“Super excited”: Former United star opens up on his life after Old Trafford

Former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has revealed his thoughts on his move to Aston Villa.

United career

The Sweden international joined United in 2017 from SL Benfica.

He spent eight seasons at Old Trafford, playing 284 times and scoring four goals.

Lindelof saw his role gradually decrease in the team over the seasons and was only involved in 16 Premier League matches last year.

As a result, the club decided not to renew his contract at the end of June and he left as a free agent.

Villa opportunity

The 31-year-old has been given the opportunity to continue playing in the Premier League at Aston Villa this season.

The Villans completed a deal for the defender on deadline day and Lindelof will have the chance to play European football this season in the Europa League.

Super excited

Speaking to Aston Villa’s official website he commented on the move, “it’s a massive club, and I was super excited when I heard that the club wanted me.”

He added, “I spoke to my wife, and we felt it was a good move for us as a family and for me as a player.”

Lindelof also highlighted the experience that he can bring as he enters his ninth year in English football.

The Swede asserted, “I’ve been at the Premier League for many years, so I know what it’s all about.”

He continued, “hopefully, I can help the younger players with my experience, and also bring in the quality like I show on the pitch.”

Chats with Unai Emery

The former United defender also revealed that Villa’s manager Unai Emery played a key role in his decision to move to Birmingham.

Lindelof stated, “we had a good talk a couple of days ago, and we just talked about the football and how he sees me as a player and what I can bring to the team. That as well was one of the things that made me want to come here, after that phone call. We had a good talk, and (I am) really looking forward to working under him.”

Finally, he also praised the atmosphere of Villa Park and the style of football of his new team.

He claimed, “the team is very, very good with the ball and has a very good structure. I think everyone knows exactly what to do on the pitch, and I think that’s what the manager demands from the players as well.”

Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
