Marcus Rashford offers a number of options for new head coach Ruben Amorim as he prepares to name his first Manchester United XI.
The homegrown forward has the versatility to operate in any of the forward roles in the Portuguese’s system. Although it is still to be confirmed here, Ruben’s preferred formation at Sporting usually featured two creative forwards wider and behind one centre-forward.
Rashford has played on the left and right flanks but also down the middle since becoming a permanent fixture with his boyhood club.
“Rashy is training very well,” said Amorim, in his pre-match interview with MUTV’s Mark Sullivan, ahead of the Premier League clash with Ipswich Town.
“He can play the three positions in front, so it’s a good thing.
“He will be ready on Sunday.”
Much has been made of the system and style Amorim will adopt, from the outset, at Portman Road.
However, the boss did suggest the personnel may not change too much, when we get a look at his first teamsheet.
“On Sunday, you will see the list of players, the starting XI and you don’t feel a lot of change,” he admitted at his press conference. “But you feel it in the game during the positioning and in the way they receive the ball or cover the ball. You will see some changes.”
