United handed exciting opportunity to land ‘ideal player’ as rival hesitates over £59M deal – report

If Manchester United are serious about signing Christopher Nkunku, and if Ruben Amorim is genuinely a fan of his, then it is now clear what they will need to pay to secure a deal.

During the winter transfer window, United emerged as one of the clubs willing to offer Nkunku an escape route from Chelsea. However, nothing materialised, as a proposed loan deal failed to convince Chelsea to part ways with the Frenchman.

Now, as the summer transfer window edges closer, United’s interest in Nkunku has resurfaced.

As relayed by The Peoples Person, United are indeed revisiting their pursuit of the forward. However, competition for his signature is expected to be fierce. While United contemplate making their first formal approach, Juventus have already made a move.

According to Teamtalk, the Italian giants have made contact with Chelsea regarding Nkunku’s availability.

Juventus have inquired about the forward’s situation and potential cost, and Chelsea have confirmed he is on the market. And not just that. Chelsea have further indicated they would sanction his departure if their £59 million asking price is met.

So, are Juventus prepared to splash £59 million on Nkunku?

Teamtalk claims Juventus are reluctant to match Chelsea’s valuation.

They hope to negotiate a lower fee, with further discussions expected while both clubs participate in the FIFA Club World Cup this June in Philadelphia, United States.

While Juventus aim to reduce the price, Nkunku’s other suitors, including United, could consider outbidding them, now that his valuation is publicly known.

Nkunku has endured a tough spell since joining Chelsea. Despite Enzo Maresca previously describing him as the “ideal player” for his versatility in attack, he has managed only seven league starts this season.

Competition for places and persistent injuries have severely restricted his playing time, much like they did in his maiden Premier League campaign in 2023-24.

Some might argue that it would be unwise for United to sanction a £59 million deal for a player who has yet to prove himself in England’s top flight.

However, there are reasons why INEOS might consider making the move.

At United, Nkunku’s ability to operate across multiple attacking positions is seen as a perfect fit for Amorim’s tactical setup.

His Bundesliga exploits also cannot be ignored. During his final full season at RB Leipzig, he delivered numbers akin to those of an elite goal scorer, netting 16 goals in 25 league games which was an impressive return.

The attacking midfielder’s Chelsea stint may have been plagued by setbacks, but as the saying goes, form is temporary, class is permanent.

With multiple clubs expressing interest in him, it is clear there is still belief that Nkunku possesses the quality to shine. So, if United decide to make a move, trust that they genuinely believe Amorim can unlock his full potential.
