Fantastic day out for United at Old Trafford, but the form of these key stars will give Carrick plenty to ponder in the summer

Manchester United rounded off their home Premier League campaign with an entertaining 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. It was a great day all around for the fans, seeing Casemiro for the final time at the Theatre of Dreams and watching Bruno Fernandes grab the Premier League assist record. The home side opened the scoring through a rare strike from Luke Shaw, while Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo rounded off the scoring. The scoreline could easily have been in double digits if all the players had taken their chances. The club captain could have held the assist record outright as well. Fantastic day out for United, but misses galore Michael Carrick, who is expected to remain in charge for next season, will be delighted with some of the attacking play. But with the Red Devils back in the Champions League and expected to challenge on all four fronts from next season, he will be demanding more from certain key individuals. Bryan Mbeumo, who finally ended his 11-game goal drought, could have had a hat-trick as the Cameroonian missed three glorious opportunities before scoring from the most difficult chance. He has looked a shadow of the player who could do no wrong in the first half of the campaign. Bryan Mbeumo, Amad struggling for form The former Brentford ace looks as though his confidence has taken a beating and he needs to regroup mentally in the summer. The same goes for Amad. The standout player under Ruben Amorim, the Ivorian seems to be suffering from a real lack of confidence when going forward. He seems hesitant when trying to beat his man and always chooses to pass rather than shoot when clean through on goal. With United unlikely to strengthen out on the right, it is imperative the former Atalanta ace gets his act together. The 20-time English league champions will round off the season with an away contest against high-flying Brighton, and hopefully, the duo can show Carrick they belong at this level and have the mental strength to overcome this rut. Eight key passes, three shots: United ace delivered masterclass in Casemiro’s final home game

Manchester United secured a hard-fought 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Sunday, 17 May, in the Premier League. The Red Devils arrived at the game third in the Premier League table, knowing that a point would be enough to help them finish there. Aston Villa’s win over Liverpool earlier this week meant that Michael Carrick’s side were virtually assured of finishing third, thanks to a superior goal difference. However, they still had to go out and get a result on a day when Old Trafford was expected to be a cauldron of emotions. Carrick made three changes to the team that was held to a 0-0 draw by Sunderland last weekend at the Stadium of Light. With Benjamin Sesko still unavailable, Bryan Mbeumo replaced Joshua Zirkzee in attack, while Diogo Dalot was selected ahead of Noussair Mazraoui. However, the one player fans were all waiting for was Casemiro, who missed the previous game with a knock. The Brazilian replaced Mason Mount in the middle of the park. An end-to-end affair There was a buzz around Casemiro ahead of the game, as he was due to feature for the final time at the Theatre of Dreams. The Brazilian has played a starring role in getting United back to the Champions League but is set to leave the club as a free agent this summer. The fans, as such, turned out in large numbers to pay tribute to the 34 year old, who is leaving the club as an Old Trafford legend. The Red Devils enjoyed a tremendous start to the game as well, with Luke Shaw sending them ahead in the fifth minute. Forest got back into the game in the 52nd minute through Morato, only for Matheus Cunha to send United ahead two minutes later. Bruno Fernandes then set up Bryan Mbeumo in the 75th minute to make it 3-1, registering a record-equalling 20th Premier League assist of the season. Forest pulled one back through Morgan Gibbs-White in the 78th minute, but the Red Devils held on to secure all three points and confirm a third-placed finish in the Premier League this season. Central to United’s 11th win under Carrick was their Portuguese maestro, who made the team tick once again. Bruno makes United tick Fernandes registered three shots in the game, one of which was on target, and also won two tackles. The Portuguese had 86 touches of the ball and completed 48 of his 59 passes with an 81% success rate. The United skipper managed eight key passes and created two big chances. With a little more help from his team-mates, the 31 year old could even have broken the Premier League’s assist record this weekend. Fernandes also attempted nine crosses, three of which were accurate, while all three of his long balls found their target. Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha delivered a top-class performance to inspire the club to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest. United win United took the lead inside five minutes through Luke Shaw, who expertly controlled the ball inside the box before firing home to register just his fourth Premier League goal. The hosts dominated from there as they pushed to extend their lead, but it was Forest who struck next. Morata headed in a sublime delivery from Elliot Anderson. But United responded almost immediately. Bryan Mbeumo’s shot was blocked and fell to Cunha, who scored to make it 2-1. Cunha’s goal did not come without controversy. The ball appeared to get trapped between Mbeumo’s arm and his thigh in the buildup. VAR sent referee Michael Salisbury to the pitchside monitor for a review, and the goal stood. Mbeumo, having missed multiple clear-cut opportunities, finally got on the score sheet. The assist was provided by Bruno Fernandes, who has now matched Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne’s all-time Premier League record of 20 assists. Morgan Gibbs-White grabbed Forest’s second of the afternoon to set up a furious finish, but United held on to walk away with all three points. Cunha’s performance Cunha managed a decent 84% pass accuracy during the time he was on the pitch, before he was taken off and replaced by Patrick Dorgu. The Brazilian made eight defensive contributions and touched the ball six times inside the box. He created four chances and fired as many shots. Cunha attempted three take-ons, successfully completing all three of them. The 26-year-old made two progressive carries and created one big chance, which should have resulted in a goal but Mbeumo was denied by the post. Five things we learned as Bruno Fernandes creates history against Nottingham Forest

Manchester United signed off at Old Trafford with a pulsating 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest this afternoon. It was an entertaining, fast-paced game that could have seen the Red Devils score even more goals had their finishing been of a higher standard. It is an important victory for Michael Carrick, guaranteeing a third-placed finish in the Premier League and ensuring the Old Trafford faithful were rewarded for their loyalty and incredible support throughout the season. Let’s break down the five major talking points from this afternoon’s fixture. Bruno equals the record After winning the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year Award for a record-setting fifth time this week, it’s only fitting Bruno Fernandes equalled the all-time Premier League assist record in front of the Old Trafford faithful. The world-class midfielder etched his name into the history books alongside Premier League greats Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne when Bryan Mbuemo poked home his zipped cross in the 76th minute. Fernandes came close to breaking the record on several occasions, most notably when Diogo Dalot took the ball from him on the edge of the Forest box and struck the post with a good effort. Shaw’s consistency gets rewarded Not even the most hopeful United fan would have believed that, with just a single game of the season to go, Luke Shaw would be the only player to have started every Premier League game for the Red Devils. It is a staggering achievement for a player who managed just 27 appearances across the previous two seasons. Against Nottingham Forest, Shaw finally got the reward his consistency deserves. He showed remarkable composure when the ball fell to him inside the Forest box in the fifth minute of the match, bringing the ball down brilliantly before rifling a finish into the bottom corner. Gary Neville described it as ‘a rare moment’ on Sky Sports’ commentary and he certainly isn’t wrong, though it is a moment sure to bring a smile to the faces of United fans everywhere given the hard work Shaw has put in to remain fit throughout the entire season. Casemiro’s Old Trafford farewell The emotion was evident on Casemiro’s face as he walked out to represent the Red Devils at Old Trafford for the final time. The Brazilian international has formed a strong connection with the fans in his four seasons at the club, and he will be sorely missed when he departs at the end of the season. Casemiro had the chance to sign off with a bang when he put an effort just wide of the post in the first half. He did not let that get him down, though, and went on to produce a typically dominant and combative performance in the middle of the pitch, combining some excellent forward passes with well-timed crunching tackles. Every United fan was rightly on their feet when Casemiro walked off the pitch for the final time in the 80th minute, showing their appreciation for a player who has contributed so much to the club, not least of all his nine Premier League goals this season. Mbuemo finally finds his shooting boots In the absence of the injured Benjamin Sesko, Mbuemo was handed the opportunity to play up front and the Cameroonian international certainly had his chances to end his goal drought. For a long while, it seemed as though his twelve-game goal famine was going to extend. Firstly, Mbuemo struck the post after knocking the ball around Matt Sels in the first half. Then, early in the second half, he blazed over from inside the six-yard box after some good work by Amad on the right-hand side. Most disappointingly of all, the ex-Brentford player seemed to squander the chance for Fernandes to equal the Premier League assist record. The Portuguese playmaker sent Mbuemo through with a neat pass and, perhaps unsurprisingly given his earlier misses, he sent the ball high over the Forest net yet again. In the first 75 minutes of the game, United’s striker squandered an xG of over 1.7, failing to hit the target with any of his five shots. Thankfully, Mbuemo managed to make amends by tapping home a fierce cross in the 76th minute, ending his goal drought and ensuring he left the pitch on a positive note when he was replaced by Joshua Zirkzee. Elliot Anderson shows his class Rumours have long been circling suggesting that Elliot Anderson may well be the man United want to replace the departing Casemiro this summer, and the Forest midfielder certainly showed why he is so highly rated in an energetic and creative performance at Old Trafford. Not only did he win three fouls and seemingly cover every blade of grass on the pitch, the England international also showed his quality on the ball by claiming the assists for both Forest goals. Firstly, he whipped in a delicious cross after outmuscling Amad from a short corner routine that was headed home by Morato. Then he fired the ball into Morgan Gibbs-White, who showed remarkable composure to adjust his body and find the far corner. Should the highly-rated midfielder arrive at Old Trafford, fans will be excited to see him deliver such a strong performance in United red. Manchester United welcomed Nottingham Forest to Old Trafford for the final home game of the 2025/2026 season. First half United controlled the game early on, enjoying most of the possession and earning their reward quickly. A poor headed clearance from the Forest defence fell to Luke Shaw, who controlled well and slotted a fine shot into the bottom corner to give the Red Devils the lead. Forest saw more of the ball in response, but after 14 minutes, Fernandes took a shot from just outside the box that was comfortably stopped by Matz Sels. United were once again thankful for their Belgian keeper Senne Lammens, who stopped Morgan Gibbs-White when he was one-on-one with him in front of the Stretford End. Suddenly, Matheus Cunha broke away on the counter and played in Bryan Mbeumo, who rounded the keeper but hit the base of the post. In a crazy run of events, the ball broke to Fernandes, who crossed the ball in, and after Forest failed to clear their lines, Casemiro almost sent the crowd into raptures, but his prodded effort went just shy of the post. Good ball movement from United around the half-hour mark resulted in Fernandes turning into space, but he could not keep his effort down. Forest were almost level moments later when a lovely ball from Elliot Anderson was headed over by Nico Dominguez, who probably should have scored. A corner from Fernandes was cleared well, but Martinez volleyed an effort at goal which was well blocked by Anderson. Just before half-time, Diogo Dalot crossed the ball in for Amad, but his headed effort crept over the bar. The first half came to a quiet end as the game lulled a little, but United found themselves 1-0 up. Second half United started well and hit Forest on the counter. Cunha picked out Amad in the box, who played the ball back to Mbeumo, but he skied a close-range effort, highlighting his lack of confidence at the moment. Forest reminded United what happens when you do not take your chances, as Anderson put in a world-class cross which Morato headed in from close range to drag the visitors level. The home side responded rapidly and Mbeumo’s blocked effort was slid in by Cunha, but VAR intervened and called over the referee. Surprisingly, the referee allowed the goal to stand, and Old Trafford burst out in delight. Lammens was once again United’s saviour as he raced out to stop Gibbs-White from grabbing a rapid equaliser. Fernandes was inches away from getting his record-breaking assist when he played in Mbeumo, but the Cameroonian fired over with the goal gaping. Amad almost got United’s third, but his effort was saved by Sels. Shortly after, Fernandes played in Cunha, but his effort was blocked. Gibbs-White broke through at the United goal, but Martinez put in an impressive block to not only stop a goal but also win a goal kick. Finally, Bruno got his record-equalling assist when he crossed in for Mbeumo, who finally finished his chance to give United a 3-1 lead. Fernandes now just needed one more to break the Premier League record. In a crazy game, Anderson put in another amazing cross and Gibbs-White finished expertly to make it 3-2 to United. Fernandes responded with a stunning cross-pitch ball that found Patrick Dorgu, but his effort was blocked by the Forest keeper. The Portuguese’s wait for the record-breaking assist would need to continue. Substitute Joshua Zirkzee had a great chance to add a fourth when he was played in by Amad, but he failed to reach the ball when he looked a dead cert to reach it first. Mason Mount was next to have a pop at goal, but his effort skewed wide from just outside the area. Diogo Dalot almost secured a fourth, but he hit the inside of the post with the goal gaping. Zirkzee had the last chance to help Fernandes break the record of 21 assists, but he casually side-footed an effort at the Forest keeper. The game ended 3-2, and United signed off their 2025/2026 season at Old Trafford with another win. Shaw, Cunha and Mbeumo grabbed the goals but this United star was the true game-changer in win vs. Forest

Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 in their final home game of the 2025/26 Premier League season. Here are our player ratings from the game. (A score of 6 is around average) Senne Lammens 7 – Excellent saves to deny Morgan Gibbs-White in either half. Nothing much he could do about the two goals he conceded. Diogo Dalot 6.5 – A solid, no-fuss performance. Crisp passing and complete control of his side of the pitch. Almost got a goal in added time but hit the post. Harry Maguire 6 – Did a remarkable job of keeping Chris Wood quiet. Another astute and assured display. Lisandro Martinez 6 – Same as Maguire. Much better than the previous outing against Sunderland, producing some very crucial interventions to thwart Wood and Gibbs-White. Luke Shaw 8 – Took his goal very well to give United the lead. Defended superbly Casemiro 6 – Good on what was his final Old Trafford appearance in a United shirt. Had a chance to score and fought hard in the heart of midfield. Walked onto the pitch and walked off to thunderous applause from the fans. Kobbie Mainoo 7 – Delivered with the trademark calm and composure that defines his game Bruno Fernandes 8 – Didn’t get on the score sheet but it certainly was not due to a lack of trying. Had multiple cracks at goal but just couldn’t quite apply the finishing touch. Ran the game even when things were not coming off and he of course finally got the assist to match Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry’s Premier League record (20). Should have add a few more in all honesty, considering the chances he created for Bryan Mbeumo, Joshua Zirkzee and Patrick Dorgu. Amad 6 – More involved in the game and looked dangerous, even coming close to scoring in the second half. Matheus Cunha 8 – Superb finish to restore United’s advantage. Could have had an assist after slipping in Mbeumo. Bryan Mbeumo 7 – Multiple clear-cut opportunities went begging as his finishing let him down. On track for a frustrating outing, he finally redeemed himself by finding the back of the net. Substitutes Joshua Zirkzee 4 – Chances fell to him, but he failed to capitalise, once again underscoring why questions over his future at the club are lingering as the summer window approaches. Patrick Dorgu 4 – Also presented with a golden opportunity to score after Fernandes zipped the ball to him in space, but he could only hit the goalkeeper. Mason Mount 4 – Little to no impact. PL club confident of ending United’s pursuit of 23 g/a Bruno Fernandes heir – report

Manchester United are preparing for a major midfield rebuild this summer to offset Casemiro’s departure. With Manuel Ugarte’s future also uncertain, the Red Devils could sign more than one player to strengthen the position ahead of a crucial campaign. INEOS have enjoyed tremendous success with their strategy of targeting Premier League-proven names last summer and that trend is likely to continue this year. Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, who has been outstanding this season, is reportedly on their wish list and open to a move to Old Trafford as well. However, the English midfielder is not the only talent from the West Bridgford side currently under consideration at the Theatre of Dreams. United also need a long-term successor for Bruno Fernandes, who will turn 32 this September. Recent reports have suggested that Morgan Gibbs-White has been identified as an option to fill the boots of the mercurial Portuguese. United want Gibbs-White Gibbs-White has been in sensational form this season, registering 16 goals and seven assists in 51 appearances across competitions, 43 of which were starts. The Forest skipper’s creativity, eye for goal, and his work ethic make him a fantastic replacement for Fernandes at Old Trafford. The 26 year old is entering his prime, and his Premier League experience could also prove invaluable for the Red Devils. A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person suggested that United are preparing a blockbuster €200 million offer for Gibbs-White and Anderson this summer. An update on the situation has now emerged. Forest confident of Gibbs-White stay According to TEAMtalk, Forest are confident of keeping hold of their prized asset. The report states: “Nottingham Forest are increasingly confident captain Morgan Gibbs-White will remain at the City Ground this summer despite growing interest from several top clubs and the likely departure of Elliot Anderson, TEAMtalk can reveal.” The West Bridgford side believe only one of Gibbs-White and Anderson will leave this summer, and it appears increasingly likely that it will be Anderson rather than their captain. Gibbs-White is under contract until 2028 and the report states that Forest are confident that the 26 year old will not push for an exit, adding: “TEAMtalk can reveal the club are confident Gibbs-White will not actively push for an exit this summer after committing his long-term future to Forest with a new contract signed last year.” Meanwhile, the West Bridgford club believe their skipper could become even more important if Anderson ends up leaving this summer. The report continues: “Sources close to Forest state the club’s hierarchy view Gibbs-White not only as one of their most important players on the pitch, but also as a key figure within the dressing room and leadership structure.” “Internally, there is a belief that maintaining stability around the captain will become even more important if Anderson departs.” Final Thoughts With Fernandes in red-hot form this season, perhaps Gibbs-White is not a priority for United this summer. However, the Red Devils will get the chance to observe both Anderson and Gibbs-White up close when they host Forest at Old Trafford on Sunday, 17 May, in their penultimate game of the season. His quality, experience and leadership skills could prove invaluable to Manchester United.Robert Lewandowski to Man United?Lewandowski has scored 18 goals this season, and he has picked up four assists as well. What a guy, what a player!! Benjamin Sesko has done reasonably well during his debut campaign, but he needs more support in the attack. He is a young player, and an experienced mentor like Lewandowski could be ideal for him. The Polish International could share the goal-scoring burden with the young attacker. He has also been linked with a move to Manchester United in the past. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can convince the player to join the club. Signing him for a short spell on a free transfer could prove to be a masterstroke. There is no doubt that the Barcelona attacker has the physical and technical attributes to do well in the Premier League, and he could help Manchester United fight for trophies next season. The player has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and the MLS. However, the opportunity to play in the Premier League could be attractive. This could be his final opportunity to compete at the highest level.

“They have been amazing”: United Women star singles out fans for praise after “gruelling season”

Manchester United Women fell to a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea Women in the last match of the season. The Red Devils pushed hard for an equaliser, but it never came as they had to come to terms with yet another defeat to the Blues. Gabby George spoke to the club’s media after the match and felt her side did all they could to get the equaliser that never came. Gabby George Reflecting on her side’s effort, she explained, “I think we pushed all the way to the end. We had some good chances in the game and we just couldn’t get it over the line today but we are going to work on that, reflect and come back next season and hopefully take it to another level.” Asked about the formation change in the middle of the match and the loss of two fullbacks to injury, George admitted that it was tough to deal with. She explained, “I think we just needed to go for it and try get something from the game and change something so went to a three for a little bit. Yeah, it was difficult losing Anna (Sandberg) and Jayde (Riviere), we know how big a part they play in the way that we play but we have different people who can come in and do a job. Frido (Rolfo) came in and did a great job and Hanna’s (Lundkvist) been great since she came in so yeah, we have a great squad, it is just about building from now.” Centre back role George was then asked what it was like to play in a more central role as she played 90 minutes in the centre of the defence. She explained, “yeah, I have got 10 years’ experience playing centre back so I am more comfortable playing there. I can play left back too. It is good to be versatile and I am happy to play wherever the manager wants me to play. So yeah, I will give my all every time I put the shirt on.” Reflection on campaign George was then asked to sum up the experience of the season and she claimed, “these are the seasons that we want. We want to be playing in Europe and that is what we are going to look to do next year and push to try and finish in the Champions League spots.” She also pinpointed the key role of the fans this season and claimed, “they have been amazing. Every single game, home or away, like you said, across Europe. They just stick with us the whole way through. She added, “it has been a gruelling season for us all. We’ve played the most amount of games we have played in any season and we are ticking off little boxes as we go. Of course we wanted to qualify for the Champions League and it hasn’t happened but it’s about how we return next season and push together as a squad.” United Women’s players will now take a well earned break while the club will aim to bolster the squad in the upcoming transfer window with the club already linked to Spanish fullback Andrea Medina.
