Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is slowly phasing both Christian Eriksen and Casemiro out of the first team squad with the Dane’s minutes dramatically decreasing since the Portuguese was appointed.
The 32-year-old had started nine times under former manager Erik ten Hag but has managed only two starts under the former Sporting Lisbon boss.
He was in decent form, scoring four times while registering three assists, but the new coach has realised his struggles out of possession with Amorim demanding intensity from all his players.
Only one of those starts have come in the Premier League with Amorim reportedly open to his departure in January, something that would give the club the chance to earn a small fee from the operation.
Eriksen on his way out
The former Tottenham Hotspur star will be free to agree a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January and Danish outfit FC Midtjylland are mulling over making an approach should he become a free agent next summer.
According to Tipsbladet, “FC Midtjylland are considering whether Christian Eriksen was a player they should try to negotiate free from Manchester United and persuade to sign a contract with the club.”
The report does add that for such a move to occur, Eriksen would likely have to take a massive pay cut. The highest earner at the club is Kevin Mbabu who earns £50,000 per week (via salarysport).
On the other hand, the United midfielder earns £150,000 gross per week (via capology). Midtjylland are yet to make any concrete approach.
Eriksen has never played for a club back home, something Midtjylland manager Thomas Thomasberg wants to change but he also believes that a lot of other clubs will also possibly be thinking along similar lines.
Midtjylland want him on a free
“It would almost be strange if all Danish clubs hadn’t thought about him. Whether it was financially feasible and whether it would be the right thing from a sporting point of view was a separate discussion. But it would have been strange if it hadn’t crossed the minds of many clubs.
“Sometimes you can think about whether it’s the right thing to do, but the thought must cross all clubs. It would have been strange if it hadn’t also crossed their minds at Brøndby, FC Copenhagen and OB. And it’s probably even more natural in OB because he’s from there.”
Whether Eriksen will agree to join is a different proposition with a lot more illustrious clubs still seeking him out.
United might even want to ensure he leaves in January so a clearer picture will emerge once the winter window opens.
