Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo has taken a swipe at the club’s current crop of players while launching a passionate defence of countryman Ruben Amorim. Ronaldo at United Ronaldo has had two stints at United. The first one was incredibly successful, with the forward emerging and going on to cement his status as one of the game’s greatest ever players. However, his second spell ended in an extremely disappointing fashion. He fell out with Erik ten Hag, ultimately leading to him storming out of the club and sealing a transfer to the Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr. As part of his bitter exit, Ronaldo granted an interview to broadcaster Piers Morgan, in which he accused Ten Hag of disrespecting him and throwing him under the bus. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also strongly criticised the club’s lack of progress since Sir Alex Ferguson. In a new sit-down with Morgan, Ronaldo has revealed that he still loves United but believes there is currently no proper structure in place to steer the club back to glory. The Al-Nassr star also insisted that some of the players don’t have the mindset to play for United are are consequently letting Amorim down. Ronaldo issues scathing verdict of United stars Ronaldo told Morgan, “I’m sad because of the club, one of the most important in the world that I still have in my heart.” “You have to work with smart people to create a base for the future as Manchester did so many years ago with Nicky Butt, Gary [Neville], [Roy] Keane, [David] Beckham, they became big players but had youth.” “Manchester United right now doesn’t have a structure, I hope that they change in the future because the potential of the club is amazing.” “Of course [it hurts me] I love that club, but we have to be honest and say they’re not in a good path. They need to change and it’s not only about the coach and players in my opinion, it’s much more than that.” Asked for his opinion on Amorim, Ronaldo explained, “He’s doing his best. What are you going to do? Miracles. Miracles is impossible.” “We say in Portugal, ‘Miracles is only in Fatima’… And he’s not gonna do miracles.” “They have good players but they don’t have, some of them, in mind what Manchester United is.” United are back in action on Saturday when they go away to Tottenham Hotspur.
