Man Utd transfer: Romano confirms ‘here we go’ on Marcus Rashford deal to Aston Villa

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford will join Aston Villa on loan before the transfer deadline.

Amorim left out Rashford from his squad to face Man City in a 2-1 Manchester Derby win in December and the England international has only made one squad since.

Man Utd boss Amorim has always called it a “selection” decision when referring to Rashford’s omission but he changed tack after their 1-0 win over Fulham.

Amorim said he would rather play Man Utd goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital over Rashford as he hinted that the 27-year-old wasn’t giving his all in training.

Rashford has been linked with a number of clubs this month after admitting in an interview that he is ready for a “new challenge” away from Old Trafford.

Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, West Ham and other clubs have been mooted but clubs had found it tricky to cover all or part of his huge wages at Man Utd.

But on Friday, Relevo journalist Matteo Moretto now claims that a move to Barcelona is getting more unlikely by the day with Premier League side Aston Villa now entering the race to sign Rashford.

And a deal to Aston Villa has rapidly accelerated over the last 48 hours with transfer expert Romano now getting to the stage of giving his ‘here we go’ for the loan deal.

Romano wrote on X‘Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, here we go! Agreement in place on loan deal with over 70% salary covered by Villa. Buy option clause worth £40m also included in contract with potential three year and half deal to follow. Medical booked today.’

Former Man Utd defender Paul Parker reckons it has become clear that Rashford didn’t want to be a part of the success Amorim is trying to build at Old Trafford.

Parker said: “I think everybody has to relate to what Amorim’s getting back from Marcus Rashford. He would have known about everything that’s been going on prior to him becoming manager and he just doesn’t want him to be a part of it because he’s putting the team first and the team doesn’t need Marcus Rashford in his state of mind.”

When asked if Amorim is playing a dangerous game by calling out Rashford, Parker added: “No, I personally don’t think so because at the end of the day, he has to think about the rest of his team.

“If you’re a player in that squad and you’re thinking about what Amorim’s doing to a player that’s not pulling their weight, then that lets them know where they stand. I think his approach is something that’s needed at this moment in time.”

Revealed: How much Aston Villa could pay Man Utd for Marcus Rashford loan deal

Aston Villa could pay as much as ’90 per cent’ of Marcus Rashford’s huge wages during his loan spell at Villa Park, according to reports.

The Red Devils are set to allow Rashford to leave for Aston Villa in a loan deal until the end of the season with an option to buy for £40m.

Rashford has been left out of all but one of Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd squads since the Manchester derby with the 27-year-old forward admitting that he’s ready for a “new challenge”.

The England international has been criticised by Amorim for his performances in training with the Man Utd boss claiming he’d sooner start goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital over Rashford in recent weeks.

It was revealed earlier on Sunday that Rashford is undergoing his medical at Aston Villa today and now details are being revealed of the contract details.

Rashford, who currently earns around £325k a week at Man Utd, was a hard sell to some clubs because of his high salary but it has now been revealed that Aston Villa will pay at least 75 per cent of his wages, while that amount could even rise to 90 per cent.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth explains: “The deal is a loan until the end of the season with an option to buy.

“It’s understood Villa will cover at least 75 per cent of Rashford’s wages and this could go up to 90 per cent depending on Rashford’s and Villa’s performance.

“United had similar structures for Jadon Sancho’s loan to Borussia Dortmund last season and Antony’s loan to Real Betis in this window.”

The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell also confirmed these details and claimed the Rashford deal was ‘personally requested by Unai Emery’.

      Whitwell wrote:

‘Aston Villa will pay a large portion of Marcus Rashford’s salary to facilitate his loan move from Manchester United.

‘The Athletic reported on Saturday that the two clubs were close to agreeing a deal for the 27-year-old forward to join the Midlands club for the remainder of the season.

‘Sources at both clubs, speaking on the condition of anonymity, say Villa will contribute a minimum of three-quarters of Rashford’s wages for the duration of his stay at Villa Park and up to 90 per cent depending on performance-based bonuses.

‘Rashford’s current contract at Old Trafford — which runs until 2028 — puts him among the club’s top earners at more than £325,000 per week.

‘Villa will hold an option to make the move permanent in the summer for a fee of £40million.

‘Rashford is now expected to undergo a medical on Sunday before completing the formalities of a move.

‘The pursuit has been personally requested by Unai Emery with the Villa manager a huge admirer and of the belief he can help him recapture his best form.’

Confirmed United XI vs Crystal Palace: Onana, Ugarte return, De Ligt rested, neither Hojlund nor Zirkzee start

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has shuffled the pack again today as he names his side to face Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Andre Onana returns in goal, with Altay Bayindir returning to the bench despite a clean sheet against FCSB on Thursday.

Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro also return to the starting XI and plays alongside Lisandro Martinez in the back three.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are the wingbacks.

Manuel Ugarte also returns to the starting line-up in central midfield. He plays alongside Bruno Fernandes.

        Toby Collyer makes way.

Up front, Amad returns alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.

This means neither recognised striker, Rasmus Hojlund nor Josh Zirkzee, make the starting XI. Either Garnacho or Amad will play as the striker or perhaps one will be a false nine.

On the subs bench are Altay Bayindir, De Ligt, Victor Lindelof, Toby Collyer, Christian Eriksen, Hojlund and Zirkzee.

Harrison’s place on the bench is a great achievement and a reward for his superb loan stint at Chester City.

Marcus Rashford is set to leave for Aston Villa while Tyrell Malacia is also likely to head out on loan before the window closes.

Mason Mount and Jonny Evans are still injured.

Kick off at Old Trafford is at 2pm.

Announcement: United fans set to catch a glimpse of the first two signings of the Ruben Amorim era today

Manchester United are all set to return to Premier League action when they take on Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Apart from the football on display, fans will also get to catch a glimpse of the first two signings of the Ruben Amorim era, Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu, before the game.

The club will announce both the signings on the pitch before kick-off, akin to the way they had announced deals for Raphael Varane and Rasmus Hojlund in the recent past.

The 18-year-old centre-back became the first signing of the January window with the Red Devils capturing him from Arsenal despite the Gunners’ best attempts at holding on to their prized talent.

Both new signings to be presented in front of a packed Old Trafford

The England U19 international will sport the No 26 shirt, previously adorned by Dean Henderson last season before his eventual transfer to the Eagles.

Despite his young age, Heaven is set to slot straight into the United first-team squad, a major reason why he chose the Red Devils.

He will be eager to catch the head coach’s eye so that he can make his debut for his new club as soon as possible.

Heaven can play as a left centre-back and left-back and United are in need of left-footed defenders and he fits the bill perfectly.

Dorgu had completed his medical on Saturday and signed a five-year contract with the club officially announcing the move on Sunday.

          Jersey numbers also revealed

After a long negotiation process, Amorim finally got the wingback of his choice with United beating off competition from Napoli to land the Dane.

The Denmark international will sport the No 13 jersey, previously worn by Lee Grant and has been unused now for over two years.

The Palace game will come too soon for both but it is likely that fans will get to see Dorgu live in action when the 20-time English league champions take on Leicester City in the FA Cup next week.

United are languishing in 12th place in the league standings and hopefully, these two new signings can galvanise the group as Amorim seeks to take them up the table in the second-half of the campaign.

Official: Man United confirm the signing of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Patrick Dorgu from Serie A outfit Lecce.

Heading into the winter transfer window, United were on the hunt for a left-wing-back in a bid to provide Ruben Amorim with the tools necessary to improve results and oversee a strong finish to the season.

Dorgu emerged as United’s top target and the club wasted no time in initiating talks with Lecce.

An agreement was struck and the player had his medical at Carrington on Saturday, where he also signed his contract to officially become the latest addition to the ranks at Old Trafford.

Now, United have issued a statement, confirming that Dorgu put pen to paper on a deal running until June 2030, with the option of an additional year.

Dorgu said, “I am incredibly proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player; this is a very special day for my whole family.”

“I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim; his vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting.”

“There is a clear plan set out for my development, and I feel that Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and complete my huge ambitions.”

United’s technical director Jason Wilcox remarked, “Patrick is a really exciting talent; his strong defensive and attacking attributes, adaptability and work-rate will make him a key part of Ruben Amorim’s squad.”

“Patrick has had a superb start to his career, and at the age of just 20, we know he will continue to develop under the guidance of our excellent coaching team.”

“Patrick is the latest exciting young player that we have brought into the club. We believe that each of these talents has world-class potential and the ability to play a key role in achieving the success that everyone at Manchester United is striving for.”

Patrick Dorgu has hailed it as a “very special day for my whole family” after being confirmed as a new Man Utd player on Sunday.

There had been rumours throughout the winter transfer window about which wing-back the Red Devils would sign as they look to support Ruben Amorim in the market.

Dorgu has seemed likely for a week or so now and the Denmark international waved goodbye to the Lecce fans on Friday as he appeared on the bench in a 3-1 win over Parma.

And on Sunday Man Utd finally confirmed the transfer, which is believed to be for a fee of around £30m, on Sunday with the Red Devils confirming that Dorgu had signed a contract until the summer of 2030.

Dorgu, who played 57 times for Lecce, has joined ‘subject to visa and registration’ and Man Utd have ‘the option of an additional year’ in his contract.

And the Dane revealed that he is excited to get started as a new Man Utd player and revealed that Amorim’s vision attracted him to the Premier League club.

Dorgu told the club’s official website: “I am incredibly proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player; this is a very special day for my whole family.

“I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim; his vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting. There is a clear plan set out for my development, and I feel that Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and complete my huge ambitions.”

It’s too late now, but Dorgu’s former Denmark Under-19 coach Jens Fønnskov Olsen insisted recently that he would rather the wing-back joined another team than Man Utd.

Olsen said: “If I have to be a little cheeky, I hope he chooses something other than Manchester United right now. I don’t know if it’s a bad fit, but they’re just in a period where… I don’t know if you can afford to say no to United, but maybe somewhere where there’s a little more structure and where things fit in with his pace.

“Sometimes things have to go in the right order, if you can say it like that.”

Man Utd identify £25m Aston Villa star as Rashford replacement with ‘medical’ underway

Man Utd have identified Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey as a potential replacement for Villa-bound Marcus Rashford, according to reports.

Rashford was left out of the Red Devils’ matchday squad for their 2-1 win over Man City in the Manchester Derby and has only made one squad since then.

That saw the Man Utd forward admit he was open to a “new challenge” away from the club, while Ruben Amorim recently hit out at Rashford over his performances in training.

Amorim insisted he would rather select Man Utd goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital while Rashford continued to lack effort in training sessions.

It seemed like Barcelona was the only destination Rashford wanted until news of interest from Aston Villa and now the Man Utd winger is set to complete a move to Villa Park on loan.

The same journalist who broke the news of Aston Villa’s interest in Rashford has reported today that the Man Utd forward is now “undergoing a medical” at the club.

Matteo Moretto wrote on X: ‘Marcus Rashford is undergoing a medical with Aston Villa.’

And now The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell claims that Man Utd could turn to Aston Villa’s Bailey – who moved to Villa Park from Bayer Leverkusen for £25m in 2021 – or Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel as they look to replace Rashford.

                Whitwell wrote:

‘Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel and Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey are options being considered by Manchester United ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

‘Any move for Bailey would be separate from Marcus Rashford’s proposed loan move to Villa for the remainder of 2024-25. While Rashford predominantly plays as a left-sided attacking player, Jamaican international Bailey operates on the right flank.

‘Rashford’s exit means United would like to add an offensive player if at all possible to help fill the gap in Ruben Amorim’s squad.

‘United are yet to advance talks with either Villa or Bayern but both have been discussed should they be made available for a loan move ahead of the transfer window closing.’

👉 Man Utd a ‘concrete option’ for Mathys Tel but Aston Villa present strong challenge for striker

On why Rashford’s exit on loan makes sense for Man Utd, Whitwell added:

‘Manchester United would traditionally be wary of sending a player to an English rival, fearful of the prospect of them performing well and making their difficulties at Old Trafford seem the fault of the club. Jesse Lingard’s loan to West Ham springs to mind.

‘But the new United regime is doing things differently and they are ready to sanction a Premier League exit now the money looks like making sense. Villa would be paying a significant portion of Rashford’s £325,000-a-week wages and committing to a buy option.

‘The appeal from a United perspective is that Rashford is so far out of the picture under Amorim that his salary is wasted cash. Recouping some of that at least boosts the bank balance and should Rashford reignite his form, then he becomes a more valuable asset to sell in the summer.

‘Villa’s place in the Champions League, and Rashford’s eligibility, presents the possibility of him reminding people he is capable of delivering on the biggest of stages. Rashford appears to have been persuaded of the appeal.’

                  Annual Clearlake update
It was a strange start to the season with Chelsea actually winning games.

Jackson doing his usual scoring 8 or 9 goals in quick succession and then not scoring again for the rest of the season did a nice old end to that.

Again despite the morons in charge of Chelsea spending £1billion + the squad is woefully shite.

Jackson isn’t going to be the world class striker every pundit in October seemed to think he would be. And Maresca refuses to give Guiu a go. Fernandez is one of the most average central midfielders in the league. Disasi and Badiashile have been disastrous. Mudryk pointless. Neto had done next to nothing. Felix has done next to nothing. Sancho has done not much more. Madueke is our most consistent attacker with 7 goals and 3 assists in 21 games. 4 goals came against maybe the worst performance Wolves have put in for a very, very long time.

Caicedo has improved, but still not at the level he was at Brighton.

Sanchez is a disaster. None of the other 50 goalkeepers signed in the last 2 years are anywhere near good enough for top 10 let alone top 4.

Cole Palmer is the only great signing made. And a great one he is. But he can’t carry the trash around him.

Maresca is doing as well now as a lot of Chelsea fans thought he would in the summer. Not a lot of goals scored, let loads in.

Now see Tomori linked with Spurs. A player better than any current cfc cb. Guehi who they f**ked off is also better obviously.

Fofana’s career is unfortunately now done because of injuries, heel never play more than 10 games a season. Same for Lavia. You might say not entirely Twatlakes fault, except both were signed injured, with both having a long injury history despite their age.

And because Egbahli, Winstanley, Lawrence and co have f**ked everything up so badly, there is no money to spend. So cfc stay stuck with the dross they have.

That early season push was incredibly fortunate (as has most other teams twatting about this season) because it means Chelsea should get top 8. Which obviously isn’t good enough for the amount of money spent on this shower.
Will (Lawrence and Winstanley obviously not behind Brighton’s great recruitment. Chuckle brothers have no idea what they’re doing)

                  The pressure is on Arsenal…
                  Bournemouth are an excellent side
. Maybe one of the best we have played this season. It probably helped that their confidence was sky high and they had home advantage but that was a mostly nail biting and tense game.

Liverpool dominated the ball and territory but until we scored it felt like Bournemouth had the better chances. They probably could’ve scored 2 on the day if things had been different with the Semenyo and Kluivert chances.

My stream wasn’t good enough quality to judge the penalty but the commentator seemed convinced it was sloppy defending and in the tight games you’ve got to take your luck where you get it.

Robertson must’ve had it in his head that Kerkez was auditioning for his job today because he put in a blinder of a performance compared to the level he’s been all season. On the other side it’s hard to say if Trent was having a poor game or if Bournemouth made him look poor. There were quite a few unforced errors to my mind which were a bit frustrating when the game was finely balanced for so long.

Onto the next one. 9 points clear piles more pressure onto Arsenal who have a horrible game against a resurgent City tomorrow. If they concede first then you might just see their players crack up.

Low stakes complaint here but the low-slung camera at the Vitality ground has always bothered me (though probably some prefer it, who knows).  I do understand it’s a smaller ground, so they can’t mount higher for any better vantage.

Anyway since their camera is mounted a great deal lower, I initially thought the second of Salah’s goals was a badly mistimed cross-come-shot that would curve miles wide; those kinds of comedy misses are just as much his trademark as was this beauty of a strike that ended the contest.

Relief, because Bournemouth really are brilliant as advertised.  Their camera levels might be crap but wow the football levels assuredly not.  This was a big win on a small ground with a low-slung camera is what I’m saying here in too many words.  Snatch the points and run.

                  It’s a conspiracy I tell ya
Thank you Mr Tickner for voicing all the situations where I feel like I want to cave in my own skull with my sawn-off left leg whenever I hear/read the phrase ‘it only happens to our club.’

It is all such mind-numbing naval gazing I just cannot comprehend how so many people are beset by the same illogical thoughts all at once (but then Brexit and Trump, so…..).*

This is particularly acute when the conspiracies against a particular club come to ‘light’. As though an evil cabal of referees (led by Michael Oliver), Premier League officials, ‘other’ clubs, the Government, God, the Americans, the Illuminati, JFK and Basil Brush have all got together to conspire against your team to prevent them from some dastardly achievement such as ‘Reaching-The-Top-4’, ‘Winning-The-Carabao’ or, perhaps most damning of all, ‘Winning-An-Otherwise-Non-Descript-Home-Game-vs-Everton-Just-Because-They-Don’t-Like-Us’).

Quite why all these nefarious actors have such a grudge against your team is never fully explained. Nor has any evidence ever come out to say something along the lines of ‘we need to stop XXXX FC by any means necessary’. But there is clearly something about the human condition that lends itself to such behaviour and thoughts so maybe it is best that I just take my pills and shrug.

*Obviously this does not include Leicester who are absolutely, 100% being targeted by the cabal for dodging the PSR penalties and, thus, the PL and EFL (led by Basil B) are definitely out to get us, I can guarantee you that.
Rob (off to find a non-rusty saw for my left leg), Leicester

                  Squillions of dosh
On the back of the relatively young Jhon Durán going east, I’ve tried, and failed miserably, to construct a ‘type’ of geezer that cannot say no to pif’s filthy lucre, – though is it really so filthy? That is a long and complex debate (albeit slightly less tedious than VAR mails).

Seeing as Mohamed signed, from what may be termed, a left-field Roma , as was Becker, it becomes tricky to guess from where his Anfield replacement may be plucked .

When the merengues got their Mbappe I saw a few rumours in the press around their right sided attacker, Rodrygo who I still think is a bit under rated so he would be my first punt.

Even younger is of course , the astonishing Lamine Yamal who must be worth similar to what Neymar junior left FCB for, so probably a little out of Liverpool’s budget. At least, if the redmen win the title, Salah leaving a la Keegan can be smooth ish .

You’d suppose that the suits at Liverpool will have some proper cash to splurge on replacement players, even more so as champions and young ‘stars’ will be chomping at the bit to get coached by Arne Slot and his merry men .

A question to Liverpool fans then, do yous see Ben D’Oak rising to become elite? King Benny?

Whatever happens in the summer, those going to play (walking) footie in one of the hottest places on earth, where, ironically they have a winter break, – ‘go figure’ as the americans say, will make many men, from many a varied background, rich beyond proper comprehension .
Peter. (would Barça be back in the black if they sold Yamal?) Andalucia.

                  Man Utd and race
It’s a good job Tom wants to leave it to “sharper minds” because I’ve met spaniels with better arguments…

Patrice Evra? Former club captain, adored by the fans, bombed up and down the line and only wouldn’t make an all time United XI because Sir Denis Irwin is the GOAT. Fans 100% behind him when another club donned their t-shirts…

How about Tony Valencia, also a former club captain and widely appreciated player thats game was based on industry (and smashing crosses into the shins of opposition full backs)?

Or Nani. A hot and cold maverick but never once accused of being lazy, just hit and miss with his decision making.

Then there’s Three-Lung Park, the hardest working player ever to play for United and an absolute fan favourite.

Or the Yorke and Cole double act? I was in the stands, we bloody loved them, they were electric.

It’s almost like you’re cherry picking evidence to fit your preconceived ideas. One of the biggest causes of political polarisation on both sides is that as we drown in a sea of information in the internet age, we can find sources that back up our opinions. Nothing is ever baseless because there’s always something, however spurious, saying we’re right. Study after study in behavioural psychology shows that people will skip over evidence that runs contrary to their viewpoint, or more specifically, the viewpoint of their tribe. Log off and read some books.

                  Have a great weekend everyone,
                  Lewis, Busby Way

As a counterbalance to the hand-wringing crap spouted by Tom E13 in Friday morning’s mailbox, here’s a few more Man Utd players who have been pilloried by fans, managers and/or the media at various points over the years.

Harry Maguire (slabhead, ex-captain, turning circle of the Titanic), Scott McTominay (headless chicken), Darren Fletcher (why do the Scots rate him?), Luke Shaw (high weight, low intelligence), Rasmus Hojlund (couldn’t score in a brothel), Phil Jones (too ashamed to accept a testimonial – look at his stupid face!), Bastian Schweinsteiger (take your world cup medal and go train with the under-16s), David May (celebrating like he won the champions league), Massimo Taibi (all-time #1 comedy goalkeeper), Mark Bosnich (a terrible professional), David de Gea (do us a favour and retire), Fabian Barthez (I still have a T-shirt from F365 with his face on a clown’s body), Lee Sharpe (party boy), Darren Ferguson (daddy’s boy)…
                  Martin, BRFC

                  Godwin’s Law.
In 1990 (yes, it really was 35 years ago! God, I feel old), Mike Godwin, surmised that once someone online compared a view to Naziism, the argument was well and truly over. Essentially, a person has ran out of thoughts, ideas, and coherent speech that they must accuse the other of behaving like a Nazi – obviously if one were to take on the traits, then, yes, you are indeed a Nazi.

It doesn’t mean they are one, just that the argument is lost and there’s nothing else to say but that. Ergo, the accuser has ran out of options and gone down the schoolyard approach.

My point is that within football, some fans will come up with/make up/discard some facts for narrative, to categorically state that this, that, and the other is against them. And there is no one who can bring them down. You can try but it will invariably lead to an argument of a ‘conspiracy against us’.

                  Godwin’s Law.

They can’t prove it of course, but the beauty is that you can’t prove that they are wrong either. Doesn’t matter that to pull off such a feat would require the (presumably paid for) silence of thousands across the globe to achieve it. Oddly, this is the go-to argument about the moon landing; Russia could have said “nope, never happened,” but they didn’t. They said “congratulations,” despite wanting nothing more than to refute it.

Naturally I am not likening these ridiculous thoughts to the Third Reich, but it does have a similar feel, no? Shit happens, whether it be by design or just because, but what it doesn’t mean is that The FA, The PL, and the hundreds of thousands of people employed within football have decided that they are going to target your club and make sure you never find out about it.

Okay, point at Cootes all you like, or Oliver, but it isn’t a conspiracy. It’s an individual who makes mistakes or had a difference of opinion. PGMOL for all its faults are not out to get you. If they were we would know by now, and football in this country would have collapsed a long time ago.

Stop with “A does not equal B, even though it’s the same, which proves I am right” nonsense. Don’t lose your argument by being that person.

“Here we go!”: Fabrizio Romano confirms Marcus Rashford’s medical at Villa today, buy option for summer

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford’s loan move to Aston Villa is a “here we go” according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 27 year old was on the radar of numerous top teams around Europe including FC Barcelona, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund.

It was thought Barcelona were his preferred option but the Catalans were unable to make space for a deal for the England international.

It was relayed here yesterday that Aston Villa had reached an agreement with United on a deal that will see Rashford go to Villa Park until June 2025.

It was also thought that Villa would cover 60% of his wages but it seems that the Birmingham-based side will cover even more.

Fabrizio Romano posted on his X account this morning: “Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, here we go!”

“Agreement in place on loan deal with over 70% salary covered by Villa.”

“Buy option clause worth £40m also included in contract with potential three year and half deal to follow.”

The medical is also booked for later today.

Therefore, it is logical to assume that the deal will be completed and announced later on today or on Monday at the latest.

United fans and coach Ruben Amorim will be glad that the issue has finally been settled as the situation was hanging over the club like a black cloud.

The Red Devils are now in a race against time to find a replacement for Rashford and it was reported last night that they are still in the market for Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel, Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku and, surprisingly, Villa’s Leon Bailey as potential options.

Rashford is likely to make his debut for the Villans at home to Tottenham Hotspur next week in the FA Cup.

Six changes for Amorim as he picks a high-speed United side to blow Palace apart – prediction

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has only two players of his first team squad that are unavailable due to injury.

Jonny Evans and Mason Mount are now the only stars still on the treatment table.

Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw are fit and training but unlikely to be included in today’s starting line-up due to lack of match fitness.

At the time of writing, Marcus Rashford looks set to join Aston Villa on loan and would in any case be unlikely to make the squad after falling out with Amorim.

United have reportedly signed Patrick Dorgu from Lecce but he will not be registered in time to take part.

Antony has departed on loan to Real Betis but Tyrell Malacia’s prospective loan move to Benfica looks to be off.

Focusing on who is likely to play today, Andre Onana will no doubt come back in goal, replacing “cup keeper” Altay Bayindir.

Harry Maguire will probably return to the back three, with Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez keeping their places and Noussair Mazraoui returning to the wing back role.

Diogo Dalot will continue as the other wing back.

Manu Ugarte was rested against FCSB on Thursday and should return in central midfield. We expect him to partner Bruno Fernandes, with Toby Collyer making way.

Kobbie Mainoo did well in an unusual outing as a number 10 against FCSB and could keep his place, having scored a good goal. However, we think Alejandro Garnacho and Amad will be recalled to the twin 10 roles, with Christian Eriksen also making way.

Up front, Josh Zirkzee could replace Rasmus Hojlund, who was better on Thursday than he has been but still looked woefully short of confidence.

The bench could comprise Bayindir, Lindelof, Leny Yoro, Malacia, Eriksen, Casemiro, Collyer, Mainoo and Hojlund.

Here then is our predicted XI for the 2pm kick-off:
