Who will be the next Premier League manager to be sacked?

Erik Ten Hag has become the first managerial casualty of the Premier League season, something which absolutely everyone not employed by Manchester United could see coming from the moment he escaped being the last casualty of the previous season.

But the Sack Race never stops, it just shifts targets. And now the glare lands on the relegation-haunted stylings of the managers at Southampton and Wolves, as well as the feast-or-famine antics of West Ham. Here’s the latest order of things according to Oddschecker.

1) Julen Lopetegui
Stormed out of Wolves days before the season began a year ago and West Ham is a club that could test the patience of a saint. Really does have some of the very best attacking players outside the Big Six to work with, which hopefully reduces the potential for huffing off at the first sign of trouble.

Which is just as well, because the first sign of trouble duly arrived. It’s all a bit feast-or-famine for the Hammers at the moment, with their last four Premier League results including a 4-1 thrashing of Ipswich and a very, very funny Ten Hag-dooming win over Manchester United but also absolute paddlings from Tottenham and Surprise Package Nottingham Forest. It’s the sort of maddening run that could easily fray a character like Lopetegui.

The fact a sacking or huffing are equally acceptable in this market does make this feel like it could be a goer, given Lopetegui’s reputation. David Moyes back by Christmas? A third stint for the great man would be some magnificently mid-table Serie A behaviour from the Hammers and one we would not currently entirely rule out.

2) Russell Martin
We feared it might all go a bit Vincent Kompany for Russell Martin, and four defeats from the first four was definitely a bit Burnley, as was conceding a late equaliser against Ipswich and indeed going down pretty convincingly at Bournemouth and then losing from 2-0 at home to Leicester of all teams. But he’s got a win under his belt now at least, and Burnley stuck with Kompany, didn’t they? Right up until he buggered off.

Russell Martin is the next manager of Bayern Munich, is what we’re saying here.

3) Gary O’Neil
Eight points from a possible 60 for the Wolves manager since being (really quite ludicrously, to be fair) linked with the Man United job. A sign of just how far the tentacles of doom can stretch from that accursed football club. After signing that shiny new four-year contract in the summer O’Neil needs a win very fast with Wolves sat bottom of the table.

Still, the performance against Man City was enormously encouraging, and if you’re of a glass-half-full disposition they’re on a two-match unbeaten run since that late sickener against the champions.

4) Oliver Glasner
God bless Dr Tottenham.

5) Kieran McKenna
Ipswich spent a good chunk of the start of the summer fending off interest in their manager and a difficult start to the season on their long-awaited return to the Premier League is surely baked in. Glib and simplistic it may be, but the comparisons between Luton and Ipswich and thus Rob Edwards and McKenna are easily made. And Luton never once looked like getting rid of Edwards last season.

Ipswich may still await their first win but there’s been nothing about them to suggest they’re going to spend the season being horribly outclassed every week either. Probably helps them that others down at the bottom of the table are finding wins equally hard to come by and with less by way of mitigation.

6) Steve Cooper
He has what is technically known as a team that is ‘sh*t’ and is clearly hoping to survive by trying to stay in games for as long as possible and see what can be pilfered. Not every team they play is going to be as naively stupid as Spurs, sure, but a lot of them are still quite stupid and most importantly it does look very much like Leicester’s best/least bad route.

Cooper might not keep them up, but he is new in the job and it’s also hard to see how anyone else they might get would improve their chances. So it probably does have to get very bad indeed before he’s in serious trouble.

A point at Arsenal would have been both incredible and incredibly surprising but it was not meant to be. The Gunners’ pressure finally took its toll in stoppage time to earn a deserved win. The win at Southampton from 2-0 down could be huge and let’s be entirely real here: no manager should be under any pressure whatsoever for having this Leicester squad in 15th place and five points clear of the bottom three.

7) Marco Silva
Fulham have spent the last couple of seasons in near invisibility in mid-table, which is very much a good thing. Rode out the loss of Alexander Mitrovic really well last season and once again be set for a year of bobbing about harmlessly enough in mid-table.

But it’s getting to a tricky point for Silva, in a way. He’s doing a perfectly adequate job, but almost if anything too adequate for me, Clive. He’s in danger of finding that unwanted zone where he’s invisible to bigger clubs who might be on the lookout for a new manager while by far the most likely way he does get noticed is if things start going very badly rather than very well. The good news is that things are currently going very well, with Silva himself duly going all but entirely unnoticed.

8) Ange Postecoglou
Just an endlessly fascinating manager of a wild football team. There is a growing sense that while it’s all quite fun he might actually be building – at, it should be noted, huge expense – the most ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham’ Tottenham team yet.

Postecoglou’s Spurs have won eight of their last 10 since being outwitted by Arsenal in the NLD, and yet the two defeats are unbelievably stupid: from 2-0 up at Brighton, and at a Palace team that hadn’t won a league game in their first eight attempts.

But you can’t ignore those eight wins, especially as so many of them have been hugely impressive. There’s definitely something about the contrasting nature of Spurs’ wins and losses. They’ve won five Premier League games and lost four, and yet they have a goal difference of +11, which is better than everyone other than table-topping Liverpool. They’ve scored more league goals than anyone, and boast a defence officially as good as City’s and Arsenal’s and yet it amounts to nothing. Their defeats are all by the odd goal, while only one of their wins has been by less than three goals and that was by two.

The pattern is clear: when they are good, Postecolgou’s Spurs blow teams away. Even objectively excellent teams like Aston Villa. But when they are bad they get nothing.

Really does feel like if Spurs are happy to go back to the good old pre-Big Six days of being an entertaining but ultimately irrelevant team who’ll have some good days and some terrible days while finishing somewhere between fifth and 10th, then Big Ange is absolutely fine. But increasingly hard to see how playing what at times amounts to wilfully stupid football stupidly ever amounts to more than that.

9=) Sean Dyche
Encouraging signs abound now for Everton after that harrowing start. Dyche, for his part, appears so resolutely determined to stay and fight back whatever tides of despair are currently crashing into Goodison Park’s walls that if you didn’t know better you’d think he was positively revelling in all the adversity.

Go ahead, take more points off him. It only makes him win 1-0 more.

We couldn’t see Dyche as the first manager to leave at all when he first achieved favouritism here, but we also couldn’t see them losing 3-2 when cruising along at 2-0 up with five minutes to go against Bournemouth. And enjoying the experience so much that they would then immediately blew another two-goal lead against Villa. Dropping another couple of points from a winning position in a six-pointer against Leicester meant that even getting off the mark feels like a setback.

Everton flipped the script against Crystal Palace, going 1-0 down and winning. A point against Newcastle is solid enough, especially with Anthony Gordon failing from the penalty spot, while victory at Ipswich was their first away from home since December or some such equally ludicrous thing. Snatched a late point against Fulham and Everton remain outside the immediate danger zone even after a first defeat in six against previously winless Southampton. It’s certainly something after the way those first four games went. Which was very badly indeed.

9=) Eddie Howe
Could absolutely go tits skyward at any moment and there are clearly key figures at Newcastle not quite seeing eye to eye, and it would be fair to say Newcastle’s performances in their first four games weren’t really performances you’d expect to yield a hugely impressive 10 points. That run of fortune came to an end at Fulham in quite emphatic style but the performance against Man City was their best of the season. Should really have beaten Everton and probably Brighton but a team that appeared to be reverting to the mean – and not in a good way – then turned Arsenal over good and proper.

Howe had looked a likely contender for next manager in crisis, but that Arsenal win certainly scuppers all that chat for now. We may have to accept, for a short while, that no big club currently has a manager under the cosh. Which is very annoying and entirely unacceptable.

9) Thomas Frank
Sits quietly in the top 10 contenders for quite a lot of other jobs and but the resolution to the United manager situation means Brentford fans can all rest a touch easier for a while.

Brentford did flirt with serious trouble for uncomfortably long periods last season, but there was never any really serious chat about binning the manager who has done so very much for them and it would need to be going really, really badly for that to change this time around, you’d think. Have started this season perfectly well, with the apparent disparity between home form (excellent) and away form (execrable) still in ‘red herring’ territory given the surely related disparity of teams involved. Their excellent home results have come against Palace, Southampton, West Ham, Wolves and Ipswich; the superficially worrying away results at Liverpool, Man City, Tottenham and Man United.

12) Enzo Maresca
Results are awkwardly not reallymatching the narrative around Chelsea, who avoided complete catastrophe against City on the opening day and have been tidy enough on the pitch since despite the neverending swirl of chaos off it. Big away wins at Wolves, West Ham, and the home dismantling of Brighton have hinted at rich potential for Maresca’s side among all the nonsense, while even in defeat at Liverpool there were encouraging signs to be seen and more still in a Cole Palmer-inspired win over Newcastle.

13=) Unai Emery
Obviously not going anywhere, despite the minor sting of not managing to land another blow on his former club in between tidy away wins to indicate Villa also have no plans on disappearing. Going 2-0 down to Everton before beating them 3-2 was just cruel, and points to a sinister and unpleasant side to the man we didn’t expect. Not cool. Has developed a curious habit of conceding four second-half goals in games against Tottenham, which to be honest is something we’d look to stop doing if we were him.

13=) Andoni Iraola
What’s he up to here, then? Bournemouth had eight points from their first seven games, which isn’t exactly a crisis but wasn’t a brilliant start either. Since that point, his side have taken seven points from games against Arsenal, Villa and Man City. It’s an extreme example, but does all tie in with the overriding feeling from last season that Iraola isn’t far away from doing something quite special if he can it all to come together at Bournemouth over a sustained period of time.

13=) Nuno Espirito Santo
Forest are quite mad so rule nothing out but they are now third in the league, halfway to a survival-securing points haul and have lost the same number of games as Liverpool and City and fewer than literally everyone else. It would be quite something for Nuno to be next manager out from that position, wouldn’t it? At any other club it would be inconceivable.

16=) Pep Guardiola
It would be no great surprise if this is his last season at Manchester City, but it would be a huge one if he leaves for any reason before its conclusion.

16=) Fabian Hurzeler
Another intriguing new face in Our League, tasked with getting Brighton back to where they were a year ago before things just took a turn for the dreary in Roberto De Zerbi’s first and final full season in charge.

They almost completely forgot how to win games in the second half of the season, which isn’t ideal, but the new manager made a quite literally perfect start in ironing out that particular wrinkle and a point at the Emirates is almost never a bad way to drop your first points of the season. Subsequent draws with Ipswich and Forest slightly more niggling, but no real drama. And getting battered by Chelsea is not as humiliating as we thought it would have been two months ago.

Hurzeler has now also made a vital step that all managers who hope to make their way in the Barclays must: inflict hilarious embarrassment on Tottenham.

18=) Arne Slot
Liverpool’s home defeat to Forest stands as comfortably the most jarringly unexpected of the season to date, bringing to a shuddering halt a perfect start to the season that had got a lot of people quite understandably quite excited. The Reds have bounced back well, beating Bournemouth and Wolves and most significantly Chelsea in their first major test of the season before taking a 2-2 draw from an entertaining trip to the Emirates. A come-from-behind win over Brighton on a weekend when Arsenal, City and Villa all lost while Chelsea also dropped points is, you would have to say, handy.

18=) Mikel Arteta
Even we are not about to start ‘Arteta sack?’ talk despite our obvious desperation to place some poor sod of a manager or other under the microscope, but this is an undeniably tricky period for a manager who has endured precious few of those in the last two seasons.

We have been keen to note that not even Klopp’s peak Liverpool could cope with the harsh demands of taking City on for three years in a row, and it’s starting to look like there might be something in that. That trip to Chelsea before the international break looks pretty massive, suddenly.

This big tactical decision from Van Nistelrooy will be key to breaking down stubborn European opponents tonight

Manchester United face Greek outfit PAOK Salonika at Old Trafford on Thursday in Matchday 4 of the Europa League.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will hope to secure United’s first win of the campaign after the team drew their opening three fixtures which left them with a lot of work to do to qualify for the knockout phase.

United will be expected to swat aside their far-less glamorous opponents at Old Trafford with the interim manager expected to name a strong line-up in his penultimate game in charge.

He will will want to hand over the reigns with United’s front men in better form. The game will offer the Red Devils the chance to rack up a few goals and getting the ball into attacking areas quickly will be key to how many United can register.

Below-par quality in building from the back has lead to some catastrophic results this season but Van Nistelrooy has overseen a couple of decent results since the sacking of Erik ten Hag.

High tempo is expected to continue tonight with Casemiro and Manual Ugarte tasked with feeding Bruno Fernandes who will look to operate between the lines once more this evening.

The captain’s ability to pick a lock should result in chances galore for United’s wide men who need to improve their final action in front of goal to turn the tide on what has been a disappointing season so far.

It’s been feast or famine for United this term with a few big numbers registered in a handful of games but too often they have been found wanting in the final third, mainly down to the profligacy of the front men.

However, the quality is there and getting the wingers in one-v-one situations should result in them winning their individual battles.

Rasmus Hojlund will be keen to continue his excellent European record for the club and United should look to feed the Dane at every opportunity with cut-backs from the byline or early crosses from deeper positions.

His interim manager played with some of the greatest wingers to have ever played the game and Van Nistelrooy will be asking his wide men to provide the 21-year-old with chances against the Greek champions.

Defensively, United’s back line should be in for a comfortable evening with the protection offered by Casemiro and Ugarte but will still need to remain wary, especially during set-plays.

Matthijs de Ligt will be tasked with dealing with balls into the box as well as providing a threat from attacking set pieces.

Noussair Mazraoui was excellent in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea at the weekend and will look to cause damage in tandem with the wingers and the same will be expected of Diogo Dalot on the opposite flank.

Getting the ball wide will be key to breaking down what could be a stubborn PAOK side this evening and if United’s wingers are in good form, it promises to be a fruitful night under the lights at the Theatre of Dreams.

Man Utd: Amorim snubbed as alternative manager should’ve replaced Ten Hag for one ‘big’ reason

Manchester United have been told why interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy should have been appointed instead of incoming head coach Ruben Amorim.

39-year-old Amorim was named Man Utd head coach last week following INEOS’ decision to sack Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman lost his job after their disappointing 2-1 loss at West Ham.

Amorim has done a sensational job at Sporting Lisbon since 2020 as he’s helped them win the Primeira Liga twice. They have also made a stunning start to this campaign, winning their opening ten league games.

The talented head coach got some Man Utd supporters – Rio Ferdinand especially – overly excited in midweek as in his penultimate game in charge, his Sporting Lisbon side battled back from behind to beat Manchester City 4-1 in the Champions League group stages.

Amorim officially joins Man Utd at the start of next week, with Sunday’s home match against Leicester City being Van Nistelrooy’s last game as interim boss.

It remains to be seen whether Van Nistelrooy will stay on after Amorim joins Man Utd. He returned to Man Utd in the summer as he became Ten Hag’s assistant.

Van Nistelrooy has handled himself well since stepping in for Ten Hag after he previously had a stint in charge at Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven.

Former Man Utd player Kleberson wanted Van Nistelrooy to replace Ten Hag as there’s one “big thing” in his favour.

“I would like to see Ruud be the manager of United, 100 percent – he has a passion for the club,” Kleberson said.

“He has a lot of stuff from Ferguson, and I know that they have spoken a lot from being there together.

“The biggest thing is that Ruud knows the culture of the club, that Ferguson helped put in place. He knows the club, and can make change and the players will listen to him more because he was a great player and goal scorer in the history of the club.

“Ruud would know how to play the locker room, how the guys are feeling, and whilst I love Amorim as a young coach and the amazing things that he has done at Sporting, I really would have loved to have seen how Ruud would do as manager.”

Kleberson has also explained why he “feels so sorry” for Ten Hag.

“I feel so sorry for Ten Hag leaving United, but we know that football is all about winning games and getting trophies, and people in football want things to happen quickly and they don’t have patience,” Kleberson added.

“But to see Ruud on the side against Leicester managing United, I was so happy for him because I know him well and how prepared he would be for this and how he would bring back the old spirit to United.

“To see him on the side of the field, it was great to see as a friend, and I was really happy for him.”

Music to United’s ears: Amorim’s top target could be available for a cut-price fee next summer – Telegraph

Manchester United’s shortcomings in front of goal were on display against Chelsea last weekend as the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes squandered presentable chances.

This has been a regular occurrence this season with the Red Devils topping the league chart for the most big chances missed.

Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy was asked the question ahead of United’s Europa League game against PAOK and he felt pleased that the team was creating chances and advised United’s No 9 Rasmus Hojlund to keep his composure in order to become a ruthless finisher.

Incoming manager Ruben Amorim will be hoping to ensure the Dane and summer signing Joshua Zirkzee can rediscover their scoring touch but if things do not massively improve, the 20-time English league champions will be forced to utilise the transfer market.

United desperately need goals

And the obvious target is Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon with the Swede turning into a ruthless finisher since moving from Coventry City to play under Amorim.

The 26-year-old has 23 goals in only 17 games this season including a stunning hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Initial reports had suggested that Sporting would only let him go if any team triggers his release clause of £83 million but The Telegraph have now revealed that Premier League suitors could potentially acquire him for £20 million less.

Only for next summer, his clause would drop to £63 million and the likes of United, Chelsea, and Arsenal could pounce. While all three teams need an elite striker, Amorim’s arrival could potentially hand the Old Trafford side the advantage.

“Premier League clubs have been put on red alert after it emerged Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres is available for just £63 million.

Gyokeres cut-price fee

“United, Chelsea and Arsenal have previously been linked with the former Coventry City player, who has scored 23 goals in 17 matches this season.

“Gyokeres has a €100 million (£83 million) release clause in his contract with Sporting, which expires in 2028. But it is understood the Sweden international will be allowed to leave for a lower fee in the summer.”

It still will mark a huge profit for Sporting who had signed the Sweden international for only £20 million. A future approach will depend on the kind of funds INEOS can muster.

From United’s standpoint, they need to finish the season strong and end up in the European places or else one of the other big teams will eventually hijack the deal and win the transfer race.

Fabrizio Romano offers crucial update on Van Nistelrooy’s future as Amorim prepares to join United

Fabrizio Romano has revealed a crucial update on Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future at Manchester United as incoming manager Ruben Amorim prepares to join the club.

Upon Erik ten Hag’s departure, Van Nistelrooy took over as the club’s interim manager until Amorim could join as Ten Hag’s successor on a permanent basis.

Van Nistelrooy has enjoyed a respectable run as Man United’s interim manager so far, encouraging his team to play free-flowing, attacking football that resulted in a 5-2 win over Leicester City and a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

While the former United striker has expressed a desire to stay at the club even after Amorim joins, there is no guarantee that this will be the case.

Fabrizio Romano revealed that Amorim will have the power to dismiss Van Nistelrooy from United should he choose.

“I wanted to tell you that today, in the press conference, Ruud van Nistelrooy, the interim manager of Manchester United, said the truth; he was not lying. Ruud van Nistelrooy never had any contact so far with Ruben Amorim,” Romano confirmed.

This was before Romano dropped a major bombshell.

“Ruben Amorim wants to make a decision in the next days on the staff and what he wants to do with Ruud van Nistelrooy. So, at the moment, it’s not guaranteed that Ruud van Nistelrooy will stay at Manchester United as part of the staff with Ruben Amorim.”

Although it appears as if Amorim has the discretion to determine Van Nistelrooy’s future if Romano’s claim proves correct, he may want to consider keeping the Dutch former striker in order to win over the United dressing room.

The Peoples Person relayed a report that United players are keen on keeping Van Nistelrooy at the club even as the new manager takes over.

“Van Nistelrooy was appointed assistant manager and quickly formed a bond with the squad, who regarded him as easier to communicate with than ten Hag, would could blow hot and cold with players,” the report claimed.

Tonight, United are set to take on PAOK Salonika in the Europa League in what is Van Nistelrooy’s final game as the interim manager. A win could play a crucial role in convincing Amorim that the United legend is indeed worth keeping around at the club in some capacity, both as a popular and effective coach.

Man Utd: Neville’s one Amorim concern rebuffed by Moyes as Wright lauds ‘brilliant’ INEOS decision

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has admitted he has one concern about new head coach Ruben Amorim, but this has been rebuffed by David Moyes.

Man Utd co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his recruitment team have appointed Amorim to replace Erik ten Hag, who was sacked after their disappointing 2-1 loss at West Ham.

Amorim was targeted by Liverpool and West Ham in the summer but he stuck with Sporting Lisbon after the two Premier League clubs went in a different direction.

The 39-year-old has done a brilliant job at Sporting Lisbon since arriving in 2020. He has helped them win the Primeira Liga twice and they have won their first ten league matches this season.

Rio Ferdinand got overly giddy about his arrival after Amorim’s Sporting Lisbon came back from behind to beat Manchester City 4-1 on Tuesday night.

Despite this, Neville has one concern regarding Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 formation.

“You’re always optimistic about a new manager coming in,” Neville said during the latest episode of The Overlap.

READ: Ruben Amorim and the three-letter word that should excite Man Utd fans

“I can see why he [Rúben Amorim] wanted the job next summer because he would rather have pre-season to implement the brand-new system. Those players have not played three at the back at all, some of them might never have played it.”

However, former Man Utd manager David Moyes does not think the players “will take too long” to adapt to Amorim.

“Players are more flexible nowadays. Players from your day [to Gary Neville] might have taken a bit more time. Players now are used to it,” Moyes added.

“[Manchester] United have got enough central defenders and more wing-backs. I don’t think the adaptation for Manchester United will take too long.

“It might a while for it to get to where he [Rúben Amorim] wants it, but I think Manchester United will be fine.”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright meanwhile thinks INEOS made a “brilliant” move when they gave Amorim an ultimatum.

“For him [Rúben Amorim] coming in at this stage, where they said he comes now or it’s off the table – that’s brilliant from them [Manchester United],” Wright claimed.

“It’s the first time seeing them actually do something with such intensity. Nobody was expecting anything from [Manchester] United this season.

“For him to have them from now to the end of the season, rather than at the end of the season – like he said he wanted to and get to the summer and then start bringing people in, he can see exactly what he has got on a day-to-day basis.

“Now seeing what he did to [Manchester] City last night, you don’t know what he’s capable of doing.”

United plotting move for ex-Man City star, enquiry already made – report

Manchester United are keen on Leroy Sane, having already enquired about the Bayern Munich star, as per reports.

Ruben Amorim led Sporting CP against Premier League giants Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday and showed just what he is truly capable of achieving on the pitch with the right players.

Accordingly, the large share of the responsibility is on the United board to shape their squad as per their head coach’s vision.

In that regard, a report suggests the Mancunians have already started exploring the opportunity to bring in new players at Old Trafford.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are monitoring multiple Bayern players, who are nearing the end of their contracts in Munich. Sane was also mentioned in the report.

Manchester United and Arsenal interested in Leroy Sane

Now, BILD journalist Christian Falk has also claimed United are interested in the former Manchester City man, who will become a free agent at the end of the current campaign.

— Christian Falk (@cfbayern) November 7, 2024

Falk further adds that the Red Devils have “already inquired” about the winger, who is capable of playing on both flanks.

The 28-year-old is also understood to be on Arsenal’s radar. However, he is expected to wait for the negotiations with Bayern before making any decision on his future.

The German international has three goals to his name in all competitions this season. Still, the arrival of Michael Olise in the summer has left question marks on his spot in Vincent Kompany’s starting lineup.

Meanwhile, there is plenty of uncertainty at United when it comes to their right flank. There is little hope Antony would cement his place in Amorim’s lineup and Amad Diallo, 22, is still too inexperienced.

As such, United’s alleged interest in Sane makes plenty of sense. The fact he already has Premier League experience further strengthens the case.

United are also keeping an eye on Alphonso Davies’ situation. However, the Canadian full-back’s wage demands might hinder their pursuit.

Jayce Fitzgerald is now available for Manchester United’s UEFA Europa League game against PAOK on Thursday night.

The Academy midfielder has been added to the UEFA B List, in advance of the 20:00 GMT kick-off at Old Trafford. Homegrown players under the age of 21 are eligible for the list if they also meet certain criteria, including having at least two years uninterrupted at the club since the age of 15.

Interim head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy gave the midfielder a first inclusion in a senior matchday squad in our 5-2 Carabao Cup victory over Leicester City last week, and the teenager retained that spot for Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

The 17-year-old played the first half of the Under-19s’ 6-0 UEFA Youth League second-leg triumph over Zalgiris on Wednesday night at Leigh Sports Village. He was replaced at the break by summer arrival Sekou Kone.

Our no.75 was born in Salford and represents England at Under-17 level.

Of course, the actual matchday squad will not be released until 75 minutes prior to kick-off – with the United App the place to get the news as it breaks.

Man Utd trio ‘could quit in 2025’ with ‘avenue’ to ‘agree multiple signings’ revealed despite PSR fear

According to reports, three ‘senior’ Manchester United stars ‘could quit’ in 2025 to ‘pave the way for new signings’ in the coming months.

The Red Devils will likely look to be active in the winter transfer window as they have endured a miserable start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Ruben Amorim is leaving Sporting Lisbon to replace Erik ten Hag, who was sacked after Man Utd’s disappointing 2-1 loss at West Ham last month.

United are 13th in the Premier League after ten games as they have only won three games and have also drawn their opening three Europa League group matches.

Man Utd’s struggles from last season have carried over into this campaign and Amorim will have a major job on his hands at Old Trafford.

There is likely to be a major overhaul at Man Utd next year and a report from Football Insider claims Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are ‘three senior stars who could quit in 2025’.

READ: David Moyes managed Manchester United once and it is time we all just moved on

The report claims.

‘Man United trio Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof could leave the club in 2025, sources have told Football Insider. All three defenders are under contract until the end of this season.

‘Ruben Amorim is set to take charge on 11 November and has preferred to use a three-man defence in his managerial career so far.

‘Football Insider revealed on Monday (4 November) that Man United could pursue deals for Sporting CP centre-back duo Ousmane Diomande and Goncalo Inacio next summer.

‘Amorim could dip into the transfer market in 2025 to add more familiar options after arriving at Old Trafford. Exits for Evans, Maguire and Lindelof could pave the way for new signings in the next summer window.’

Another report from Football Insider claims Man Utd could look at the loan market in January to ‘agree multiple signings’ as they look to get around their PSR issues.

‘The Red Devils will struggle to make any permanent signings in the winter transfer window for new boss Ruben Amorim.

‘United’s budget has been stretched after Erik ten Hag was sacked last week and replaced with the costly appointment of Amorim.

‘Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider on Sunday (3 November) that Man United could have spent up to £37.5million on their managerial change.

‘Sources say it will therefore be difficult under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for Amorim to spend any money in the January transfer window.

‘One avenue open to United is the use of loan deals, with the club yet to use their two allotted Premier League loan spaces this term. They could also look overseas to bolster their squad, as they did with Sofyan Amrabat last season before declining to sign him permanently.’

“It was time to move on:” former United prodigy reveals why he left the club this summer in tell-all interview

Former Manchester United player Shola Shoretire revealed exactly what pushed him to leave the club for PAOK.

With Man United set to face PAOK Salonika in the UEFA Europa League tonight, Shoretire gave an inside look at the thinking behind his fateful decision.

Speaking to The Athletic, the former United winger revealed: “People who look at me from the outside might think I’ve failed because I came through the academy but didn’t establish myself in the first team, but I don’t see it like that at all. I was much better for spending all that time at United, but it was time to move on.”

Shoretire explained that he entered into discussions with United over a new contract. While the club offered him a contract, he stated that he was also given the option to leave for free if he decided to allow his contract to lapse.

“I felt that, having made my debut at 17, I was better at making a fresh start at 20. I wasn’t involved in the first-team setup at United as much as I’d hoped and I just wanted to play regular first-team football in a good team,” the 20 year old explained.

“I had options in the Championship, Spain and Greece. I saw that PAOK were Greek champions and would play European football. I was sent a video by a mate of the PAOK fans when they won the league last season. It looked crazy — in a good way. They’re incredibly passionate and you can feel that on and off the pitch.”

Apart from the opportunity to play in a new league and enjoy European football, Shoretire’s decision also came as a result of a desire to experience personal growth outside of football.

“I also spoke to players who’d moved abroad, and they said it’s good for you as a person; I’ve seen that already living by myself for the first time. I cook every day: rice, pasta dishes usually. My dad taught me well,” the PAOK player explained.

Aside from revealing his reason for making the move, Shoretire also spoke about the connections he made at United before his departure.

“Kobbie [Mainoo] is the player I keep in touch with most from United, and I’m proud of him, but I’ve seen so many players who I played with go on to have good careers: Angel Gomes, James Garner, Anthony Elanga, Teden Mengi, Hannibal. There are loads of other top players who I’m sure will do well in time. I learned from them all,” Shoretire revealed.

For Shoretire, life at United was rewarding due to the wealth of knowledge he acquired from more experienced players. “I was training with the first team, and there were good, experienced players like Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic. They took me under their wing.”

He also responded to a question about whether the managerial changes that happened while he was at United had an impact on the opportunities that lay before him, to which Shoretire responded by explaining that it was rather competition that caused him to miss out on certain chances.

Asked whether he felt he deserved more chances, Shoretire humbly replied, “I don’t want to say deserved because that was up to the coaches. I just had to give 100 per cent in training. Maybe a bigger factor was playing in my position. Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes were in my position and played every game. But that’s football; I couldn’t let it get to me. I just had to know my worth as a player and know when it was time to move on. I would have loved to have played more, but I wasn’t angry or frustrated.”

With Shoretire set to join his team in their trip to United, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team will be hoping to use their knowledge of Shoretire’s gameplay to stop him and PAOK in their tracks in an effort to win a crucial three points.

This match will certainly be an important test for United and, more specifically, Van Nistelrooy, being the team’s last match before the international break and the arrival of new permanent manager Ruben Amorim.
