Manchester United got a first-hand glimpse of Antoine Semenyo on Monday, with the January window drawing ever closer. Under the lights at Old Trafford, the Ghanaian scored the first of Bournemouth’s three equalisers on the night, with the pulsating encounter eventually ending 4-4. With the goal, the “special” 25-year-old now has seven goals and three assists this season, and is currently the third top-scorer in the Premier League. Naturally, plenty of clubs are eyeing the Cherries talisman, and the list includes the likes of United, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur. Antoine Semenyo race heating up Both the Red Devils and their noisy neighbours had called Bournemouth to understand the viability of a January deal. Given City’s current position in the league table, and the guarantee of playing Champions League football, the Ghana international could have opted to switch to the Etihad. However, as per The Daily Telegraph, there are murmurs that Pep Guardiola might step down, come the end of the season. And that strengthens United’s chances of landing the versatile attacker. “Manchester United will go all-out to sign Antoine Semenyo in January and hope the uncertainty over Pep Guardiola’s future could strengthen their hand. “United are locked in a four way tussle with Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool for the coveted Bournemouth forward, whose £65m release clause activates from the start of next month. United now in pole position “Semenyo, 25, is in huge demand and has a big decision to make as he plots his next career move. “City want Semenyo but United are among the suitors out to take advantage of the doubts about whether Guardiola will still be at the Etihad Stadium beyond the end of this season.” As for Liverpool, they can only advance once the Mohamed Salah situation becomes clearer. Thus, United are in an advantageous position if they plan to launch an assault early in the winter window. Antoine Semenyo has a release clause of £65 million. With Bryan Mbeumo, and Amad set to be unavailable due to AFCON, United have a readymade replacement. Now, whether INEOS can afford to pounce will be interesting to see.
