Video: “Nothing positive happening”: 11-time PL winner launches stunning tirade on United’s owners

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has lambasted the job Ineos have done at Old Trafford since taking over just one year ago.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his company Ineos own around 27% of the club and have taken on the responsibilities of running the football side from the Glazer family.

Initially, the new owners were popular and many praised their efforts to restructure the footballing side of things with Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox being appointed.

Things have turned sour recently however, with results taking a steep nosedive in the league in 2024 and the team currently languishing in 13th place in the league.

Off-field decisions have also been heavily scrutinised as Ineos’ cost-cutting measures have been deemed cruel and highly unpopular by a large section of fans and the media.

Speaking on Sky Sports programme The Overlap, Paul Scholes echoed complaints about the new owners and struggled to think of anything positive they have achieved to date.

“There is nothing positive happening with that football club. The team look bang average. They’re not doing anything for fans.”

“They (Ineos Group) have been in charge (of Manchester United) for nearly a year now and everything is still negative. I can’t think of something positive that they’ve done for the football club.”

Scholes specifically took aim at the decision by the new owners to raise matchday ticket prices earlier in the season.

A survey has shown that 97% of fans feel that the decision to increase ticket prices will alienate future supporters but Ratcliffe has claimed years of mediocrity has resulted in the need to generate funds to fix the problems on the pitch.

Scholes gave his two cents on the matter by explaining, “£66 for a ticket is ridiculous. If you think of Manchester, there are so many deprived areas and Sir Jim Ratcliffe himself is from Failsworth, which is a deprived area.”

“If you take one kid with you, that’s £120, if you take a family, you’re looking at £300-400 – it’s not right.”

The Premier League legend also questioned how the owners had the gall to raise prices when the team was underperforming so badly on the pitch.

“For the value, we’re probably having our worst ever Premier League season and they’ve got the cheek to put the prices up.”

He finished by stating that just like the Glazers, Ratcliffe also doesn’t care about the football club or the supporters.

“If you’ve got a family you’re looking at £300/£400!” 😬

Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
