United reignite interest in “standout” 19-yo midfield prodigy with “impeccable technical skills” – report

Manchester United have seemingly reignited their interest in Belgian midfield prodigy Arthur Vermeeren, according to a new report.

Before he joined Atletico Madrid earlier this year in January, United were strongly linked with a move for the player while he was at Royal Antwerp.

Brighton and Hove Albion were also keen on signing him but he opted to complete a switch to La Liga. However, he found life under Diego Simeone very difficult as he struggled to break into the first team.

Vermeeren only managed a mere 160 minutes of action at Atletico before he left on loan for RB Leipzig. The 19-year-old has enjoyed a renaissance in the Bundesliga, where he is now a key player.

The Lier-born player has made 20 appearances across all competitions but has yet to register a goal or an assist.

It’s understood that by virtue of playing his twentieth game for Leipzig, a mandatory purchase clause worth €20m has been triggered. He is therefore set to permanently become part of Leipzig’s ranks and will not return to the Metropolitano Stadium.

Sports Courant note that United have entered the fray for Vermeeren once again after he regained form.

“In the bustling world of football transfers, interest from Premier League giants Manchester United in Belgian midfield prodigy Arthur Vermeeren has sparked considerable intrigue.”

“The 19-year-old talent from RB Leipzig has rapidly ascended the ranks, earning a reputation as one of Europe’s most promising young talents. Known for his impeccable technical skills, vision, and composure under pressure, the starlet has become a standout performer in the Bundesliga.”

“The Old Trafford club, under the stewardship of Ruben Amorim, see the youngster as a key addition to their squad. With a pressing need to strengthen their midfield, bringing the young Belgian into the team reflects their strategic approach to building a squad capable of competing at the highest levels.”

Sports Courant add that recruiting Vermeeren is not only about the present but also about the future.

United are back in action on Boxing Day when they face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium. Kick-off is at 17:30 GMT.
