United face fresh competition as Arsenal enter the fray for top midfield target – report

Manchester United have shown improvement so far this season but they are still aiming to bolster the squad in upcoming transfer windows. Midfield signings One area in which United will definitely try to strengthen is the midfield. Carlos Baleba was the subject of interest last summer and reports suggest he is still very much a target next summer. What’s more, United have also been recently linked to Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes. Another Premier League star who is reportedly of interest to United is Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson. Anderson interest United are said to be keeping tabs on the player with a January move not totally ruled out at this point. It has been suggested that United would be prepared to go up to £60 million to sign the midfielder but it seems that Forest will want more than that, especially in the middle of the season. Importantly, there have also been reports that Anderson would welcome a move to Old Trafford, which would surely grease the wheels of a transfer as it did this summer in the chases for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Fierce competition United will not be lucky enough to be the sole suitors for the star though as both Real Madrid and Liverpool have been linked with a move for him. Arsenal enter the race The current Premier League leaders, Arsenal, are also reportedly keen on the player according to Spanish outlet Fichajes. They report that, “Arsenal has entered the race to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, who is also being pursued by Chelsea and Manchester United.” It is also stated that “although Forest have set a price tag of over £100 million, the London club is not backing down” and view the youngster as a complimentary piece to their more experienced midfield pack. He has become “one of the most promising midfielders in England” but Forest show no signs of facilitating a move this January. Arsenal are reportedly weighing up whether to match Forest’s steep price of £100 million and £120 million to steal a march on United and other Premier League rivals.
