Crystal Palace are considering offering a new contract to Man United target Adam Wharton that could include a release clause, according to reports.
The reliable BBC journalist Sami Mokbel has provided an update on the midfielder’s future in his latest column. He claims that the Eagles are likely to table a proposal to the player:
“The club are open to extending the 21-year-old’s deal, which expires in 2029. The insertion of a release clause, which would likely run beyond the £75m mark, could be beneficial to all parties if an agreement over a new deal is possible.”
Wharton is among United’s list of transfer targets, while the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest in the England international.

A move for Brighton’s Carlos Baleba was seriously considered during the summer transfer window but the Manchester club were put off by Brighton’s asking price.
If Wharton does sign a new contract and a buyout clause is inserted, it would make him an attractive target for United.

When the club were linked with the Crystal Palace star back in August, Rio Ferdinand made his feelings very clear on what he thought about the potential transfer:
“I’d sign Adam Wharton in a heartbeat – love him as a footballer – I don’t think we’ll get him.”
Ferdinand’s prediction in the summer proved to be accurate but the chances of Wharton moving clubs in January or at the end of the season could drastically increase if a clause becomes active.
