the 19-year-old forward across Europe’s other major leagues, including France and Italy.

This led the Bayern Sporting Director to contend there was an almost unprecedent level of interest in Tel. “There’s no bad blood. I can understand him. I’ve rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before,” Eberl reveals.

But it was Spurs who had appeared to jump the rapidly growing queue for Tel by reaching a “€60 million agreement” with Bayern for a permanent transfer.

However, as relayed The Peoples Person, Tel is reported to be “waiting” for an approach by United with a switch to Old Trafford his preference.

The Red Devils are considering a loan proposal with a buy clause, as the club’s finances would not allow a transfer this month. But this economic situation would change by the summer, with United able to spend far more in the next window.

As such, given Old Trafford officials are keen on Tel on loan, and Tel appears to be equally keen on Old Trafford, the question boils down to whether Bayern would be open to such a deal.

And Eberl’s latest comments suggest an answer will be provided “in the coming days and hours.”

🚨🔴💬 Max Eberl on FC Bayern’s verbal agreement with Tottenham for €60m regarding Mathys #Tel:

“It’s also about generating transfer revenue.”

Tweet: “Max Eberl on FC Bayern’s verbal agreement with Tottenham for €60m regarding Mathys #Tel: ‘It’s also about generating transfer revenue. Mathys is an incredibly sought-after player. Whether it will be a loan or a sale, we will discuss it in the coming days and hours.’

“‘Will we make any more moves? Regardless of the money, our squad is very well set up.’”

The Bavarian chief describes Tel as an “incredibly sought-after player” with the club focusing on an exit which is “about generating transfer revenue.”

“Whether it will be a loan or a sale, we will discuss it in the coming days and hours,” the 51-year-old executive concluded.

United officials will be praying their German counterparts are willing to let Tel leave on a loan with the Reds potentially able to offer a purchase clause which surpasses Spurs’ bid come the summer.

Man Utd ‘forms cock-up’ blamed for ‘bizarre’ medical delay by desperate media

Manchester United medical cock-up news here as Patrick Dorgu will be left with only about 48 hours to complete a medical. Tick-tock.

          LIVE blog bingo
When you are a Sport Central Audience Writer (every young aspiring journalist’s dream) tasked with a LIVE transfer blog, you must have a checklist:

          Transfer ✔

          Agreement ✔

          Medical ✔

          Amid ✔

So congratulations to the Manchester Evening News SCAW Jack Flintham for this doozy:

‘Man United transfer news LIVE – Mathys Tel ‘agreement’ as medical planned amid Garnacho twist’

Does it matter that the Mathys Tel ‘agreement’ is with Spurs rather than Manchester United? Does it balls.

Does it matter that the ‘medical planned’ is not connected to Tel (whose ‘agreement’ is not with Manchester United, remember) but with Patrick Dorgu? Hell no.

It’s a job magnificently well done. Or it would be if they had remembered to add the words ‘Marcus’ and ‘Rashford’.

Over at the Express, they got the e-mail about the power of a promised medical…

‘Transfer news LIVE: Man Utd medical today, £13m Chelsea deal, Watkins to Arsenal’

Just a shame then that the first mention of a ‘medical’ is this in a section about Dorgu: ‘The player is yet to complete a medical, which has been rescheduled for the weekend.’

Sure they just forgot to change the headline…

          How bizarre? Not at all…
Talking of that rescheduled medical for Patrick Dorgu, the only details we have are these…

🚨 Patrick Dorgu’s medical at Manchester United to be re-scheduled as could now take place over the weekend.

No issues or problems as deal has been agreed but just due to documents/contracts Dorgu’s expected to fly to England over the weekend. pic.twitter.com/UsUKfwBq83

          — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) January 30, 2025

So what the actual f*** is going through the minds of somebody at MailOnline to come up with this:

‘Man United suddenly RESCHEDULE Patrick Dorgu medical for bizarre reason – with just days left to secure Ruben Amorim’s new £33m-rated man’

The ‘bizarre reason’ is that the documents and contracts are not yet ready. That’s not ‘bizarre’, it’s paperwork.

Sometimes things are just not very interesting. And whisper it, but sometimes there’s no need for CAPITALS.

But there are no clicks in paperwork, so we have to pretend there is now some heightened sense of danger…

‘Now a sense of jeopardy has been injected into the day due to the medical delay and the 20-year-old is only expected to fly to England over the weekend.

‘It was pushed back because the relevant documentation and contracts were not completed on time for the original test.

‘The transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Monday, February 3, meaning United cannot afford for there to be too many hold-ups.’

Never mind that clubs regularly manage to complete transfers despite not making bids until six or seven hours before the deadline, we are supposed to believe that ‘a sense of jeopardy has been injected’ by United giving themselves a little over 48 hours to complete a medical. Oooh, will they pull it off? It’s going to be close…

Tribal Football go even further, claiming: ‘Man Utd medical delayed for Dorgu due to forms cock-up.’

Their source? The Mail of course.

          Draw specialists
The Champions League play-off draw was exactly that: A draw for the Champions League play-offs.

And yet, we all have to pretend that we have somehow learned so much more about Arsenal and Liverpool’s opponents too.

‘Man City handed nightmare Real Madrid clash as Arsenal edge towards last 16 tie with former Champions League winners,’ say The Sun, despite Arsenal being in exactly the same position as they were before the draw, with Juventus, PSV, Feyenoord and AC Milan still the possible opposition. They haven’t ‘edged’ anywhere.

The Mirror tell us ‘Liverpool, Villa and Liverpool’s path to the final becomes clearer’. Nope. Still any one of those four clubs detailed here.

They say that ‘former Liverpool star Stephen Warnock fears for Arsenal after they discovered their potential quarter-final opponents’. Except they absolutely didn’t. This is just getting weird now.

Mind you, even the Telegraph opt for a headline (on Google anyway, they’re not daft) of ‘Champions League draw live: Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Villa, Celtic learn their fate’.

We know nobody clicks on Manchester City stories, but this is the Champions League draw FFS.

United have already wrapped up a deal to sign Sporting’s Geovany Quenda, fans are buzzing – report

Sporting Lisbon right-wing-back Geovany Quenda is reportedly set to join Manchester United in the summer in a guaranteed deal worth €60 million.

United’s interest in Quenda can be traced months before Ruben Amorim’s appointment as Erik ten Hag’s replacement but since the Portuguese coach’s arrival, these links have only grown stronger.

It’s believed that Amorim wants to bolster his wing-back options and now that the signing of Patrick Dorgu {left-wing-back) from Lecce is imminent, all attention now shifts to the other flank, where Quenda is seen as a perfect fit.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person indicated that United were prepared to fork out €60m to reunite Amorim with Quenda at Old Trafford.

In November last year, it was claimed that the Red Devils had established contact with Quenda’s new agent – Jorge Mendes – to explore the possibility of getting a deal over the line.

Now, Portuguese news outlet A Bola reveal that United have agreed a deal to sign Quenda ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to the newspaper, “Manchester United have already snapped up Geovany Quenda. Not in this winter transfer window, but for the summer, a transfer that, according to A BOLA, is assured, with the 17-year-old winger joining the Red Devils from 2025/2026.”

“Sporting are preparing for a fee that could be in the region of 60 million euros.”

“The English giant’s desire even predates the arrival of Ruben Amorim to coach the Premier League team in November, but the former Sporting coach, who launched Quenda into the green and whites’ first team, not only kept the red devils’ interest in the player alive but also sharpened it even more.”

“Not to the point of an attempt being made this January (although that possibility has been considered, even going against the promise made by the coach not to sign Alvalade this winter) but rather to grab him now so he can count on him from next season onwards.”

Quenda has made 34 appearances across all competitions this term, contributing two goals and six assists.

The 17-year-old progressed through Benfica’s youth academy before moving to Sporting in 2021. Amorim promoted him to first-team training before handing him his senior competitive debut in August. In doing so, Quenda became the club’s youngest-ever scorer after netting on debut.

Man Utd attempt to ‘hijack’ Tottenham transfer with Tel ‘wanting’ Red Devils move

Man Utd attempt to ‘hijack’ Tottenham transfer with Tel ‘wanting’ Red Devils move

Man Utd are looking to hijack a deal for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel as Tottenham and other clubs eye his transfer, according to reports.

The Red Devils are having a terrible season in the Premier League with their narrow 1-0 win over Fulham moving them up to 12th in the table over the weekend.

Fingers have been pointed at their forward line a lot this season with only five Premier League sides scoring fewer goals than them this term.

Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have all come in for their fair share of criticism and Man Utd are now in the market for an attacker before the transfer window shuts.

Man Utd, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa have all explored a potential move for Tel this month with Bayern Munich star available.

Tottenham are believed to be the club leading the race to sign the France Under-21 international with reports in France that Spurs have agreed a deal worth around £50m for Tel’s permanent transfer.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed last night that Man Utd “held new talks” over a potential move for Tel before the deadline.

Plettenberg wrote on X: “Manchester United remain active in the race for Mathys Tel and have held new talks with his agent today.

“The Red Devils are reportedly considering a loan move. Bayern already have a verbal agreement with Tottenham over a permanent deal worth €60m.”

While Fabrizio Romano gave his own update on his YouTube channel: “All the top clubs in England have decided to call Mathys Tel. Today, Tottenham had direct contact with Daniel Levy working on this deal. Spurs are ready to play €6m to Tottenham and Bayern are ready to let him go. Now it all depends on Tel. Tottenham are ready with an agreement with Bayern but Aston Villa are also trying and have the money in their pocket after selling Jhon Duran.

“Also, Man Utd are interested on a loan and still pushing on the player’s side. And then there’s Arsenal and Chelsea. Chelsea have been pushing from the beginning but they have many offensive players and Tel really wants to play, so it’ll take a big convincing action to get the green light.”

And now Sky Germany (via Football Transfers) claim that Man Utd ‘remain locked in talks with Bayern Munich in the hopes of hijacking’ Tel’s potential move to Tottenham.

              The report adds:

‘The 19-year-old would ultimately prefer a loan departure as he still harbours hopes of making it at Bayern in the future as the club showed a lot of faith in him, signing him for €20m after he had only just broken through at Stade Rennais.

‘The fact that Tel is reluctant to leave permanently has emboldened Man Utd to continue their contact with Bayern as their intention from the start has been to only sign the teenager on an initial loan.

‘According to the above-mentioned outlet, Man Utd initiated fresh talks, including with Tel’s agent, on Thursday even after news had broken of the agreement with Tottenham.’

And journalist Paul O’Keefe has revealed that Tel has his eyes on a move to Man Utd over any other club, he wrote on Thursday: “The boy wants Man Utd. Let’s see how Bayern play that.”

New stats shine a light on just how unlucky United have been in the PL this season – report

Ruben Amorim has suffered a turbulent start to his career as Manchester United’s head coach with his 3-4-3 system proving difficult for his new crop of players to adapt to.

Formations, quality of player and commitment to the cause are all key to Amorim’s new regime but there is also another element in play that’s impacting United’s form.

As reported by The Sun, analysists have put together a league table of luck to see who has benefitted from the most good fortune this season.

The table is made up by VAR decisions for and against, late goals for and against, errors leading to goals and number of injuries accrued since the start of the campaign. The figures generate an overall score out of 100 and the league table certainly makes for interesting reading.

United sit 11th in the league with a cumulative score of 39 with Newcastle ranked as the luckiest team on 72 points and Southampton bottom on 26 for context.

Amorim’s side have benefitted from just two VAR decisions this season with four going against them. United have bagged nine goals in the later stages of games, putting them in the top three for that metric whilst shipping just three times in the final minutes.

An alarming nine errors have led to the concession of goals, a stat Amorim will want to change along with the seven injuries that include some key players that may have eased the bedding in process for the Portuguese coach.

Crystal Palace and Arsenal join Newcastle in the top three of the luckiest teams with Liverpool in fourth. Ipswich Town and Everton prop up the table alongside Southampton in what would be the relegation places.

Interestingly, Manchester City are the only team in the league to not have had a VAR decision go against them this season.

Amorim will be hoping for lady luck to be on his side for the second half of the campaign in which there is still plenty to fight for, for United.

Despite their lowly league position, qualification for the last 16 of the Europa League was secured in style last night and Leicester City travel to Old Trafford in the 4th round of the FA Cup next week.

United will also be vying for a top half finish in the Premier League as they look to build confidence to take into Amorim’s first full season in charge.

Manchester United have officially “contacted” Bayern Munich over a loan move for Mathys Tel, Sky Sports Germany reveals.

Florian Plettenberg (Sky Sports DE) states the Red Devils have approached Bayern to sign the 19-year-old forward before the February 3 deadline, but are “interested in a loan deal” rather than a transfer.

                  — Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) January 31, 2025

Tweet: “Understand that Manchester United have contacted FC Bayern regarding Mathys #Tel!

#MUFC are interested in a loan deal and hope to buy some time regarding Tel since departures are needed (Garnacho/Rashford).

ManUtd are definitely in the race, as exclusively revealed on Tuesday. ManUtd and Bayern feeling that Tel is currently leaning towards a loan move, which is why he hasn’t committed to Tottenham yet. #COYS pushing for a decision as Tel is their desired target.

Max Eberl: ‘Whether it will be a loan or a sale, we will discuss it in the coming days and hours.’”

The financial situation at Old Trafford is limited this month due to the Premier League’s profits and sustainability rules (PSR). This leaves United with little wiggle room to sign players, particularly after a deal was agreed earlier this week for 20-year-old wing-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.

However, Tel is a unique proposition – a player deemed a “perfect market opportunity” amongst the executive branch at Old Trafford.

The French starlet is one of the premier attacking talents in Europe, having joined Bayern from Rennes for £25 million as a 17-year-old – a reflection of his immense potential. He is also a versatile forward, capable of playing on either wing or up front.

United hold a long-standing interest in Tel with the Reds believed to have made an initial enquiry last year to sign the forward. This was rebuffed, however.

But Tel’s growing frustration with a lack of first-team opportunities under Bayern manager Vincent Kompany has led the 19-year-old to push for an exit from the Allianz Arena in the final week of the winter window.

Plettenberg states the German club feel Tel is “currently leaning towards a loan move”, explaining why he “hasn’t committed to Tottenham yet”. The London club reached a £50 million agreement with Bayern yesterday over a permanent transfer, but Tel has yet to accept the proposal.

United’s finances could likely stretch to a loan, but not a permanent transfer. This could then include a buy clause which the club would be in a far stronger position come the summer to fulfil.

A report relayed by The Peoples Person revealed the French starlet is “waiting” for an approach from United and prefers a switch to Old Trafford over other options. And now, as Plettenberg reveals, the proposal from Manchester has arrived in Munich.

If Tel signals his intention to accept the offer, it would constitute a significant coup for INEOS in their second transfer window at the helm at the Theatre of Dreams – without even having to pay a transfer fee.

United plan to strike with “perfect market opportunity” to land lethal marksman in last-minute swoop – report

Manchester United believe the unexpected unavailability of Mathys Tel represents the “perfect market opportunity” as the club weighs up an approach for the Bayern Munich forward.

Tel, 19, has put a host of clubs across on Europe after the shocking twist he was pushing to leave the German giant before the end of the January transfer window.

Frustrations over first-team opportunities under Bayern manager Vincent Kompany have boiled over for the forward, who has instructed his representatives to seal a move away from the Allianz Arena.

The upper echelon of Europe’s elite, including the English foursome of Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and United, have contacted Bayern in recent days over a move for Tel.

Spurs have emerged as the frontrunner for the versatile forward with Ange Postecoglou’s team reaching a “€60 million agreement” with the Bundesliga club, who they are believed to have excellent relations with after the deal which saw Harry Kane go in the opposite direction in 2023.

However, a report relayed by The Peoples Person suggest Tel is “waiting” for an approach by the Red Devils before making a final decision, as the 19-year-old’s preference is a switch to Old Trafford.

These feelings are mirrored by the executive branch at the club who reportedly consider the French starlet the “perfect” signing, according to UtdDistrict

The report states: “Sources have told UtdDistrict that United see Tel as the perfect market opportunity. Recruitment staff within the club have long kept tabs on the teenager. United would like to bring Tel on loan, with an option to buy the player in the summer transfer window.”

“It is also understood that United plan to formalise their interest in the Bayern Munich forward before the transfer deadline, even without the sale of another attacker.”

There had been a sense United would have to sanction a departure before a new forward could be brought in.

Alejandro Garnacho continues to be a target for Serie A leaders Napoli and domestic rival Chelsea, while a loan move for Marcus Rashford would be the best antidote to the 27-year-old Englishman’s continued dispute with United head coach Ruben Amorim.

Brazilian winger Antony has already left the club in his own loan deal, joining Liga side Real Betis until the end of the season. And the persistent struggles of strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee show no signs of easing.

Tel – a versatile forward capable of playing up top or on the wing – would offer a new dynamic to an attacking unit desperately short on quality. He is considered one of the premier prospects in European football with Bayern having sanctioned a £25 million move for the Frenchman when he was just 17.

The Reds hold a long-term interest in Tel, as do most clubs across Europe, but the 19-year-old starlet appears to only be prioritising one team at present. United must strike now to seal an unexpectedly “perfect market opportunity” before the January transfer window draws to a close on Monday.

Casemiro’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain with a departure in the January window still a “realistic scenario”, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports Germany reporter reveals there are “concrete talks” ongoing with a number of different clubs for the Brazilian midfielder.

As relayed by The Peoples Person, Serie A side Roma have expressed interest in signing Casemiro with manager Claudio Ranieri keen to add the 32-year-old’s experience and steel to the heart of I Giallorossi’s midfield.

The Italian league, played at a slower pace with much more emphasis on tactical control and defensive solidity, would represent a chance for Casemiro to recapture the form he has lost at Old Trafford in the last eighteen months.

The former Real Madrid man enjoyed a super debut campaign in Manchester following his £60 million move from Los Blancos in 2022. However, Father Time moved quickly to claim another victim as it was clear Madrid knew Casemiro’s legs were on their final…legs.

Last season, the Brazilian’s physical decline was brutally exposed as United’s midfield was repeatedly cut open at will by the opposition. And while Erik ten Hag’s suicidal brand of ‘football’ was the primary cause of this fragility, Casemiro’s inability to cope with the rigours of English football also played a part.

Ruben Amorim, who replaced Ten Hag in November, quickly identified this issue with the 32-year-old midfielder and has used Casemiro sparingly. In fact, since a 2-0 demolition by Newcastle in the Premier League on December 30, which saw the Magpies’ midfield run riot at Old Trafford, Casemiro has not started a game under Amorim.

United are keen for an exit in the January window but the Brazilian’s colossal wages – believed to be as high as £350,000 a week – make any deal difficult for potential suitors.

The Saudi Pro League remain a viable option, though clubs appear to be concentrating on younger targets in England before the February 3 deadline next month.

A report relayed by The Peoples Person revealed Casemiro’s preference was the Middle East as it would be the only option which would see his wage packet at Old Trafford increased, rather than decreased. As such, the report suggested the Brazilian had “turned down” Roma’s advances for him.

However, Plettenberg contends “AS Roma are still exploring a deal” to sign Casemiro, indicating a move to the Italian capital remains a possibility.

🚨🟡🔴 Casemiro’s departure remains a realistic scenario until Deadline Day.

Tweet: “Casemiro’s departure remains a realistic scenario until Deadline Day. Various markets are being explored, and concrete talks with interested clubs are ongoing. AS Roma are still exploring a deal to sign Casemiro.”

The Sky Sports reporter also reveals there are “various markets being explored”. The Saudi Pro League is likely to be one of these leagues, while there remains the potential of a switch to Turkey.

Regardless of the potential destination, shifting Casemiro’s wages would constitute a huge boost for United’s finances; particularly given Amorim’s clear preference for the 21-year-old Toby Collyer, who offers the physicality and stamina Casemiro has lost in the last two years.
