Manchester United seem set to lose Alejandro Garnacho this transfer window as the race for his signature continues to heat up.
Earlier this week, The Peoples Person noted that Napoli have been named as the early frontrunners in the race to sign Garnacho.
Still, they face stiff competition from Chelsea, who appear to have taken an interest in the Argentine winger.
What’s more, it was reported that Garnacho was interested in moving to Stamford Bridge, signalling his intention to leave United following a frustrating season.
Even if Garnacho’s reported interest in Chelsea proves to be falsified, it appears that neither Chelsea nor Napoli are giving up on their pursuit of the youngster.
This morning, CaughtOffside reported that both clubs remain interested.
“Sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Chelsea are continuing to assess Garnacho and other winger targets,” the report read.
“The Blues are looking to replace Jadon Sancho after deciding not to keep him after his loan from Man Utd, and they could raid the Red Devils again. Garnacho’s availability will make him a tempting option for Chelsea, while he also fits their philosophy of signing elite young talents for their long-term project.”
“Sources have also told CaughtOffside that Garnacho is still a target for Napoli, after they also strongly considered him back in January,” the report continued. “The Argentina international also has admirers in the form of AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, and his former manager Erik ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen.”
Still, there are some caveats to both Chelsea’s and Napoli’s interest in Garnacho, as per the report.
Chelsea are believed to be weighing up a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens as well, while Napoli are reportedly considering Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa as an alternative.
Garnacho’s departure from the club would no doubt be a major blow to United. Still, given the recent tensions between the player and manager Ruben Amorim, it may be prudent to offload him this summer in an effort to avoid unwanted locker room drama.
